sorry i'm late on this response tom. what you're saying is correct. nothing we're talking about is a direct cause and effect, nor is there an exclusive factor that makes a musical movement settle down into an institutionalized rut. i guess daytime city sanctioned events are more of a symptom of this homogenization, not the cause. but it still disappoints me to some extent. Hello Ewan. Did you try discogs? It says Fair Park is a sub label http://www.syntaxrecordings.com/ I believe, syntax acts as some sort of clearing house for small, one or two-artist outfits, and is contactable. Just got it in the post on Friday - it's tasty. Three tracks on it which are all quite hard to describe, easiest to say that they're 'shake-like'. Re: (313) new Shake 12 on Dust Science
You wrote: How would he know what electronic music is fashionable if he's not into electronic music? Because in the UK, magazines that pretend to be about music such as Mixmag, are actually lifestyle magazines that sell themselves with lurid stories about celebs in Ibiza, drug exposes and pictures of scantily clad female 'clubbers' on the cover. People who aren't into music buy these magazines, read them and think that the stuff they learn in there represents dance music. I don't think my friend is a Mixmag reader, but the same type of thing happens to a lesser extent in the glossy magazines that come with weekend editions of the national newspapers. Let's just say that coverage of dance music in the UK is pretty shocking (with a few notable exceptions).

This is going to be complete sweetness...Ayro is probably my favorite live performer in the D. Him and John Arnold get down when they play together. If you get a chance to hit this, do it... (313) Radio station with online archives?
Hey list. I'm blanking on the URL for a college/NPR station in Windsor/Detroit area that keeps online archives of their broadcasts on an hourly basis. I think this might be the station that Mike Huckaby has a weekly show on. Any info on the showtimes, or station ID, or URL is welcome. -- Ian (P.S. Anything else of electronic interest still happening on the Detroit radio front?)

Matt's road trip prescription reminded me of Losing My Edge. But then, nearly everything does these days . . . ! -- I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit from 1985, '86, '87 I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good sixties cut and another box set from the seventies I hear you are buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real You want to make a Yaz record I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars I hear that everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know Losing My Edge, DFA
