A good friend of mine has been doing a radio show at another station here in
Connecticut for several years now. Some of you old school 313ers may
remember him as a regular guest on the Hillbilly House show here in CT
some years ago. I have been trying to get him to post info about his show on
313 for quite some time now but it is just not in his nature... so I am
doing it for him.

'Technovisions' with O.L. From The Basement
Alternating Wednesday nights. (Next show is tomorrow night, June 13)
7:30 to 10:30 eastern US time (GMT-5:00)
Streaming audio is available at www.wrtcfm.com

For what it's worth, I highly recommend his show. Orrin has been playing
Detroit stuff since day one. I count OL as one of the people who got me
interested in radio and shaped my tastes in music. Please give him a listen,
you won't be dissapointed!

2007-06-14 Thread M Ng

Thanks for putting this up!!

For eveyrone else I think it is roughly 55 minutes in.

There was so much energy there, great show, and i think all the
touring the guys have done have now made them put on a really really
awesome show.

BTW I was talking to Lenny about touring and he said they can fit all
their gear into 20 kg and they made their whole thing plug and play so
it's pretty easy to get them out to play. So if you know someone who
can put on a party you should definitely get them to come and play

Given that the limit from the USA to Australia is 2 suitcases of 30 kg
each that is a pretty awesome thing they managed to get it all into
that.

Re: (313) short video interview with Aaron Carl

2007-06-14 Thread Fred Heutte
Now here's something Vergel did that I highly recommend -- nearly
an hour talking with Mike Huckaby about the ins and outs of
current-day track production and how to make the music you
want rather than the presets the computer gives you . . . and
beyond that the broad context of where digital music is taking us . . .
a lot of insights from someone who really knows -- and has made
the effort to move forward without losing track of where we have
come from . . .

http://www.lx7.ca/podcasts/Lx7.ca-032-07-04-20-MusicTheoryAndTheSilentPlanet.mp3

Best quotes from Huck . . . the 'Art of Dummies Making Music'
is over -- from here on out there's going to be a lot more skilled
people influencing all genres of music . . .

This won't be a silent planet . . . there will always be a need
to produce music.

Fred

While at DEMF this year I had the opportunity to pull Aaron Carl away
from his kiosk and have a brief interview with him. I'm always
curious to know what songs inspire artists I appreciate, partly
because I'll go looking for that track, and partly because I think
alot of ppl out there might want to know as well. I also like to know
what sort of gear or production they might want to share as an idea to
look into...

I asked Aaron both these questions and was more then impressed with
his response. Thought it might be interesting to some of us on the list.

Give it a view if you're curious: http://www.lx7.ca/?q=node/349

I wanted to also thank Aaron for being fun and jumping in and letting
me interview him without much prompting or planning. Not sure if he's
on the list, but I know a couple of ppl who talk to him regularly
are... I don't have his direct contact so if you could, please pass
the info along.

Thanks.

yeah, they've got a great setup now - played with them in vienna last
year and they were able to put it all together and soundcheck in less
than 45 minutes. was impressive how many bits and pieces they kept
pulling out of their flightcases! surprised it's all so light...
was even more impressive at the festival as they had to set it all up
offstage and then just carry it on with 5 minutes left to plug it in to
the system. and no soundcheck...

...lovely people too :)

bits seemed really pre-programmed and not too interactive. good to

subject line says it all. If you didn't get the vinyl -- or if you
did and want to doubly compensate the fine folks at down low --
 whoomp, there it is!

Thanks for posting this, Kent - I hadn't had a chance to listen to it yet
at all, so having the samples via beatport/juno is great!

On a quick listen to the samples, equanimity sounds just gorgeous,
solum ferrum sounds like classic Maurizio (M6, anybody?), Astrum sound
like classic Detroit stuff (DX bass, pitchbent synth leads, etc),
Premiata wouldn't sound out of place next to anything on Carl Craig's
Landcruising, and Frozen Surface has me wondering how this would have
sounded on any of the DEMF sound systems this year (I have a feeling it
would have blown any of them up - fantastic!).

Great production for sure - I'll have to figure out if I'm going to pick
my faves based on the samples or try to get the whole thing.

Great work, DL!

It's some exclusive versions of tracks on his upcoming Tribe project.

He reassembled the existing Tribe members at his studio along with John
Arnold and Karriem Riggins (and others?) to make some new tracks in the
the spirit of the original Tribe recordings.

Apologies to those that already know, but Tribe was a 70s jazz
collective from Detroit on a similar tip to Black Jazz, Strata East
etc. They released some amazing records that are now heavy collectors
 pieces.
