Tiger Sushi - More GDM Vol 1 The Cluster track on side A is a Krautrock thing from 1974 which I haven't really got my teeth into yet. Side B has 'Present Pretence' from John Tejada which is simply superb - like a cross between his beautiful downtempo stuff on Defocus and his housier output. Highly recommended. Cluster were the oddly named Moebius and Roedelius - and often Michael Rother of Neu! and, once upon a time, Kraftwerk. That trio were also Harmonia. Check out Harmonia's Musik Von..., Harmonia Deluxe. They're both effin' ace but far too tough to track down. I've heard a fair bit of really good Cluster stuff (though the fluctuating line ups of so many interconnected bands is quite confusing) and '74 was a bit of a kosmische creative peak. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

did others get this? we've talked about this before...please consider. -- Forwarded message -- Date: Wed, 1 May 2002 09:22:44 -0500 From: Lester K. Spence [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: FW: = May 1 Beta Blackout = -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 7:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: = May 1 Beta Blackout = To the listeners of the Beta Lounge: The Beta Lounge is participating in a one-day Internet radio blackout on May 1st, 2002, in protest of the US Copyright Office's CARP ruling. The Beta Lounge, like any other entity that uses music on its website, must pay royalties to the people who publish music. While we're happy to pay reasonable fees that support the artists whose music we're playing, this CARP ruling sets very excessive fees and unreasonable technical requirements. These fees and requirements will put most, if not all, independent Internet stations out of business - including the Beta Lounge. These CARP recommendations were strong-armed through the Copyright Office by heavy lobbying from the RIAA and the major record labels, and do not represent the interests of smaller independent record labels (like those whose music you hear on our site), nor independent Internet broadcasters like the Beta Lounge. This ruling isn't law yet, and we're asking that you join the fight with us against it by contacting your representatives in Congress. The more that our representatives hear about this from their electorate, the more likely it is that they will do something about it. What we're asking for is a temporary moratorium on these fees so that more reasonable fee schedules can be developed. If you want to get more information on this situation, the proposed laws, and what you can do, go to this web site: http://www.saveinternetradio.org/ The Copyright office won't make a decision on the CARP rulings until May 21st, 2002, so phone your representatives in Congress and tell them that you oppose the CARP rulings. Here's a simple script you can use when you call: I'm calling because of the proposed Copyright Office ruling on royalty rates for Internet radio stations. I would like to ask that you send a letter to the Librarian of Congress similar to Congressman Rick Boucher's [pronounced B-ouch-er] letter in protest of the CARP ruling. Or, you can simply email or fax them. Sample letters for you to use can be found on the saveinternetradio.org web site. To find your House and Senate representatives, and their contact information, you can go to: http://www.congress.org/ ...and input your zip code. It will give you a list of your elected officials, and all of their contact information. Ideally, you should contact both State Senators, and your local district House representative. If you want to make it really easy, there's a link to write ALL of your representatives at the top of the page you get after entering your zip. If you are not a U.S. citizen you can help by contacting journalists or elected representatives of the area that you live. If there was ever a time for an international audience to mobilize, now is it. We need all of our listeners to add their input - don't assume someone else will take responsibility to voice an opinion. -The Beta Lounge Crew - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What are your experiences with Metro Area live Last year at the 7th city party (DEMF 2001) they played one of the best livesets i have ever heard. They are right up there together with Octave One/RNG and Inner City. If you are able to see them live, go thre you will enjoy it! Their live set at that 7th City afterparty (Serenghetti Ballroom on Woodward, classic) was just spectacular, deep as hell. That Dan system rented so loud, but it was CLEAN with seemingly bottomless low end. Morgan and Darshan working the dials lock tight and people really got down, tripping through most of the Metro Area favorites. One of the deepeset and best executed live PAs of deep house/techno I've ever heard live, pure funk. Where else are they playing in Europe? I can't recommend them enough. RE: [313] Metro Area live
Ok, got some Morgan Geist records, so I imagine it will be a very warm sound than... Well Metro Area is that warm, but tends to be slower in tempo than Morgan's solo work, longer cuts, really arranged proper, the long sides of the 12s have really long, varied percussion intros so they're great in the mix. The basslines are thick as your grandmothers turkey gravy. More live instrumentation and definitely a nod to electronic disco, but not in a cheesey way, in the electronic deep house groove way. Darshan is all about the NY classics and dance music history, so that sound comes through, but it's a really warm, funky combination that sounds like homage to the past, but not unabashedly retro -- there's futuristic and atmospheric sounds that make it still it's own kind of sound that has real techno/future elements. There's also some live violin strings (Ana) and on some tracks a pinch of funky guitar or trumpet (!)