[313] RE: DEMF hotels
I got my room at the Ponchartrain through Travelocity for $80/night but they aren't offering that price anymore. The hotel is also completely booked Fri. May 24th and Sat. May 25th. Priceline was offering $60-$70 rooms at the Courtyard Marriot but they don't accept non-US credit cards (which is why I went through Travelocity). And as the official DEMF hotel they are most likely completely booked. I believe there's still room at the Best Western although the rooms are going for $130 and up. The same goes for the RenCen (even more expensive...$160 and up).You might want to try the Ramada on Cassit's a few blocks away but definitely cheaper. Does anyone still have a copy of the 313 DEMF Guide from last year? Maybe a repost (it used to be on the technotourist site) would help some out people out :) From: Pryor, Ryan N To: '313@hyperreal.org' 313@hyperreal.org Subject: [313] DEMF Hotels Date: Thu, 9 May 2002 18:21:12 -0400 I recently saw a deal for The Ponchatrain. $80 a night // 2 beds= $20 a night per person. [313] laurent garnier mixed cd from react.
hi 313s just saw a friend which i haven`t met for some time now. and i found a cd from laurent garnier (doube cd) that was out on react in 1996. this is just a great mix of good house\techno music. the funny part is that back in the days i never gave any attention to this cd, we were all like into drum`n`bass and IDM never into techno or house. this cd is such surprise to me i had to write it here. garnier plays some real kool techno\house from maurizio and juan atkins to ACID EIFFEL. ratio on 7th city and jeff mills.(the linear notes say jeffrey mills).and stuff from simon begg, keith tucker and more. after listening to this i want to grab the first time capsule and go back 10 years back (being history student this is not a surprise). this cd had sharpen some Qs i have in my mind, i think its about time to check techno (and house) for the first time (well at least as far as i know), with a new prospective of what have happend in the being called techno music (and happening). i did some work\essay about issues like this last year (dan bell, ellen alien and michael mayer were the people i did interview to the work) if any of you would like to help they r more than welcome i hope i could explain my self better but its too late. not like when i do research on plato here we r lucky most of the objects of the research r alive. u have alot of materials to work with. kind regards, yair. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yes it's a nice one. There is a Philip Glass piece in there too if I remember correctly. You could also get the Laboratoire mix in a box set form with about 5 sheets of vinyl I think. Laboratoire Garnier. I was always waiting for the day when Laurent would pounce on the obvious humour of that title. [313] Re: DEMF hotels
I'm sorry if this has already been discussed (subscribed today). What is the cheapest way to survive those 3 days in Detroit? I graduate on the 23rd and want to take a `vacation' but I'm not sure how much the whole thing will end up costing me. I don't mind living a hike away (does Detroit have a decent public transpot system?)-- so if anyone knows the cheapest (though safe) place to stay the nights in Detroit, I'd love to hear it. Also, on a less practical note: what have people heard about the DEMF this year? Again, I would check archives but can't seem to access the more recent ones online. [313] Eddie The Eggs
