Air India and Jet airways do have concession, I think. But I also think those
prices may yet higher than budget airlines.

You need not worry for quota. Generally you get a seat.

For your information, USB headphones will have sound card built in. so, you
need not to depend upon your internal sound card.

Actually there is no need to stick with xp. Once you gets familiar with
window7 you will surely love it. In essential situations as i face with
umax 4100, you can use xp with a USB head phöe. Remember, there is nothing
that doesn't changes but change itself.

Finally try this.

If you are on XP go to devise manager.

right click on Microsoft UAA driver

Disable it and uninstall it.

recommending it because few Real tech HD drivers are incompatible with
UAA driver which installs by default.

Go to Lenovo support home US site and click the link auto detect link
which will automatically download and install all the required
softwares and drivers according to your model configuration

It will also install the all required patches for running the audio
because its there in lenovo site

Dont worry thats the best laptop you have purchased

When i have purchased the laptop i also first shifted to windows xp

I hope you will not face any problem

Hello umesha and others,
The issue that you’re facing has been reported to me by some other
folks

too.
Interestingly, many folks who have bought the notebooks in recent
times seemed to have experienced this problem.
I’d like to confess that this issue has sounded pretty bizarre to me
when I’ve heard it the first time, but with the frequent such
occurrences i can tell you that you’re not the only ones facing this,
so chill the head out! !

The said issue can arise due to many reasons, including the faulty
hardware, driver compatibility, lose slots, RAM slipup, audio
latency, operating system compatibility, etc.
With so many such diversities, Pointing one straight rectification is
just not possible, unfortunately.
Keeping that in mind, I’d like to list down some of the most preferred
solutions below, which can be tried in order to resolve the said
issue.

Driver compatibility:
In many cases, these kinds of problems occurs when there’s a
compatibility problem with your driver and operating system. Please
ensure that the drivers you are installing on windows xp have “xp”
listed in their recommended system software’s list.
Also, try checking the minimum requirements of your drivers.
Sometimes, the service packs might not be compatible enough, and can
cause the sound freezing or distortedt.
You can try updating your windows to the latest service packs and
patches which should solve the issue.

Sound card:
Most of the modern motherboards now comes with in-built sound cards,
which are wonderful, but not in all the situations.
It has been observed that some sound cards are not properly fixed on
the circuitries and therefore they tent to make issues.
The best way to determine if it’s the problem with the sound card
hardware, please try testing your sound with an external soundcard,
preferably the USB sound card, which is easy to install and use
without making any undesired change.
When you have the additional soundcard installed on your system, don’t
forget to change the defa

[AI] windows 7 tricks and tips

2011-11-21 Thread google mail
Dear all, those who are facing the issues with programs which were designed for
earlier versions of windows seven such as XP, you must try the following:
1. go to start and find the program "run programs made for earlier versions of
windows by search/typing the keyword. wait awhile until windows finds installed
programs and their issues. Under the program's list, select "the program which
reports an issue". important notice!: if you have several versions of the same
program for instance, jaws it would be hectic to select an appropriate. if this
is a case, just do the following: under the programs list, select "not listed"
and browse to that program usually under \program files\. otherwise, go ahead with the following:
after selecting the program, say next. at the next screen, press enter on
"troubleshoot the program" and you will be asked under which version of windows
did this program work. Here I recommend you to select "windows xp service
pack3" and say next. Then, select the check box "program won't install/run
correctly" and press enter on next button and wait until this process completes
and press enter on start the programs... now check it out!.

[AI] Accessing the OCR system launched by the government?

2011-11-21 Thread Eyeway Helpdesk
Hi all

Greetings from Eyeway Helpdesk!

You might be aware that government has released OCR system for Hindi and
Gurumukhi scripts recently. When I visited www.tdil-dc.in, I was asked to
register in order to access the system. After registration and loging in, I
could not find any way to upload the scanned document. In other words, I could
not understand how to use the system.

Could any one of you throgh some light explaining the system from a layman's
prospective and penning down the process from submiting the document to the
system to getting back the OCR document?

