tend to e the more pop oriented singles (let me know if there are more
underground tunes playing there - I have seen the Herbert video which was
cool)

there are more being done now, I'll agree but I know there has to be more
out there that just aren't popular enough to get on-air time @ mtv in the
US - the L.Garnier videos I saw on Rolling Stone's website for example -

Sputnik7.com have a number of interesting videos online. Last year we
made list of them at TechnoTourist.org ->

Haven't checked it recently, so perhaps they have more stuff now.

Has anyone mentioned the video to Rolando's Jaguar yet? I saw it on TV

all I have to say to this thread is that you should download and listen to
kevin saunderson at proper and tell me with a straight face that either (a)
kms has sold out or (b) that he would be better off building his set to
conform to conventional definitions of house and techno (that were really
just invented by journalists and record shop employees so they know where to
file tracks).

At "Come Together" a couple of years ago, I had a professional
digitally videotape the main room performances, including DJ Sneak and Carl
Craig's live performance as Paperclip People. He edited the footage
together into an approximately one-hour tape, with audio. It has never
officially been for sale, as I want to steer clear of burning bridges - but
I will have copies at our anniversary party this Friday. If you are coming
out, look for them.

2002-08-05 Thread Rob Theakston
control 3 is happening.

richie hawtin is using one room for his now legedary quad sound system (word
is they're bringing in an engineer from U of M to study the acoustic
feasability of the room for maximum sound impact) complete with decks efx
909 and whatever else he is using. and this time he's not only using
pyrotechnics, but he's going get into animal sacrifice.

lighting and visuals will be provided by martha stewart omnimedia and will
showcase the season's "in" colors.

tony orlando and dawn will be doing a fantastic opening set in the other
room, followed by a reunited alan parsons project keepin' it real with a 20
minute version of "eye in the sky".

at the end of the event (which is supposed to be 4pm this time) there will
be a singalong to the classic 80s hit "Do They Know It's Christmas?" led by
the M_nus all star team of derek plaslaiko, magda, kathie lee gifford, steve
bug, matt dear, alf, dale lawrence and clark warner.

but for all i know i could be wrong.

Wow, thanks! ...and... I'm sorry. It was not my intention to cause
people hearing loss. That night I employed 8th Day Sound (formerly Midnight

RE: [313] videos?

2002-08-05 Thread Neil Wallace

just looking at music dvds and spotted these:

808 State - Opti Buk
"17 '808 State' videos produced between 1987 and 1999, many available for
the first time."

Autechre - Gantz Graf
"A hypnotic blend of beats and tones, featuring the tracks 'Gantz Graf',
'Dial' and 'Cap.IV'."

theres probably more but i must do some work :)

also non-techno but very good are:

parliament/funkadelic - the mothership connection
sun ra - a joyful noise

[313] Laurent Garnier DVD Boxset

2002-08-05 Thread Langsman, Marc

Ive just come back from holiday in France and whilst there I managed to pick
up a yellow 'ltd edition' garnier dvd + ep boxset. The DVD has about and
hour of footage of LG live at montmatre and also the videos for greed, man
wt red face and baboo. The ep has 'unreleased' live versions of man wtrf,
baboo and battle.

Have to say its pretty good - Ive only skimmed through the DVD but its
pretty good watching [and is definitely better than the Greed DVD I got
which is a bit crap]. The EP is pretty decent too - I especially like the
ver of mwtrf.

I think this set me back under 15GBP [which is damn good value for a dvd and
an ep!!]. Ive seen it around in the UK since I got back so it shouldnt be
too difficult to get hold of.

easy,
Marc

RE: [313] techno/house divide (was Peacefrog Records special on B BC)

2002-08-05 Thread Odeluga, Ken
>I read somewhere that
>Herbert considers his music to be techno...

'P'

... Which is interesting, 'cause he produces a lot, and I mean *a lot* of
what many would call house.

I mean Derrick Carter grabs for his Classic Recs., any house Herbert has
available. Do you think Carter would be so enthusiastic if H called him up
and said: "I've got this GREAT techno track..."?

But then, even some Herbert stuff on Classic veers toward the 'techy'
demarcation lines are blurred and I don't think that's altogether bad.

Re: [313] So what is happening to Motor?

2002-08-05 Thread :P
hopefully someone else will come in and make it a cool club again

at least they are going out with techno instead of confiming to me the fact
that they sold out to trance.

this re-instills my faith in motor, although I must admit, if having trance
3 weeks per month meant one week of godo technno in that place, I would
accept the trance :)

(but I woudlnt go on trance nights)
