Further, it is also unhealthy to jump to any conclusions with the scant information we have here. So, let us look at this objectively. 1. Logically, this ATM card should not be any different from any other ATM card. It won't be a separate card that only works with certain ATM machines providing a limited set of services. 2. the only difference is that this card will have extra embedded information that tells an ATM that this user may require speech. If that ATM has a speech feature, it will be enabled automatically. If there is no speech capabilities in an ATM, it will just offer the standard interface. 3. you will have to use headphones for speech features anyway. It would be foolish to have your bank balance read out by a loud speaker. 4. the problem with having a switch to enable and disable speech is that regular sighted users who may not know about speech features and may complain that they are unable to use certain features or their interaction is different for whatever reason. 5. If SBI are indeed restricting the functionality of these specialised ATM cards like not enabling them to be used in other machines in a normal way, it is the most idiotic solution and needs to be resolved. So, lets channel our energies in obtaining the right information before we start ranting about how differently we are being treated and all that. I don't think there is any harm in SBI requiring users to obtain a slightly modified card for using accessible ATMs as long as the basic functionality of the card is still available. The protesters were released two hours later. The police assured them that temporary provisions would be made immediately to improve the access. The group, led by members of the Federation of Tamilnadu Physically Handicapped Association, was restrained by the police from congregating, said association vice-president T.M.N. Deepak. “We would like to know how a temple that is not completely accessible has been given ISO certification. A High Court order says that every public place should be accessible with aids and appliances and that is not the case with the temple,” said B. Meenakshi of Vidya Sagar. The protesters presented a petition to the police demanding that “within a month the government should constitute a committee with persons with disability to verify the barrier-free universal design features in public places across Tamil Nadu,” Ms. Meenakshi said. Re: [AI] doubts in labbtop and internet
I don't think that there are options available in Windows XP, but you can turn-off your monitor in Vista and Windows 7. Explore your manual to identify the FN key for turning-off the monitor. It's either FN+F5 or FN+F8. Basically there are three options: Your laptop display, Display on both projector and the laptop display and finally, display on projector only. So if you select the third option, the laptop display gets turned-off. Please note that JAWS will not announce those options and you will have to verify it with a sighted person. And one other solution. If you use an external keyboard and select the power option: "When I close the lid, do nothing", your display gets turned-off as soon as you close the lid. Best, Vetri. Understand your anger, but Cal is metro for historical reasons, though it fails to comply with accessibility guidelines. Probably, there is a need to put pressure on the banks in Eastern India and make them implement the RBI guideline. Would also be interested to know the features and if possible, please post about its specifications as well since Nokia has not updated their website yet and this phone is not listed there. [AI] Request for guidance on copyright law
Dear AI Members, I am currently working in the Accounting Advisory Services (AAS) of KPMG. As a part of my job, I am required to refer a number of books which more often than not are not available in soft. Consequently, I have to get them scanned and convert them using an OCR software like finereader. Unfortunately, I am finding the cost of conversion to be exorbitant and want to approach my seniors to seek a solution. In this context, I would like to ascertain if scanning and converting the books in an accessible format for the exclusive use of the visually challenged results in infringement of the copyright law in India. Should the size of the books be relevant, each book is between 1000 to 2000 pages and I plan to convert entire books. It would be especially helpful if the experienced members could also cite any legal provisions, case laws or relevant judgments. Re: [AI] facing problem in purchasing mutual funds
One suggestion is to buy MFs in joint name. Since PAN is mandatory for purchasing MFs, I dont think attestation by notary is essential. A practical solution could be to getattestation of LTI from your bank manager.
