I don't think it needed a remix either, but I don't think it's forbidden to
touch and remix awesome tracks and to give them a different feel. I really dig

Re: (313) Prisencolinensinainciusol?

2008-12-20 Thread Carlos de Brito

great track with a nice story.

celentano is singin' his own pseudo english. i read somewhere (can't
find the link at the mo) that in those days he wanted to prove that
people in italy just liked/bought pop songs with english lyrics (instead
of songs sung in italian), although they didn't understand any / care
about the lyrics anyway. so he pretended he was singin' english. i
think there's also a term for his language: celentanesca (or something
similar).

sounds like a very early rap song to me, in 1974 that must have been
pretty ahead of its time.

This should be said: Techno is a lot bigger than
Berlin-minimal, and one could remain a Techno DJ and never
touch a track from Richie or Magda's USB drive. There are
many DJs -- Claude Young, Dan Bell, Rob Hood, Buzz Goree, Ken
Karl Meier, Alan Oldham, Mike Huckaby come immediately to
mind -- who stay more on the techno side of the fence and
still manage to do interesting, dynamic, butt-moving sets.

And of course, all of the people mentioned above will drop a
house record if it fits what they're doing.

What I'm finding interesting is that it's not just that mnml DJs are
changing their tune(s) but that promoters are booking guests who would have
been outside of their comfort zone 18 months ago. For instance the Run
parties here in London were ostensibly quite mnml (and/or minimal) and now
they have Alton Miller booked for their next party. I really wouldn't have
seen that coming. Have a look at their past guests and you'll see what I
mean: http://www.runsounds.com/events/

Another thing that I think might be unique about this is that it's a younger
crowd who are now being fed unapologetic deep house. And quality older house
as well. This trend has nothing to do with being the most current (yet). God
knows in what horrible way this will get compartmentalised and repackaged
over the next year or two if the trend persists, but it's an interesting
moment Right Now, for whatever that's worth.

After poking around, one of the best producers I hadn't neard of was
Guillaume Cout Dumont. I like the tracks on his myspace page, and the
sound samples at Beatport. He started out as a percussionist and
played in jazz bands before getting into techno, which to my way of
thinking is a big plus -- someone who learned to play music before
getting into dance music, instead of first working on how best to trim
their facial hair, and what sort of shoes to wear.

His tracks sound pretty straightforwardly dance-y but with rocking
hand percussion and cool sound design...

Anyway, anyone else have any recommends for his records? I'm looking
forward to what he does at the festival.

I don't know what's funniest about this eBay auction (as that is what
Martin's link is to). For those who haven't followed it, it's
a guy selling The World's Greatest Music Collection, 3 Million Records,
 300,000 CDs, 6 million+ Song Titles for a $3 million
starting bid. Amongst the contenders are:

The eBay user who's question is

Q: Do you have anyone in technichal support that can tell me if I could
fit all of these songs on to my 30GB Ipod Video?

The eBay user who's question is (despite loads of previous answers that
they won't split the collection in any way)

Q: I am simply interested in 'Here comes the Hot Stepper' by Ini Kamoze.
Would you be able to separate this classic from the
collection and sell it to me?

or eBay themselves who entice you to bid with the fact that you may be
able to get $10 back on this item.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

No words on this but the program there on Saturday (Tyree Cooper, Baby

 know that's where I'm going.
If anyone's about and wants to meet quite a few of my friends and I will
probably go to Weekend either Thurs or Friday (I'd like to

sure of getting in, or whether Friday won't be too bad to
get in as there's no real big names on?), Tresor followed by Berghain
Saturday and Watergate Sunday for the Manuel Göttsching party.

One question maybe someone on here can answer (or at least point me in the
direction of where I might get an answer) is - what time
is the headline name usually on in Berghain? I've been mightily excited
about another visit there only to find its Layo and
Buchwacka this week. *£%$^*£! If it's possible to time being there to
coincide with seeing some local talent rather than them I'd

Mark Pritchard / Steve Spacek : Turn It On (Sonar Kollektiv Germany)
-Not what I was expecting it to sound like. More techno. Stupid baseline.

i love this. must be the best 'broken beat'-tune i heard for a long time.

some 12 that i picked up lately and remember:

Smith N Hack - Space Warrior (Smith n Hack 03)
http://hardwax.com/54231/
Wild Moroder-disco madness by Berlin’s disco-house dream team - TIP! (incl.
lots of computer games sounds, didn't expect to like it, but it's great. also
the less ill Falling Star on the flip

Sven Weisemann - Cabana Fever (Mojuba 006)
http://www.voices-records.de/shop/catalog/19320
theo fans will dig the percussion- and chord-laden the a side, nice dubhouse
track on the flip.