... but just a little (just the right amount IMHO). That's Louis Osbourne. He's a House Of God resident in Birmingham and although I haven't heard him play, lots of people really rate him: very Chicago trax-y in style, apparently. I doubt he goes for 10K, though - he doesn't trade on his family name (would you?) and of all the HOGers, even Surgeon doesn't get anywhere near that. am i a jackass (to half the list: shut up)?? I could've SWORE i saw jack djing at a show on the osbourne show. but i *have* seen his family name being used on the flyer (now that i think of it, louis is the one). _ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dedicated to representing the finest quality electronic music - be it techno, house, or more abstracted electronics - their second event continues to make good on this. Room One sees Detroit's Blake Baxter heading the bill - accompanied by sometime recording partner, Trevor Rockcliffe. This will be the first time Blake has appeared in London for five years, and as such it promises to be a very special occasion. In a production career that spans back to 1985, Baxter has notched up releases for Underground Resistance, KMS, Tresor, and Disko B amongst others. Blake first hit these shores in 1991 when he was hand picked to DJ with UR alongside Jeff Mills, and since then he's been a regular fixture on the international circuit, bringing his blend of house and techno to the masses. In 1997, Blake collaborated with Trevor Rockcliffe on the 'Visions Of You' track, supplying his distinctive vocals. Trevor Rockcliffe started deejaying in the mid-80´s, honing his skills on the London club scene and developing his funky and energetic style. His affiliation with Carl Cox and the Ultimate Base night saw his reputation grow, which in turn led to high-profile DJ appearances across the globe. For this event, London's Expanding Records will be hosting the lounge. Their t:com project incorporates musical, visual, and performance elements and on this occasion there will be live performances from benge (expanding / sub rosa)(uk), stendec (expanding / static caravan)(uk), vs_price (expanding / adenoide) (france), vessel (expanding) (uk). The showcase is completed with DJ sets from tench (t:com / gaia live / moon palace), spongeboy (gaia live / t:com) and dancon1 (moon palace / rehab). Finally, on the Main Floor A.J Letty once again holds the whole thing together with his deeply funky tech grooves, with a selection from the more minimal end of the house / techno spectrum from Nick Craddock. The event, both rooms, will be simultaneously webcast live by Gaialive on www.gaialive.co.uk and www.third-ear.net, and archived for your future listening pleasure. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[313] Gig announcement
Y'all, If there happen to be any list members in the Rochester, NY area, I'm doing a live PA this Friday at Java's on Gibbs St. I'll probably start around 10-ish and play for an hour or so. This is a warm-up for a tour I'm doing throughout Germany in June and July. It's also (gulp) my FIRST live PA ever. I'll be playing deconstructed/reconstructed material from my recent and upcoming releases on k2o, Kanzleramt, and Headspace. It's free, so if any of you happen to be in the area, stop by. It'd be great to see you. Thanks, --- Dennis DeSantis www.dennisdesantis.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Tech-house has been around for a while, at least 5 years or more by that name. It's definately not trance either. Check out the old records on Central or Grow! labels for good examples. Although some tech-house could be called trancey, its definately not trance. forgot to add the sarcasm notes apparently. For those who don't know, a lot of artists who used the 'prog-house' genre to get away from saying they spun trance, now say they spin 'tech-house' for the same reason (max graham, sasha, timo maas, etc). and he doesn't spin trance. Re: [313] slightly less OT - name recognition (was ozzy's kid a dj?)
he still cashes in on the ozzy osbourne's son gimmick. He's never billed like that here, AFAIK, certainly not at the House Of God. I reckon it's just that people found out and so promoters stick it on flyers thinking it'll help attract curious punters. I doubt he - or anyone else - ever gets to 'approve' flyers before agreeing to play. No idea if little Jack DJs or what, though. It's an interesting area though; what gets printed after DJs names on ads/flyers. More often than not these days, it's a roll-call of labels this person has recorded for - which of course tells you absolutely nothing about their background/rep/abilities as a DJ... It's even more confusing when DJs don't play their own records. I remember going to see Rush play at Lost but wondering why he wasn't playing his own productions. Frustrating for me, because I really wanted to hear the stuff out, but then it's up to him what he spins, of course. Anyway, 'Teachers' is starting so... Re: [313] slightly less OT - name recognition (was ozzy's kid a dj?)
It's an interesting area though; what gets printed after DJs names on ads/flyers. More often than not these days, it's a roll-call of labels this person has recorded for - which of course tells you absolutely nothing about their background/rep/abilities as a DJ... I don't know - I find it useful to know what labels a person's associated with. At least having that information might give you some idea of what sort of music they're about. This might be more true for live PAs than for DJs, though. It's even more confusing when DJs don't play their own records. I remember going to see Rush play at Lost but wondering why he wasn't playing his own productions. Frustrating for me, because I really wanted to hear the stuff out, but then it's up to him what he spins, of course. I do agree about this - I'd *love* to hear Theo Parrish play a set where he plays some of his weirder material. That's primarily where my interest in him lies - in those weird, messed-up sides he comes out with (Dance of the Drunken Drums, etc), and not as much his DJing (though that's top-notch as well, of course). bvl -- http://www.chromedecay.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313] Metro Area live
according to some there are a few other people who sound like MA...:P altho i think its not really true.. I've read quotes in the past from Dixon, one of Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv crew, that he really just wants to be Metro Area... (or words to that effect). Check some of his recent remixes for proof of that - the Wahoo mix of Jazzanova's That Night (on Dixon's latest mix CD Off Limits 3), and his contribution to the Fauna Flash remix album are both excellent productions.
