Well the plan isn't Mr. De' its me. This was a digital version of the
release I put together for the mp3 website I helped Ade run at the time
which was called Detroit Digital Vinyl. The natural condition was a track
that was never put on a vinyl release. It was from a period quite a bit
earlier. There is still allot of unreleased material from that project.
There were plans to release the entire project but life gets in the way
some times and it never really happened. It still trips me out to hear
somebody bring up that release.

(313) R.I.P. Aaron, I'll truly miss you

2010-09-30 Thread cliff thomas
Hear Ye!Hear Ye!One of the greats is gone...

It's hard to know exactly how to start this. There are allot of people
you'll meet in your lifetime. Some of them you may just pass by on the
street ,make eye contact and never get to know anything beyond that.
You may spend some time afterward imagining what you think they are
like, how they live, what they're thinking, who they're friends are
etc... Some of them you get to meet and hang out with for a bit. You
find out how unhappy they are, how unfulfilled their life seems to
you. Some you meet live their life in a manner worthy of a Norman
Rockwell painting. They seem to have it all, they have the wife, 2.5
kids, minivan, excellent credit, white picket fence and a retirement
account.

Very very few you meet in life are like an Aaron Carl. If fact it may
be so rare that I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if you
never knew Aaron Carl you missed out cause there will never be another
one. There are people in this world that deserve your tears. People
that never spoke out loud about anything and never used their short
time on this earth to leave a mark. The people that you should cry for
are people who never knew themselves, or that ones that do but never
bring up the courage to live openly in front of the world so that
everybody will know the truth. This was not Aaron Carl...

Aaron was just one of those people who's entire life was a true
expression of who he was on the inside. He just didn't have that thing
in his head that allowed him to hide what he felt from the world. He
was not an actor, he was not just some personality, he was just Aaron.
You were either cool with that or you were more cool with the door
knob hitting you in the ass on the way out. He was loved by many
people all over the world for that alone.

He was blessed by God with a talent for expression that anybody should
envy as well as a need to express that consumed his every waking
moment. Like most of us that attempt to express ourselves the emotions
run deep. The joy and pain of life and the differences between the
highs and the lows are vast. For some the toll it takes on you and the
costs are great. But like most of us realize the payoff is worth much
more than all of that. The hope is that all of the blood, sweat and
tears are enough to make a mark on this world that last well beyond
the short life we were honored to live. Do not shed a tear for Aaron,
he accomplished it.
The music

OMG the music was something that none of us will be able to forget. He
had a sound and a unique way to make things happen in a dance track
that few in this world will be able to match much less try to emulate.
He had a way to make a track both emotionally deep and exciting. If a
tear must be shed let it be for all of us that will never have another
chance to learn more from him in person about music. Nobody can ever
deny that the man was gifted. If you never had the chance to meet
Aaron in person but you still want to know the man all you have to do
is listen to his body of work. All of this will survive him long after
the shock of his death has worn off. He had a genuine love for this
city ,the music scene in it and made a genuine effort to try to make
things happen. I know that he was a huge influence on me personally as
well as many others around him.

My sincere condolences go out to all of his family and to all of his
other friends. If there is anybody to shed a tear for it's them along
with all the others who will no longer have a chance to know the man
behind the music.

May he forever rest in peace while the rest of us do our best to live
in peace and make the best of this short time we are allowed to be
with each other on planet earth. True death only comes to those who
never truly lived and true life only comes to those who live the
truth.

Sincerely,
  Cliff Thomas

(313) New Submerge Recodings label Polyphase Recordings looking for demos....

2007-04-12 Thread Cliff Thomas
Yes we're looking for Demos
This new label has been started to give some new artists a chance to be heard
without just giving away their music like other web-labels. We plan to take a
new direction on the whole game. We are not going to have a restricted format.
We're looking for good music and new sounds to throw out there on the open
market. We will offer short licensing contracts and to not plan to keep the
masters from the artists. We have a huge digital distribution network that will
ensure that this music gets out there so everybody has access to it and all the
artists we be paid from the sales. We are looking for artists with a diverse
sound. As long as the music is hot we don't care what "genre" it's called. The
most popular tracks and EPs will also have a chance of making it to vinyl and
CD compilations for sale worldwide.

If this sounds good to you send your demo to:

2007-02-13 Thread Cliff Thomas
Everybody in Detroit knows the bus system and the peoplemover is a sad joke. It
originally was supposed to go all the way down to New Center and back which
would have really helped pull at least the center of the city together but who
in the hell knows what happened to all that money. It only goes in a one mile
circle around downtown which is absolutely useless considering that most of the
people that work downtown commuter there by car. This city government is
absolutely corrupt, the mentality of the streets goes all the way to the top.
Mike is 100% on the money with that statement.