Hi all, I was just curious if any of you have the Eddie The Eggs (Maurice Fulton) LP and what do you think of it? I heard some brief clips and it sounds like a pretty interesting LP _ The Joss House label is back after a little rest . with an LP from Maurice Fulton back under the guise of Eddie The Eggs. Maurice Fulton is well known now for his unique style of music - quirky, abstract and futuristic but always funky, this is his completion of the project he started a couple of years back with the A Cup Of Coffee twelve which was widely supported by many dj's, amongst them - Derrick Carter, Lil Louie Vega and Derrick May. The album moves from mellow home listening through to deep club tracks and it will be followed by a limited 12 of DJ re-edits. _ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I survived incredibly cheap last year at some hostel type thing(with a room of my own) in the theatre-district (15 min walk to DEMF or 5 mins with the People Mover). Something like $120 for a whole week. Can't remember its name right now but I think I can look it up (or maybe someone else knows it). A warning though: I nearly didn't get my $150 deposit back the day I was leaving, and the owner(?) either tried to charge me for an extra night or did it by mistake and got really mad, screaming and everything, when I found out. Weird. Unbeatable price though... -Ursprungligt meddelande- Från: Tahir [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Skickat: den 10 maj 2002 05:41 Kopia: 313@hyperreal.org Ämne: [313] Re: DEMF hotels I'm sorry if this has already been discussed (subscribed today). i had a mate who went from DJing 313 to Dnb...and he always said dnb was easier to mix because there was more drum sounds...there were more audio clues..he reckoned it gave you a quicker reaction time as you could hear sooner if something was out. makes sense if you think about it. on 10/5/02 11:04 am, Mann, Ravinder [CCS] at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The LTJ Bukem cover photo oh man does he look stoned... reminiscent of the old 70's reggae album sleeves... nice vibe to the track selection but patchy mixing in parts... but dnb must be a nightmare to mix... rav -Original Message- From: Tim Maughan [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, May 10, 2002 10:42 AM To: - BT -; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313] laurent garnier mixed cd from react. also the Derrick Carter mixmag CD is one of my all time favourites. on 10/5/02 9:23 am, - BT - at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I cannot remember what it is called - it has some odd name - a jumpble of letters but the icon is of a bear. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Friday, May 10, 2002 6:09 AM Subject: [313] Virus Alert - 'A Funny Game' / 'Terms Conditions' Just thought I should warn you all that I received an e-mail titled 'thanks for the virus' from someone I don't know and didn't e-mail in the first place. This person just forwarded me the message details and the mail was titled 'Terms Conditions.' Someone else on 313 also received an e-mail from me titled 'A Funny Game' that I didn't send out either. I asked my friend Mike (also on the list) what he thought and this is his response ... There is a virus floating around on the internet which I found on my PC the other night. Think it may be worth posting something on 313 board. I found it lurking in my C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory (on your work PC it may be in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 subdirectory and it has an icon of a bear.). I cannot remember what it is called - it has some odd name - a jumpble of letters but the icon is of a bear. Apparently it is not found by Norton Utilities nor by McAfee which are the main two virus scans in existence. I will get the details off the e-mail where I was notified of the virus and post also to 313 tonite I thought I'd add I got a very odd message at my old yahoo account yesterday (not subscribed to this list) with a subject background, no text or attachments, but a file size of 124k. The email from had been doctored to be [EMAIL PROTECTED] while this address does not exist at hotmail. The Header of the message revealed the actual reply to was [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hoping I didn't pass anything along unwittingly through that yahoo account. Please let me know if a variant of this popped up in any of your inboxes and I'll see if I can track anything down. No reply from [EMAIL PROTECTED] yet. Also hope this can just be ignored. Thanks. [313] Andrea Parker.
