surely you jest graham - I think we should anaylze this more (and then some) 
and then someone from the list here write a Phd on Ford's contribution to 
techno at a grass roots level.

4 or 5 years ago on this list a couple of ppl mentioned seeing ads for credit 
cards with a twist on the usual 'j citizen' card-holder name.  Instead the 
adverts showed 'K. Larkin' and 'J. Atkins'..  i think the in-house techno fan 
angle might be right on there.. :)

and powertrainThe Focus was on the marketplace throughout europe ;long
before it crossed the big lake to our shores.
There really isnt any 'Detroit' technology within this automobile.
ummm would it be safe to say that an american design, created in 
Detroit with typical american/Detroit values would be a more acceptable
canidate?
Besides these symantics; how does a car , in any way focus on
Detroit techno?

and also the music combined with the idea of that futuristic/dance oriented
lifestlyle all rolled up in a car.  Alan told me that he was surprised
they didn't use Cosmic Cars instead.

Nopegiven the fluidity of the artform itself (which originated in
Detroit, fled to Europe, then came back to Detroit...with stops in Iowa
among others along the way), I think it fits nicely.

I seem to remember an early interview with Juan Atkins talking about how
he was much more interested in Ford's robots than he was in Gordy's
music.

said the ad features no ufos. huh? could there be 313 members possibly 
that clueless? if it is in the ad, is it the original or the awful remix 
from classics..?


Saw the Ford ad last night on fox and it is pretty cool. It seems to be 
running pretty consistantly during prime time for those wanting to see it 
here in the states. I checked out the site televisioncommercials.com to see 
if they added it yet to their site. Maybe if a few more people sent them an 
email it might get added faster.

educate me: i never heard there was remix? i only know the version that is
on Retro Techno/Detroit Definitive cd. and i've always thought it's the
original version since it's the only record i've seen that track. 

i missed the 12 as i didn't know that my friend who was selling bunch of
12 away didn't tell me he had it and he sold it to somebody else. well
you can't have everything can't you?

There is a remixed version on RS' Classics compilation. It has a woeful
hard core thing going on that certainly isn't on the original.

'modernized edit'. The vocals are left out. I have the original 12 on
metroplex from way back and to my knowledge there have not been any remix's

I have a vinyl version of an old network comp (retrotechno: detroit emotions
electric) which includes a very strange remix of no ufos.  way way too much
808 through the unsequenced delay box on that one. :)
