[AI] Access India convention recording upload second day

2008-10-16 Thread Kotian, H P
Hi all

I am back from my tour of Rajastan which was awsome. More about it on a
separate mail.

I have a mountain of mails on the list to catchup on and shall take me some
time to go through it all.

I must admit I was disappointed to see some mails which were piracy related
which came into the list during my absence. Just before my holiday I posted a
mail asking members to desist from piracy related mails. No members joined
thereafter and hence no taking excuse of posting from new member.

I also unsubscribed the member who was finding it difficult to unsubscribe.
Despite a number of emails helping the person to unsubscribe, he could not do
it on his own.

Our friend Vikas who was also taking care of the recording on the second day
uploaded the audio file on sendspace. The link is given below. As it is
available for just a week, please download it at the earliest.
This is the second days prelunch recording. The post lunch recording will be
posted tomorrow.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/uog7fc
I also take this opportunity to thank Prashant Verma for the first days
recording.

Here I would like toclarrify about the noise level in the auditorium. I think
the noise was enhanced by the very good acostic in that auditorium. This
however went against us as even the small noise of paper crackle would get
carried right to the other end. Admitedly, the noise was equally irritating
both to the speaker and the audience.

I have now, also received good quality recording for the first day which was
not complete. I shall upload it as it is in a few days.

Harish

Re: [AI] Again we are left on the lurch

2008-10-16 Thread Amiyo Biswas
Hello Asif,

If you meet the honourable Broadcasting Minister, request him to arrange for
football commentary also. We have not heard commentaries on the national
football league for many years. Now even the local matches are not
broadcast. Recently Dempo Sports Club of Goa reached the final of the
coveted Asia Cup. The semi-final match was not telecast, let alone the
question of radio commentary.

The Broadcasting Minister is himself the president of All India Football
Federation.

Best regards,

Amiyo Biswas.

Re: [AI] About the Excel Date Format.

2008-10-16 Thread Amiyo Biswas
Hello,

You can also use the Immediate window in vb editor as a calculator. Put a
question mark, then type a calculation, and then press enter key. The result
will appear in the next line. Say for an instance, type
? 2+3
and press enter. The result 5 will appear in the next line. It is better
than windows calculator because you can review the input.

Best regards,

Amiyo Biswas.

Subject: [AI] About the Excel Date Format.

  Hello,

Just out of playfulness, I found out another solution for finding out
the
  day of a specific date.

Open any office application like word or excel.

Press alt+f11 to open the visual basic editor.

Pres ctrl+g to access the immediate window. This window lets you test
  code.

Now type in the following code and press enter:
  ? format(28/10/2008, )
Tuesday will appear on the next line.

Just remember to put the question sign at the beginning. Alternately,
you
can put the word print instead, as here:
  print format(28/10/2008, )

Enter the date in mm/dd/ inside the quotes. If you put just ddd,
three
d instead of four d inside the second pair of quotes, it will only print
  Tue and not Tuesday.

Maybe it will work in office 2003.

  Best regards,
  Amiyo Biswas.

2008-10-16 Thread Shadab Husain
In addition, I feel it necessary that the eyeway radio program must be
broadcasted for half an hour every week. It would be encouraging if
you lobbied the minister for this as well, because, there isn't any
program for the visually impaired transmitted either on the television
or radio - and , in case if there is any, the quality is poor as
anything.

Thanks

 Dear AI Listers,
One person is facing peculiar issue with Skype.

When we start skype, it runs for 2 minutes and then disappears
automatically. Strange thing is that we even can not see it in the
task manager. That is to say, it completely gets closed.
Jaws starts saying when it gets closed if we press any erro key no
window is active press windows M to go to the desktop

We have uninstalled it completely including all registry keys and
other folders and installed it again after downloading the setup again
but still the problem is persisting.
 Any solution?
 Regards,
 Amar Jain.

