I am pretty sure the Serious Grooves repress is legit. SG 001 was repressed
last year as well and I know CY said it was legit. I assume the Classics
repress is too.

On a side note, it looks like Mojuba just put out another version of Forever
Mix 2/Forever Monna:
http://www.juno.co.uk/products/chez-damier-classics/511059-01/

They are calling it the 'Oracy extended Factory Mornings edit.'

Not sure, but John Selway is playing here in Glasgow in a couple of
weeks so I'll ask him then - these "remixes" all seem to be done
without any access to the individual parts that make up the tracks, ie
Kevin has just given the remixers a stereo mix to work with - there is
a limited amount you can do in a situation like this (changes in
structure, looping small elements of the track for ages, filtering it
up and down, adding "spacey" effects etc) but certainly none of the
mixes have added anything to the raw energy of the original tracks.

Does anyone have a current, functioning phone number for KMS Productions? If so
please let me know off-list. The phone number listed with their address in
directory assistance and at 411.com, 313-879-3000, has been giving a busy

either off the hook or no longer up to date.

Haven't heard his mix cd on monoid, but I've heard him live once, and it
was trainwreck after trainwreck. Maybe he was trying to hard to do some
quick mixing and managed to properly beat match only about 10% of the
records. But that was some 2 years ago, so maybe he's better now.

Samuel is very purpose-maker influenced indeed..
but he made some good tracks and therefore should get some respect..
try cycle 09 or cycle 010 (remixes part 1)

you also could like the sls01 album.

And his mix cd might be mixed very well.. but I have seen him once, and he

and mixing is the studio is much more comfortable then mixing in a big hall.

2002-02-21 Thread Cyclone Wehner

Carl Cox didn't show because of sickness and Derrick came on and played what
he says was the best party since his old MI days in the back. He did the
lights and blacked out the room and played this remix of The Climax with the
poetry - off the hook. Herdest played real nice in the front, as did Gene,
and Kevin played briefly. Derrick's set definitely made up for the rained
out festival, it was very special.

I guess. But that lineup isn't right...I arrived around 2am and D-wynn

last. Not sure about the lineup in the front as I was enthralled in the

Coxy wasn't around. Wasn't he supposed to be "sick?" Jim Masters came

The Works was serving a mean "cranberry juice with extra ice" until

Thought I'd pass along that Kevin will be in town this Sat night at
Centro-Fly for anyone in town. Pending I can get past the orange jumpsuited
apes at the door, I'll be there.

Also of note but not directly 313, On Sat Feb 2nd Alex Paterson will be at
the Knitting Factory. I assume this will be a DJ set but the night also
features Elliot Sharp's Terraplane and James Blood Ulmer's Organ Trio for a
healthy dose of diversity.

Re: [313] KMS/Network

2001-11-26 Thread stewart
Network was run by ex Northen Soul DJ Neil Rushton who also ran Kool Kat and
was largley responsible for bringing Detroit techno to the UK. He was heavily
involved with Dereck, Kevin and Juan right back in the day and licensed a lot
of the old Transmat/KMS/Metroplex catalogue as well as releasing the UR
compilation album. I remember Network put out loads of great stuff like all the
old Nexus 21 tracks and stuff like 'Take me away'. It started going pretty
housey before it dissapeared and Kool Kat stopped doing stuff. I also seem to
remember reading about some bad blood that developed between Neil and the
Detroit boys, but I can't remember why.

All,
Does anyone know of a good source of info on KMS? I know of the discography
on techno.org but that is a bit limited. Any recommendations from the back
catalogue? Also, can anyone tell me the connection between KMS and Network
(which seems to have released a lot of KMS in the UK). Anyone got any info
on Network?
Thanks,
Alastair

Re: FW: [313] KMS Info

2001-10-01 Thread Michael Kim

the one that's most prevalent now is the Joey Negro mixes. it's got the
negro mix, the acappella, and some other thing on the b-side that i can't
remember at the moment. i assume the original, if it was ever made, is
probably hard to find by now.

the other version that's readily available is the dub version on the b-side
of the 'stand by me' single, with the green label.

the Negro mix is very clubby, imagine early 90's keyboards. the dub version
is the one that they performed at DEMF this year IIRC.