[AI] about bsnl landline bill online.

2011-11-21 Thread Singhal, Vivek
Dear Yusuf Bhai,

The Selfcare site of BSNL is a very slow site as it is directly connected to
SAP server of BSNL. It normally takes 10 minutes to open during day time. Some
people have indicated that this site opens fast during early hours because
number of people logged on is limited. Personally it is a very good site as a
lot of BSNL jobs can be accomplished but it is equally bad from VI perspective.
I am using another website for making online payment of BSNL bills. It's the
same site to which Bhawaniji was referring in a previous email
(http://portal.bsnl.in/). One needs to create a free account and register the
landline phone number to it. Subsequently one can pay the bills online. In case
you provide your mobile number and subscribe to SMS alerts then the website
shall send you the SMS regarding posting of bill, reminder about payment of
bill and receipt of payment etc. It's a good site. I normally seek sighted
assistance towards the end of payment cycle when some characters needs to be
inputted based on a graphics image.

In fact in order to work on Selfcare sight I normally ask my sighted colleague
to open it on his computer and perform the activities on my behalf. Any tips
for helping me to work on selfcare independently shall be highly appreciated.

Vivek Singhal,

no, it is just a typing mistake. there is no free lunch! fill the fair

Subject: [AI] Regarding the Blind escort concession in rajdhani and shatabdi

Dear all,
Today I was serfing on indian railways website
http://www.indianrail.gov.in for concessional fare for mumbai rajdhani. I
found a strange thing in the concession combobox on the site. In this
combo, I found the option saying Blind free escort -(BLESRS) 100).
Friends, I got really shocked by seeing such concession. Is it really
free? I am confuse that is it a typing mistake or is it a legitimate
concession? It may be a typing mistake, but how can we seek for
clairification regarding the same?

Thanks and regards,
Rohiet Patil

interesting. Ok,let me introduce myself briefly for many of those who may not

occurred many years ago when i was 25 years old. However,a lot of water has
flown under d bridge since then and currently i run a public relations firm

In CCleaner necessary options are checked by default. If you keep pressing
tab key, you will find a treeview. Use up and down arrow keys to select an
option and press spacebar to check or uncheck it. I did not have to
configure it when I installed it.

Re: [AI] quiry pertaining to income tax exemption

2011-11-21 Thread Amiyo Biswas

download the pdf file for 80U exemption from here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3497977/80U.pdf

According to it, the VI assessee himself is eligible for exemption.
According to 80DD, any assessee is eligible for exemption for his
handicapped dependent. I don't have the order. You can search it online.

1.: to what extent a Bisually Impaired incumbent is entitled to get i t

2.: does a VI incumbent entitled to avil both the concessions under 80 u

relevant documents may kindly be uploaded and provide the link for

Hello dear Yousif sir,

I'd like to tell you that you should not write full or partial station name.
You should search for the stations codes if you don't know them.
Suppose, if I've to find the trains from New Delhi to Bharuch, then I'll not
write New Delhi and Bharuch. I'll simply their stations codes such as: NDLS and
BH
You can search for stations codes at

Hope it helps..

[AI] Fw: [VV] Fw: Helping hands, dangerous or benifitial

2011-11-21 Thread Rohiet A. Patil

Dear all,
I am deliberatly forwarding this mail from the VV list. I think it is a
really nice point to point mail

Hi Rohiet,

Yes, this is a very sad incident. And I understand the plight of that
girl,
as my mobile was also robbed very recently. Although, there was nothing
much

I could do in my case, and I know its not the same situation, but I would
like to share my views with all of you.

Sorry to say, this is something which happens a lot, especially in big
cities. If there are good people, there are bad as well. That's life. And
its not limited to only the visually impaired. Anybody can get robbed.

For us to avoid such incidents, we need to be very cautious and alert of
our

surroundings while traveling.

In my opinion, one can avoid such mishaps by taking care of the following.