Well, I feel it unnecessary to add that in order to check spellings in
MS Word, just press F7. One can navigate further by pressing tab or
jaws curser. To see the spellings of words, one can press Insert + 5
when the numlock is off. Make a file of the misspelled words and
practice them on the keyboard; one will progress soon - it isn't an
issue. (Bonus: typing will catch a good rapidity and typos will
vanish.) For punctuations, I will prepare an easy essay and will put
it on my blog in the near future. Keep improving, with lots of
 encouragement, Shadab Husain

I used to have one from transcend, but it has some problem with it's

[AI] Court constitutes panel on problems of disabled students

2008-10-16 Thread pradeep banakar
Court constitutes panel on problems of disabled students
Thaindian News

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday constituted a
committee to examine the problems faced by disabled students in the
capital's schools because of the absence of teachers.A divison bench
comprising Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar
set up a committee and asked it to submit a detailed report within
four weeks and posted the matter for hearing Nov 26.

The committee includes the education secretary of the Delhi
government, an official each from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi
(MCD), New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and the Delhi Cantonment
Board, and advocates Ashok Agarwal and S.K. Gupta.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by NGO Social
Jurist that contented that 1,000 schools run by the Delhi government
and 1,800 MCD schools, having thousands of students with disabilities
and particularly those suffering from blindness, hearing impairment
and mental retardation, do not have trained teachers.

The petition highlighted the fact that students with disabilities do
not get a barrier-free environment in these schools.

Ashok Agarwal, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, cited the case
of Avinash, a blind Class 3 student he met Sep 1 in the MCD School in
E-block of Jahangirpuri.

Agarwal said that Avinash was in dire need of a specially trained
teacher without whom he could not receive any education. The boy also
needs reading and writing material in Braille.

[AI] can accessindia goes mobile?

2008-10-16 Thread ruchir falodiya
hi every1 at accessindia!

first of all, i'm very glad to inform that i've once again, acquired
top position in internal examinations. ( computer programming isn't
really hard after all. )

as many of you peoples mite know that i've been looking for free web
to sms resource since many days,

not only i found that with help from all of you, but looking at those
websites, i found1 which supports free group sms.

well, yeah, it have limitations of only 140 characters, and appends
free advertisement at end of every message, and limited to india only,
but still, while researching,
that strikes an idea, how about if we carry accessindia on to our mobiles?

group size is no problam, as i've seen groups as big as 2 members,
and have been testing the site longer then 3 days.

message delivery takes a bit of time, but it delivers at last.

by doing this, we can reach to peoples who dont have computers, but
have mobiles with talks or mobileSpeak enabled.

the website is
www.smsgupshup.com

i just need your views and thoughts about it and point of view from
the administrator, harish sir as it also supports blocking/ removeing
users from the group.

i'm thinking to keep it like a announcement list, because replying to
a topic costs rs. 3 per SMS.

the idea is, if everything goes right, i'll sum up all technology
news, ideas, and most important topics of accessindia mailing list,
and post them to the sms group via internet ( that's free ).

so, just reply to list about what you think of this.
and if everything goes according to what i've thought, we mite reach
more peoples and expand our group so that more peoples can get
benefited in a pretty portable way.

nothing has been fixed as of yet, and its just an idea.
moderator's say will be considered the final decision, but your views
and responses plays an important role in this subject.

thankyou,
with regards,

ruchir.

i've just completed listening the recording of first day of

Subject: [AI] Access India convention recording upload second day
Hi all

I am back from my tour of Rajastan which was awsome. More about it on
a separate mail.

I have a mountain of mails on the list to catchup on and shall take me
some time to go through it all.

I must admit I was disappointed to see some mails which were piracy
related which came into the list during my absence. Just before my
holiday I posted
a mail asking members to desist from piracy related mails. No members
joined thereafter and hence no taking excuse of posting from new
member.

I also unsubscribed the member who was finding it difficult to
unsubscribe. Despite a number of emails helping the person to
unsubscribe, he could not do
it on his own.

Our friend Vikas who was also taking care of the recording on the
second day uploaded the audio file on sendspace. The link is given
below. As it is available
for just a week, please download it at the earliest.
This is the second days prelunch recording. The post lunch recording
will be posted tomorrow.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/uog7fc
I also take this opportunity to thank Prashant Verma for the first
days recording.

Here I would like toclarrify about the noise level in the auditorium.
I think the noise was enhanced by the very good acostic in that
auditorium. This however
went against us as even the small noise of paper crackle would get
carried right to the other end. Admitedly, the noise was equally
irritating both to
the speaker and the audience.