Moodymann - I´d rather be lonely (KDJ 036)
http://www.myspace.com/moodymann313
finally on wax, after listening extensively to the track on his myspace account
(btw: i'd never expected to find kenny there...). sound quality rather dubious,
but i really dig this.

Luciano - Fourges et sabres (Perlon 62)
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=39486
yes, it's rather mnml, but hey: it's luciano. he can do no wrong. beautiful
tune, beams you directly into a rainforest. and although it's 15 minutes long,
it feels cut short.

speaking of dj funk: in an interview (for those who understand german:
http://www.de-bug.de/texte/4588.html, quite funny read...) he says that he's
going to release stuff on ed banger. as far as i know there's only a remix for
justice's waters of nazareth so far. oh, back on topic.

if you wanna see him and the ed banger posse clowning check:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrLxDZeqiw0

(even if don't dig the music, you have to give respect for the raw energy in
that room, hilarious)

c*

Contrast what he does with, for example, DJ Funk. I know Chuck a
little -- he's played here several times, and I spent one very weird
night driving him around town. Nice enough guy. Funk is very much an
authentic proponent of Booty House. But his show consists of mixing
between two CDRs in Pioneer CD decks, and him jumping around and
clowning. People seem to like it, but as far as a musical performance
goes, give me Tittsworth any day.

that's the name of a popular ice tea at berghain/in berlin, with lots of
caffeine: http://www.club-mate.de/cws/php/site4.html).

otherwise how could toby made it to ame's set at 12? ;)

 hi all
this seems a sick thing for (ao) Belgian users it seems: megaupload
always states that 'all downloads slots for your country (Belgium) are
in use 'at the moment (sic)'.
I wouldn't really know what the sense in this is; but it's been for two
months now that megaupload makes it impossible to people in our country
to download without such toolbar. Which is a sad thing :-(
who can help/would want to help?
 thank you

2007-02-06 Thread Carlos de Brito
must hunt down the new nwaq and those two by san proper (totally new to me,
infos anyone?), too. they sound right up my strasse.

as for news, not much over here. a few, tho:

there's a quite good martin buttrich remix for german electronic-pop act
2raumwohnung called besser eght's nicht:
http://www.voices-records.de/shop/catalog/15764

the onur özer remix on the second remix ep is not bad either, but that's only
if you don't mind the m-word. in a cadenza kinda vein.

if you like dark, psychdelic disco check the new new padded cell on dc
recordings, moon menace.

oh, and the forthcoming joakim album ´monsters silly songs has nothing to
do with his detrotish remix for antena's camino del sol nor lionel hampton's
vibramatic. but: it's everything else. and it's crazy stuff. check his latest
guest mix on beats in space and you'll get a slight idea.

2006-10-16 Thread Carlos de Brito
strobocop is one of my favourite djs in cologne from the kompakt associated
crew. excellent tunes, always on point. does he still produce? haven't heard a
production from him for a long time.

btw: the guy's called trentemøller, not trentemollier.
he's swedish, not french ;)

oh, and his album is indeed very good, thank god not a collection of dancefloor
tracks, but a real album. some parts remind me of massive attack and
portishead, but in good way. very recommendable.

Does anyone hear like the Trentemollier album, The Last Resort? It's
not like his singles, but deeper - deep with minimal turns. Reminds
me a bit of Daniel Lanois on the first cut. V impressive! Also here
in Melb we had a guy called Strobocop from Cologne who's v
impressive. Anyone into him here on 313? I am clamouring for his
music now. I am kicking myself for missing him and Marco Passarani.
Both were/are guests of the Red Bull Music Academy. But I did see
Ryuichi Sakamoto's Insen with Carsten Nicolai and that was
incredible!!! Must see! The tragedy is that Sakamoto has NO knowledge
of Detroit techno... He needs to hang with a Mills, a May, and hear
 their music!

 samples...clear...whuh...:P
do you think any of this stuff actually gets sample clearance? (honest
 question)

okok, you're right i'm aware of that huge sample usage especially in the
past by both. i was just thinking about that kdj09 double 12, which was afaik
very limited due to probs with that prince sample from 'all the critics love u
in n.y.'. i thought that could have been the reason as well for not releasing
freaky mf, as it sounds quite princey...

i was just talking about this exact question, moodymann and theo and
sampling etc, last night with my gf..
i really doubt even their higher profile stuff on planet e or peacefrog
has sample clearance, but i'm purely speculating..

hmm, no idea. on a side note: i just found out that there's an original to
theo's friendly children track (released on ss) from august darnell. but you
guys knew that already, rite...? ;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist. But you could try answering this question yourself by
consulting GEMM and even discogs. If you log in to the latter, the page for

how many (if any) are for sale.