1. Be attentive and be aware of the people around. Avoid talking over the
phone or listening to music while traveling.
I do understand in the rush of Mumbai's local trains it is not possible to
do so easily. But may be the ladies were observing this girl from the
train
itself, noticed the things she had and followed her. So, paying attention
to

the surrounding could help.
2. Always follow the right sighted guide technique. When walking with a
guide, never let the guide hold you. Instead, ask the guide to lead, and
you

should hold them with your hand over either their shoulder or near the
elbow. This gives you the flexibility to either hold or leave at anytime
as

you wish.
3. Maintain distance. Whether the guide is a man or a woman, always
maintain

distance when walking with strangers.
4. When a stranger offers you assistance, first decide if you need help.
If
the place is familiar to you and you feel you can manage well, just
decline

them politely. If they still insist, stay firm and keep refusing.
5. If you do accept the help offered, don't just quietly walk with the
guide. Keep talking to them constantly. Ask them questions like What's
their
name, where are they from, what do they do, etc. This allows us to judge
the
kind of person we are walking with. And this interaction is very
important.

But do not get lost in the conversation. Keep being aware of the
surroundings.
6. Hold on tightly to your belongings when walking with a stranger and
stay
alert. Something I always do is, keep the opening side of the zip of my
bag
facing me and not the back, so I would be aware if someone tries to open
it.

7. If you realize that the stranger is taking you the wrong way, just stop
walking and tell them that it is the wrong way. If they still start to
pull
you, then just create a big scene. Scream, shout, or do whatever you can
to
gather a crowd. In a busy place this would not be very difficult. If
nothing

else, use your cane as a weapon.
8. Make sure you are not headed towards a quiet place. Keep moving towards
the crowd.

If we take care of these few minor things, we could definitely avoid such
mishaps from taking place.

These are just a few of my views that I have shared here. I speak from
personal experience. Although I have never faced any problem with any
strangers who have offered me help till date, I always be careful and
follow

the things I have mentioned above.

Would definitely be nice to hear from others as well.

Regards,

Vanessa Pereira.

Friends,

This may be an off topic in the list, but I think this incident was
happened with one of my friend in Mumbai and after that there was a
question in the mind that helping hands are really beneficial or it may
be

painful at some points? I could not reach at the right conclusion so I
thought this topic may be discussed on the list.

After finishing a journey, one of my friends left her train at Scion
railway station in Mumbai and walking on the railway platform. She found
two ladies offering her some help to come out from the railway station.
Both the ladies caught her from both the directions for providing a
helping hand. My friend was silent and started walking with them towards
the exit door. She found that the ladies were trying to take her at the
wrong destinations at the corner of the platform where there

Dear all,
Today I was serfing on indian railways website http://www.indianrail.gov.in for
concessional fare for mumbai rajdhani. I found a strange thing in the
concession combobox on the site. In this combo, I found the option saying Blind
free escort -(BLESRS) 100).
Friends, I got really shocked by seeing such concession. Is it really free? I
am confuse that is it a typing mistake or is it a legitimate concession? It may
be a typing mistake, but how can we seek for clairification regarding the same?

Re: [AI] working with a dueal os system

2011-11-21 Thread Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala
Hi,

Installing multiple operating systems is not a harm as long your
system has enough resources. The trouble creeps up when a visually
challenged person has to select one from the list of installed ones on
the system at the time of booting up as no voice clues are available.
This list appears for 30 seconds on screen and then proceeds to load
the one selected by default if there is no user interaction. Some
calculation of time taken for the list to appear with sighted help
initially may help. The good thing about this list is that it selects
the most recently installed one by default - not sure but I think it
appears at the bottom of the list. Pressing arrow keys helps you
change the selection. It loads the one that you press ENTER on.

I had installed 3 versions of Windows 2000 (Professional, Server and
Advanced Server) on my system years back. I edited the C:\boot.ini
file to change the order of items in the list, the default and timeout
in seconds. Editing this file is advisable only if you are sure of
what you are changing in it. Also the newer operating systems may have
a different way of handling multiple operating systems at boot time, I
haven't explored them yet.

