Re: [AI] REFUSAL OF MY RESUME, AS I AM A VISUALLY CHALLENGED PERSON

2013-10-14 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hi,

This is a problem which every visually impaired person has been forced
to confront at least once in his or her life..
There are a few ways of tackling this:
Firstly, we should be able to portray our blindness in a positive manner..
The battle to compete in a world which has essentially been designed
to cater to the needs of the sighted greatly enhances our
problem-solving skills.. Employers are always looking for employees
who have good problem-solving skills and the ability to think out of
the box, so we should try to use this advantage to the best of our
ability..
Secondly, we should be prepared to give convincing answers in order to
address their key concerns. I don't think we should blame an employer
for having some valid and justified concerns. This can be done by
giving examples of other successful visually impaired people in that
field, enumerating our previous accomplishments and sharing
constructive methods of confronting various impediments that might
arise in future.
All the aforementioned actions reflect one's sincerity, genuine
interest in getting the job and determination which are all highly
sought-after qualities.

2013-10-14 Thread Vivekananda Doddamani.
yes it is true Ms.Pallavi, I too belong to Karnataka, and had finished
PG in Sociology from Kuvempu University in 1999 but the attitude of
politicians & University Staff I was forced to leave Karnataka in
search of Job, for the past 14 years I am staying in Delhi working in
central government as clerical job, what I think is bangalore is most
developed city but in case of Visually Impaired persons it is the most
backward city & karnataka is very least developed state for blinds.

advance cords like 7th cords, 9th cords, and rpg cords.

Re: [AI] listeners club audio magazine english

2013-10-14 Thread Ashik
You are right, Chandrashekhar. But you can divide the files into two folders
and zip them. Thereafter you can upload them to sendspace. The person who
downloads it can put all the files in one folder. Thus the problem can be
solved.

Re: [AI] face book

2013-10-14 Thread jerinjose84

Dear Aravind,

If you are using the mobile version, type the mail ID or the user name of the
intended person in the second edit box in the home page which is followed by
the search button. Press enter on the search button and if the results include
pages and posts, press enter on the link "people" which appears next to the
search button when the results are displayed. Now the FB user registered with
the searched mail ID/user ID is displayed. Add the person whom you are
searching for. The full name of the person may also help to find the person.
You can get your friends from the list of suggested friends as well.

With best regards,

Re: [AI] A Question about Itunes!

2013-10-14 Thread Raaj
Download Itunes from here.

http://www.apple.com/in/itunes/download/

I don't know about others, but I buy/download apps from my I phone itself.
While I'm at home and while my Iphone is connected with wifi.

As per my opinion, Itunes is for sinking or backing up our stuff with our
computer/laptop.

Of course you can also buy apps via Itunes. But as far as I've noticed, the
download speed is being lesser than while we're downloading it through our
Iphone.

Signing up is not a big deal. It's like usual email sign up. Use one of your
email id's for apple or creat an email specifically one and use that id for
apple purchases alone.

Regards.

Sure that many of you are using itunes to buy and listen to music from the
Itunes stores.

Need guidance in

1. Finding and downloading the appropriate version of the Itunes
software to be used on Windows 7 in a 64bits scenario.

2. Next, how do I buy the music.

Any kind of advice is appreciated.

Re: [AI] A Question about Itunes!

2013-10-14 Thread Arjun Malhotra
Hi sir
You can install latest version of iTunes, apple suggests that you use
Windows eyes with iTunes. How ever you can use jaws with it.
Accessibility is good enough with jaws. Have not tried NVDA yet. You
can brows iTunes on your I device and can buy music from their. You
can listen the preview and can download. I have not tried iTunes on PC
for downloading music. I use it for sinking and backup purpus. In
order to download music, you need to creat an apple ID. Log in with
your apple ID, provide your credit card details and download apps and
music from apple app store and iTunes respectively. If you need any
help regarding iPhones you can ask me.

Re: [AI] A Question about Itunes!

2013-10-14 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi George,

Get hold of the fs cast for November and December 2012. They discuss the new
iTunesinterface. You can navigate iTunes without a problem though it
involves a significant amount of tabbing. What kind of music are you looking
for? The process in general is quite simple. You search for what you want,
activate the search result and hit the "buy" button.

I do not have too much experience in buying music since I have not found
anything that I listen to in the Indian music store so cannot help you
further.

[AI] Nagpur students create hi-tech 'eyes'

Nagpur students create hi-tech 'eyes' to help blind people
The writer has posted comments on this articlePayal

Times of India

NAGPUR: What are the things most difficult for the visually-impaired? Walking
without bumping into things, reaching their desired location without help,
locating objects of every day use and reading. While there may be devices that
can help in one or the other of these tasks, a unit that can help in all of
them in an easy way would be much more helpful.

