Anyone know anymore about this? Is this going to be an outdoor thing- such as DEMF or more like Mutek? It was nice of someone to put this together for my birthday :) link: http://www.minitekfestival.com/ Happy Summer! Diana
Re: (313) Minitek? (OT)
it appears to be more of a lets book richie hawtin and all his friends and call it a techno festival. i call things a festival if they involve more than one record label. otherwise its a showcase at best. its still sweet to have a full on technoish event in new york that lasts for days. just seems like very palatable techno, between marco doing slick clubby techno and minus doing their minus thing. anyways, not trying to rain on a parade, its just how i feel, and from a very quick glance, its just not jumping out at me as a 'you must go' event. i very well may still go, as all those people are techno people, and i like techno. Not knowing who someone is has nothing to with one's age. more so awareness...I have absolutely none these days. Michael- I feel your observations. At first glance of the roster it's easy to say 'oh I'm going to go see the Berlin standard'.As if the promoter chose 'package B' from the Berlin DJ menu. But then again- more power to them. I'd like to see some Dan Bell, Morgan Gheist in the mix...to just spruce it up a bit. Though I'm curious to hear what Jeremy Caulfield is up to these days. What about a 313 in the n-y-c night? Re: (313) Minitek? (OT) 313 in the nyc?
i am not sure what saying more power to someone saying 'berlin techno b' has to do with dan bell or jeremy caufield has to do with anything. its called a festival and its just not. its a showcase of the performers and promoters that hold new york techno through nepotism, and are taking the wave of hipness by letting hawtin print more money through bookings. thats fine, but its not something that touches me. Re: (313) Minitek? (OT) 313 in the nyc?
New York City is a tough place to book shows. I have huge respect for Bryan Kasenic who has put on events for years that, even if they're not Detroit-centric, are always respectable line-ups of artists who would interest members of this list. But there's always a hundred things going on every night, so the audience is fragmented, and NYC is a place people are very status- and fashion-conscious. It's all too easy for someone still working at the top of their game to fall off the 'It' list and play to empty rooms. As for that festival -- whatever. The line-up sound interesting around the edges, and if you don't like it find one of the 99 other things happening to do instead. Or create your own fun -- find a bar and hit up all your friends, acquaintances and enemies and play some records. Who knows, if your haircut and shoes are right, you might become 'It.' I just want bouncy castles. I saw some great ones in Europe last month, by the way, especially in London at a local festival in Haringey. Any grubby rave promoter circa 1992 who wanted to dazzle the massive had a bouncy castle. fh