Re: [AI] a small peace of advice

2011-11-21 Thread Srikanth Kanuri
it is not just 3 GB the maximum would be around 4 GB. system can
utilize around 3.1 to 3.5 GB depending on conditions. for Example if
you have shared graphics memory on your board of around 750 MB, i
found windows utilizing around 2.75 GB for normal activity. if you
have dedicated graphic card you can get around 3.3 to 3.5 GB of ram in
a 4 GB stick. on my 32 bit OS of win 7 i could use around 3500 MB out
of 4 GB stick.

look at the below link:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/how-much-ram-will-win7-32-64-bit-address/4420c835-4792-45e7-b8fe-cccec8320c96

Subject: [AI] Information about portable magnifire

Hi friends, I want to perchase portable video magnifire which is
useful for a lowvision just to see any printed text like ticket or any
menu. Last time in Retina convention in New Delhi I saw two portable
magnifire at Karishma stall. However I found such magnifire with other
agencies too. Once I visited at Shroff eye center they also show me
one such device.
But there is much price difference of these magnifire, say for e.g.
Karishma is providing this magnifire for 23,000 Rs, while Eyeshroff
center told me it is for 25,000 Rs. Recently I asked barrier break
technology that for how much they are providing such magnifire, they
told me that they are having two of such video magnifire that is
Compact mini, for 12,000 and Compact plus for 20,000 rupees, only the
difference is of sises. They told me that there is two year
replacement warrantee.
I want you people to throgh some light over it. Please tell me if
anybody is using
any of such magnifire. Please do share your experiences or any other
sourse from where I can enquire more.

Srikanth Sir,

Do you live outside India?

The device is available for around 100 dollars.
15000 is way too much for such a device.
They should at least consider the international prices before
determining the prices for Indian consumers.

Dear Learned members,
I am facing a problem while accessing internet banking. The system goes
slow after logged in. If any transaction is done, it comes out with some
errors. The error is not always same. sometimes, it is java error and
other time it is explorer error. Other websites are working fine.

Please have a look if any idea you have on it.

Re: [AI] Information about portable magnifire

2011-11-21 Thread Vamshi. G
There is a hand held magnifier called IQ which can increase the size
and change the contrast and costs Rs. 25,000. There is another called
Quick Look which can be used for writing also which costs around Rs.
30,000. These are portable devices. There is a doctor at Pune called
Dr. Sathe who manufactures products like these and sells them at a
relatively lower cost. But when he spoke to me, he said they are not
portable.

There is an international organisation called Ocutech which offers
products for low vision people. They have a few dealers in India
also. Just google around and you will find their contact details.

Most importantly, low vision products should not be purchased on the
basis of someone else's opinion or experience. Each person has a
vision condition which needs a specific low vision product. So, never
purchase a low vision product without being evaluated by a low vision
specialist.

Finally try this.

If you are on XP go to devise manager.

right click on Microsoft UAA driver

Disable it and uninstall it.

recommending it because few Real tech HD drivers are incompatible with

[AI] Energy-efficiency labelling for laptops set to gather pace

2011-11-21 Thread Renuka Warriar
Source: http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/article2645262.ece
KOCHI, November 21, 2011
Energy-efficiency labelling for laptops set to gather pace
T. Ramachandran

HCL Infosystems has introduced BEE-labelled laptops

The newly introduced Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) labelling
regime for laptops is set to gain traction in the coming days, with
one more major manufacturer about to adopt it and others getting ready
to follow suit, according to the Manufacturers' Association of
Information Technology (MAIT).

To qualify for the label, BEE Star version 1, laptops have to meet
specified energy efficiency parameters. BEE is a statutory body under
the Ministry of Power.

As is usual during the introduction of a labelling regime,
manufacturers are given time for adopting it voluntarily before it
becomes mandatory. It is the voluntary phase that is on in the case of
laptops and BEE is expected to come up with a schedule for covering
laptops, desktops and office-automation products for mandatory
compliance, said MAIT president Alok Bharadwaj.

In an email interview to The Hindu , he said HCL Infosystems had
introduced BEE-labelled laptops. One other manufacturer is next in
line, and “other brands will also introduce BEE labelling in due
course of time.”

