Pretty ripping stuff in my opinion. Anyone with a cracked copy of fruity loops can put together a techno loop with a couple of one bar synth loops, but it takes Rob Hood to make it into something compelling. Other (non 313) things I got today -- Pansonic Gravitoni, Autechre Move Of Ten and the bleu pulp blue grey green and pink. "I got to say it was a good day."

Re: [Fwd: Re: (313) Robert Hood - Minimal Nation]
Well, the one thing that I can say is that if you have the Jeff Mills mispress, then you would know. The Jeff Mills disc is at a different speed, then the Hood disk, and the it's like night and day musically.Hood side is softer minimal and bleepy at times and the Mills side is pretty agressive/harsh stuff. If you can't tell which disc is Jeff and which disk is Rob, then you probably should give up the copy to someone who can :) I remember when we got them in my shop out here when it first came out and we all looked at each other after listening and said can this be right and figured It's got to be a mispress. Wish I had actually picked up a copy of the non-mispress as I would like to have the other tracks. If I run across my copy, I'll make some quick mp3's, but not sure how soon that will be... so maybe someone else will beat me to it. RE: (313) Robert Hood In NYC
I stayed for the entire Hood set and was impressed with his tight mixing! Track selection was very cool too, I heard quite a few of his tracks, some from the latest logistic mix cd. This was my first time seeing hood, minus last year at DEMF where he played a couple tracks with Suburban Night before the cops busted the party. Very impressive overall. Todd's live PA was dope as always, that boy needs to play out more! Towards the end he was about to play another live track (encore, encore ) but his computer was acting up. I thought Kimyon should have come on after hood, Todd's set would have gone into Hoods much better. Kimyon is the one who organized the party and has had Hood in nyc a few times before. -Original Message- From: Dave Pinter [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, December 02, 2003 9:07 AM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) Robert Hood In NYC > Did anyone go see Robert Hood spin last Wednesday night, Thanksgiving > Eve? How was his set and how was the event? I was there and stayed for about half of Hood's set. It was put together by Todd Sines and held at the Coral Room which for those who haven't heard about it, features a HUGE tank filled with water behind the bar. The tank has tropical fish and occasionally a 'real' mermaid swims around. I think the place isn't usually on the map for techno judging by the crowd. Todd did an excellent live set in X-trac form. Having seen Stewart Walker only two days earlier I rediscovered how good a live pa can be. Todd's set seemed to abruptly end...couldn't tell if it was a gear related problem or the staff cutting him off. He seemed a bit frustrated though. Kimyon (another Ohio native) played a 45min opener for Rob. Lots of good 313 stuff. UR, Dan Bell, and a few old Chicago classics. Rob started around 2:30ish and launched into a pitched up version of Groove La Chord and continued on with a pretty banging set. Again the crowd wasn't really expecting this and many departed. Rob's mixing was really clean and not having ever seen him before I was very curious. There just didn't seem to be any sort of atmosphere in the space though and I think a lot of folks were burnt out from the Kompakt party the night before. I would like to see Rob again. Does anyone know if he usually plays a lot of his own records is his sets? I didn't catch one in the hour+ I heard him.