I have now, also received good quality recording for the first day
which was not complete. I shall upload it as it is in a few days.

Harish

Re: [AI] Help needed regarding mob n72

2008-10-16 Thread bhavesh dhanak

Hi, just thought of replying, if it would be helpful for you.
Note: I have not used N72, it's possible, some options may vary.

About your first problem.

1.
Go to settings and open profiles.

2.
As you will get a list of profiles, select general and open it.

3.
Then you shall get 2 options as activate and personalize, then, select
personalize.

4.
Now, scroll down and when you reach message alert tone, press the selection
key (joy stick in some mobiles), or press the option key (key 1) on it.

5.
If you have pressed the selection key, then, you will be presented with the
list of your tones, and if, you have pressed the option key, then select the
change option.

6.
Scroll to beep tone or your desired tone and press the selection key or key
1. Scroll up and down and check wither your desired tone is been selected
as, message alert tone or not.

7.
Once you have done the changes, you should be also sure that your mobile is
set to general profile, means the profile general should be activated. To
confirm this, after following the above steps, press the back key ( key 2)
and when you land on the profile general, press the selection key and this
time select activate option. Now, it's done.

About your second problem

Please tell clearly, wither it is just the screen reader's problem or even
you are unable to type the text correctly.

Well, if you are unable to type the text correctly, I think, your predictive
dictionary mode is on.

To solve this, if I am not wrong, go to the text message window and when you
are in the new creating message window, before typing, try to press the
number or the hash key, ( the key just under the number 9). Press it several
times, and if it says dictionary, then change until it says auto or upper
case, and then try to type.

Hope this information would be helpful. In case of any inconvenience due to
any errors, I deeply apologize, and I would request respected members to
correct me.

 Hello!
First, let me congratulate you (not for paying a big money to BSNL) but
 for
the way you put your views again in such a nice language.
Be sure, if you are using BSNL's home 500 plan, then I tell you the
 truth
that you can download any amount of data during these comforting 6 hours

daily, (doesn't matter even if you cross 120 or 180 GB (yes GB).
Only those using home 250 plan are not entitled to avail this free
 service,
all others using home 500 plan or greater can download/upload freely at
their will during 2 AM to 8 AM.
So my friend, put special efforts to get up at 2 at midnight and this
 will
set you free from all your download worries.

Subject: [AI] regarding the free download time in BSNL broadband

 Folks:

Many of you were kind enough to entertain my long list of questions
regarding BSNL broadband. Drawing up the cheque for what is arguably
 the
largest sum for telephone/internet I have ever paid in my life, I
thought I have learnt all that I needed to learn about BSNL broadband.
But yes, as I re-read most of the mails I have received from you, one
thing I feel I need to confirm, if I ever were to avoid receiving
another inflated internet bill from our nation's beloved service
provider: is it absolutely true that we don't incur any charges for
things we download between 2 am and 8 am in BSNL broadband (Rs 500
plan)? And, let me put the point even more clearly, does it mean we
 can
download any number of big files (180 mb, 120 mb and so on) during
 these
hours and escape paying anything at all? I don't want to take a gamble
and so I thought I might as well ask those long time users of BSNL
broadband this question. I hope I haven't caused any annoyance by
bringing back an issue discussed to death not long ago!!!

 Subramani

and press enter. The result 5 will appear in the next line. It is better

Hi, just thought of replying, if it would be helpful for you.
Note: I have not used N72, it's possible, some options may vary.

About your first problem.

1.
Go to settings and open profiles.

2.
As you will get a list of profiles, select general and open it.

3.
Then you shall get 2 options as activate and personalize, then, select
personalize.

4.
Now, scroll down and when you reach message alert tone, press the selection
key (joy stick in some mobiles), or press the option key (key 1) on it.

5.
If you have pressed the selection key, then, you will be presented with
the list of your tones, and if, you have pressed the option key, then
select the change option.

6.
Scroll to beep tone or your desired tone and press the selection key or
key 1. Scroll up and down and check wither your desired tone is been
selected as, message alert tone or not.

