I believe I saw a second hand copy at courthouse if Iam correct, when I
visited them the other day...
cover was wasted but vinyl in mint condition!
Just ask them, I am almost certain they have it.

Check www.courthouse.nl and ask for ZoRQ.

2004-06-21 Thread Dr. Nutcracker
Hi Alex

In short... it was a damn shame the sound engineers of Paradiso didn't knew
what to do... again.
Nice guys though, but the level of their work was alike a small towns local
bar... therefor the band couldn't really hear what they we're doing.
Therefor it might have sound a bit crap for the audience. Compaire it with
London Jazz Cafe where the sound engineers are doing a sound check upfront,
with an average Rock CD.
And Theo... he just still isn't used to the Dutch grass after several
visits... now that doesn't help.

(313) new Pseudo

2004-04-08 Thread Dr. Nutcracker
Just to post a fresh topic here...

I've just heard the new Pseudo 005.
French label and home of Richie Inkle, whereof I reviewed the debut release
of some time ago for the courthouse.nl website.
Some other excellent solo artist releases have passed, but now for the first
time a sampler called "2+2=5 EP" which reminds me a bit of Electronome's
"4+10=12?" title of his limited and experimental debut release of his own
label Nu-Vorm.

Anyways brand new deep and moody Techno Soul tracks by
Richie Inkle,
Arne Weinberg (u're on the list!),
Ad.Lib (sounds like a venue in Glasgow!)
and for me a total new name...
Sierra Sam (but I guess someone on this list can tell something more about
him)

For you who are riding the next wave of deep Techno Soul... Essential !!!

Yeah Jurren...
I was quit surpised that there are movies which are able to struck me.
And this one definitely did back then!
For those who haven't... in short it's a movie located in the ghetto of
Paris.
An environment where there is racism between French and other
nationalities...

The movie follows the life within a few days of three friends all from a
different background.

Some excellent shots and excellent music...

But the producer or whatever has done more movies and even a lot more
shocking than La Haine.

Jurren, nice one for putting this out!

Re: (313) Before Techno

2003-12-17 Thread Dr. Nutcracker
For me all Conny Plank was involved with is the stuff I want...
Conny Plank used to be a carpenter, way before he started his own studio.
An inventive producer and engineer with a touch of his own...
Working in the 40's for Marlene Dietrich but it was until he started working
for
Kraftwerk he really got into what you all are calling 'before Techno'.
Being involved with Can, DAF, Devo, Grobschnitt, Guru Guru, Killing Joke,
Kraan, Neu!, Ultravox, etc. and later got into the studio with Moebius and
Brian Eno producing something I would call 'before Techno' in the late 70's
early 80's like the most obvious one "Begegnungen".
Most memorable recording I've ever heard was a tape recording of a jam
session in the
studio with Ultravox... distracts me immediatly when it is playing...
A shame he is never mentioned... especially while this 80's revival is
ruling the 'scene'.

He was always def. in my recordbox when I used to do my radioshow...

It's slightly lame, but of course those records do the trick. Not to be

Again a lot of test tracks and a few finished. Simular to the Tresor
releases a lot of low frequencies, thought the mastering on this album is a
lot better then I'm used to of releases out on the Clone label... For me
there are just two tracks, others are nice experiments.

Well my experiences with Allan & Heith are pretty tough...
I've been resident DJ at Panama, Amsterdam (where the cosmic twins... May &

The mixer went out of phase the minute I started twisting my EQ's!
Maybe it was wrecked though it was brand new.
Never ever experienced this before on another mixer... though A&H is a real
solid and professional brand imo.
Although you're right about those Pioneer mixers, I always hope that a venue
has at least a Pioneer mixer...

Ultramarine remixed by Carl Craig including that highly sought after remix
released in the early nineties, but impossible to get, plus two more and
another track remixed all never ever released before. Yeeeh!
Imo the darker days ahead will be much easier for me, with these two

Hi guys!

Sorry to go a little off track here... I just noticed this at Undercity...
Since we're speaking about Theo Parrish and funky stuff, this is certainly a
magnificent release to watch out for!
I know it sounds really strange if I say "Battle of the year 2003", but this
an incredible compilation of Funk and breakdance edits. It's def. not
Freeland style... yaaaghhh... with all respect. It's deadly serious sh_t and
if I may say so it goes nicely into a mix of Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Futher
Details... ooo and that new Iken of course!!!

"Battle of the year" CD and 2x12 inch on Dominance Electricty. The page is
not up to date, because I've already received a promotional copy stating it
is already available at the Courthouse recordstore. Oooohh and of course
they show a lot more quality stuff on there too... : )

Btw Where can I get this release with those magnificent remixes? I wanna
know too!

TRUE! Larry Heard... breaks my heart, when I think about the conversation we
had on his illegal album being re-released last year. Being robbed twice.
Mastermind... brings back the subject on Dub again... tapedelays. Wow!

