Welcome back Patrick!

This is a pretty low traffic list these days compared to a few years ago.

You've returned as, imo, Detroit techno, along with genuine deep house, is back
on the up. Younger producers like Kyle Hall coming through along with lots of
stuff from people like Tevo Howard, Reggie Dokes, Chez Damier etc. MCDE and Wax
are notable german producers that are doing it for me. The dutch are still as
strong as ever too. The latest MOS (RAG, with Aroy Dee mixes) is somat I'm
excited about.

I've not followed the more electro end of things for a while (which is probs
more to your taste) but some the above has some linkage with dubstep (Martyn,
Actress, Kyle again), which in turn has a link to electro imo. Interesting
watching how things mutate.

As for that Model 500? Not sure I rate that 12 tbh. I think Juan might be
saving the really firing stuff for Metroplex?

The Third Ear release that's coming up has a track that works for me (Ghosten).

The Aidy's Girls a Computer and the Dr. Girlfriend track are other good'uns.

Kyle Hall has a strange style that sometimes works, sometimes doesn't for me.

Re: (313) new records

2003-09-04 Thread robin pinning

hmm new to me records:

Jeff Mills - the divine ep - purposemaker

jeff in the mode i like best, techno but not abrasive. changes of life
(reprise) hints at the original but never gets there but instead plows a
solid 313 tech furrowreach is good on here too (in two flavorsthe
instrumental builds and has less of the bass), sounding a bit moodymann in
a funny kinda way...(off key pianos sitting nicely in the mix)

EPOD - the persuit - cocomachete

best mix of the track is the coco dubhouse with an organic feel with
some male spoken vocal in itthis just plain rocks. as does the other
ep i've got from cocomachetemust track down more of their output as
they arehitting the spot for mealways seem to have a brennan green mix
on these things but i never normally dig that feel.

raheem hershel - gotta have the pokey - creme

chicago jacking business in a trax waycombined with the normal sounds
you get off the more elctro-disco stuff u normally see on this label. not
a classic release as you could build this stuff on trax samples, but solid
nontheless.

shake - convalescence - frictional

wicked 12 with nice hip-hop instrumental from shake on one side. the
killer cut on this is the soundhack mix on the other side of "like a
dream", medium paced techno of the highest order with some of the
choppiness you'd expect from soundhack but not over the top, begging for
doubles!

that's about it for now

i'm not sure on the new LFO style some may like it tho i guess but it
doesn't seem to have the depth that i'd have liked it to.

the same went for the Guy called Gerald liveset that was on, this was in
the smaller room and the pa was even worse in there with no room to dance

overall the whole event tho billed as acid house was far from it, imo

a wasted opportunity really...

it's a shame a lot of his stuff is so hard to get hold of.

i hear he's got a load of stuff due out soon (well some of it should be
out already...i guess it's delayed), including a mix cd or two.

can't wait!

i think the interludes are probably on the vinyl lp so up to here is the
same as the vinyl...

so these two untitleds are on one of the kdjs and the salvador de bahia ep
contains other tracks not on the cd/lp

Re: (313) that andres LP

2003-08-14 Thread robin pinning

the two tracks off kdj24 are on there.dunno about the rest

the cd has 16 tracks and the lp 9 tracks. the recent ep has 4 tarcks (2
are diff mixes) and they're menat to be on the cd and not on the lp

that means four tracks missing off the lp+ep compared with the cd

hence the *massive* push from within the computing industry for DRM/tcpa
(digital rights management)this goes right down to the motherboard and
includes all operating system manufacturersonce they have this setup
they can safely distribute digital media and limit what you can do with
it...(see http://www.againsttcpa.com/ for some infos)

you can bet yer azz that these guys aren't watching for *your* rights but
for those of RIAA affiliates...

...but i digress...

try this:

http://www.negativland.com/minidis.html

(and this, http://www.negativland.com/albini.html, is also interesting,
but not really for the same reason)

of course none of this has anything to do with music, that's just the
'product'.

(313) andres lp

2003-08-13 Thread robin pinning

for anyone who's thinking of sleeping on this one, don't.

i was tempted not to bother (based on the clips i'd heard) but when i
heard this ata decent volume at home i'm glad i didn't. it also
works well as an lp (a rare thing!).

shame it's not on two bits of vinyl tho

i know a couple of places have this still in in the uk (try
www.piccadilly.co.uk) but i'd act quick as i'm not sure it's gonna be around
for long

anyone picked up anything interesting recently?

yeah remember "Home taping is killing music" in the 70/80sanother RIAA
