(313) subject detroit vol. 2 CDR?

2010-03-22 Thread David Barna
Recently I purchased a copy this disc from an online webstore, not
direct from Subject Detroit. When it came it was a CDR with a slim
case and no artwork. The seller said nothing about it being a CDR and
I thought would be getting a real CD. Does anyone know if the ones
Subject Detroit stocks are CDRs as well? Or are those real CDs with
artwork? Thanks.

2010-03-22 Thread David Barna
I actually bought off discogs.com, from a record store that sells on
there. It's very annoying, plus I have no idea if it is legit or not.
That's why I asked if the ones DJ Bone sells through the Subject
Detroit online store are CDRs like this. I did send Subject Detroit an
email about it also.

I purchased a replacement copy at Record Time Ferndale a few years
ago. It came in the original case. But the CD was a CDR. Didn't have
the green screen on the actual CD.

Hmmm. This one has a green paper label on the disc, the kind CD-ROM drives hate.

I wondered how long that would last. At the time, it seemed like a strange
fit, then I realized half of the big guns of Detroit had relocated there, too.
I wanted to bring him to Dallas, but I knew this town wasn't ready. However,
there seems to be a turn for the better recently. . .

Speaking of West Detroit, we've got Ryan Elliott this weekend

It's no accident that two letters always precede Bone's name whenever he's
on the bill. First and foremost, Bone is a DJ---in the truest sense. When he
spins, it's as if the turntables and the mixer become a physical extension
of his body. He employs every possible technique in the disc jockey arsenal
masterfully: blending, scratching, backspinning, no monitors or headphones;
unrivaled in his use of the fader switch and he incorporates them all into
every set. From his standing room only residency performances to after-hours
spots, he rocks every show as if it's his last.

What the general public and far too many DJs don't realize is that Bone
spins as much for his own enjoyment as he does for the audience. It's a
compulsion that only those who live for what they do possess and those who
don't can never understand: Bone lives to spin-it's a necessary part of his
existence. His dedication to the art of dance music and DJing is so
untainted and intense that the tales of his confrontational encounters with
flashy booking agents and big name djs are already the stuff of legend. No
hype or trends, just a relentless drive and passion to take the party to
another level. That's why he's one of the few spin masters other DJs hate to
follow.

Dj Bone will be at Rogue on October 5th supported by D1's Eamonn Doyle for a
night of shock and awe on three turntables. Be sure not to miss this rare
and exclusive event.

(313) Subject Detroit 3

2005-07-29 Thread Gary . Girard

The latest instalment from DJ Bone's mix series landed on my doorstep on
Tuesday, I can tell you that it doesn't disappoint! The usual high level
of mixing with a nice balance of Detroit techno soul tough beats, lots of
feeling ... sounds like a worthy successor to part 2 to me.

I need to digest it properly still, but my initial reaction is all good.

--- Begin Forwarded Press Release

SUBJECT DETROIT VOLUME 3 MIX CD

Mixed by DJ BONE

Subject Detroit Vol. 3 is the highly anticipated follow up to DJ
Bone's 2001 very successful Subject Detroit Vol.2 mix CD.

This project has been in the works for over 3 years from the concept
to the track-listing all the way up to the actual mix.

For over 15 years mixing has been Bone's true art and this mix
displays every facet of the skills that make him one of the best
Electronic music DJs in the world. With this project Bone delivers
an original, one of a kind and timeless experience.

The concept came about when DJ Bone noticed how the vast majority of
mix CDs are simply a bunch of high profile, hit songs compiled and
mixed. There would be an abundance of focus on the songs and the big
name DJ commissioned to do the mix as opposed to the actual mix
itself. This and the realization that most were mixed and edited on
a computer was enough fuel to motivate Bone to act.

He wanted to push things further than the ordinary mix and really
make this project unique.

To do this Bone contacted some of his favorite producers and asked
them to create new productions for him to use on the mix. The result
is an entire mix of all new, unreleased songs from Aaron Carl, A Guy
Called Gerald, Ben Sims, Mark Broom, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Scan7,
Scan X, Futago Technologies, DJ Bone himself and many more.

Subject Detroit Vol.3 is a live, 3 turntable mix of all unreleased
songs done in true DJ Bone fashion, straight up Detroit style.

No edits… no computers… no CDs… just raw energy, soul, skill and
imagination.

(313) SUBJECT DETROIT VOLUME 3 MIX CD

2005-04-11 Thread Wildtek Concept / DJ Dimitri Pike
Out In June ! Can't wait to abuse about it ;-)

SUBJECT DETROIT VOLUME 3 MIX CD

Mixed by DJ BONE

Subject Detroit Vol. 3 is the highly anticipated follow up to DJ Bone’s 2001
very successful Subject Detroit Vol.2 mix CD.

