sense. We can not protect the value of music
without re-establishing what this value is by
  destroying it.

Several things are happening for me, while
  discovering net-labels, and creative commons.

I am finding excellent music that makes me question
the value of the music I pay for. In a dual process
I am overwhelmed by content and desire a external
filter that will condition my access to the music.

  The consumer receives the value.

The artist must create the value.

The 'company' lose their dictation of value.

I do not suggest that this is an easy process, however
  it is necessary for progression.

A strong symbol of this working is Vladislay Delay.

On their website, they release some MP3 for free, they
also promote material for sale, and they have provided
a series of samples which they encourage you to steal!

this is a bit of a fallacy. just because they would do
it for free, it doesn't follow that they SHOULD do it
for free. this is true regardless of the value of the
 product

Artists must remain free to control their own output.

We are involved in the action of globalization.

We can acknowledge the process and define its path.

This is the evolution of value'

How is the artist not a martyr?

reacting against the value given a product because
the artist would like to make a living, assumes that
there is an actual value in the product, otherwise why
react to it ? (and if value is defined by the
consumer, then it must have value to begin with in
order for therre to be a denial of value) furthermore
the cultural conditions of society (broadly speaking)
have forced the perception that art is somehow
cheapened when there is money involved, your stance
seems to feed right into the established norm, but
does it under the (no doubt well intentioned) idea of
being a martyr for art, which is a total bullshit idea
(although sometimes necessary step in evolution of
authenticity)

I vote for Fabrice Lig.

That or on a slightly less techno front...Underworld.

Yea ' very much up for Underworld.

My brother used to be their Video Tech, so I've had an
inside look at a lot of their production. Pretty cool
show, and very much like their tunes.

  What does Fabrice Lig run

I realize most people make excellent music, but the stage
factor is rather important in this instance ..

Someone who is prepared to bring some production elements '

  Visual ' performance / presence

What is the verdict on Ritchies Hawtin .. the reports from

I wasn't sure if people expected more ' or didn't realize

ta ' indeed . heck he's almost a local in fact

I would expect that he will make it to the billing as per.

We are looking really for some distinct internationals, the
program is over 48 hours, so we are seeking to feature several
  headline performances.

Artists like Recloose would certainly draw the stage, but I'm
looking for the jaw dropper ' performance .

  Does it exist ?!

The whole Festival is not Techno, so the Act can stand alone
in its sonic capacity. However it would be nice to find an Act
that can define the scale of the moment.

We are trying to stay away from Dj performances ' and present
stage performances. I realize Techno is not rock n roll ..

However acts like Underworld, and the Chems were able to match
their performance next to biggest bands in the world by using
simple and effective video and lighting production.

Further to this Rabbit in the Moon developed a '12 act full
costume stage show that peels your cap of in the right mood.

The concept of the Orb appearing live through ISDN is fairly
cool ' as well. In this dimension you are starting to create
a reality that extends conventional performance into another
  level of experience.

  /

In NZ acts like Pitch Black are producing, fully sound vision
integrated performances, that they present in small clubs.

They can translate this to a large crowd and integrate midi
triggering for lighting cues as well.

This progression in production control is the level of act
that we wish to present. Strip the production away, and we
are looking for pure presence, the star quality of performance.

Other NZ bands like Fat Freddy's Drop, Shapeshifter, Salmonella Dub
are all producing a stage show that incorporates specific vision,
lighting and sound concepts beyond standard rock n roll.

While this may not be important to all artists it is an integral
part of what we intend to present at the Festival.

Where is the KLF when you need them?

 I love Ritchie .

despite my bad naming .. his music . his intention

is so bold and clear '

what you say about SONAR is the most exciting news I have heard to date.

 /

here in NZ . we have danced to the sound of a plastic fusion, on mud
ankle deep . the sound set seeping across the reality of unique

 \

We are trying too dig deep. To uncover and reveal the potential of
the human form. Technology is absolute ' when you realize that your
imagination is the limitation of possibility ..

Last time Ritchie played in NZ, we did the sound system and my boss who
owned the equipment brought his hairdresser, because he knew this was
the most dynamic experience that he could ever expose her too.

 .

Don't underestimate the understanding we have, hungry and young we are
 demanding for in our acceptance.

Confused? Stand closer to the wind and listen to your heart.

Mutek was a HUGE undertaking which may have gotten a little beyond the
capabilities of technology at the time. I know that the show has been
restructured to be more technologically adaptable. Rich will be opening
the SONAR festival in a couple months playing live with the Barcelona
Symphony Orchestra, if you have time before you have to make your
decision then maybe wait to hear about that?

Otherwise you could just contact him and see where his head is at about

(313) Live Techno ?

2005-04-02 Thread I'm not a dj

 Hey all '

I am part of a development team for a
Festival in New Zealand, Easter, 2006

I have been asked to find a live Techno
  performance, for the Festival.

  .

I have been racking my brain as to who is
actually doing an interesting Live stage
  performance '

Also someone was talking about the Orb or
FSOL . who will do a performance over ISDN?

  Any suggestions, would be appreciated.

  Mail me off list '

Alternatively it would be great to hear of
peoples favourite / least favourite live act.

  ..

I was recently reminded of when the Advent
played in NZ live. We did the sound for them
in this large warehouse in Wellington.

As the PA company we thought they were terrible
because the overdrove every channel to the max.

So it was all distorted mash. The people loved
it though . and it really was the last great
Live Techno performance in NZ really. (1998)

That was a great year, cause Der Dritte Raum
played Live as well. They were stunning, but
the PA for them was really bad, alot of their
work was lost to bad acoustics.

Oh' and I saw Rabbit in the Moon !! a touch more
trance, but it was in a Forest with 160k of
unreal sound for a crowd of about 1000 peeps.

No one will believe me if I told you the truth
about that party, but the Rabbit was cool '