Third year students of Visvesvaraya National Institute of
Technology
(VNIT) Akshay Khatri, Harshal Wankhede and Kartikey Totewar, thought of
solving all these problems with a single device. That is how they came up with
their blind navigation system consisting of three android applications and an
embedded device. The handheld device which is the size of a small notebook
consists of ultrasonic sensors and vibrators that help avoid obstacles. One of
the apps also makes use of coloured bands to identify specific objects.

"It started when our seniors, Rohan Thakkar, Sachin Bharambe and Harsharanga
Patil, suggested that we work on a project that would be socially relevant.
They gave us the idea of an integrated system. We noticed that despite the high
number of eye donations, several people remain without sight," said Wankhede.
The team also came across some statistics from World Health
Organisation
 ( WHO)
according to which there are 285 million visually impaired people worldwide, 39
million are blind and 246 million have low vision.

"Our aim was to make something to help blind people cope with the difficulties
they face. So, we observed their lives and listed their most common problems,"
said Khatri. Over a period of four months, the three mechanical engineering
students got together and built the entire system. The prototype cost them only
Rs 3,000, which would come down further if mass produced.

Khatri was working on a summer project in Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay
where he worked on the machine. Most of the basic work was done in the SINE
laboratory of the institute equipped with 3-D printer and laser cutting machine
that helped in fabrication. The programming and circuit designing was then done
at VNIT campus by the three.

"We only wish more engineering students would try doing projects that are more
socially relevant. Also, it would be good if there could be more original
projects. After all, why keep redesigning and remaking things already in
existence," asked Totewar.

Even while making the device, they faced some problems to keep it
cost-effective as well as maintaining its quality and usability. The three are
now trying to improve the prototype by doing pilot studies. After these studies
succeed, it would be improved and redesigned to make it more user-friendly.

INFOGRAPHIC

A VISIONARY DEVICE IN THE MAKING?

Here's the lowdown on the blind navigation system.

HOW IT WORKS

* The system consists of an embedded hand-held device and three android
applications.

* The device is portable and easy to hold, much like a walking stick. Two
ultrasonic sensors on the front face of the device help detect obstacles.

* Depending upon the location of the obstacle, the motors vibrate with
amplitude inversely proportional to the distance of the obstacle. Depending
upon the region of the obstacle, whether the obstacle lies in region 1, 2, or
3, respective motors vibrate

* The third ultrasonic sensor stays horizontal, so if there is a footpath or a
staircase the first and fourth vibrator motor vibrate simultaneously, whereas
if there is a pothole, the fourth vibration motor vibrates.

* For the reading application, the camera on the android phone can be pointed
to the text to be read. It extracts text from the image being captured and
speaks it out. It takes 5 consecutive frames, and develops a single best string
based on these frames and speaks that out.

* For searching required objects, the camera can be pointed anywhere in a room.
Coloured bands are put on the objects and the object assigned to a particular
marker can be entered in the android app based on which it speaks what object
has been detected.

* For navigation, the desired destination is entered using the speak
destination button. Then it calculates the path to the destination from the
current location of the user as it has already detected the current location
using GPS. Once the speak direction button is pressed, it speaks the first
direction to the destination. After this it

[AI] A Corporate Social Responsibility more capacious

2013-10-14 Thread avinash shahi
The private sector also needs to adopt a corporate disability policy
for inclusion of the differently abled in the workforce.
By Usha Rao
The writer, a veteran journalist formerly with 'The Indian Express',
writes on development issues
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/a-csr-more-capacious/1182748/0
There are an estimated 3,000 NGOs or civil society organisations
working with people with various disabilities in the country. There
is, however, no clarity on the number of differently abled — estimates
vary from 2.19 per cent of the population (Census 2001) to World Bank
and WHO figures of 10 per cent of the population in developing
countries. This is a huge human resource whose potential needs to be
tapped. With a broad spectrum of disabilities, this is also a sector
that needs a lot of monetary and moral support to make them equal
partners in development.

However, the new Companies Act seems to have left out disabilities
from the mandatory 2 per cent CSR spending of corporation whose net
worth is over Rs 500 crore, or those making a profit of over Rs 5
crore a year. It could, however, merely be a listing omission, because
marginalised groups have been included.

The National Trust for Disabilities is lobbying for the inclusion of
disabilities as a separate category. Though the government has been
steadily increasing its budget for disabilities, since it is a state
subject, the responsibility of caring for this segment lies with the
states. The brunt of caring, nurturing and promoting those with
disabilities lies with civil society. Since disability is not a
standalone issue but a multi-sectoral, cross-cutting one, hopefully it
will be possible to access CSR even before its inclusion as a separate
entity.