This project has been in the works for over 3 years from the concept to the
track-listing all the way up to the actual mix.

For over 15 years mixing has been Bone’s true art and this mix displays every
facet of the skills that make him one of the best Electronic music DJs in the
world. With this project Bone delivers an original, one of a kind and timeless
experience.

The concept came about when Dj Bone noticed how the vast majority of mix CDs are
simply a bunch of high profile, hit songs compiled and mixed. There would be an
abundance of focus on the songs and the big name DJ commissioned to do the mix
as opposed to the actual mix itself. This and the realization that most were
mixed and edited on a computer was enough fuel to motivate Bone to act.

He wanted to push things further than the ordinary mix and really make this
project unique.

To do this Bone contacted some of his favorite producers and asked them to
create new productions for him to use on the mix. The result is an entire mix
of all new, unreleased songs from Aaron Carl, A Guy Called Gerald, Ben Sims,
Mark Broom, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Scan7, Scan X, Futago Technologies, DJ Bone
himself and many more.

Subject Detroit Vol.3 is a live, 3 turntable mix of all unreleased songs done in
true DJ Bone fashion, straight up Detroit style.

No edits…no computers….no CDs…just raw energy, soul, skill and imagination.

Tentative Release Date: June 2005

Heya

Bone's tracks are better in my opinion, but it does sound like lohie is
taking a cue from Bone..which is a good thing.

Also, I wanted to mention that Orlando Voorn has re-released basic
bastard 4, and has now officially released basic bastard 5!
And...(drumroll) ... Los Hermanos 5 is now available through Submerge (
on 7 inch)

Did I mention the new hieroglyphic being samples! More great music,
you can hear samples at dancetracks.com

yeh don't get me wrong they're both super dope. I wrote that last
message as the second track was coming in. that release is my favorite
from bone so far. having given the rest a listen, I'm not as keen on
the dj lohie (who is he?) as i am on the two bone releases, but it
still kills 98% of recent techno activity imo. but that's just me.

ages.

If anyone has a copy they would like to sell me, or if i could send someone a
cd or minidisk to make me a copy, i would really appreciate it. Ive tried ebay
and gemm but to no avail. Surely someone on this list must have a copy.

I believe the Dogon of Mali annually traced the movements of Sirius B
through a ritualistic dance. Did so for hundreds of years if I remember
correctly. Sirius B was only able to be seen by modern tech in the late
fifties. I think they stopped the dance a few years back because of the
growth of Islam in the region.

Looks like there is a new Subject Detroit release out: DOG STAR "Returning Back to Sirius." Laurent Garnier plays itin hisnew mix from Rome. It is the second track into the set.

Looks like this one is promo only for now? It is a nice cut regardless.

Twas a wicked mix from Bone on John Peel's show last night, I really enjoyed
listening to it. I thought it was a typical Bone set that featured a lot of
classics - no Black Lives though :o( (or was that played at the start? I
missed the first 10 mins) I think Bone plays quite similar to Rolando who I also
rate as one of my favourite DJs - good stuff! :o)
Whilst I'm on the subject of quality Radio 1 mixes, everyone make sure you
catch Dave Clarke's Essential Mix with Josh Wink on the 14th. It promises to be
a set a half (Dave did win the Essential Mix Of The Year award for last
year!) - I will be there! :o)

Multiordinal Tracking Unit by Unspecified Enemies is the second 12 on a

Bone's mix (funky techno, sandwiched inbetween a Peception cut on UR and
Firekeeper on Red Planet) it's not by Scan 7.

there have been 3 releases thus far on Counterattack - a pre-release 7, the

recommend all 3 releases - v.funky techno and electro's the name of the

Black Lives, which is pretty cool, but I particularly like Laurent Garnier's

Re: [313] Subject Detroit

2001-02-07 Thread diana potts

The person behind this is Detroit's DJ Bone. It's
his record label and the concept was that each artist
on the label was to be a subject. (he being subject
001 or 01 i believe).
They were to be nameless, hence the quality of
the records would only be based on the quality of the
music on the record and not whose name is on it.

I did a great interview for Massive Magazine with
Bone. I'd post it, but I believe the disc is long gone
and lost :/

Hello everybody...

I got this 12 for a long time and wonder who was the artist behind it. It´s
called Unleashed and it´s produced by Subject Detroit. It was released on
a

label of the same name. I never heard of another release of Subject Detroit
again. Who is the person behind and are there any other releases??

Thanx in advance.
