Subject: [AI] A reservation question under quota

Hi all,

I am trying to book a ticket from Chennai to Howra for 12th of April
and there are seats available under handicapped quota. But for some
reason booking officers at the counter seem to be looking at general
quota only and thus telling my friend that no ticket is available on
that day. Has anyone on the list encountered this before and if so,
how to handel it? I would appriciate your quick response since this is
farely urgent for me to face an interview at Central University of
Bihar on the 15th of next month. Tickets are being fast sold out.

Vetri.

Hi Rajesh and Harish, Unfortunately it didn't work actually and many
booking clurks here in Tamilnadu are completely unaware of that and
henceforth I had to settle for a WL ticket at the moment. But
something needs to be done and I will explore proper contacts within
railway to take this matter to their attention.

Hello sir,
If you want more space such as 5gb of google drive then you can also use
wuala.

It is very accessible if set to details view mode.
I am using it without any issues.

Hello sir,
If you want more space such as 5gb of google drive then you can also use
wuala.
It is very accessible if set to details view mode.
I am using it without any issues.

Re: [AI] science studies

2013-03-27 Thread Kartik Sawhney
Hi,

I have just completed class XII in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
this year, and am now awaiting the results. With the new guidelines by
the MSJE now in place which allow a lab assistant to take observations
on your behalf, you may want to check with the university/college you
are interested in to check if it is willing to accomodate you.
Unfortunately, I do not really expect a positive response in the first
go. You may have to convince them quite a bit (I had to convince the
IITs for engineering, and have not succeeded so far). Trying, though,
will not be a bad idea. Who knows.

All the very best!

Re: [AI] Formula required to caliculate percentage.

2013-03-27 Thread Mahesh Narasimhan
Hi Srinivas,

Percent means "out of 100". This means, if you want to find the
percent of 23 on 25, (23/25)*100 = 92%. That means the score out of
100 is 92. Similarly, if you want to find the percent of 15 on 20,
then it is (15/20)*100 = 75%. Meaning that the score out of 100 is 75.

We find the percentage of the series so that our calculation boils
down to single base. Here base means 100.

Hope I could satisfy your query.

Re: [AI] Formula required to caliculate percentage.

2013-03-27 Thread Mahesh Narasimhan
Dear Srinivas,

I am forced to assume that the data which you have is of Individual
Series. Since the data is from A1 to F1, firstly you need to calculate
the total of the series and the formula to calculate total is
=SUM(A1:F1) and press Enter Key. Calculate the total in G1 cell.
Now to calculate the percentage of the series, go to A2 and use the formula,
=(A1/value of G1)*100 and press Enter Key. Here the value of G1 means
the numeric value of the cell G1.

If you want to copy the formula to different cells also, then come to
cell A2 and copy by using Control+C and by using Shift Key and Right
Arrow, you come to F2 and paste by using Control+V and press Enter
Key.

Example: Before the : sign is the cell reference and after the : sign
is the numeric value of the cell.
A1: 22, B1: 37, C1: 29, D1: 41, E1: 35, F1: 26. Total from A1 to F1 is 190.
Come to A2 cell and use the formula =(A1/190)*100 and press Enter Key.
The numeric value of A2 is the percentage of the series. Then come to
A2 cell and copy and select by pressing the Shift Key and right arrow
till F2 and paste and press Enter Key.

Note the total of the percentage of the series will be 100. Just test
it. Come to cell G2 and use the formula =Sum(A2:F2) and press Enter
Key and the numeric value of G2 will be 100.

Hope its clear now.

Dear Moderator
I still think that the bifurcation of the list is wrong, artificial and
pointless.
Many people agree with me but wont voice their concerns because it will hurt
your feelings.
I hope better sens prevails and we stop dividing when we know that
technology between mobiles and computers are merging and dynamic.
I know that many people have been forced to join the other list because they
want the information. On taking a poll of the users of the second list you
will find that they rather have been only part of the original accessindia.
You may justify your actions on the grounds of practicality but even that
arguement fails if taken to its logical conclusion.
You are the moderator so I will not argue further.

 hi,
i don't think these music softwares r compatible with our screen
readers. may be i'm wrong, but i had tried it a few years back,
 without success.
i'm actually hoping that since apple is very blind friendly, we might
be able to use logic on a mack with some result. but i haven't gotten
around to trying it. will explore that possibility and get back to u
 sometime.
in any case if your not doing any serious professional editing, you
could try gold wave or some such software more jaws friendly.
 best,
 Shireen.

Re: [AI] Relevance Accessindia mobile Mailing List

2013-03-27 Thread Syed Imran
Changing the subject line to "Relevance of Accessindia Mobile Mailing list".

The idea of creating and maintaining a separate sister mailing list for
mobile phones and tablets only to control the traffic of emails on
accessindia in my humble opinion is not a healthy choice simply because
mobile phones, smart watches, tablets, netbooks, TV boxes, media players,
gaming devices, Laptops, all in ones, desktops, servers and a whole lot of
gadgets , whether outgoing or upcoming have a lot in common in terms of
their usage and operations. Hence whatever discussions go on in either of
the mailing lists are quite overlapping and are related to one and another.
This pretty much confuses people whether to post on accessindia mailing list
or accessindia mobile mailing list. So I think even though the earlier way
was not the best way, it was somehow okayish.
It is quite natural to find our mailboxes flooded with innumerable posts,
appointments, requests and emails and it is going to increase in future so
the wisest thing is to apply rules and filters to your mailboxes and
strictly refrain from sending unwanted and inappropriate emails rather than
complaining about the traffic from any mailing list for that matter.