As Poonam Natrajan, who heads the National Trust, points out, people
with disabilities need the same resources as non-disabled people, in
terms of schooling, livelihood or residential facilities. They need
reasonable accommodation and specific supports. They also need a
barrier-free environment. Above all, they need a ramping up of
attitudes. People need to include disabled people in all institutions.
The accommodations and specific supports may cost a bit, but they are
reasonable amounts. So, supporting people with disabilities is more
about attitude than money.

One problem is that most NGOs work for specific disabilities. This
leads to a kind of a specialisation, perhaps even a ghettoisation. Of
late, organisations for disabled persons that work across disabilities
have been coming up. However, even here, intellectual and development
disabilities, as well as other neurological disabilities and mental
illnesses, get left out.

The bigger problem is getting CSR support for the challenged in rural
areas, where a sizeable population lives, often cutoff from schooling,
health and other facilities available in urban centres. In these
areas, they have little to no access to government programmes. Most of
the funding comes from foreign donors, unless there is a company
adjacent to a rural area. Most work in rural areas focuses on
education, water and sanitation. It is important that such programmes
be inclusive, responsive and sensitive to the needs of persons with
disabilities.

Corporations involved with disabilities per se include ITC, Infosys,
Mphasis, Ashok Leyland, Lemon Tree Hotels, Engineers India Limited,
ONGC, SAIL, Ascendas and Wipro. CII and FICCI also have included
disability in CSR. The Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust in Delhi, which has
been running an integrated school for the able and challenged since
1981, gets sporadic support for various events.

Getting jobs for the differently abled has been a major challenge
despite the 3 per cent reservation mandated by the 1995 Persons with
Disabilities Act in identified government jobs. The reservation is
never fulfilled. Recently, the Supreme Court ruled that the 3 per cent
reservation has to be earmarked across Group A, B, C and D posts in
entities established by or owned and controlled by Central, state
governments and local authorities. In three months, vacancies have to
be computed and posts for disabled identified.

As far as the private sector is concerned, the act suggested
incentives to ensure that persons with disabilities comprised at least
5 per cent of the workforce. Subsequently, the Centre announced an
incentive policy, but it is not clear how many corporations took up
the government's offer. However, recently, the minister for social
justice and empowerment, Kumari Selja, wrote to the minister of
corporate affairs, Sachin Pilot, to ask the private sector to adopt a
corporate disability policy for the inclusion of the differently abled
in their workforce. It's heartening to hear of several differently
abled people getting jobs due to their excellence and hard work.
Employing such people cannot be claimed as CSR. Companies such as
Infosys, Mphasis, Vinyas Innovative Technologies Pvt Ltd and IBM are
equal opportunity employers and have employ

Re: [AI] need help about booking railway tickit.

2013-10-14 Thread mukesh jain
hello,
to avail the service of IRCTC, first you need to create your profile on
www.irctc.co.in

you need to provide all your information like user name, residence
address, your account details, details of your identity proofs such
as, pan card number valid email address to receive the booked ticket
information, your chosen password to login etc.

after creating these formalities, login with your user details and
once the user management page gets open, you will land to the home
page on which you can type your desired combination of source and
destination station, choose the date and quota field and hit enter on
find trains button. on the nexxt screen, you will be presented the
list of the trains matching for your selected jourbey. please note
that here itself you can book the tickets by choosing the train, and
class. doing so, you will be presented the availability status for the
selected train. you have to click on the book button to proceed with
actual booking like filling up your passenger information such as,
name, age, seat preference, id proof details in case of tatakal etc.

please note that this is the service named by them as "plan my travel"
which is not accessible with the screen reader such as jaws at list.
but one good advantage is that you can click on the links presented
for trains and doing so you will land on to the train schedule for
respective train where you can know the train no., source and
destination station code. once you get to know about these
information, you can use the service "quick book" offered by them
which is fully accessible except the capcha code.

to make the payment for your booked ticket, you should have the net
banking facility or any valid debet card, credit card of any
nationalise banks. if you have the same, choose your appropriate
payment method and fill up your details as and when asked on the
screen such as, if you are the user of net banking of any bank, choose
your bank from the list and press enter on quick book button. doing
this, you will be automatically taken to your bank and once you are
redirected to your bank, fill in the details such as, your user name
and password and confirm the details of your transaction.

once your payment is processed successfully by your bank to the
merchant website IRCTC, you will be able to see the ticket on the next
screen and receive the sms on your register mobile/or the mobile
number given by you at the time of booking the ticket. you can carry
this sms with you while travelling. it indicates that you need not
take the physical print copy with you while performing the journey.
if you still desire, can take the print using the option print ticket.

hope this might be of some help. do get back if you have any further doubts.