This is my first post for a while as I am very distressed over the US
incident.

I wondered if anyone can recall the recent Inner City 12" as I can't find
its name anywhere. Also on the AMG bio for Kevin it cites Kevin as being
the

youngest of nine which conflicts with other biog info so if anyone can
indicate the source of this that would be great.

I hear that Slam's Virtuoso (nicest track on Alien Radio, very Detroit
influenced) is being released with mixes by Laurent Garnier and DJ Rolando,
which sounds good to me.

I heard a Dj Pierre record on Stricly Rhythem (wrong spelled)
witch has has the same sound

All I can say is ;?

 that is a reverse sample
second it's a filter over a chord or a bundle of tones like a stab of
trumpets ect. ?
instead of a filter over 1 sound/oscillator

A lot of ppz in the 313 area used this technology
check the 'fear of spiders' remix by kenny larkin on plink plonk.
(if anybody wants to know how he did it ;)
I know I know (sorry sorry mis quote from drexcia)
It can be done with for instance a k2000 sampling it own chords !!

this is tech house like it shout be ( not like theorem ect. )
that is my opinion ;?
but I'm still a copycat

And Kevin is cool for answering the questions on-site

wanna see something really interesting?

mp3.com now has a stats page for each artist listing the number of listens
for each day and the corresponding amount of money that the artist has
made. (mp3.com pays on a per-listen basis) The tracks have been online
since june 8th, getting about 10-20 listens a day. Come june 14th
(wednesday) the link gets posted to 313 and the number of listens jumps to
183!

So one way to think about it is that when scott posted the link, he caused
kms records to earn $17.82! pretty nice, eh?

But... get this... the #1 act on the electronic charts is "303infinity," a
crappy trance act. Their total earnings from mp3.com add up to $51,867.82.
as far as i know, they don't have a single release. is this the future of
music distribution?

There's an mp3 on this page of KMS-070, Casa Cagat by Gary Martin. I hope this
will be available on vinyl soon, because it's the version on the b-side that
got all 4 of us Dutch technotourists shuffling our feet at NSC when it was
mastered there. The break in the b-side mix will send dancefloors into a frenzy.

>And BTW, what´s Kevin been up to lately ? Any projects ? Releases ?

He has been working on a new Inner City album.

This comes from an article I wrote late Decemeber:

A new Inner City album is nearly complete. "The Inner City album is shaping
up fine. I'm close to 10 tracks. I'm trying to get it all finished before I
get to Australia, but I think I'm going to come back and finish a track or
two... It's probably a little different - actually, it's not 'probably',
it's a lot different than people would anticipate. It's gone away from dance
music in a certain capacity. You know, we've changed our styles." Saunderson
reveals that the Y2K incarnation of Inner City sounds more downtempo,
experimental and accommodates both live instruments and electronics. The
finished set should come out next year via PIAS (Play It Again Sam).

The Paris Grey track Smile won't be coming out officially. It's just a test
that Kevin decided to put out for the underground. Earlier he offered the
song to Scott Grooves to record but Scott didn't get back to him about it.

Kevin told me this himself when I asked him recently.

Oh you are right it KMS065 not 063, Kenny's mix is really good.
It is good to see that they did release it on KMS066. and about
the Sean Deasonmix, well lets forget he did that..

uh, back to reality... alongside Kenny's mix, i'm pretty sure 065 has a

KMS 065 - Inner City "Good Life" remixes by kenny Larkin & sean Deason.
this one will never surface, because Kevin Saunderson rejected this one.
There are only a few white labels of this one floating around.

There is a KMS-063 around with remixes of Good Life from Kenny
Larkin and Sean Deason but acoording to submerge it will never
be released. One side got a house version the other side has
electro-ish mix on it. Kevin turned the mixes down because he
didn't liked the EQ or something