7.
Once you have done the changes, you should be also sure that your mobile
is set to general profile, means the profile general should be
activated. To confirm this, after following the above steps, press the
back key ( key 2) and when you land on the profile general, press the
selection key and this time select activate option. Now, it's done.

About your second problem

Please tell clearly, wither it is just the screen reader's problem or even
you are unable to type the text correctly.

Well, if you are unable to type the text correctly, I think, your
predictive dictionary mode is on.

To solve this, if I am not wrong, go to the text message window and when
you are in the new creating message window, before typing, try to press
the number or the hash key, ( the key just under the number 9). Press it
several times, and if it says dictionary, then change until it says auto
or upper case, and then try to type.

Hope this information would be helpful. In case of any inconvenience due
to any errors, I deeply apologize, and I would request respected members
to correct me.

Re: [AI] railway-triple confusion!!!

2008-10-16 Thread sandesh

It is indeed of great significance.
It did reach all inboxes (at least it did reach mine) but it's surprising
really that noone said anything about it. it will definitely create more
confusion or rather i would say it has already started.
A week or more ago, my wife was travelling in the same compartment and one
OH person along his normal wife and small kid was literally begging for
their seats, which he said was reserved. On ticket, it was mentioned that
these are of berths 3 and 4 of S11 compartment. he tried to locate S11 but
the train did not have one. Eventually, he called ticket checker and he said
that this coach for handicapped itself is called S11 and 2 of these berths
are alotted to him. Other passengers fought with the checker and finally it
was decided that this couple with their child could sit in the same
compartment.

Bye and regards.

Fellow accessindians!!!

I think I, in my earlier appended message on the topic, had raised an
issue of sufficient importance to merit at least a casual rejoinder or
two. However, I am amazed, to say the least, at the utter silence our
worthy brothren have chose to maintain over the state of affairs.

Pondering over the possible explanations for this fact, I am laid to
consider the possibilities like the earlier message failing to make it to
various inboxes in general apart from my own, or else, I, in my endeavor
to convey the issue with precision, ventured beyond the linguistic
capacities of many of us, or thirdly, even though it pains me to think,
the issue was deemed to be of so little importance as not to merit the
effort to clutter the inboxes, or else, I am sadly and gravely mistaken
about the nature of things.

Anyway, the issue of HP quota being carved out of hitherto existing
general disabled coach and confusing it with ordinary as well as reserved
disabled passengers along with unauthorized occupants and placing it in a
disjointed manner, is still in my opinion an example of increasing trend
of non participative decisions about the disabled being taken supposedly
in their interests but casual in nature and actually disadvantageous to
them often.
Unlike AIR broadcasting cricket commentary for it is the most accessible
to visually impaired, over which we have poured dozens of mails and about
which one of our respected friends promises to arouse honorable I B
minister from the deep slumber which confronts him in a respectable
recuperation centre in our capital,
this issue practically inconveniences us and let us discus, decide and
drop a word about it to some authorities.

Subject: [AI] railway-triple confusion!!!

Friends
A few days ago, in response to a news item about handicapped quota in
sleeper class of Indian railways being increased, I had expressed
apprehensions which unfortunately turned out to be worse than what I had
anticipated. In my face to face encounter with this increased handicapped
quota of six, I found out to my utter horror, that the increase of four
berths comes from nowhere other than handicapped coach being attached at
the extremities of the wrack, which hitherto was a general coach for the
disabled.
Now, it has been recognized as a sleeper coach and four berths therein may
be reserved through reservation counters in HP quota.
Now, it adds to already prevailing chaos in such coaches. Firstly, its use
by all and sundry unreserved passengers is an unpreventable menace.
Secondly, in four berths reserved new avatar, we can not justly prevent
unreserved disabled passengers, thirdly jumbling up reserved and
unreserved passengers disabled or not, in the same coach, does not fit in
any legal or non legal framework.

In fine, HP quota now is equivalent to traveling in unreserved disabled
coach.

And government surely deserves to take credit for enhancing reserved
handicapped quota.

Happy traveling in non interconnected disabled coach with all and sundry.

