(313) afterparty for Coachella (Kraftwerk night April26) in Cali?

2008-02-05 Thread Jos Bagdonas
Any 313ers/technotourists coming to Socal to see Kraftwerk, Modeselektor, MIA,
Hot Chip, Linton Kwesi Johnson etc, and want to have a little afterparty in the
desert? The lineup is not as great as it was in say '99, so it'd be nice to
have something else to attend that weekend to make it worthwhile musically. The
peak of the desert bloom is right around that weekend (April 25-27) down there,
so I do recommend a visit to Joshua Tree National Park apart from the varied,
sporadic attractions of Coachella (see coachella.com for line-up by day).

For those who want to host an afterparty or collaborate: we could bring down
our gear (Rebeltech Soundsystem, incl. generator etc.) from our mountain
stronghold up in Somewhere, California (it's between Redding and Eureka) but
would prefer to rent in Socal. We'd rather do it legally than
throw a renegade, to be honest, and unless most of the music is 313/Krafterk
rarities/proper electro/real deep house/disco/experimental/ambient, then we'd
rather not be involved. Otherwise we don't care who is actually djing (we can
throw legal parties of our own on a gorgeous mountaintop every day or night of
the year if we want, after all, but we don't have much of an audience (yet)).
Kraftwerk plays the Sat. night (April 26th) so it would probably make the most
sense to do the party after the fest shuts down that night (at midnight). It
would also be preferable to use a diesel generator so we could use biodiesel,
as it is nice to set an example at a public event. Let's make it happen!

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if any of you guys who are involved in running vinyl only
labels would be interested in a discussion about why you do this and
what the advantages are. I'm currently writing an article about this and
it'd be good to have some input if you do run a label that's vinyl only.
What I'd be interested to hear is as follows, and this is directed at
any individual running a vinyl only label:

Why do you choose for your label to release only vinyl? Is it love for
vinyl, or dislike for digital? What do you feel it achieves? Will you
ever release music digitally?

Do you worry about people who like your music who might want to buy it
digitally being alienated by this?

Would you release your music digitally if you thought it would open up a
new fanbase for you? Surely more people liking good music is best,
whatever format it's on?

It'd be really interesting to hear your thoughts,

Thanks,

Ronan

the needle to jump constantly the whole night! D'oh!!

Belgium was good also.

But, looks like I will be playing in Berlin at The Panorama Bar this

So I have four more gigs to do:

Friday Feb.8 : Barzilay club, Tel Aviv, Israel
Saturday Feb.9: Panarama Bar, Berlin, Germany
Friday Feb.15 : Liquid Lounge Club, Cork, Ireland
Saturday Feb.16 : Palais Club, Munich, Germany

Last I talked to him, he's getting his studio back together after

He still comes out to the check out artists at events around the city...

the last days
Current mood: amused
Category: Music

what a boring time to be a Dj , no more record shops, sitting on line
listening to downloads is the most irritating thing Ive had to do in a
long time,(WHACK IS THE WORD) the worst thing is to download a track
thinking it might be hot only to play it and its shit, there is no way
listening to a track on a computer on the fly ( IN A HURRY) is the same
as bangin it on a system to get the feel. This is not the future myself
and Juan Atkins envisioned , but it is what it is,,,ain't it! ill keep
bangin vinyl till its no more ,Cd's i can live with but downloads "i
ain't down for the load" mofoes look like there checking there
email.
welcome to the bland future.

If you want to know if there's a store near you you can eventually find out
from the website bershka.com after it's taken 15 secs to
load and you've stopped the music. Couldn't copy and paste the list as it's
all drop down stuff by country. Rob, I'll check their
Manchester store at the weekend and send any incriminating photos Monday.

RE: (313) Tuesday quiz question #1 - Moritz

2008-02-05 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Well done Rob - if I can't remember the second question you've scored 100%.
What a line up! I'm off to Berlin again in a few weeks time but if I'd seen
this I'd've been there for sure. I'll bet that live
set was something else. Is there a link to this anywhere? Curious as to what
gaff it was.

There are 2 questions but right now I've forgotten the second.

Anyway having just got back from abroad and being out-of-the-loop on
things round here I went out at the weekend and found out a friend was
over playing out in Berlin.

The friend that told me this said something like "wow Miles is over
playing in Berlin - and he's on either before or after Moritz VO". So I
asked "what a Rhythm & Sound thing?" But apparently not - according to
my friend Mr. VO has a new project working with someone else, doing
something a little different to R&S? Sounds really interesting,
especially if it has him out and about DJing - and something other than
reggae?

I checked the listings for the clubs yesterday but couldn't find any
clues (some had updated the listings already), I think the gig was part
of Transmediale. Anyone know anything about this?

2008-02-05 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
What a pleasure it is to read a thread like this when you know you're going to
be hearing the DJ in question in 12 days time!

And what's more he's one of 8 guests in a line up each and every one of whom
I'm looking forward to seeing.

http://www.computercontrolled.co.uk/

I've posted about this before so I'll content myself with repeating that this
looks like the best techno line up in Manchester I can
remember and for anyone heading this way to give me a shout.
