RE: (313) Another radio show you may like! ON AIR NOW
Just a reminder... His show is on now. Audio is at www.wrtcfm.com -Original Message- From: Anton Banks (www.antonbanks.com) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2007 11:02 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) Another radio show you may like! A good friend of mine has been doing a radio show at another station here in Connecticut for several years now. Some of you old school 313ers may remember him as a regular guest on the Hillbilly House show here in CT some years ago. I have been trying to get him to post info about his show on 313 for quite some time now but it is just not in his nature... so I am doing it for him. 'Technovisions' with O.L. From The Basement Alternating Wednesday nights. (Next show is tomorrow night, June 13) 7:30 to 10:30 eastern US time (GMT-5:00) Streaming audio is available at www.wrtcfm.com For what it's worth, I highly recommend his show. Orrin has been playing Detroit stuff since day one. I count OL as one of the people who got me interested in radio and shaped my tastes in music. Please give him a listen, you won't be dissapointed! -ant-
Re: (313) on another subject..
Thanks for putting this up!! For eveyrone else I think it is roughly 55 minutes in. There was so much energy there, great show, and i think all the touring the guys have done have now made them put on a really really awesome show. BTW I was talking to Lenny about touring and he said they can fit all their gear into 20 kg and they made their whole thing plug and play so it's pretty easy to get them out to play. So if you know someone who can put on a party you should definitely get them to come and play Given that the limit from the USA to Australia is 2 suitcases of 30 kg each that is a pretty awesome thing they managed to get it all into that. m On 6/13/07, Dan Bean [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, they were great. Re: (313) short video interview with Aaron Carl
Now here's something Vergel did that I highly recommend -- nearly an hour talking with Mike Huckaby about the ins and outs of current-day track production and how to make the music you want rather than the presets the computer gives you . . . and beyond that the broad context of where digital music is taking us . . . a lot of insights from someone who really knows -- and has made the effort to move forward without losing track of where we have come from . . . http://www.lx7.ca/podcasts/Lx7.ca-032-07-04-20-MusicTheoryAndTheSilentPlanet.mp3 Best quotes from Huck . . . the 'Art of Dummies Making Music' is over -- from here on out there's going to be a lot more skilled people influencing all genres of music . . . This won't be a silent planet . . . there will always be a need to produce music. Fred - While at DEMF this year I had the opportunity to pull Aaron Carl away from his kiosk and have a brief interview with him. I'm always curious to know what songs inspire artists I appreciate, partly because I'll go looking for that track, and partly because I think alot of ppl out there might want to know as well. I also like to know what sort of gear or production they might want to share as an idea to look into... I asked Aaron both these questions and was more then impressed with his response. Thought it might be interesting to some of us on the list. Give it a view if you're curious: http://www.lx7.ca/?q=node/349 I wanted to also thank Aaron for being fun and jumping in and letting me interview him without much prompting or planning. Not sure if he's on the list, but I know a couple of ppl who talk to him regularly are... I don't have his direct contact so if you could, please pass the info along. Thanks. Verg.

Re: (313) on another subject..
yeah, they've got a great setup now - played with them in vienna last year and they were able to put it all together and soundcheck in less than 45 minutes. was impressive how many bits and pieces they kept pulling out of their flightcases! surprised it's all so light... was even more impressive at the festival as they had to set it all up offstage and then just carry it on with 5 minutes left to plug it in to the system. and no soundcheck... ...lovely people too :) M Ng wrote: Thanks for putting this up!! im really salty i missed their set now, though i wouldnt have left rs no matter how good they were. their live set in 05 left much to be desired, the hiphop section was really bland and their actual dance bits seemed really pre-programmed and not too interactive. good to hear theyve got it together, id really like to see them now! tom On 6/14/07, Matt Chester [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: yeah, they've got a great setup now - played with them in vienna last year and they were able to put it all together and soundcheck in less than 45 minutes. was impressive how many bits and pieces they kept pulling out of their flightcases! surprised it's all so light... was even more impressive at the festival as they had to set it all up offstage and then just carry it on with 5 minutes left to plug it in to the system. and no soundcheck... ...lovely people too :) M Ng wrote: Thanks for putting this up!! Good work Vergel, all around. I watched a bunch of the episodes. I especially like the Sprockets-esque intro music!
Re: (313) convextion album now on beatport.com
thanks a lot for the nice comments Bill, and the plug Kent. The vinyl version of the album has probably been on beatport for about 4 months or so.. There is still a cd version of the album coming. It'll have a couple new tracks, and drop a few from the vinyl. tbr sept/oct -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Jun 12, 2007 3:59 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) convextion album now on beatport.com subject line says it all. If you didn't get the vinyl -- or if you did and want to doubly compensate the fine folks at down low -- whoomp, there it is! Thanks for posting this, Kent - I hadn't had a chance to listen to it yet at all, so having the samples via beatport/juno is great! On a quick listen to the samples, equanimity sounds just gorgeous, solum ferrum sounds like classic Maurizio (M6, anybody?), Astrum sound like classic Detroit stuff (DX bass, pitchbent synth leads, etc), Premiata wouldn't sound out of place next to anything on Carl Craig's Landcruising, and Frozen Surface has me wondering how this would have sounded on any of the DEMF sound systems this year (I have a feeling it would have blown any of them up - fantastic!). Great production for sure - I'll have to figure out if I'm going to pick my faves based on the samples or try to get the whole thing. Great work, DL! bvl

Thanks... just trying to capture and share what we love to the larger world. Glad you like the song.. Re: (313) on another subject..
they had it together back when i saw them at fabric 2002 .. or was it very early 2003. That was with all the brothers. they are now even better than that, even when there is 2 of them. Alright you lot. I haven’t forgotten - I have just switched ISPs and there are 'teething troubles' which loosely translated means my connection is all kinds of screwed up. Once I have it sorted, I'll post the link to the Tribe session and Detroit mix. I have to say, it isn't anything like I expected. It is actually better! This is proper heavy jazz. I didn't think I'd feel bad about posting this on my site, seeing as I record the show every week, but it turns out I do. I suppose I am just being a hypocrite though.