I too with my little legal knowledge and a whiff of human psychology,
would not accept if anybody told in a miscellaneous coach that I have
reserved berths if anybody disabled with ordinary ticket is legally
permitted to travel as well.

I wonder who is thin thank of lalu?

let us try to convey such niceties to railways.!

There is ladies quota of about six berths in slipper and there is also an
unreserved coach for ladies.

Same can be done for disabled by providing hp quota of two, four, or more
berths in sleeper, and an unreserved coach called handicapped coach
without complicating the matters.

Rajesh

[AI] introduction

2008-10-16 Thread aisha sahani
hello all respected members,
as the subject of my mail suggest that this mail i've sent to

i've just joined this nice list, therefore, before saying anything
else it would be better to give a short introduction.
my name is aisha sahani and i'm a 18 years old girl.
i'm living with my family in delhi and studying in B com first year these days.
recently i got to know about accessindia list, and now i am really
happy being a part of this list cum family.
the reason of joining the list is that though i'm using computer from
few years, but i know only those things which are most essential for
me. i always find it difficult to solve my computer related problems
even if they are so simple. i'm sure that by joining this list, i'll
get a chance to interact with some very studious and scholar people
who will help me in simplifying my daily tasks.
One another very important reason is that due to some reasons, I'm not
in contact with much people in visually impaired community. This
list will be able to provide me a nice opportunity to meet many
personalities, and make friendship as well as take guidance.
please dont mind if i ask some stupid questions, because i'm not a
computer buff and do not understand these concepts deeply till now.
with lots of greetings,
aisha sahani.

 hi every1 at accessindia!

first of all, i'm very glad to inform that i've once again, acquired
top position in internal examinations.

Re: [AI] Nokia E 51

2008-10-16 Thread Amit Bhatt

Dear Prateek,

Mahesh is not a new member on this list but he seldom writes here.
He might have sent the information about E51 because this handset is
compatible with Talks and has become very popular for it's good performance.
Perhaps we have earlier not had any discussion on E51, but you might have
found many visually impaired folks raising their queries about compatible
handsets with Talks or Mobile Speak. In this way, you should not mind this
posting.
Nun the less, there are found many postings pertaining to technology but
have no direct or indirect link with accessibility or disability. We have
been constantly discussing about the Cricket Commentary on Radio witch has
no connection with the electronic discussion, accessibility, disability or
so on.
I think posting about any compatible handset is far better than discussing
radio commentary or any other topic witch should actually not be brought on
the list.
I also posted specifications of Nokia 5320 mentioning that this supports
Mobile Speak and may work with Talks also and interested users can buy it.
someone has also posted about Nokia 5800. so no harm in discussing it.

I just wanted to clarify the things, do not take it otherwise.

Thanks,

Amit Bhatt

hi sir, you seems like a new member.
i'm almost sure that i heard your name first time. though not sure how
new you are on this list.
actually, just wanted to do a humble request, that post on this list
only if you really feel that your post can benefit some one.
what i mean to say that i am unable to understand the reason of
posting the details of nokia e 51 on this list.
in fact, i can not recall any conversation pertaining to nokia e 51 on
this list even in recent days.
what i can understand that this list is a place to learn and share new
things.

mostly, we discuss matters pertaining to disables. therefore, if you
really wanna paist something, paist some piece of informations you'd
feel that it may be beneficial for someone in community.
they may be issues or news related to visually impaired, assistive
devices, or your personal technology or other accessibilities related
problems.
hope to see some informative posts from your side in near future.
please don't mind this because over all it's a very humble request,
and i told only what i felt from the depth of my heart.
and ya, i would love to know about your self.
kindly do let me know.

Re: [AI] Help needed regarding mob n72

2008-10-16 Thread Satguru
Hi friend, to get your ringtone sound for msg, pls go to profiles, move to
the active profile by default it is general, as talks speaks its name first
general, General. In case you have activate any other profile, for
example, Meeting, talks will anounce it as: Meeting, General. choose
personalize, and then move to message tone and press Keyone. now you can
choose any ring tone or sing tone for SMS.

For carachter ecco, press talks key + 1 repeatedly till it speaks letters
words and your problem is solved. Talks key is located just left to the *,
Hope this helps.