This tigers team is something special just like that boston team was a few
years back. I'v been watching them more during this season that i probably did
the last 15 years combined. These guys are no joke. They are the most balanced
team in the playoffs and when they are on point they are un-beatable. If you
guys watched the last two games you saw how out cold their pitching can be from
the starters and the madmen we have in the bullpen like Zumaya and Jones. All
the players we have this year are blue collar types. The detroit public does
not like pretty boy teams. I was around for the 1984 season even though i was
young and i remember watching it on tv like it was yesterday. Some stupid
bastard came up with the idea of calling detroit "Hockey Town" but that is and
has always been complete bullshit. This town has been a hardcore baseball town
for over 100 years and if you watch that crowd in the stands on tv you'll see
that right off the bat. It just sucks that we took so long to in-between
winning seasons. If people don't enjoy watching the Tigers win this year they
must be a bunch of assholes :)

Hmmm I know this obviously whack. UR have the right to do what they want with
their tracks. And the last thing that should be
happening with them is that some bootlegger scum is lining his pockets off
them. But it would have been faintly amusing if someone
had just bootlegged like 1 or 2 copies of these for his own personal and maybe
his mates use (all for pleasure no $ involved). Sort
of rebelling against the resistance... "Up yours assault DJ! I have your
Z-Tracks!".

Disclaimers:
I like UR
I do not condone bootleggers in anyway - death to them!
(especially those who bootleg records I have ;-)

P.S. Cliff how do you manage to post HTML mail to the list? Is this a secret

Somebody has been bootlegging copies of one of the Z-Tracks records and
charging a rediculous amount of money for them.
Anybody that knows about UR knows that Z-Tracks are for UR Assault dj's only.
The bootleggs in question are on black vinyl and have
"Made In Germany" printed on the runout groove and the catalog number URZT-1.
Z-Tracks were never put on to black vinyl. Look out
for a official statement and a picture representation of what real "Z" records
actually look like on the Underground Resistance

support the bootleggers if you find a copy. If you see one in the store let the

(313) Submerge Podcast Is Online!!!!

2006-09-19 Thread Cliff Thomas
Our sole purpose is to shed light on electronic music from and associated with Detroit. We feel there have been many interviews done by these artists all over the world where the interviewer have asked questions that only touch the surface of what the artist has to offer and have to say. There is nothing more frustrating to an artist then being asked questions by people that don't know their work or know the right questions to ask to truly get down to the artists personality and real thoughts about their own art.
We plan to get at the very core of the artists and bring you a side of them that you would never otherwise hear on a conventional radio or TV interview. We plan to make this "The Definitive Show: For Those Who Know". This is something that we’ve needed for a very long time but as with our music as you know the technology has always had to catch up to the music.  It is time to bring these artists the respect they have always deserved.
In order to make this happen we had track down people with a true love for the music and a real understanding of the task at hand. We could think of nobody that has more love and dedication to do the job right than "Magic" Mike Young and Natalie Chickee.
"Magic" Mike Young has earned a huge amount of respect locally for his former show "Stick It In Your Ear" which at the time it was running was the only true radio show in Detroit who's main focus was local electronic music.
Natalie Chickee comes from across the river in Windsor, Ontario and is currently doing a show at CJAM radio, which has a focus on all types of local music from Hip Hop to Techno.
Both of these hosts have a drive that few can match and a real love for the music.
Now the time has come for us to wage Electronic Warfare upon the media world and place our own stamp upon the history of this music and bring light upon the masses. Get ready.

I have no problem with people trying to hustle. In this business if you're not a hustler you won't survive very long. So here's the story...

Me and two freinds get booked to go play in chicago for this promoter named Myles who claims to be affiliated with Alan Oldham. We had played for this guy one time before and had no problems but even then something about the way he talked set off my bullshit detector so i was already on the lookout for shady things to come from this douchebag.

We all got booked to play on wednesday night and were told before we came out that there was another gig to play on friday for him. about 3/4 of the way there we get a call from him that the friday gig was canceled and that kind of pissed me off because i had already taken friday off of work to come play for this fool. If i would have thought that a wednesday gig was the only thing we would have had then i wouldn't have wasted my time coming out there and gone to work to make some money to pay my bills.

