(313) Cylob @ Capsule 8/22

2004-07-27 Thread Cathryn Sunday
Cylob will be playing a live set at Capsule on Sunday the 22nd of
August.
It's the only date in this part of the Midwest. If there is anyone out
in Detroit, Cincinatti, Dayton, Pittsburg, Columbus, and any other
place I might be forgetting that can help me get the word out, I could
use the help.
I am having a large number of flyers printed up this week and would
like to send them out to record stores or other relevant venues that
would happily display them. If you know of such places in your area,
please email me the addresses privately. If you host a website that
lists shows--please add it to your calendar.

Thanks!
Cathryn Sunday

(313) React Has Gone?

2004-07-27 Thread Cyclone Wehner
THE SAD DEMISE OF REACT AND THE PHOENIXIAN RISE OF RESIST

Inertia is pleased to announce that they will be the Australian Distributors
for Resist Records.

React Music - one of the most successful and internationally revered
independent record labels - is no more. In its place, a new company, Resist
Music, has been set up by React’s James Horrocks and Melissa Kemp and has
since acquired the staff, rights and catalogue of React and is now
officially open for business.

Although React was enjoying its best period of turnover and profit for 5
years, the label was owed in excess of £1,000,000 in distributed income from
4am/Flute, part of the Beechwood Music group of companies that went into
voluntary administration in June. Following Beechwood’s closure, React was
unable to extract any monies due or trade out of such debts and as a result
the label was forced into voluntary administration on 16th June 2004.

During its 14 year history the label became a leading force in dance music
and club culture, synonymous with cutting edge compilations and singles
through series that included Reactivate, Drum Bass Arena, Bonkers, Café
Del Mar, Good Times, Dope On Plastic and Real Ibiza, as well as classic
singles such as Candi Staton’s ‘You Got The Love’, and Age Of Love’s ‘Age Of
Love’. Each release reflected a particular moment in dance music’s history,
and more often than not, React became an important catalyst in bringing that
scene, sound, or DJ to mainstream attention. The results were such that the
label became a commercial force to be reckoned with, as sales of some series
reached upwards of 600,000 units.

With the future firmly in their sights, Resist’s first release is Drum
Bass Arena featuring Fabio Grooverider, scheduled for release in August.

Further releases on Resist include: Norman and Joey Jay present Good Times 4
, Hardcore Till I Die , Ed Rush Optical Out Of The Box CD/DVD, Luke Slater
“Fear Loathing 2” and Bonkers and Bugged Out Presents Erol Alkan .

JAMES HORROCKS, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF RESIST MUSIC SAID: “It was with great
regret that we were forced to close React after 14 years of emotional
investment. However, everyone involved has been incredibly understanding
and supportive and the light has now been firmly switched back on with the
launch of Resist.”

Sometimes those Martian tracks have slightly different headline creditS
depending on the format. On the cd, there's no mention of 'Sex In Zero
Gravity' being a collab with Eddie Fowlkes, nor is there any mention that
'Firekeeper' has a big dollop of Ocatave One in the production. Mr Atkins
already also collaborated on 'Journey To The Maritan Polar Cap'. 'Search
Your Feelings' is the track A2 on that EP, RP4.

apparently I've always had it. I got a stack of Red Planet records way back

bagged them, played them and then eventually phased them out of my sets. how

agreed. Still i'd love it if someone on 313 would do a 'best of Wild

The first Wild Pitch mix I heard was of a Sven Vath track, of all things.
DJ Pierre kept busy in the early 90s!

I've never really heard the style described with any precision. Anyone want
to take a crack?

I've also heard the term 'Wild Pitch' for the beatmatching technique where
you throw a record on, cue it and let it go once, and then do everything else
with the pitch slider. I don't think that has anything to do with DJ Pierre.

just picked up a few items last night

Amplified Orchestra vs Dexter - Funk Force/2 Brownies a Bassline on
Clone - apparently only 500 copies? Doesn't matter, it's the best
electrofunk I've heard in ages (from outside Detroit)

Alton Miller feat. Sky -Choose to Believe on Deeper Soul Recordings - has
remix by Sweet Abraham
originally on Mahogani Music but I guess it was only a 3 min sample - the
full 7 minutes are on this newish release.

also picked up a sweet NY/NJ house 12 out of the sale bins - can't recall
the details but I seem to remember that Kenny Bobien lends his vocals to it
I think one of the tracks is called Going back to Zanzibar or something
like that. Big vocal tracks and one in particular is a stunner. I'll post
more details later.

(313) Fw: Dave Clarke - Press Release.... The Move from Vinyl to CD!!!!!!

2004-07-27 Thread Tom Magic Feet
The Move from Vinyl to CD

After some time (I wanted to move to CD in 1997) I have finally got a
machine that I believe is sonically and technically up to the job of
replacing the hallowed and much loved 1210. I was originally asked to
demo the Technics CD deck in New York at the beginning of the year but I
didn't have the space in my calendar, however after finally getting my
hands on one I have concluded that I will now switch over to CDs in the
short term, this will take some time and allow me to road test the
machine in clubs. Initially I will bring my own, but would appreciate
any promoters that read this and have budget to either hire or buy, to
supply 2-3 of them, eventually my technical rider will change and any
one with questions can send either an email to my office or speak to my
road manager direct. Please note that Pioneer/Denon or other makes of CD
decks will not be used, furthermore technical 1210s will still be needed.

I know some of you flat earthers will be upset, but whilst I love vinyl
its time has been written on the wall for ages and I felt that Final
Scratch and Albeton live wasn't for me in terms of interface and sound
quality (although some djs have their own valid and difference
opinions). In my mind at the moment the pros outweigh the cons, it will
speed up the both mine and other producers music to clubs (being cheaper
for smaller labels/artists), the bass frequencies will be fatter and
stereo (in non bridged systems), the flexibility in mixing techniques
not available to vinyl (and some computer systems ) are exciting, and it
uses a standard that is already tried and tested. The only cons that I
can think of are slower load up time than vinyl and inability of titling
each CD with vdu outlet to a central LCD. I believe these are not
 unsurmountable problems.

I must also say that this is an entirely professional decision, I am not
 sponsored by this company.

 Finally
Notice to promo/record companies and artists:
Please from now on can you send both vinyl and CD of all singles/albums
that you feel suit the material that I play out e.g.: Novamute, Ruskin,
inigo Kennedy, Victim, end2end, twilight, 76, turbo, Birmingham Boys,
DiskoB, Gigolo, electrix etc. etc. etc. Can all CDs please be labelled
clearly as cdrs without writing/print can easily be lost, also please
dont forget to finalize, and if it has been professionally mastered
please label production copy. Only 16bit 44.1 will be played, mp3 will
be ignored. Finally, if you can afford to, than please send any back cat
on CD if you know I have been a fan!

 Many many thanks
 Dave Clarke

2004-07-27 Thread Fred Heutte
The ultimate Wild Pitch track, of course, is Generate Power:

His first single once in Gotham was Photon Inc.'s Generate
Power, a dancefloor barnstormer released on the relatively
mainstream dance label Strictly Rhythm. Generate Power was
the formal debut for Pierre's new production method the Wild
Pitch, created with a quickly backspun sample which generated a
crispy lightning-strike of sound similar to the acid squelch.
