MC's are like Country Music, Pizza, and Democracy. When they're good,
they're great, and when they' aren't, they're awful.

My friend Max aka MC Duh, who does some hip hop and DB MC'ing is
really good. For one thing he lays out of the mix a lot, but when
he's in he's good. The secret, aside from some verbal skill, is to
listen and watch the crowd, so that when you get on the mic you're in
the moment, and not a distraction from it.

my guess is that these tracks are 'temponized' (fixed tempo to allow
steadier mixing) and re-edited so that the structure is more suitable
for mixing (and work better for some djs).

I am majorly confused. How can you re-edit a song without permission. I
had a friend who used to do those old ulti-mixes things and from
about 85' on they were legally forced to license everything. It's
strange that they can do anything to a Rick James for example and then
sale it, even if it's just hard quantizing.

Which leads me to my next question. What do you serious minded d.j.s
think of these fixed tempo or quanitizing of live percussion music.

I don't think bootlegs and edits are really comparable.

edits are alterations to the complete track. that is you don't have the
split elements (seperated bass, drums, synth 1,2,3,etc.) to work with.
Technically speaking, edits don't have any connection to bootlegs or legal
releases. It's purely a engineering/mixing term. Much like dub (that's a
whole other thread though).
Whether the original artist/label wants to give the editing artist access
to the original splits will determine if it is a remix or an edit.

A remix would mean that the person doing the remix had access to the
original split channel recordings. Chances that a bootlegger had access to
these is slim unless they were stolen from the artist or studio.

Bootleg is a legal term. Not a term for style of editing. It's just a way
to define the way in which it was distributed and under the condition it
was made - not the actual process in which it was made.

See, i dont look at it like that. theyre most likely going to get nailed
on this one, and the record wont get repressed. and if thats the case, the

the buyer didnt say what maurizzio say in the email as far as sueing them

thats all i know. i would go ask him, but i really dont want to press the
issue too much.

i guess there was no reason to open my mouth about it in the first place,
considering thats all i know. i was mainly just pointing out that news
has travelled from my post on here, to andrew duke, to BC themselves, and
then back to the buyer here.

the only reason i said anything is because they asked us about it, which i
can only assume means they are taking further action and werent letting it
slide by.

i have most of them as well, but for someone who doesnt, where the hell
else are you gonna find an x-tront cd?

i wish more labels would sell their back catalogues as mp3's. especially
since i have been in-and-out of the country for work the last 3 years
and bought little if any music during that period. personally i love
being able to buy only tracks i want and any vinyl i do buy gets
encoded anyways so why bother with the medium when its the message i
want.

I think it was in the old Jockey Slut article where I first read it.

.and oh! yeahyou were speaking of frequencies and how Jeff Mills is
exploring their effects on our vortexi- well- that excellent Liz Copeland
interview with Mike Banks on WDET from November (Someone posted, many
thanks from many people around the world!) delved into exactly that...deep!

One of the greatest (Australian) films ever was Picnic At Hanging Rock and I
have tried for years to get the music. There is a new DVD release of the
film with a documentary and they discuss the music. I wish they would
 release it! Exquisite.

Badalamenti is superb, did Twin Peaks, etc. Long association with
 David
Lynch.
Thanks for the tips, all excellent stuff!

im something of a danny elfman fan, his score for edward
scissorhands is the bomb. and the soundtrack for requiem for a
dream by clint mansell of PWEI fame is hot hot hot.

Probably someone filled out a form wrong or not in time - that's usually
what happens.
US visas are really hard these days.
Mind you, Aus is marginally better.

Well, that explains why it never showed up on his website. I wonder why he
had visa complications? He plays New York quite often (not that I'm ever
 able to go D:)

Happy Holidays,

quick update on Fri., Dec 17th @ 1015 Folsom

There will still be a slammin' TECHNO room upstairs on
Friday, Dec. 17th at 1015 Folsom, but I am sorry to
announce that Ken Ishii will not be appearing at 1015
on Fri. 12/17 due to visa complications. In an
effort to make up for this (even though we realize
that would be impossible) everyone who is on
Forest Green's and Teknotika SF's $10 dollar discount list
is now on the FREE before 12AM (midnight)
12/17 guest list, and $10 dollars after 12AM guest
list. so... you will now get in FREE BEFORE MIDNIGHT
if you are on the forest, mochi, yap, disconnect,
clairity techno room guest list. ;)
