I use FS which has a text search facility - u cant really argue with that
really, no more flicking through record boxes just whap in a search string
and bobs your instant digitally encoded media :)

The latency on FS isnt too hot so itll be interesting to hear if/how much
better the rane performs [Id kinda hope with ranes reputation for
turntablist wares it would be]. Its quite funny actually ... the rane got
released and there was talk of it on the stanton FS forums ... now the
forums have been shut down "to provide customers with more precise
information" hmm intresting !

2nd'd. Been rocking my minidisc for the last week or so. It's not perfect
straight through or anything, and I dunno about the 'next level' comments,
but some very very nice music on there. Not a ton for the dancefloor but who
cares? I think the Dark Comedy album is supposed to have more dancefloor
material anyway.

Re: (313) Rane SSL

2004-06-28 Thread yussel
rane is just the distributor. Serato Audio Research is the designer of the
system.

seems to have a couple of extra features -mic input on the interface box,
(although i'm not sure what's wrong with just a mic input on your mixer)
slightly more varied gui- including some sort of visual beat matching
display (for wimps), and simulated spinning record label (for those who
can't just look down at the record?)

what really befuddles me is the fact that this is digital software that
will simulate playing on a CD player (!?). The turntable makes sense- but
are there people out there who really desire the CD player interface but
can' be bothered to lug those pesky discs?

it could be a great system. i'll have to ask tejada about it.

In the meantime- I'm wondering what other systems are out there that are
following in the footsteps of Final Scratch.

Has anyone seen a write-up comparing them all?

what was te one we were discussing a few months back (with the opens ource
code)

yeah, I don't think the ipod has a line-level input. The only decent mp3

Here's the answer I was given by someone that ought to know:

"Apparently it's better than Final Scratch. Tracks better, has less latency
and overall quicker response. But the interface looks cheesy. If you can
handle that, it's apparently got better codecs."

I know nothing about this product, but we had John Tejada DJ here in Atlanta
last week and he was using it. This was the first I had heard of it, it
looked pretty cool. Since I have never used FS either I can't really say if
it was better/worse/different, but what I can say is that Tejada is a killer
DJ and knew how to use the product quite well.

Here is a link to a few photos of him in action, you can't really see the
interface in the photos, but his powerbook is over to the right of the
turntables, click either forward or backward for a few other photos as well:
http://www.latenightessentials.com/gallery/viewer.phtml?gal=tejada&count=23

As I was watching him in action I was wondering if it's a tough transition
to go from using a bag of 100+ records at a gig to having an infinite amount
of music to choose from that must be searched on one's laptop harddrive. I
don't typically know song names, but know I want to play that Perlon song,
so I flip to the Perlon sleeve when DJing. Anyone have experience with this?
How are the search features set up? Search by artist, title, label, genre,
etc??

Re: (313) recording detroit techno sets with ipod

2004-06-28 Thread Jari Tolkkinen

I'm getting one of these:

http://nordic.iriver.se/products.php?p=9&m=H140&sid=7db9355b860ffc2f204aefac7a9c0a6c

It can record straight out of your mixer to .wav or .mp3. Only downside
(afaik) with this is that you cannot adjust the recording level. Hopefully
they'll fix that for their next firmware.

I caught more of their set than I'd have liked to. I thought they performed
well live, but I would have been happy just to hear 'Unfinished Sympathy' &
maybe a couple of others. Massive Attack definitely aren't what you want on
Saturday night at Sonar. They went off & I was quite relieved, then they
came out for an encore - another 3 tracks!!

last release by the Oscar rewarded for the soundtrack of ? The Last

Without having the confirmed timing of the songs and possible changes, the
repertory is composed of the following:

01.- Introduction
02.- Soe, inédito of Sketch Show
03.- Attention Tokyo, extracted from ?Loophole?, of Sketch Show
04.- Mars, extracted from ?Loophole?, of Sketch Show
05.- Scotoma, extracted from ?Loophole?, of Sketch Show

the concert are by Ryoichi Kurokawa.
