Baroque was a 'trend' once... For culture to evolve, you have
cycles, and
trends, then if it endures it maybe becomes a classic, as techno, or
maybe a
bad memory (like most 70s architecture!) and that too can change
with the

values of each generation...

It's always been this way. Some people are moved by novelty far longer
than others and can stand to hear new and interesting noises without
caring if there was an ounce of emotion in it (moroder step bass
anyone?). I have been guilty of this when listening to a new (insert
anything sonic here). But at a point (unless you're that one track)
you

will change your tastes. And the one constant that I find most people
wanting from their music regardless of genre is feeling. Whether it's
country or techno, people want to relate their experience to something
that comes from another angle. It's the same thing that Armando (I
think) was saying back in the day about the acid house explosion in
England. Something like, it's cool, but they heard the stuff we
did and
it's like they took the bleeps and carried on the tweaks, but they
left

the message. That was really what the music was about though, the
message. But now all you hear are the blips and bleeps and there's no
message to it, no feeling. Or something like that. (come to think of
it, maybe that was larry too, can't remember). I think he's right on.
But that's my opinion. I'll try to find that interview. Gonna be hard
when I don't remember who I'm looking for. Think I smoked that memory
just this morning too. Dangit.

I agree. I'm just taking the p.iss is all.
I love a bit of northern in fact my ipod contains both types of music .
Northern and techno.
You're right about the similarities though. The worrying one is the
unwillingness to accept change, which has really been the death knell
for northern. No new people coming onto the scene, not allowing modern
or deep soul tracks to be played at nighters etc.

On the flip though, you can take things too far.
I don;t agree with letting little kids join in on the fun like this one.

http://www.okehsoulclub.myby.co.uk/snapper/images/bcsc/pages/bcscjuly22_jpg.htm

That's just wrong. It reminds me of growing up in southend in the 70's,
I'd see all these sad old Teds with their replica Ted kids. Weird

Looking at those pictures, I can think of worse things that ending up
like that. We're all going to get old if we live long enough, and a
fair number of us will put on weight etc, but that's going to happen
whether we're still into music or not, so obviously I'd prefer the

  Dear members,

I would like to compile myself a set of tracks (ie. a so-called playlist)
of tracks for falling asleep in the evening. As tracks with a strong
(means almost any) beat are not properly working for that, I am looking
out for chilly tracks. Hypnotic non pumpin music to find a light
definition. Any recommendations ? Preferably something that I can still
buy today. CD or DRM free compressed music format would be very nice,
records makes things for me just more complicated but I would go for that
if the tracks are worth it.

It's available through Netflix for anyone in the US. I think it's worth
owning. The interviews are good but it does leave you wanting more - which
I think is a good thing really.

Was Richard X in Add N to X? I remember getting through the door,
soaking wet at the UR gainsborough studios knees up, and that
whitny/werk thing being the first thing I heard. Class.

Robert Taylor wrote:

Yep - wouldn't miss it for the world even though it's in a w*nky bar.
Some cat called Richard X is also playing - I think he's a cheesy pop producer who's
worked with P Diddy but he made his rep as a mashup bootlegger - but his first
release was a 7 of Whitney's I Wanna Dance With Somebody over the top of
Numbers and No Scrubs over the top of Being Boiled which was class, but I've no idea
what he'll play tonight. Anyone else heard him?

movie interview with Ron Murphy for $5!!! All of them great.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Looking at the Submerge site there seems to be quite a crop of CDs that have passed me by. Sometimes it is nice to have a CD collection because you can put it on and not have to bother with getting up and changing sides every 15 minutes or so.

Born South east UK
Into techno since Street sounds electro vol 1(13th birthday present)
but had been listening to my brothers
kraftwerk, tangerine dream and Klaus schultz for years before. Brother
number 2 was into hip hop and electro so I had a classic education.

Best live UR/kraftwerk/Husker Du.

and had too have teeth removed afterwards. Also Venus in Nottingham.
Best ever. UR at Gainsborough studios London. Apocalyptic or what.

Got in to Detroit via MC5 and then techno and my wifes love of northern

transmissions vol 3 brought them all together.

Reading The Purple Gang : Detroit prohibition gangs.

Best record UR Final Frontier.

there constantly tend to be some tiny bit or two, ruining the whole
listening/groovin' experience.. like this superannoying bassline on

not that much, apart from weird rhythmics generated.. which are
totally out of key imho. experimental? electrotrash influence?:D

now, i want an edit. ofcourse i only niggle like this when i actually
damn love the track. if it didn't hit so close, i'd most likely find
that jerky bassline amusing.

anyway, Maetrik rocks. great flow, tight beats, polished sound and

Yes something has definetly happened :) Maybe it's the spring/summer sun

luring moody underground techno heads out of their lairs ...

Kompakt: I've bought many records, Speicher 10, speicher 28, both rex
the dogs on kompakt extra, both orbs (gonna buy the third one aswell)
and many others.

New records: Nothing special, dj t's new 12 which was nice
techhouse, couple of mathew jonhson records waiting in the post
office. Oh and that

new dj Gregory's Head talking is also waiting for me at the Oulu
post office. Realy looking forward to that.

Busy weekend coming up, gonna play one club gig, one
reclaim-the-street gig and one techno party gig :) Can't remember
