[313] RE: (313) Reese Project Direct Me
I have the CD edition of that Warner/Giant release. It's been a long time since I played that. I recall there being a deep kind of Reese version of Direct me, very minimal that builds along the way. Really good! Don't know whether that's on either Edition 1 or 2. I'll look up the CD and post the complete track listing this weekend. Speaking of the Reese Project album, that one really changed my life when that one came out. I bought a lot of the remixes as well, one of the standouts was that BUMP mix of So Deep That one is sooo intense! Anyone know who Bump are? Is this remix representative for the rest of their work? Reminds me of a Classical Music story: Beethoven was once confronted by a violinist who complained that Beethoven's Violin Concerto was too difficult to perform. The annoyed Beethoven replied something like: Do you really believe that I think about your silly fingers when I write music? The technical level required to play the concerto in now pretty standard for anyone worthy of the title virtuoso. mediadrome - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] robin... -- Dr. Robin Pinning | E: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Manchester Computing, University of Manchester, | T: +44 161 275 7028 Manchester, M13 9PL, United Kingdom.| F: +44 161 275 6040 --www.mrccs.man.ac.uk- - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - ATTENTION: The information in this electronic mail message is private and confidential, and only intended for the addressee. [313] 16 / 32 beats (was: RE: (313) Fade In Techno)
Well, I could take this to another level by saying that all records that I play out are records that are produced in a strict 16 or 32 beat counter (I don't know if this is clearly explained to everyone, I mean records in which nothing new pops up until the end of the 16 or 32 counts). Really DJ friendly stuff, and NOT necesarrily boring. Most of the Drexciya shit does not fit in my set, so I only play it at home. Mills has a few excellent hard tracks (especially those early Axis records) that really would become instant classics and favorite DJ tools if they would just start from 1 and not with a fade in... Right, let's have a blast of this here new Drexciya album... TOM afraid the info i have is limited. the duo behind hot lizard were responsible for the british label pacific, which is now, unfortunately, defunct. artists such as ian o'brien, sunrise society, charles webster and sterac recorded for the label. melodic, deep techno was their bag, but i suppose people would now call it 'tech-house' (in fact, 'the theme' - the original version - is now considered a tech-house classic). 'the theme' double pack has remixes by carl craig (which he put on his dj kicks cd), charles webster and mark broom. the original, imo, ain't up to much, but craig's mix is amazing (all 11 minutes of it). wally's grooveworld in belgium had copies of it (think they still do). hope that helps. Wasn't Ian Levine a big time DJ back in the Northern Soul days? I believe his second career was the invention of HI-NRG? (was Re: [313] song id) megatone was label that released a lot of sylvesters work, patrick cowley may well have been behind it (so to speak ;) the record you have there sounds very hi-nrg especially if ian levine is involved - he was a big uk northern soul dj that swtiched on to disco in the late 70's and then onto to what he termed 'hi-nrg' in the early 80's (basically a fast and cheesy synth-oriented version of disco).. -j -- www.suenomartino.net - Original Message - From: Eli Bingham [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Saturday, November 03, 2001 5:49 AM Subject: [313] speaking of sylvester... (was Re: [313] song id) ...i wonder if anyone could comment or shed some light on an old 12 that i found the other day. i sometimes make a habit of trolling the used soul and rock vinyl bins in out the way record stores - you'd be amazed what you can find sometimes. in this case i was in the rasputin's in beautiful downtown pleasant hill, california. along with some $1 morris day and the time twelves (ahem), i found an old sylvester record. its a double a side 12 on megatone records, apparently based in the castro in san francisco. its dated 1985. one side is take me to heaven, the other side is called sex. now, its definitely inna '80s eurodisco stylee - cheap unsequenced drum machine programs and live synth playing. the production is by ken kessie and morey goldstein (?) with remix by ian levine (???). really really long tracks with typical campy sylvester vocals, but tons of great '80s synth basslines and over-the-top linndrum drumrolls to sample. the funny part is that take me to heaven is ludicrously fast for a disco record. i played it with house and it came in at -8, so i'm guessing its close to 140bpm (but with sylvester being the way he is, at -8 he sounds just fine). anyway, anyone know what the deal with this record is? who are these people? who the heck is megatone records? i've seen one other record on megatone and it was a patrick cowley production, something i-f would drop. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - ATTENTION: The information in this electronic mail message is private and confidential, and only intended for the addressee.