2013-03-27 Thread Mohib Rafay
Hi listers, my name is Benazir Mohib Anwar Rafel. I could be able to
join this mailing list after continual request, for which I will be
highly indebted to the moderator. Friends I am partially sighted. My
home town is District Moradabad in U.P. I am student of law, I
completed my 5 year B.A.LL.B from Aligarh Muslim University in 2009,
thereafter I joined JNU for M.Phil in International Legal
Studies/Masters in International Law 2009-2011. Presently I am in
final year in Masters of Law from Faculty of Law University of Delhi.
I have cleared UGC JRF in the subject "Law" recently.
I am interested to learn about the assistive technology and all

me on a key administrative post through such compititions.

Re: [AI] earliest help needed in choosing android phone

2013-03-27 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi all,

I echo what Kanchan and other members have said on this issue. The division
of the list is artificial and creates an unnecessary burden for the end-user
of the list. Mobile technology is a crucial tool for the blind and is here
to stay. In addition, we have convergence. Ever since I got my iPhone, I
find that I am using it increasingly to replace my laptop when I am on the
go. I can view attachments, handle e-mail efficiently and do limited word
processing. The iPhone is my tool of choice in meetings.

Finally, I have met several members in person who have stated that they have
learnt much by reading posts on the list. They may not respond but are
passive consumers of information.

something needs to be done and I will explore proper contacts within

[AI] Comment in Excel

2013-03-27 Thread Apoorv Kulkarni
Hello,

Let me break my reply in 2 parts. 1) inserting comments, and 2) reading
comments:

1) Inserting comments

Step 1: go to the cell where you wish to insert comment

Step 2: press APPLICATION key on your keyboard to bring up the application
menu. If you don't have a dedicated applications key, press SHIFT + F10.

Step 3: go down the menu till you find the "Insert Comment" option and press
ENTER

Step 4: Type your comment and press ESCAPE

2) Reading Comments in Excel

Step 1: Go to the JAWS Quick Setting - Excel dialog box by pressing INSERT +
V.

Step 2: type "comment" in the edit box and go down till you find "Comment
detection"

Step 3: Press F6 and check the box for turning the comment detection on and
press ESCAPE. Checking this option will make JAWS alert you whenever the
active cell has a comment.

Step 4: To get a list of cells in the worksheet containing comments, press
CTRL+SHIFT+APOSTROPHE. This will bring up a dialog box which will contain a
list of all cells containing comments.

Step 6: If you are in a cell containing comments and you wish to read the
comment, press ALT+SHIFT+APOSTROPHE.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Apoorv

[AI] Earliest help needed in choosing android phone

2013-03-27 Thread ss sarfudeen
Dear all,

I also completely agree with Kanchan and all others who have raised
similar concerns about the Accessindia mobile mailing list. I am of
the opinion that mobile phones and tablets also to a great extent
constitute the developments in technology for the vision impaired
community in accordance with the guidelines of this list. So the
argument of having a separate list for the topic mentioned above does
not have a strong and a valid base.

In addition, following mails on two list is not only cumbersome but
also time consuming. Slightly differing from Kanchan's view, I wish to
state that the moderator could have considered taking a polling using
the members of the original list before making a decision. However,
the decision could be overturned even now if the moderator prefers to.

Regards,

Sultana

[AI] Opportunity to be a part of international network of disabled persons

2013-03-27 Thread Prashant Ranjan Verma
INDY (International Network for Disabled Youth) is internet-based global
network for young disabled people aged 16-30 to network, skill and knowledge
share, created through an Oxfam International Youth Programme (OIYP)
project.

What is the aim of the project?

The aim of the project is to set up an internet-based forum/network where
disabled young people can share and discuss the issues affecting them and
their experiences of being disabled in their respective countries.

We are an interactive space where YOU can share your campaigns, work, and
experience to support and empower one another to be active within your
communities, potentially becoming leaders.

The site aims to provide a network for disabled young leaders and useful
connections to people working on similar issues, and we hope offer user-led
web based seminars and training around a variety of topics.

We hope that by setting up this network, it will empower disabled young
people to realise the value and importance of their perspective as young
people, and that it gives them an opportunity to develop their voice, to
become aware of international leadership opportunities, and to be on a more
equal footing with their non-disabled peers.

What issues does this project seek to address?

The issue this project seeks to address is the lack of space to develop and
share the skills disabled young people need to get their voices and issues
heard on an international stage. There are many disabled young people,
including yourselves, working in their respective countries around
disability rights and achieving equality.

What we would like from you?

YOUR INPUT!

As stated, the site is user-led and as such, relies on your input and
contributions to make it a success. Feel free to share blog posts, photos
and videos and to comment on others' posts. This is an opportunity to share
your experiences, express your views, and network with others - so take
advantage of it!
