Re: new subscribers

2018-10-27 Thread mislav bobic
Greetings to all, my name is Mislav Bobić. I’ve been (actively) lurking here
since mid 90’s. I am thankful to everyone who was and stll is here for shaping
my music taste and helping me undertand whole detroit techno story.

In terms of my active involvement with music, I co-run Burek label and I do A
for its sub-label Barba focusing on predomanently techno and electro stuff.
Been to demf in 2007 and hoping to be back sometime soon.

Hope to see this list's activity soaring again as is the case these days.

And finally, wishing all new subscribers big welcome, hoping you’ll have fun
and manage to find out whatever you’re looking for.

RE: (313) Other things I haven't really seen mentioned:

2005-07-08 Thread mislav bobic
Yo Jason, you mentioned DJ Bone. Not much mentioned here is DJ Lhoe's
thing (Subject Detroit 006) which I like very much. Raw, hard and
unmistakebly detroit sounding record. anything else around by this
newcomer ?

Saw it mentioned here but won't hurt to say again that last 2 Frantic
Flowers records are really nice.

DJ Gregory's one on Deeply Rooted is quite interesting one, but there is
also 2nd release on this label if I remember correctly - 'LB Bad' or
somethin' which is very cool classic acid house

Not really new but haven't seen mentioned are two releases by Jon Slocum
on Mout Label.

Electro ? TRUST from Austria is getting stronger and stronger in my
opinion. Anybody checked this last Southern Outpost one ?? Would like to
hear comments on that one. EDO8 on Marguerita has one nice cut...seems
from comments here that those Stalingrad comps are worth checking.

Disco ? Huge thanks for those recently posted links of Theo's set!

Polished production ? Nothing against Detroit Escalator or Monolake for
example while loving fxhe records

Jonas Berring's Emballages EP on Kompakt is a nice variation on
Deepchord
sort of stuff; also worth picking up in that vein are releases on Force
Tracks and a fair few on Gadgets as well.

An EP that came out a couple of months ago that's worth chasing down is
Paul
St Hilaire (aka Tikiman) ft Rene Lowe (aka Scion). It's called the
Faith EP
and is out on False Tuned records, and if you like the sounds on
Deepchord
releases and haven't heard this one you should definitely try to track
it
down.

Then again, you probably know all this stuff already :)

If you catch him on the right night he'll blow you away with his mixing.
I've experienced myself at both Lost Sonar.

can someone plesaase claify what new DBX your talking about (since
some of
us don't go to the record shop 3 times a week)

If you're talking about Squirrelbait- which to my knowledge is the
most
recent DBX release- than it needs to be heard on a big system to be
understood. I didn';t like it on the villallobos mix cd, but was
rocked
when john tejada played it live.

and if there's another newer DBx- it'd be nice to know the name of it.

 thanks

Rare Mills stuff;

Servo Unique - Servo Unique - Luxury Records.

Luxury was a house label he set up that only lasted one release. This was a
classic at the time.

It's £30/£40-ish these days if you can find it. Vinyl Exchange would sell
it for 50.

Otherwise, there's not that much rare Mills stuff, it all gets repressed
pretty regular, so your mate might find that getting 10 will be difficult.
Maybe the Every Dog Has its Day releases? (they were ltd apparently)

Two 'experiment' releases are already out on ropeadope:

so if the LP is not something completely else this might give you some

it seems many of you were confused by my Swayzak Electroclash remark
yesterday. I was refferring to the Swayzak Dirty Dancing album on K7. I
dont know much about Swayzak, but I'd heard nothing but praise for them
for
the longest time. Imagine my excitement when one day a bunch of new
Swayzak
records showed up in my mailbox. I couldnt wait to finally hear what all
of
the hoopla was about regarding these guys. I put the records on, and track
after track, nothing but Joy Division sounding stuff. I'm not trying to
put
them down or anything, they do have the 80's low-fi production thing down
perfectly, but it's not really my cup of tea. I think I'll just have to
wait
this trend out too. I see a lot of Punk Rock fashions everywhere these
days and, like electroclash, it rings very hollow, it just sorta feels
like
kids playing dressup. What they dont realize is that without the grit and
angst punk rock is just satire.

sean lived the 80's, no need to recreate them deason

Alice Cooper or Wayne Kramer dig techno, do we?

He says it's his personal taste - not that he's 'anti-techno' just that
he
 never got into it.

So why the perceivably universal diss that nobody listens to techno?
That
to me sounds like he's stating something beyond his personal taste.

Just playing the devil's advocate - I think it's a funny line and a hot
 tune.

Re: [313] Colin Dale

2002-02-14 Thread Mislav Bobic
OK, this is latest info (Nov 2001) from Dale's ;) Abstrakt Dance website:

Lot's of things have been happening on the production front from the
brothers Mark and Colin Dale.

First Mark Dale has a 12 under the guise of Dark Male (get it?). The e.p
is called Nightlife and features a remix from Asad Rizvi and it release #2
from Groovetech records London. Distribution is via Pinnicle.

Also new from Mark Dale is Burn on London's Eukahouse records.Distribution
is thru Intergroove.

Colin Dale has also been very very busy on the production front..Promo's
are already on the streets for a killer 12 from Colin Dale and Alien Funk
dude Gareth Oxby. Out soon on Visitors the Tech-House sister of Music Man
(Belgium) Gareth and Colin hit back with a monster called Strange things
happening using the moniker Primary Seqence...The single was recorded
on Sept 11th 2001 and some of you may remember that Colin and Gareth used to
be called Civil AttackThe single will be distributed by news
in Belgium.

Also early in 2002 also see's a 12 on Advance Records and also the
completion of the long awaited LP of 12 exclusive and unreleased tracks from
Kleeer. The Kleeer project has been a year in the making and features the
neucleus of Colin and Haris C...initial reports from those lucky enough
to hear tracks has been very very favourable.Release date Spring / Summer
2002.

Also Abstrakt Dance now has a once monthly residency at the number 1 club in
the whole of France.it is of course the Rex Club in Paris. Abstrakt
Dance is the second Wednesday of ever month and as well as Colin as resident
each and every month will also feature a guest each month. Future guests
include Stacy Pullen , Derek May , Mark Shade and Mark Dale. E-mail
[EMAIL PROTECTED] for more info and concessions.

Don't forget that Colin is also resident at The Cross in London's Kings
Cross the last Friday of every month for Obsessive and also at Herbal in
London's cool and trendy Shoreditch the last Thursday of every month.

Hope this helps.

Did anyone else used to listen to his show?

It was killer, I stll have a tape of the 'Abstrakt Dance '90'

When I think back, these were definately one of the first techno
experiences I had.

Oh, happy days, I remember him dropping UR no.1 and mashing the
   'Beginning'
into 'Infoworld'
At that time it still sounded like a pirate show, he'd do
 shouts over
  all
those old wicked tracks, 'Big shout out to Julie who's watching

 advanced.
