It was a really good show. He, Clark Warner, and DJ Heather all really rocked the house. Rob started off playing detroit classics (May, Atkins, and Saunderson stuff...) and transitioned into motown and straight into minimal. Really cool stuff and interesting to listen to. He had a hip hop break-down or two. The only thing is, the interruptions from minimal into slower genres, in my opinion, kind of stopped the progression of the music. The floor wasn't very full and only a few peoplep were dancing. It's kind of pathetic that Hood can't get a decent turnout in his own town. Not a dis to him, but it seems like the scene is better elsewhere. In the other room DJ Heather was really kicking ass with some hard house. RE: [313] the stupid letter i got from carol marvin.
Hi :) Mine's a touch different. Maybe she realized we might compare? Sounds like a Falstaff plot! Here's my letter and the reply. BTW, I got a response from John Jelinek (Ford Mo. Co.) and Brian McCollum from one of the papers (can't recall which) asking permission to publish it. Your letter was much nicer than mine, I think that's why I got the abbreviated version ;) I also got a response from John Jelinek, he told me that he has a car and a message that appeals to the festival audience and that I should visit some of the Focus-themed activities they have planned. Can you say in one ear and out the other? John - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] 313 FAQ
Speaking of Frequently Asked Questions ... I'm proud to announce the first iteration of the 313 FAQ and Web presence: http://music.hyperreal.org/lists/313/ alternately, there's now a handy redirect at http://hyperreal.org/313/ Only 12 questions to start, but we had to start somewhere. :) Thanks to Matt, Otto, Ian and, of course, George for making this happen and giving this writer something else to work on. [313] Open letter to the powers that be.
***note: this email does not reflect the opinions of All Media Guide or its parent company, Alliance Entertainment.*** To whom this may concern, I worked very passionately on the DEMF last year, working side by side with Mr Tim Price, a very dedicated man whose work for the electronic scene in this city runs deep and can be touched by no one. My dedication and loyalty to the festival was to the point where I went roughly 50 hours straight without sleep. And there were many others like myself who worked like dogs, unpaid, so we can have something to be proud of, something to call OURS. Something that would put Detroit on the map for three days. To remind people that Detroit still has something to say. In this regard, Pop Culture should receive due credit. While Tim and company were toying away with ideas at 4am on how to make things look better, they were all asleep because they had to look their best the next day. Anyways, enough about last year. Let's move on to this year. TO THE PEOPLE AT FORD: You want to talk about bottom line and target marketing? Let's do it. Your car, correct my assumption if I am wrong, is targeted at the digital generation. The refreshing, exciting youth of America aimed at living fast and free. Most of the people you are targeting at this festival thrive on a culture that is often misunderstood and deeply rooted in the underground. Moby is a four letter word that is liable to get your mouth washed out with soap in some cliques. The removal of one of the underground's prominent figures is an ill-fated gesture which will not rest easy on the minds of many of the members of the demographic you are trying to reach. Let's face it: people root for the guy on the indie label, rather than the major label guy. Carol Marvin's credibility with the scene has only recently manifested itself and has done so on the laurels of others (too numerous to mention here, but if needed I would gladly expand on this). Especially Carl. The reinforcement of Carol just isolates the many people who support Carl, myself included TO THE DETROIT CITY EMPLOYEES: I realize that your long standing relationship with Carol Marvin puts you in an uncomfortable position. As employees of the city, your will should be that of your constituents. However, I beg you to reconsider your options for the sake of the festival. The inner circle of Detroit techno parallels that of elephants, the mafia and mothers: they don't forget things easily. The removal of the man who is considered by many to be the Miles Davis of techno is a very poor move, not only to establish good will and relationships with the artists of this city...but does not help the image of Detroit as investing in the future of the same culture it helped to develop. I'm not sure if you are aware of this fact, but the news of Carl's dismissal has been in the press world wide; spanning Rolling Stone, MTV, SonicNet, NME (UK) and various other media publications. This is not just a local issue, this is something that has an effect on Detroit's international presence. People who would otherwise travel from European countries will not be here next year, or at least not in the same numbers. This could hurt the possible tourist revenue that the festival could be generating. This is not making Detroit look good. At all. TO POP CULTURE MEDIA: Nothing good will come to you through this. Your credibility with the majority of artists in this city has been ruined. Your reluctance to speak out on these issues (nice auto-reply message you've been sending everyone) only further reinforces everything everyone is thinking. You are cowards; riding the backs of others to get where you are today. Sucking away like ticks and leeches at the very source of this city's inspiration. Your manipulation is cold, calculated and cunning...but not to be respected by anyone who gives a damn about this music. Everything you have done will come back to haunt you. Karma has a way of doing things to people like yourselves. Your timing was a brilliant publicity move. I can't believe no one acknowledges this. Fire the man who has the dream and the vision, cause a major ruckus which will generate more curiosity from people who are unfamiliar with this music/culture. I have to give you credit, I have NEVER seen anyone do something so STUPID in public before, especially of this magnitude. Your ignorance should be celebrated and used as an example for other people. Like I said above, Detroit people are VERY proud and have this peculiar habit of weeding out false people, and not forgetting. Ask Mad Mike. Ask Rolando. Remember the ruckus behind Jaguar? I'm sure you don't, but many people do. The voice of the people WILL be heard, and I personally will not rest easily until your position with the DEMF has been removed, or at least the reinstatement of Carl Craig has happened. Detroit does not need pop culture, we have a culture of our own. If you would like me to expand upon any of these topics,

Motor was a little too packed last year for Acquaviva as far as I'm concerned. It felt like it was about 110 degrees inside and there was barely enough room to turn around--still a good show none the less... [313] demf faq on PDAs
Any chance someone wants to convert the FAQ to a Palm/Visor readable file, or suggest a means to view the file on my Visor Platinum? you can just copy the text out, and paste it into a memo on palm desktop, and then sync it up. A better option would be if someone ever gets it coded into html you could set it as a custom channel on avantgo. That way (if the person who put it into html was so inclined) you could have bold headlines, and they could put in index points for different sections. maybe I'll get bored and do this tonight or something.
