Re: (313) New things.

2008-10-04 Thread Michael Pujos

Some recent things:

Trench - Comatose EP (Subject Detroit).
Really like this one, quite creepy and uncompromising on the sound

http://www.junodownload.com/products/1340905-02.htm

Population One (aka Terrence Dion) - View From The above (Frantic Flowers)
Gritty techno with a unique flavour and strong artistic vision
http://www.junodownload.com/products/1351132-02.htm

Aroy Dee - Summer (MOS)
I'm a big fan of Aroy Dee and he never fails to deliver quality techno
with some depth.
I hope all the MOS catalog will be made available digitally as there
as som many gems on this label.

http://www.junodownload.com/products/1354244-02.htm

Patrice Scott Vs Andy Vaz - Slip EP (Yore)
Not to keen on the Patrice Scott track but love the Andy Vaz one.
Soulful and organic house music!

http://www.whatpeopleplay.com/browse/album/?id=5539

Matt Chester - Ralapse (Sula Muse)
Quality melodic techno from Matt Chester that goes beyond the many
clichés of the genre.

http://www.junodownload.com/products/1333101-02.htm

Rob Beleville - Ancient Purity EP (Sula Muse)
Magnificent quality ambient techno. Encausted is my favorite,
something you'd like to hear at sunset after dancing all night.

http://www.junodownload.com/products/1319498-02.htm

Other less recent albums I picked up digitally:

Move D - Kunststoff (City Centre Office)
Dan Curtin - The Silicon Dawn (Peacefrog)

And a big Eevo lute razia:

Terrace - Interesting times
Terrace - Konnect
Max 404 - Love Mathematics
Florence East Island - Assembled 019/020

What is blowing me away today is Bitone Troupe from Uganda. Not techno
but who can resist African children singing?

http://www.myspace.com/bitonetroupe

It's actually difficult to purchase the CD a guy named Grant Buhr made
-- you have to call or e-mail New High (M)art --
http://www.newhighmart.com/ -- but the proceeds of the sale go to the
Bitone School in Kampala.

I did a digital loop back recording of their cover of Bjork's All Is
Full Of Love, if you want to play it on the radio or something:

http://www.cornwarning.com/xfer/BitoneTroupe-AllIsFullOfLove.mp3

You can also contribute directly to the Bitone school -- see their
site http://www.bitonechildren.org/programs.html

The 2562 album 'Aerial' is fairly insane. One of the better techno
things
I've heard in a while, and I'm told it's dubstep. Following a thread
about
newer dubstep stuff on Disception recently I picked these up too:

TRG/Dub U - Losing Marbles [Hotflush Recordings]
Pangea - Deviant [Hessle Audio UK]
TRG - Feel For You [Subway Holland]
TRG - Missed Calls [Subway Holland]
Kontext - Plumes [Immerse]

Other new [313]-related stuff:

Kenny Larkin - Keys Strings Tambourines [Planet E US] - I like it, but I
think Glob is the only really essential track on it. I'm one of the few
who
likes a fair amount of his recent stuff, so much so that I think the
Narcissist is better than this.

I got three EPs from Kadebostan. All are excellent. Check them out. I
suspect he's French, so not sure why I'm mentioning them as though
they're
[313] related, but it's good stuff. I suppose Freude Am Tamzen is a
[313]
tangent.

I finally caught up with all the Terence Dixon stuff on Yore, End to enD
and
Nice Nasty. There's tracks on all of these that are worth grabbing.
Proper
techno.

The Dedicated JB track from Stereocity on Deep Explorer.

Inverse Cinematics - The Rise Fall (Sam Irl remix) [Pulver Germany]

All the Workshop stuff that I hadn't already picked up.

The Mole's I've Got My A1 and When It Tastes So Good, You Deserve It

Roland Appel's Lost Valley and New Love

Mujaba's Fuelta

Three of the tracks on the latest Secondo album on Soul Jazz

The Asphalt - 8 Mile Road (Juju Jordash mix) [Deep Explorer]

All of the CIMA stuff. Massive Wayne Gardiner catch-up business. That
and
the Wayne Gardiner's Classic Man Nervous Tracks.