Re: (313) Robert Hood interview
I'd much rather see questions about music than politics or religion. Especially if an artist is not trying to convey a political message with his music. > More like a man using the guise of religion to foment Evil acts... The huiman race (modern man) is evolving with technology and have a greater understanding about the sciences. Much of the worlds conflic is caused by globalization as old cutures become obsolete and conform to a modern way of life. It is natural for people to resist change, you will always have fundamentalist who do not want to give up their old belief system. "Atahuallpa arrived in great state surrounded by his officers. Great crowds of people crammed into the square. Pizarro sent one of his priests, Friar Vicente Valverde, to speak to Atahuallpa. He said he was an ambassador from a great king overseas. Friar Vicente explained that the Spanish ruler was a friend of God and called upon the Inca to renounce their gods. Atahuallpa asked Friar Vicente what authority he had for his belief, and the friar told him it was all written in the book he was holding. The Inca then said: "Give me the book so that it can speak to me." Atahuallpa held the book next to his ear trying to listen to its pages. At last he asked: "Why doesn't the book say anything to me?" And he threw it on to the ground with a haughty and disdainful gesture. Father Vicente shouted that the Indians were against the Christian faith and gave the order to attack. The Spanish emerged with their guns from the porticoes around the square and fired in to the massed crowds of unarmed people." = [EMAIL PROTECTED] dj mixing tips: Cyclone A Place Called Bliss vrs. Yes they are the same people. They do a great liveset btw. If you have a change to check them out, please do so. I saw them play live a few times here in holland, the things they do live as the memory foundation is really, really good! Re: (313) Robert Hood imitations?
agreed that 'imitator' is bad. Original poster just used the wrong word I'd say. I'm sure you all knew what he meant though. On Jacek: I attempted to pronounce his name to Pacou when he was over here - he just laughed. I don't know who the original poster must have meant, Jacek is the only artist I can think of from Poland, apart from the other guy with the unpronounceable name who is aka ECHOPLEX (I think he is Canadian too). How confusing. Techno is our nationality. SM - Original Message - From: "Mark S. diego uses some detroit inspired sounds sometimes, but i don't know that i would call him detroit or minimal. he's more like a cross between kanzleramt (which has released most of his stuff) and inigo kennedy. really great artist; some very unique and forward thinking techno. but if you're looking for something "detroit" you may be disappointed/surprised. i really wouldn't call him a rob hood imitator at all. then, imo, neither is jacek. - Original Message - From: "techno" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "henrique casanova" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, January 15, 2003 10:52 AM Subject: Re: (313) Robert Hood imitations? > Maybe someone could elaborate and give me your opinion on these . > (I mostly mail order). > I have these listed under Detroit minmal (style) techno. > > RELIC FORNICATION EP ENABLE > SONIC INSOMNIAC TARETH EP NEW RELIGION > DIEGO INSTANT REALITY DIALECT > RODENBUSH EP TRANSIENT > > on 1/15/03 12:55 AM, henrique casanova at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > Jacek Sienkiewicz's work is very good. his album techne will never leave my > > bag. i am a gigant fan of Hood's music (m plant style mainly) and im really > > glad other talented persons make music with this kinda inspiration. a good > > example would be sterac tracks that sometimes sound like tributes to robert > > hood style. i hope you guys can name a big number of "rob hood imitations" > > because it will definitly sound good. i was listening to the groovetech > > stremings of neil iceton's singularity ep and it sound pretty cool to me. > > serious drum programming, deep strong chords (sounding similar to hood's > > chords) and a nice atmosfere to make a str8 techno set more interesting. > > > > well, lets wait for more minimal advices from this topic. : ] > > > > take care you all > > light! > > > > henrique

Jacek Sienkiewicz's work is very good. his album techne will never leave my bag. i am a gigant fan of Hood's music (m plant style mainly) and im really glad other talented persons make music with this kinda inspiration. a good example would be sterac tracks that sometimes sound like tributes to robert hood style. i hope you guys can name a big number of "rob hood imitations" because it will definitly sound good. i was listening to the groovetech stremings of neil iceton's singularity ep and it sound pretty cool to me. serious drum programming, deep strong chords (sounding similar to hood's chords) and a nice atmosfere to make a str8 techno set more interesting. well, lets wait for more minimal advices from this topic. : ] take care you all light! henrique - Original Message - From: "s mcgill" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "techno" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "313" <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, January 15, 2003 1:42 AM Subject: Re: (313) Robert Hood imitations? > I have always liked Jacek Sienkiewicz's records. > I think he complements Hood, but still has his own take on things. > I know he is from Poland and he sometimes appears on here. well I've found that people who listen to music tend to be influenced by it. the people that I think of as making forward looking music either dont listen to outside music or they are more students of music than fans of a particular genre. -Joe - Original Message - From: "techno" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Saturday, November 30, 2002 4:14 PM Subject: Re: (313) Robert Hood interview online on 11/30/02 11:55 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > i was telling someone that i was in a big regression phase > musically..bringing out the old industrial stuff and this was his reply.. > i have my own thoughts but thought i'd see what other people had to say > > > "Seems to be the trend with us old people. FN> I havent found any info or mention of it on the net, can anyone shed some FN> light on this? Its a good record. Some of it is along the lines of his old "Internal Empire" stuff, which I generally find too plodding, but other tracks get funkier and more aggressive, and are more in line with the stuff he's done as The Vision. Re: [313] Robert Hood on Peacefrog????
I agree on the new M-Plant comment. That Mega/Supernatural 12" that I just heard is not even anything I would buy and I'm usually all over M-Plant stuff. Re: [313] Robert Hood on Peacefrog????
The 12" is really great! The A-side "Who taught you maths" is more in the style like his brilliant "Internal empire" album on Tresor years ago. Highly recommended. The B-side "True enemies, false friends" is okay but not as outstanding IMO. The typical style that he made on his last M-Plant records that I don't like too much honestly.. :-) Cheers, Arne "henrique casanova" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> schrieb: > i couldnt find any streamings to this record. how is it?? its impossible to > buy all releases by thim man. hehe i guess thares no other detroit artist > releasing so many recods. > > > - Original Message - > From: "Arne Weinberg" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "313 Mailing List" <313@hyperreal.org> > Sent: Tuesday, July 09, 2002 3:06 PM > Subject: [313] Robert Hood on Peacefrog > > > Hello folks... > > Just received the new 12" of Robert Hood on Peacefrog.