But whatabout Hiphop then? Mantronix for example...

Can't agree with you more Marc!

It's def. not about categorical definitions at all... though I need to.
because of my reviews.

Imo most of these 'styles' are just simular, because of choice of
technology... But at the end it's all about the soul within.
I also like to neglect my personal emotional connections towards a record
and totally neglect the year it has been released, so I can creat a mix as
objective as possible... and that really works!
This way I never have to fear a night of only one certain categorie...
For example I used to be resident DJ at Panama, Amsterdam, in their first
year of it's excistance.
Because I totally disregard any categories I am able to mix Soul, Funk,
Hiphop, House and even some deep Techno!
The manager of this venue returned me a load of respect while I wasn't
allowed to play any House records... but at the end of every night the
people seriously went home with tears in their eyes. The manager was even
crazy enough to not book Roy Ayers for their opening showThough now Francois
K. & Derrick May are playing there next weekend and simular DJ's too. And
you already guessed it they don't want too Jazzy records.

Btw Lester I was just wondering in general, not any specific records. Nobody
beats Cosmic car... ; )

And that's exactly what these heads were doing in the beginning on their
labels...
simular equipment as in Chicago House and with influeces from a dozen
european bands.
So can we conclude then...
that in early stages a lot of so called 'Detroit Techno' classics are at
least very simular to Chicago House?
I also remember a story wherein these heads were driving up to Chicago every
weekend to check out those 'Disco' parties with DJ's like Ron Hardy.
Of course we cannot neglect the fact that Detroit city was in resessions
those days...

Headspace [way the go Tom!] and one on Technoir.
If I could pick them out for a review somewhere I would've done them both
!!!

The magnificent talent of Rei Loci [Iridite prod] also surfaces on
Headspace... and how!
Funky 101 with a truckload of Soul and rhythms.

Well I'm not really being objective here...
But these are some stunning promotional copies I've just been checking for
radio Audio Nongrata.

V/a - Electron Music EP (Iridite)
* Another marvelous deep Detroit inspired EP with Marco Bernardi, Rei Loci,
Methodology and Tha Poke.

Metro-Police - Transit cop (Plant)
* Vocalist for Electronome turns up with a brilliant minimal Electro
soulfunk six tracker themesongs.

Iken - Image of a drawn sword (Real Soon)
* Another bomb releases following up this label's debut release Futher
Details, which is on a simular frequency of producers alike Moodymann, Theo
Parrish and Larry Heard!

Ultramarine - Carl Craig remixes (Real Soon)
* Don't we all love this legendary remix by Carl Craig?! Includes two
previously unreleased remixes, surfaced from the archives...

The Andies vs Izu - Split EP (Stuff)
* Already enough said on the "Stuff #1 EP", here's the next... Imo a
brilliant 15 minute lasting deep, deep Electro track by The Andies, never
chancing it's original theme, but chancing styles... stunning!

I'm sure these releases will receive heavy rotation online by me!

Try one of the oldest possessed building of Holland this friday & saturday,

enough no 072 resident DJ's, like it really used to be back in the days...
Also Diego at Doornroosje on saturday located in Nijmegen and there is the
annual Mysterland rave on saturday in Harlem with Alexander Kowalski, Joris

2003-08-14 Thread Dr. Nutcracker
I dunno if anybody already post these on the list [Stewart, Jason, Sub?] but
these 313 related releases are on the Undercity Distributions list...

code:PT-3004
i.d.:METRO-POLICE
title:TRANSIT COP
format:12 INCH
status:EARLY SEPTEMBER
additional: Brilliant melodic Electro debut release by new talent from
the 072 area, following up the previous hot tribute remix 12 inch [PT-3003]
feat. Electronome, Keith Tucker and F. Couvée. Magnificent sleeve design by
Noel.

This is the guy who did vocals for Electronome's D-I-E remix "Playmobile
invisible" [both helped out by Koert Notario]. Almost everybody's favourite
Electronome track with his reference to his roots like Kraftwerk, Liaisons
Dangereuses, Telex, etc.

code:DS-06
i.d.:SPLINTERFACTION
title:ULTRAISM 2 EP
format:12 INCH
status:LATE SEPTEMBER
additional:Following up the highly sought after original release
[ds-02], which already included a marvelous remake by dutch delight Duplex.
This 12 inch includes stunning new deep & funky Techno Soul remixes by
masters within it's genre: Dan Curtin, Fabrice Lig and $tinkworx!

Fabrice... $tinkworx... you both can 'put that in your back pocket' as the
dutchies would say!

Btw There is much, much more on the Undercity-072 website, since U.D.
officially launched their website. Digital Soul t-shirt, Iridite, Plant
t-shirt, Real Soon, Stuff, Amici Curiae, etc. I wish I had a new job writing
reviews again... : )