The standard is based on the Energy Star programme of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. The
programme was meant to help consumers identify and buy
energy-efficient products “that offer savings on energy bills without
sacrificing performance, features, and comfort.” Computers must meet
the required standards in different operating modes — such as standby
and sleep — to qualify for the Energy Star label.

“In the absence of BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) standard for
desktops and notebooks, this standard follows the version 5.01
specification of the Energy Star program for computers,” says the BEE
technical document that lays down energy efficiency parameters for
laptops.

Two purposes

Dr. Bharadwaj said the labelling had two purposes: to ensure that
manufacturers and brands conform to norms appropriate to the Indian
energy conservation setting; and to help customers make informed
decisions while buying laptops.

Asked why BEE-labelled laptops had not gained such a visibility as the
BEE rating system for electrical appliances, he replied: “Labelling
decision for laptops is a very recent one and started only on March
30, 2011. We will see a lot of acceleration in the coming days when
the consumer will understand the benefits of energy labelling.”

However, the BEE star rating system for electrical appliances
indicates a specific level of energy efficiency for a product — the
higher the rating in terms of the number of stars, the more
energy-efficient it is. “Unlike in the case of other electrical
appliances, this category [for laptops] at present does not deal with
star ratings.” As of now, it is an ‘elementary' label indicating that
the laptop adheres to the specified energy-efficiency norms.

“As India's growth catches on and the industry grows, a large number
of devices will be used in households and offices, which will create a
huge demand for energy. Taking this into account, the BEE, along with
the MAIT, is creating norms for all categories of IT products,
starting with the laptops,” he said.

Re: [AI] Helping hands, dangerous or benifitial

I also have had the same experience. Before 5 years, I and my blind friend
were at Delhi raiway station at 10 pm. One person told us that he will show
the bus stop. Unfortunetaly, he took us in the dark place. But we understood
his plan. We kept our bags and bit him severely till to the other people

Friends,

This may be an off topic in the list, but I think this incident was
happened with one of my friend in Mumbai and after that there was a
question in the mind that helping hands are really beneficial or it may be
painful at some points? I could not reach at the right conclusion so I
thought this topic may be discussed on the list.

After finishing a journey, one of my friends left her train at Scion
railway station in Mumbai and walking on the railway platform. She found
two ladies offering her some help to come out from the railway station.
Both the ladies caught her from both the directions for providing a
helping hand. My friend was silent and started walking with them towards
the exit door. She found that the ladies were trying to take her at the
wrong destinations at the corner of the platform where there was no public
at all. She was desperately trying to take someone's help, but she could
not found anyone. Both the ladies were still forcing her to walk with them
at the corner of the platform.

Finally, one of lady has managed to open her hand-bag and took two mobile
phones and a huge amount out from her pocket and then she allowed her to
manage with her own. Till now, my friend was not aware about her losts.
When she reached at home, she was very shocked and was just crying to be a
helpless girl.

She have lodged several complaints to the area police station, but still
helpless to get any kind of support from the police.

Friends, this incident was took place before a month, but the question
which generate in the mind that how can we trust on any unknown person
before accepting his/her kind support or assistance? It may supportive,
co-operative, but it can be dangerous and painful also at some points.

Please throw some lights on this topic as it is very important and helpful
for those visually challenged persons especially the girls who are
frequently travel alone in the big cities and towns.

[AI] Fwd: [The vOICe] Re: [The vOICe] Re: Mit den Ohren sehen – die Hörbrille: Pranav and The vOICe on German television

2011-11-21 Thread soloman s

Subject: [The vOICe] Re: [The vOICe] Re: Mit den Ohren sehen – die
Hörbrille: Pranav and The vOICe on German television
To: seeingwithso...@freelists.org

