Hello,

FS reader is daisy playback software you can not produce daisy format in
this software.

If you want to convert word file to digital format, you will have to go with
production software like Save as Daisy, Daisy Pipeline, and Dolphin etc.

DAISY: BEST WAY TO READ

Reading experience of DAISY Book is rich in features such as:

· jumping to any page of the book

· jumping to next or previous chapter or sub-section

· moving to next or previous sentence

With all these features the book can be read in following ways:

· Braille book printed on paper or on refreshable Braille display

· DAISY Talking books can be played on CD players, mobile phones,
computers, flash memory players such as I-Pod, etc

· Large print can be read on the computer screen or on paper

· E-text can be read out on computer by even free of cost screen
reading software

The alternative formats to print are:

2. Talking Books

stored on CD are becoming common in the developed world. Efforts are also
being made to provide the benefits of this technology to the developing
countries.

3. E-text

E-text: The screen reading software loaded on a PC becomes an excellent
reader of electronic text, which is easy to produce and distribute among
persons with blindness or print disabilities.

4. Large Print

Large Print: The electronic text can be viewed as large print on a PC and
the large font printing of the book in e-text has made large print
production easier than ever before.

The DAISY Forum of India (DFI) is working for "The Print Disabled" which
is
defined seperately in different states. It may be defined as the
inability

to access print due to a visual, perceptual, or physical disability.
Examples of print disabled include persons with blindness, low vision,
learning disabilities, and the inability to hold a book. Other groups like
aged persons, persons with cerebral palsy, illiterates are also likely to

 Hi Raju,

Yes, NVDA can be used to surf the internet. To view links and Headings
 in
 a
list box, use Insert + F7, it's called Elements list box. Once you
 revoke
the elements list, it has three tab sheets; links, headings and ARIA
 land
marks. You can switch between them using Tab and then left and arrow
 keys,
alternatively, use Alt + H for headings and Ald + D for ARIA land marks.

Feel free to contact me for any additional help.

Well Mahindra sir, in that case there shouldn't be more than one
machine in one ATM. But in practice, banks are installing more than
one machine in one room thereby enabling customers to operate
simultaneously.

now a days all ATMs have more than one machine in one room. And
sighted people can easily see the transaction of other customers,
including the secret pin number. So, i wonder where does privacy come
from.

If it is so that screen turns blank with the usage of a screen reading
ATM, it is really wonderful.

I am trying to find out about this from the central office and would

Before I go further with this thread, let me clarify that I have
obviously
no information as to why or how SBI require a blind user to opt for a
different sort of an ATM card for using speech features. Further, it
is

also
unhealthy to jump to any conclusions with the scant information we
have

here. So, let us look at this objectively.

1. Logically, this ATM card should not be any different from any other
ATM
card. It won't be a separate card that only works with certain ATM
machines
providing a limited set of services.

2. the only difference is that this card will have extra embedded
information that tells an ATM that this user may require speech. If
that

ATM
has a speech feature, it will be enabled automatically. If there is no
speech capabilities in an ATM, it will just offer the standard
interface.

3. you will have to use headphones for speech features anyway. It
would

be
foolish to have your bank balance read out by a loud speaker.

4. the problem with having a switch to enable and disable speech is
that

regular sighted users who may not know about speech features and may
complain that they are unable to use certain features or their
interaction
is different for whatever reason.

5. If SBI are indeed restricting the functionality of these
specialised

ATM
cards like not enabling them to be used in other machines in a normal
way,
it is the most idiotic solution and needs to be resolved.

So, lets channel our energies in obtaining the right information
before

we
start ranting about how differently we are being treated and all that.
I

don't think there is any harm in SBI requiring users to obtain a
slightly
modified card for using accessible ATMs as long as the basic
functionality
of the card is still available.

an uniquely designed card to enable speech in ATM machines?
You can have a small piece of switch to turn on the speakers. If you
are really interested in protecting privacy, you can just give them an
earphone jack, right?
Earphone jacks would also help individuals with other reading
challenges and senior citizens as well, right?

[AI] Persons with disabilities detained

2010-07-09 Thread Gopalakrishnan
Persons with disabilities detained, released

CHENNAI, July 10, 2010

Special Correspondent

The police on Friday picked up a group of persons with disabilities for trying
to hold a candlelight vigil in front of Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore,
demanding a barrier-free environment to enable them access the sanctum
sanctorum.

The protesters were released two hours later. The police assured them that
temporary provisions would be made immediately to improve the access.

The group, led by members of the Federation of Tamilnadu Physically Handicapped
Association, was restrained by the police from congregating, said association
vice-president T.M.N. Deepak.