Buying stuff digitally is good! I got some other stuff too that ain't
very
[313]-relevant which I'll probably review on my blog before too long.

Environ mailout tells me that the Morgan Geist album's now on iTunes. I
mentioned the c2 mixes a while back.

The Analygous Doom/Jamal Moss 12 is sounding hot.

Kuniyuki - Theo Parrish mixes on Mule also.

Anyone else with any news? Let's talk new music

Some more new 313-related stuff (on this week's Rushhour mailout):

Jose James - Desire Love (Moodymann Mix) (Brownswood) - http://www.rushhour.nl/store_detailed.php?item=47578. KDJ doing his
thing.

Aroy Dee - Summer EP (MOS) -
http://www.rushhour.nl/store_detailed.php?item=46886. Sounds smart. Class as always.

Ican - Pa' Mi Gente (Planet E) - http://www.rushhour.nl/store_detailed.php?item=46338. S'ok. Like the vibe of the C2 Dub, even
though it's kinda C2 by numbers. Whoever mentioned the C2 Remixatron (or whatever they dubbed it) could be onto something. Maybe
we're just spoiled, and he's far too prolific.

Jark Prongo - Spadet EP (A.R.T.Less) - http://www.rushhour.nl/store_detailed.php?item=47617. Another A.R.T.Less re-issue. I'm sure
many of us are familiar with the Spadet track from Kevin Saunderson's X-MIX.

The Black Dog - Detroit vs Sheffield (Soma) - http://www.rushhour.nl/store_detailed.php?item=47500. Two Robert Hood mixes, plus a
Black Dog mix and Forgemasters mix. Like it. Great review at Norman Records which I can't help but borrow a small part of: The
other R. Hood mix is much more minimal, like ambient electronica with a repetitive piano refrain. Like Terry Riley on E? It morphs
into a spiraling, sensuous slightly balearic techno piece with such beautiful subtlety I feel like crying!. Yep, Robert Hood's on
form!

Plus, some forthcoming bits and bobs:

Kenny Larkin - The Chronicles (Rushhour)

Mike Edge - Walking Alone (Patrice Scott Mix) (Sistrum)

Sascha Dive - Deepest America (Moodymann Remix) (Ornaments)

Theo Parrish - Love Triumphant / Spacebumps (Sound Signature)

Theo Parrish - Going Downstairs Parts 1 2 (Sound Signature)

Cheers,

Rob

The sound of the drop hammers are used in the track, thus the name
(you can see the factory here: http://www.dogsquad.co.uk/tbd/?p=308)
but it has nothing to do with Rob, Sean or Winston. I think a lot of

Ahh, right, I'm with you now.

Nice to see the cooling towers again. I'll miss them, in a funny way... it wasn't quite right, driving past last weekend and them
not being there. My better-half couldn't quite work-out where they'd been because there's very little trace of them, except for the
big space they once occupied of course. For those who're interested, there are a couple of short BBC News pieces covering the
demolition of the towers here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7556858.stm and http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7582637.stm.

There's only two places that use them these days, you can still hear
them early on Sunday morning if they are going.

Both factories struggle on but they are not the force they used to be
but the history is still there, from an early age we were taught about
Olaudah Equiano /Steel Workers fight to abolish slavery and the famous
Sheffield Outrages - that place was pretty important.

they'd blown up Meadow Hall (massive shopping mall) instead.

end when things are just about to start get going oh so well.
I just _have_ to buy the 12 too, but now the 7 seems to be a bit waste
of money compared to it, especially regarding the sound quality between
those two formats.

Sunchaser is my favourite on this too, very good Red Planetish melody
which keeps on changing subtly. But The Last Stand sounds like it
could also be an excellent track, if only I could hear it throughout...

Yes yes - really enjoying the CD of this. Also from the nomorewords camp

Is this Dynarec CD available now? I've checked a few sites, but so far all
I can find is 1 x 12.