She's defo still DJing, saw her name a couple of times recently on line-ups for Electro nights here in London. Don't know if she's still producing tho', would be a shame if she didn't. Her album Kiss My Arp is quite something - although some people call it a bit over the top and cheesy, I like it. I really dig her DJ Kicks mix too, opens with her remix of DM's It's No Good and also includes Model 500 - Night Drive, Dopplereffekt - Cellularphone and Drexciya - Hydro Theory. A DJ Kicks I'd recommend on the DnB tip is KemistryStorm - dark dirty! Such a shame Kemistry's no longer with us. I saw her play in philly about a year ago... Very Cool! She didn't really mix-She just sort of slammed everything together, but there were no train wrecks and the energy was definetley there. She played everything from some old 69 records to NWA, public enemy and Planet Rock. I think some of the cool Dj kids thought it was a little cheesy, but the crowd loved it! BTW Melodious Thunk is one of my favorite (Electro or no) ever... http://www.big12inch.com House Music Record Store! - We carry an extensive selection of house music records from around the world. I guess it makes sense that someone whose two main loves are electro and hip-hop would become quite interested in the whole booty bass thing - her hip-hop background probably means the lyrical content is less shocking than it might otherwise be! She has actually produced some stuff in that vein, but nothing has been released yet... people like DJ Assault and Coon Daddy have provided some vocals. I actually haven't heard it myself, but apparently it's pretty good - if you like that sort of stuff :) Brendan -Original Message- From: Odeluga, Ken [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 10 May 2002 14:28 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Org; [EMAIL PROTECTED] freeserve. co. uk Subject: RE: [313] Andrea Parker Yeah, the Detroit Booty bass connection is something that's always puzzled me about Andrea Parker ... Aside from things on Touchin' Bass, she released two EP's last year or the year before on Quatermass. The Swamp/Expedition - 12 and The Dark Ages EP I've not heard the Dark Ages EP, but I think they are the same thing in different formats. Miss Parker is one of the two DJ's I have always wanted to see and haven't. (Maybe she doesn't play in the US?) He will be djing at Homelands on June 1st where he will play a 5hr set as well as South - Waterford, Ireland May 31st. OUT JUNE 3RD Laurent Garnier¹s 3rd album Unreasonable Behaviour came out in January 2000 - Laurent Garnier dared to bring out a techno album with a massive live influence. This was his most successful album to date and went on to sell over 24,000 in the UK. Laurent toured it extensively, in fact he toured it for almost two years. Refusing to rely on a trusty DAT machine it proved to be one live act that wanted to give as good a visual performance as well as an aural one - Laurent Garnier the French man with a Mancunian ascent, known as a class DJ and a class producer had now proved that he was also an excellent live performer. This DVD is the final chapter of his Unreasonable Behaviour period - watch the 52mins of live footage filmed at one of his most prestigious concerts the Elysee Montmartre, France, and experience the whole visual aspect - dancers, lights, sound and of course true performer Laurent Garnier in action. For those that have seen him live before you will be familiar with the footage of his classic tracks, Greed, Acid Eiffel and of course Man With The Red Face(this reached the top 40 in the UK chart in October 2000), for those that haven¹t seen him live before enjoy the show. This DVD is a timely reminder of who really is the kingpin of French dance music. As well as the live recording the DVD also contains the 3 classic video's, sound Of The Big Babou, MWTRF and Greed in long versions, plus intro flash, interface and menu. The Limited Box version includes the DVD plus an exclusive 12² of three tracks recorded live at L¹Elysee Montmartre including - 'The Battle' featuring the vocals of 'Mad' Mike Banks of Underground Resistance - this 12 will not be available anywhere else again. [313] laurent garnier mixed cd from react.