So we finally get to Chicago and we meet up with him. First thing he did was give us money to cover the gas which was cool and i thought maybe this guy isn't so bad. I don't think it was the choice of the story that did him in. No matter what story he told there is no way i was leaving without my shit. When i told him i would have kicked down his door to do it i wasn't joking.

I'v just found out more info on the guy:
his full name is Miles Christian and for dj sets etc sometimes he uses the alias "Mauser"
He claims that he has a record (aka the mediocre reason tracks) coming out on Generator and claims to be boys with Alan Oldham

Thank God I haven't. This should be made into afterschool film. Atleast you still have your stuff. Atleast you weren't naive. Atleast you weren't like many of us, out of our elements, willing to trust people. I think his choice of bad story telling is what did him in. Raided by the cops? I mean who gets raided by the cops? That story would've been like a tractor beam for me. I would definitly want to go up there before, if there were actually police there, and claim my stuff before it gets entered into police evidence as stolen merchandise. what a flake that guy was. Atleast you're not naked, thumbing your way off of truck stops off of I-94, while that guys' at the pawn shop on Clark street selling your gear for rent money and cock roach spray. Try to have a better weekend.

I asked him if this was the place we were staying and he said yes, it was a nice place too in a good part of town and close to everything so i thought everything was looking good to me so me and my freinds decided to go get something to eat before the gig. After that we get to the gig after first stopping by the place he says he's moving into in a week so he could get some needles for the gig. One of my freinds went up there with him and when he came back he said there was no furniture in the place and the cockroaches were running around with bandito outfits on. At least we weren't staying there, i thought, and we proceded to go to the gig. We get there and the place is about thew size of a closet (The Ashland). We go to play and there are two 12 inch monitors and a janky ass pioneer 2 channel mixer with no headphone levels and only one slider with the plastic piece on it. After about an hour of playing to nobody a few people walk in and tell us that nobody did any promotion for the night and nobody knew we were there until a few hours before. I decided to not play anymore and let my freinds have the money because it was obviously a lost cause there anyways and proceded to try to get drunk but the drinks were so watered down i couldn't even get going. After the gig was over we went over to see a local detroiter who was in town play (John Johr) at a pretty nice place. About 10 minutes after we get in the stupid shit starts.
Myles comes up to us and tells us that he just got a phone call that his place got raided. For some reason the way he said it to me was not convincing so i knew he was trying to pull some shit. I told my boys that he had to be bullshittin' and we should go and get our stuff. So we all go to him and say we're going back to the crib to get our shit. He tried to tell us that we couldn't go and get our shit because the cops were there, he didn't say this convincingly either and i smelled even more bullshit from him. I told him that there is no way i am going to not get my shit. I told him

After him trying to stall and tell us we cant go up all of us were like no way we're leaving without our stuff and he opened the door and we went upstairs. The inside door opens to the crib and lowe and behold there is somebody standing there that none of us met earlier and he wasn't a cop. It turns out that the place belonged to him. After a while of him talking with his freind in the back room and feeding us more bullshit about what happened all of us came to the conclusion that he never asked if we could stay there and it definitly wasn't his crib we were at. After leaving the place and standing outside calling everybody we knew in the area (around 4 am) and getting ahold of none of them while watching him make fake phone calls my freinds decided they had had enough and wanted to leave after about an hour of calling him a fucking hoe i just told him to turn around and walk away like a bitch.
I'v rarely ever have been so pissed off in my life.
Don't get me wrong, i love Chicago. However if assclown promoters like this are what i can expect in the future there is no way i'm ever coming back for a show.

Have any of you ever ran into this fool?

We're currently working out the kinks right now. We're having first week growing pains. We seem to have one problem with credit card approvals that only seems to be a problem for certain customers. As soon as we have it fixed which should be in the next few days or maybe hours i'll post something in this thread.
Thank you,

IF2 is up on the site right now, but good luck buying it. The site is really shaky. I advise waiting a week or two. I sent them an e-mail . . . hopefully they'll get the issue ironed out. I really want to spend some money there. -bp

Hi,
Sorry that my first post on here is spam, but i thought you might want the heads up on this new MP3 site for Submerge. This site has been a while in the making and we will be ready to launch in a few days. This site will feature Exclusive MP3's from the submerge catalog of classics along with special MP3 only releases in the future. We will also feature a new regular Submerge Podcast broadcasted from the Submerge bunker. We will be continuously adding new material to the site to keep it fresh for everybody as we go. We will also be offering memberships with that can give discounts on music up to 50%.
We will also start very soon start searching for more labels to take on board to make our selection of music grow even further.
When the site is launched this will be the first place i make it known.
