Re: [313] more political crap from me (OT) - Bush
Bush was voted in by white males, he didn't get signifcant votes from women or people of colour. Traditionally most African-Americans vote Democrat. Also Bush got in by disenfranchising Latin and African-American voters in Florida - I think this was to be challenged by the NAACP but I haven't read anything more about this. I often wonder how voting patterns would change if voting was compulsory in the US as it is in Australia. Very OT post on my part. >The other day a friend of mine told me about some survey he read in >which 3 out of 5 African-Americans refused to even recognize George >Bush as their president. Now, I don't know the validity of these statistics, >but it would not at all surprise me.
Re: [313] more political crap from me (OT) - Bush
this is not a matter of speculation either, it is a fact on public record...you only need to care to look. GM Actually, it is not a weird conspiracy thing. The Bush family has stong ties with the American Intelligence Community, George Herbert Bush was Director of the CIA in 1970, and had ties with the bay of pigs invasion through his oil holdings. The republican presidential campaigns from 1980-92 were run by ex-CIA spooks. George Herbet was a member of the Skull and Bones society at Yale... If you really examine the American Intelligence Community's involvement with national politics since Truman allowed the OSS to become the CIA in 1945, there have been some interesting shananigans. You can marginalize someones interest in these issues as conspiracy mongering, but if you actually look at it, some serious questions are raised. The CIA is a huge organization with a massive budget, that is not accountable to anyone. They are doing something with all that money...and it goes beyond echlon and carnivore. Remember one thing and one thing only with regard to this whole topic.the United States Government is THE BIGGEST CORPORATION in the world. RE: [313] more political crap from me (OT)
First, let me apologize in advance for nudging 313 further off-topic-- --but: While the Libertarian position on individual rights is an admirable one, the other side of the party's position is a flat lack of concern with societal responsibility, or at least an apparently naive faith in human decency and the all-solving power of free market capitalism. Definitely, check out the libertarian party, but carefully consider whether its emphasis on individual rights really needs to be tied to repealing environmental and workplace regulations, dumping (rather than fixing) social security in favor of binding your retirement funds to the caprices of the stock market, abruptly ending all forms of public assistance, dumping the idea of a public education. Economically, how is this an alternative to the two major parties? Frankly, part of the party's appeal is that it suggests that the more comfortable members of our society should be left alone to do what they want, without worrying about what happens to anyone else. I'm not suggesting that this is Ani or Holly's motivation in an interest in the party--from their previous posts, it certainly doesn't seem to be--or that libertarians in general are selfish or unconcerned with the fate of others. But, if only in the spirit of May Day, I felt obliged to note that the libertarian party does have a right-wing economic bent. On the 313 front: Picked up the new Mike Grant on Moods and Grooves. The original and the Mr. G mix are great. Way to use a Maya Angelou sample. And Rob Hood's "Apartment" is mighty nice, too. RE: [313] more political crap from me (OT)
yeah, corporate america has displayed such good citizenship; lets get rid of all those nasty laws the provide minimum wages, workers rights, food inspection, FDA medicine testing, environmental protections, consumer safety laws... ya know, things were so much better for the average person in the 19th century. Lets forget about how regulation has helped the average consumer in the 20th century. It isn't a big deal, I know we can rely on corporate altruism. It worked so well in the 1800's. I do not mean to sound like a whiney middle class anti-corporate college student, but c'mon! Read Howard Zinn's "A People's History of The United States of America", and then tell me that the liberatarian party is going to make the US a better place to live. I think their approach to personal freedom and social responsiblity is good, but a complete laissez faire approach to government is unrealistic as best, and frankly dangerous at worst. All the things that dubya is doing right now that are scary would happen under the libratarians as well. The WTO is scary, do you want to open the door even wider for organizations like that? I voted for John Brown in 96, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what I was thinking. Re: [313] more political crap from me (OT)
I think it's really important that people not actually reject him, but stay informed of him and what the people in charge are doing. I think Washington is counting on certain portions of the younger audience to not stay informed, read the news and be involved due to who is in office b/c they don't relate. I don't chase the news, but simply reading MSN or Yahoo headlines (both postings I got from one or the other) is important-no matter which political way you go.On the brighter side, perhaps by stealthly watching Bush we'll learn what it is exactly we want in office next timeand apparently it can't come soon enough IMHO. The white house is turning into a tree house. done w/the sermon and apologies for further encouraging OT. d --- M Elliot-Knight <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > It's about time too. > > MEK > > > >From: Kevin Conrad <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >To: 313@hyperreal.org > >Subject: Re: [313] more political crap from me (OT) > >Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 09:12:09 -0700 (PDT) > > > >I laughed my ass of when I read that (in a black > >comedy type of way). I know I don't recognize him. I guess I can count for African Americans and Native Americans since I'm both. Bush is trying to hard to be like daddy.