The Laboratoire mix CD is probably my fave mix CD of all time, even beating out Mills' Liquid Room mix (which is a damn close second). I've found it's especially good for air travel! Kinda makes the time cruise by... I bought it because it has some amazing old stuff (like Marshall Jefferson's Jungle Wonz) in with a lot of newer stuff. At any rate it turned me on to a lot of good music... mark - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'd auction the thing on ebay - he'll probably get quite a sum for it! There's a whole subculture of people who'll pay through the nose for mispressed old Plus 8 records (I used to know someone who would happily fork out 60 quid for a copy of Minimal Nation where side C was pressed on both sides of the second record, or a Kenny Larkin EP with the wrong sticker, etc etc), so assuming he paid a normal amount for it (6-8 quid) he might make quite a profit... I don't know if DJ'ing is term that you can give to her. When she played in Portland , she was more worried about where her next cigarrette and beer was coming from then when to start the next record. I'm all down with Loft Style mixing but when the record runs and is in a lock groove, THATs when the next record should be starting Dave Anya Stang wrote: She's defo still DJing, saw her name a couple of times recently on line-ups for Electro nights here in London. All are welcome, the coach will be leaving Cord Bar (just off Tib St) at around 7.30pm, returning from Sheffield at 4.30 am, back in Manchester by 6 am I reckon. The cost is around £15 return, the more that come, the cheaper it will be. Not bad for getting taken there and picked up outside me thinks. This is also a co-op thing, no profits, everyone just pays their way. There's 20-odd of us so far, and we have a 48 seat coach, so there's loads of space if there's a large group of you. Manchester peeps, this is the best way if you're not driving, I've checked the public transport and it's sh**e. Liverpool peeps - this might be worth your while, the coach from L'Pool to Manchester is a fiver return and is once an hour. Once again, all welcome, we'd like to fill it if we can. There's loads of different people going, not all of whom no each other, so don't worry if you're on your own, we're all a friendly lot! Actually- I'm certain he's talking about the Laboratory Mix. The second CD has the best use of 'The Wipe' ever!!! I think it's standard marketing practise - build up brand loyalty among the core group of fanatics, whose admiration for your mix-CD series eventually confers an aura of cool on it... and once you've got that reputation among the fanatics, you diversify your product range to suddenly appeal to a wider target demographic. Or, to put it differently, you start doing trip-hop! -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 10 May 2002 16:50 To: - BT - Cc: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: Fwd: Re: [313] laurent garnier mixed cd from react. RE: [313] X-Mix
I particularly like the Garnier X-Mix CD - some Kenny Larkin, Journey of the Dragons, Final Frontier on there etc. Yep that's a good one! I'll forgive him for the hardfloor remix of 'circus bells' though ;) but dropping UR 003, now that's a moment.. another good one is the DJ Hell 'wildstyle' X-Mix CD. It's not flashy mixing by any stretch (smooth and even) but the older tracks are class: Bobby Konders, Phortune, Kevin Saunderson, Ron Trent, Steve Poindexter 'work that MF', K-ALexi 'all for lee-sah' and probably one of the best moments of DJ Skull's career: Stomping Grounds. definitely check it out for a clean mix of Chicago and detroity house. I used to have to drive 4 hours from Michigan to Chicago a lot in 1996-97, so to keep me awake (driving thru Indiana is torture, and not just from the industrial waste smell) I had in the trunk CD jukebox: Laurent Garnier Mix, Jeff Mills Liquid Room mix CD, Black Dog - Bytes, The Claude Young mix CD on DJ Kicks, Transmat: relics CD and a small arsenal of Radio 1 mixtapes: Slam, Stacey Pullen, and about 4 by Dave Clarke... I really dig her DJ Kicks mix too, opens with her remix of DM's It's No Good and also includes Model 500 - Night Drive, Dopplereffekt - Cellularphone and Drexciya - Hydro Theory. Re: [313] DJ Skull (was: laurent garnier mixed cd from react.)
I asked Mike dearborn the same question last july, when he was here to play in pittsburgh. He mentioned then that he hadn't talked to skull in over 2 years. The last 2 releases i remember are the 2 DJAX records he did some time ago. Internet server 2112 which is an excellent record, check the chords on first track on the b - side, lovely! And chronic symbiosis which was released a year afterward! He released a record domestically a year after that, but the title escapes me at the moment. it's not a mis-press, just a jokey promotional tool. it's still relatively rare and might fetch money on ebay. then again, i have seen copies in several record stores, including a copy at smallfish london. brian -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, May 10, 2002 7:33 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: [313] +8 pre-release vinyl I'd auction the thing on ebay - he'll probably get quite a sum for it! RE: [313] X-Mix
(thanks Rob!) I'll second that hellish drive though Indiana. I always watch for the set of blue silo-like towers off I94, since the skyway to Chicago is right around the corner. For me, the DJ Bone mix tapes from Motor keep me going. They used to broadcast him live on the radio nearly every month in 1998. Killer stuff. Oops! I mean discordant =) Still the tune eludes me. It was sort of the last track (before one more tune) but I'm pretty sure I've heard it before.
