Re: (313) Prisencolinensinainciusol?
great track with a nice story. celentano is singin' his own pseudo english. i read somewhere (can't find the link at the mo) that in those days he wanted to prove that people in italy just liked/bought pop songs with english lyrics (instead of songs sung in italian), although they didn't understand any / care about the lyrics anyway. so he pretended he was singin' english. i think there's also a term for his language: celentanesca (or something similar). sounds like a very early rap song to me, in 1974 that must have been pretty ahead of its time. c* Andrew Duke schrieb: kent williams wrote: I happened on this on Idolator, and it sounds like a Theo Parrish track with Italians spouting gibberish over it. There are many DJs -- Claude Young, Dan Bell, Rob Hood, Buzz Goree, Ken Karl Meier, Alan Oldham, Mike Huckaby come immediately to mind -- who stay more on the techno side of the fence and still manage to do interesting, dynamic, butt-moving sets. And of course, all of the people mentioned above will drop a house record if it fits what they're doing. What I'm finding interesting is that it's not just that mnml DJs are changing their tune(s) but that promoters are booking guests who would have been outside of their comfort zone 18 months ago. Jose Gonzales is just scraping the surface of acoustic music You aren't going to hear a lot of the DIY labels on ANY radio that's where so much of it is at now Of course there's tons of nonsense but there always has been. Now with the way artists don't have to rely on record label $$ and the major label machine to get their music out you can find some really great music I'm constantly finding new great stuff via myspace - find one good artist and follow their links. you've found a good artist on myspace?!?!?! maybe our standards are different. i would rather listen to something i know i like than something that just isn't top notch. myspace is such a waste of time for me musically. yeah, just got to find the right artists and peruse their friends list it takes effort to find it all i put out tons of effort and i still get nothing. i definitely have a much higher rate of return on older music. i could just be a hater though, i've been accused of that in the past. Not so much of a hater - fixed is a better description maybe? Re: (313) Guillaume the Coutu Dumonts?
i like his productions as well. only know a few tracks, tho. i still need to catch up his album. but i'm a big fan of the les gans 12 on musique risquée. the original is very good and the audio werner remix is even better. he gave it a slo-mo dubtechno twist, combined with those horns: stunning! opium on wax. there's an excerpt on www.myspace.com/audiowerner philip sherburne did a remix as well (http://www.myspace.com/philipsherburneproductions), unreleased as far as i know. and before anyone starts hatin': listen to it, it's not just another mnml track. ;) c* kent williams schrieb: If you get beatport e-mails, they just sent one out about DEMF charts, which are musical charts by DJs/Producers who will be appearing at the festival. He started out as a percussionist and played in jazz bands before getting into techno, which to my way of thinking is a big plus -- someone who learned to play music before getting into dance music, instead of first working on how best to trim their facial hair, and what sort of shoes to wear. His tracks sound pretty straightforwardly dance-y but with rocking hand percussion and cool sound design... Anyway, anyone else have any recommends for his records? I'm looking forward to what he does at the festival.

Re: (313) Justice
speaking of dj funk: in an interview (for those who understand german: http://www.de-bug.de/texte/4588.html, quite funny read...) he says that he's going to release stuff on ed banger. as far as i know there's only a remix for justice's waters of nazareth so far. oh, back on topic. if you wanna see him and the ed banger posse clowning check: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrLxDZeqiw0 (even if don't dig the music, you have to give respect for the raw energy in that room, hilarious) c* Contrast what he does with, for example, DJ Funk. I know Chuck a little -- he's played here several times, and I spent one very weird night driving him around town. Nice enough guy. Funk is very much an authentic proponent of Booty House. But his show consists of mixing between two CDRs in Pioneer CD decks, and him jumping around and clowning. People seem to like it, but as far as a musical performance goes, give me Tittsworth any day.

you're not alone, Cyclone. i enjoy some of the justice, dj mehdi, digitalism, boyz noise, mr. oizo etc.., too. d.a.n.c.e and phantoms pt. 2 are huge. the thing is: too much of that stuff in a row annoys me too. maybe it's a bit too calculable, maybe it's just that i'm getting old. c* Cyclone Wehner schrieb: Yeah I didn't know it was some faux pas to mention them here.
