Re: (313) Bloc
I picked up a flier in Detroit in 1999 where the Kooky Scientist was to be performing a Live PA at a party. A week later Fred Giannelli posted here that he would not be performing in Detroit at that time, no matter what had been read locally. I don't remember if he had a falling out with the promoter or if they just used his name, but I do remember that the flier was out more than a month before the party...so i lean toward the latter. Re: (313) Bloc
I'm not privvy to all the ins and outs and what have yous of the various scenes, but I have heard this from enough people that there's no way they're all just making it up. I also had a friend who this happened to, not exactly a parallel to Juan but just letting you know, yes it definitely does happen. Promoters can be sketchy sometimes. Could be miscommunication, genuine delusion, or any other number of honest mistakes... but yeah I'm sure some cases are just maliciousness/looking for a quick buck. Most of the sketchier promoters don't last forever. Eventually people will catch on and stop supporting them. RE: (313) Bloc: Atkins & Interstellar Fugutives
When I saw UR in Brighton, (south England) doing a similar show they played Numbers but Skurge mixed it in and Mike played some extra keys over the top and this could explain why Frequency 7 sounded very similar to the original. I wouldn't say he's turning up regularly... at least not yet... in the past 6 months I know of 3 he's not shown for and 1 of those was here in Detroit for a night Minx was throwing... it was a shame really, no show no call even... I felt bad for Minx... she was pretty embarrassed... I'm glad to hear he's shown up to some of his more recent gigs though. Also happy to hear he's looking healthier. Last I heard he was having a hard time with Diabetes. It was second hand information though, so it may be wrong. Had a brilliant time. Really enjoyed Legowelt, Convextion, Monolake and the Bleep 43 live sets, although from the moment I booked up I knew it would be much more about having a stupid weekend with friends than the music, despite the wicked line-up. But that's what I wanted and that's what I got. Robert Henke was so animated behind his Monodeck II I couldn't believe it. Properly jacking himself about back there. Also, having him in the middle of that massive floor was a nice touch. Convextion played a few new tracks that sounded really tasty, including a new Basic Channely thing that was ridiculous. His whole set was dope though. All the jams. I seem to be in the very slim minority of those who enjoyed Bartos. That vocoder dude with the long hair was simultaneously priceless and impossible to watch. I actually obscured him from view for part of the set. Oh, and to refute Greg's claim about surreality involving Juan Atkins at European music festivals, I can relay one anecdote. I was walking between stages with some friends when Juan Atkins was about to go on and someone asked if we should check him out, to which I replied, "yeah right, like Juan Atkins is going to show up", only to turn around and see him walking directly behind me. Nice. It's also worth noting how brilliantly this festival is run. Totally professional work. Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]
