were you hired to write the liner notes to the CD???  

my opinion on the CD??  since no one has asked i am going to give it.

i like minimal.  i like techno.  i like this CD.  there ain't no g0ddamn
arguing about that.

my comments were from a combination of conversations with him, 
articles i've read, and from video clips of the de9:ce  final 
scratch discussion/demo he did in new york not too long ago.

I'm sure someone will think this is a great article, but with lines like :

One song, Kladfvgbung Micshk, uses a prepared piano for both the rhythm
and the melody, and this suggestion - that a rhythm instrument can have a
melodic value, and vice versa - creates a sense of ambiguity that hovers
over the whole album: we're often not quite sure whether we're hearing a
beat or a tone.

WTF!  Of course a rhythm instrument can have a melodic value, considering
the writer is paying close attention to RDJ's use of the piano, he/she
should at least know something about the piano, or maybe the guitar, bass,
drums, etc.  All rhythm instruments have tones, a beat IS a tone.

I would really like to know what Final Scratch had to do with DE9 2, besides
being an influence on it (whatever that means).  The best part of the
article is definitely: (the author is speaking of Hawtin's use of a Phillipe
Cam record)

It's a shame there aren't more surprises like that. Too much of Closer to
the Edit rushes by without making much of an impression; its amalgamated
thump never shows any signs of letting up.

[313] speaking of hawtin... (was Re: [313] Hawtin + Aphex Twin - NY Times)

No one mentioned anything about his set at Nikita last Friday in SF.
I just wanted to drop a quick mention of it, and I must say, as someone
who has critized Richie's more recent (read: '99 up to present) sets,
I was really impressed.  About an hour to an hour and half of bangin'
(but not the drumcode-stiff type bangin', more inna funky vein),
and then almost two hours of beautiful, deep, minimal, bliss.  One of
the most emotional sets I've seen him play...There was actual melody!
And no 909 stupidity.  I really felt like he's started trying to take
people on a journey again.  I thanked him for it afterwards and he said
that he was really into it that night as well.

Maybe the final scratch thing has had a positive effect on his
programming...it was definitely reminding me of the richie of old...

he said that was probably the best time he's ever had playing in SF. 
his set the following night in LA was quite similar.. came on, 
floored it for a while, backed off and played some de9:ce tracks, and 
then wound up banging it out again - but more funky, like you said. 
he snuck in that You Spin Me Round remix, as well as a rework of 
Coffee Pot, which kept a little humor and a lot of screaming fans 
going for it from beginning to end.  they gave him an encore and damn 
i wish i knew what that track was!