Here's the google translate english version of that page - hopefully
relatively accurate, but sounds nice enough, and nicely interpreted from
sides of both Pranav and the researcher:
---english translation---
See with your ears - the hearing glasses
Caption: Pranav Lal wearing his hearing glasses: it helps him find his way
into the café].
It sounds like a noise: a chirping, squeaking and rattling in the second.
Doch dieser Lärm hilft Pranav Lal zu sehen: den Kuchen auf seinem Teller,
das Glas auf dem Tisch, seinen Gesprächspartner, der ihm in einem Londoner
Cafe gegenüber sitzt. But this noise helps Pranav Lal to see: the cake on
his plate, the glass on the table, his interlocutor, who is sitting across
from him in a London cafe. Der 32jährige Inder Pranav ist von Geburt an
blind - aber er kann paradoxerweise mit den Ohren sehen. The 32 year old
Indian Pranav is blind from birth - but it may paradoxically see with your
ears. Denn eine erstaunliche technische Erfindung erweitert seine Sinne. For
an amazing invention extends its technical sense. Er trägt eine sogenannte
Hörbrille. He carries a so-called hearing glasses.
in Töne The hearing glasses turn images into sounds
Caption: The computer translates the camera images into sounds].
The system was developed, called "The vOICe", by Peter Meijer, a physicist
and inventor from the Netherlands.
The glasses and all accessories has Pranav but worried about low cost and
self-assembled.
In the nose bridge of the spectacles, a small camera is integrated.
It transmits live images to a small laptop that he carries in a backpack.
There, a computer program converts the images into sounds in order to Pranav
then listening through headphones.

The principle is simple: the image is scanned by the software from left to
right and also the stereo sound in headphones travels from left to right.
The higher up in the picture, a structure is, the higher the pitch.
The brighter the object, the louder.
For simple objects this is even for the novice to learn quickly.
A complex scene sounds to the untrained ear, but like a tonal mess.
Pranav can distinguish the sounds of glasses but now routinely recognize
many objects and not just immediately, but actually seeing.
For nearly ten years, the 32-year old already trained with the glasses.
He is so familiar with it, that he not only indoors, but can even orient
outdoors.

Research with the hearing glasses
Caption: trial participants at the University of Dusseldorf train with
everyday objects].
The reports of blind Hörbrillennutzern as Pranav Lal fascinate Professor
Petra Störig.
At the Institute for Experimental Psychology at the University of
Düsseldorf, she explores what happens when two senses - connect with each
other through the hearing glasses - hearing and seeing.
Störig operates with both blind and non-blind trial with people who are
blindfolded.

At the start of training with the hearing glasses are simple exercises: The
subjects must learn to locate a flashing lamp shades only.
Much more demanding then the recognition of everyday objects.
The subjects trained for three weeks to identify plates, hair brushes, cups
and the like on a sound.
Some people are even trying for the whole three weeks continuously
blindfolded.
Some subjects reported here that over time they always have the impression
of seeing things dimly - and that, although they only hear the translation
of the glasses.
The brain adapts
Caption: In the brains of the subjects are Sehareale active, although they
look nothing].
The learning progress of the trial participants also found in the brain?
An investigation is to determine the magnetic resonance tomograph.
At the beginning and end of the three-week training phase, the brain
activity is measured while their sounds are played, recorded with the
hearing glasses.
The brain activity then is to reveal how they process this information.

The results of the study provides the first evidence that users actually
begin the hearing glasses to see with the ears.
After three weeks of training is distinguished from clear that the brain
areas are active volunteers now, the vision usually are responsible for -
but while they do not see but only hear.
Still, the research group of Professor Störig not identify what it depends
on whether a subject had a Sehareale only for the analysis of sounds begins
and when it becomes a real visual impression.

Can you find the phone model when you navigate through the communication
centre window? If you can't, the phone is not connected properly or not
detected by the pc suite.

[AI] About moving the mails into the trash or span.

2011-11-21 Thread Phen Varghese
Dear all,

How are you?
My question is Can you move the mails you want to delete or move into
span in a easier way?
Like selecting all of the mails which you want to throwh from your inbox.
Is there any keystroke to select the check boxes other than checking
them by going to each mail?
Hope to hear from you soon.

With regards,

Phen Varghese
