so here it is.

these messages going round about the state of techno and the community.
techno brings people

together. true. but the picture's still messed up'. it makes me sad that so
many of my records come from detroit because i want that kind of music
coming from my neighbourhood.
trouble is its middle class conservative and they teach classical music
and guitars at school.

they wouldnt know a kick drum if it kicked.
i want future kids producing techno that would wipe the floor with the
streets or mis-teeq
or whoever, proper music. from the heart. i remember living in bristol
where full cycle put on shows.
bristol organic. no detroit whatsover, but proper high tech soul
nevertheless. and from a local collective
who tried to develop their music in the community and teach kids how to
play. even then, i dont even 'get'

why new forms was so popular.
i also think of stories about detroit - altered states being composed by
ron trent as a fifteen year old or

james stinson inspired by hearing cybotron whilst on his bmx as a kid.

i dont think dj mani is really having a dig- i may be wrong. i think hes
just sad about the future and where
things are going. he may be very ignorant of the european scenes but even
here i cant see a new wave of stasis
clones unless there is more 'internal energy' and more kids being inspired
by techno in the world around them.

no disrespect to anyone on the list. just a couple of cents in the pot.

2004-10-05 Thread Renegade808
ok ok okalot of people have read into this WAY too much, and
rightfully so. as when mani wrote it i know he was trying to get a
reaction from it. we all know it was'nt the best way to say itbut like
i said it was HIS words and i think he was TRYING to get a reaction, which
some of you fell into hook line and sinkereven though it was not even
directed at you or this list reallythe message was posted to this list
as it was to MANY other lists i think in an effort to let people know that
mani is changing how his agency does business

For the last week mani and cisco from the advent have been sitting here at
my house with other dj's/ promoters on the west coast disscusing this
topic...i think anyone who heard it would understand the full context of
all of this (at least those of you who have seen the American techno
scene)it was not a europe bashing session...i mean jeeesh cisco was
here and i would say is a good representative of the European techno
scene...i mean cmon do you guys think we were all sitting around saying screw
europe lets not support them. ohh except you cisco..

so once again i am sorry if this ruffled everyones feathers but a friend
asked me to post it to this list and i do think its relevent..and
don't you people think that i understand Europes inpact on the American
scene i would invite anyone to look at my collectionI have what most
people would consider alot of records and own huge sections of
RS,DJAX,BUZZ,TRESOR,WARP,NOVAMUTE,HARDWAX,as well as many
otherrecords that i PAID for
and i thank Europe and the people who made them in my head everytime i
listen to one of
those gems.

for once it would be nice to see someone like Jason Brunton or many
others, to come over to our neck of the woods and play a nice party for
2-3 thousand people who love techno

so there now more tiesto bashing as i do think fred had a real good point ...

Why fight over the crumbs when you should be blowing up the bakery

and p.s i hate politics of the government kind so i aint even gonna try to
address those issues as they are not mine...

Kamal wrote:
I can understand where people are coming from with their angry responses
as a knee jerk reaction, I cannot see this stance holding water after a
sober read of his initial post.

I assure you that our response was not a knee jerk one, neither was our
reading of his original less than sober. It is his original post that was
anything but sober. While it is obvious that Mani spent a long time
considering his position, there is no indication that he spent nearly
 enough
 considering his post.

on the same note i would say that if european promoters are
getting the same treatment from american talent, STOP BOOKING THEM

You are correct in saying that we have the right to stop booking American
artists if we have been let down by them in the past. As does Mani with
European artists. And this is precisely what we have done. However this
 was
not enough. It was then necessary to gather a greater understanding of
American artists and find perhaps lesser known artists who were and are
 more
deserving of our support and booking fees. Simply shutting your doors is,
 in
your words, a knee jerk reaction. I was not being merely flippant when I
suggested a trip to Europe might benefit Mani greatly.

maybe his slogan should be Saving America from bad manners.

Certainly one way of saving yourself from bad manners is to never let
 anyone
into your house again. But let it be no surprise to you that this act will
be considered the height of bad manners by a lot of perfectly mannered
people who will never again receive an invitation.

Not sure if you were aware or not, but Narod Niki DID play at Mutek THIS last
year, so I'm sure that they'll probably be their next year. I've never
been to Mutek, but I'm getting the info from Ableton's site:
http://www.ableton.com/index.php?main=eventssub=narod_niki

NAROD NIKI is a collaboration project founded by Ricardo Villalobos that
was presented for the first time at last year´s MUTEK Festival. The idea
of the project is to bring together a number of techno masterminds to do a
live jam, hiding their identities behind a collective alias to keep the
attention dedicated to the music

...

The exact lineup will, of course, remain secret. Even so, it should be
quite obvious that the list of artists at this event can be nothing but
long and extraordinary!!

So, it wouldn't be the exact same line up, but something as good.

In http://www.downlowmusic.org audio/releases -
upcoming
the release date for The Connection Machine's new LP
is May/June 2004.
Has anyone got a clue if this has been only delayed
?and delayed and
delayed or cancelled altogether?

If it _is_ coming out I hope that there will be a
vinyl release also,
the site mentions only a CD (blah) ...

Jussi Been waiting this record for a 'while'
Lehtonen

full release will probably not be until next January
but I can tell you that there will be a limited
quantity available through Submerge in the next couple
days. So, those who can't wait may purchase it via
SID. There will be a 12 EP to accompany the album (CD
only sorry folks) later this winter which will feature
a few tracks from the album and an edit by a certain
Detroit luminary.

hope this helps,