“We would like to know how a temple that is not completely accessible has been
given ISO certification. A High Court order says that every public place should
be accessible with aids and appliances and that is not the case with the
temple,” said B. Meenakshi of Vidya Sagar.

The protesters presented a petition to the police demanding that “within a
month the government should constitute a committee with persons with disability
to verify the barrier-free universal design features in public places across
Tamil Nadu,” Ms. Meenakshi said.

Re: [AI] about NVDA

2010-07-09 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
The latest version works fine with IE 7&8. Only some commands are
different. Say for example, you press the escape key to come out of
forms mode as opposed to the PC curser in JAWS.

Re: [AI] doubts in labbtop and internet

2010-07-09 Thread Adhimoolam Vetrivel Murugan
I don't think that there are options available in Windows XP, but you
can turn-off your monitor in Vista and Windows 7. Explore your manual
to identify the FN key for turning-off the monitor. It's either FN+F5
or FN+F8. Basically there are three options: Your laptop display,
Display on both projector and the laptop display and finally, display
on projector only. So if you select the third option, the laptop
display gets turned-off. Please note that JAWS will not announce those
options and you will have to verify it with a sighted person. And one
other solution. If you use an external keyboard and select the power
option: "When I close the lid, do nothing", your display gets
turned-off as soon as you close the lid.

Best,

Vetri.

About the monitor I will also like to know. Now coming to the internet
graphics yes, u can do it from the jaws options itself. While on the window
of Internet explorer, open the config with insert plus 6, go in the menu
with alt , right arrow choose set options, go down to graphics and symbols,
enter and select whatever suits u. Confirm with apply/ok and save when
prompted on exit.

Subject: [AI] facing problem in purchasing mutual funds

Hello all,

I want to subscribe some mutual funds. But due to sebi's guideline blind
people must attest their left thumb impressions by notary. But the
notaries are demanding Rs. 20-50 per attestation. So if there is 4
signatures in the form they are demanding Rs. 80 to Rs. 200 to attest the
form. It is not understandable by me that, why the attestation of gazzeted
officers are not valid or why the mutual funds cannot be purchased through
net banking.

Please, share your views not only through this platform but write to sebi
to modify its guidelines and give your views at s...@sebi.gov.nic.in

Hope, you will take this matter seriously and raise your voice.

Regards.

Re: [AI] About DAISY

2010-07-09 Thread Sandeep Kaler

Hello,

FS reader is daisy playback software you can not produce daisy format in
this software.

If you want to convert word file to digital format, you will have to go with
production software like Save as Daisy, Daisy Pipeline, and Dolphin etc.

Hello

Greeting!!

We would like to provide the information about daisy standard and daisy
players.

WHAT IS DAISY?

DAISY: BEST WAY TO PUBLISH

In the DAISY Way, a single source document is prepared on the computer.
From
this source document, all accessible formats such as Braille, Talking
book,

large print book or the e-text book can be prepared in matter of minutes.

1. Braille

Braille Production: The computerization of the Braille production has been
accepted method in all parts of the world.

2. Talking Books

Talking Books: The Digital recording provides in numerable benefits the
analog recording and therefore digital talking books recorded using PC and
stored on CD are becoming common in the developed world.

Other groups like
aged persons, persons with cerebral palsy, illiterates are also likely to
benefit from DAISY.

Re: [AI] nokia C5

2010-07-09 Thread Satguru Rathi
Hi all,

Can someone post the review of Nokia C5 with Talks?

Would also be interested to know the features and if possible, please post
about its specifications as well since Nokia has not updated their website
yet and this phone is not listed there. Though few other phones like C1 00,
C2 00 and C3, which are yet to arrive in India are listed.

[AI] Request for guidance on copyright law

2010-07-09 Thread Kulkarni, Apoorv
Dear AI Members,
I am currently working in the Accounting Advisory Services (AAS) of KPMG. As a
part of my job, I am required to refer a number of books which more often than
not are not available in soft. Consequently, I have to get them scanned and
convert them using an OCR software like finereader. Unfortunately, I am finding
the cost of conversion to be exorbitant and want to approach my seniors to seek
a solution. In this context, I would like to ascertain if scanning and
converting the books in an accessible format for the exclusive use of the
visually challenged results in infringement of the copyright law in India.
Should the size of the books be relevant, each book is between 1000 to 2000
pages and I plan to convert entire books. It would be especially helpful if the
experienced members could also cite any legal provisions, case laws or relevant
judgments.

Best Regards,
Apoorv Kulkarni

Re: [AI] facing problem in purchasing mutual funds

2010-07-09 Thread niranjanraj urs
One suggestion is to buy MFs in joint name. Since PAN is mandatory
for purchasing MFs, I dont think attestation by notary is essential. A
practical solution could be to getattestation of LTI from your bank
manager.
