Folks,

I use Windows7 with Jaws 13. When I want to change page settings in
Wordpress, the application mode turns on. Jaws doesn't read anything and I
have no choice but close the page. Is there a way of turning it off?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [AI] Giving Presentations: Checking visibility of text on screen and scroling accordingly?

2012-04-15 Thread Abdul Razique Khan
Hi Amar,

Well I'm not aware of any feature in Jaws as such, but I guess there's one
in Dolphin Supernova, wherein the text at the cursor location gets
highlighted. Talking about an alternative method for Jaws users, what I
usually do is highlight the text I am referring to, which makes it easy for
the sighted person to locate the text on the screen. This may not be a very
good idea when it comes to delivering formal presentations though.

Warm Regards,
Abdul

Subject: [AI] Giving Presentations: Checking visibility of text on screen
and scroling accordingly?

Dear Accessindians,

I am refering to a situation where the screen reader is able to read
the content of screen, though not necessarily the content of screen is
visible to a sighted person unless we scrole down or up according to
the place of the text in the document.

It is also a fact that visibility of the content on any screen depends
on the size of the screen.

It becomes important when giving any presentation, or when showing
anything (web page) or (pdf) on screen to sighted person, to make sure
that the particular text / column you are talking about is in focus on
screen and is available for them to view.

Is there any feature in Jaws to see whether the text which you are
talking about is visible on screen currently or not, and whether you
need to scrole accordingly or not?

Or, can we define the size of screen in Jaws so that when in a
document the matter reaches that defined size, Jaws alerts you to
scrole down?

Using jaws curser and any feature associated with it is not a comfortable
idea.
Can anybody suggest any workaround if the feature doesn't exist?

Looking forward for healthy discussion.

Regards

Ah yes. That would work since you are converting the text to an image and
then back to text. chuckle

A more efficient process is to decrypt the file and read it in Adobe
Acrobat

if your messages are in ur phone memory, then these can be copy
easyly, just use pc suite and go to your phone using nokia phone

all content there and paste anyware to your hd.
if messages are in your memory card, then there are no any ways to
trak those messages i guess.
well if you want to format your phone, and have messages to your
phone, then using the backup option could be the best solution.

Re: [AI] accessible questionnaire draft for VI

2010-05-05 Thread Abdul Razique Khan
Hello mam,

Here are a couple of methods to collect data through questionnaires which I
know.

1. You can create a questionnaire through google forms. Its a really cool
Google docs feature, wherein, you can create and mail the questionnaires to
the people you want to, And once they fill in the questionnaire and click
on the submit button, the data is systematically arranged in the google docs
spreadsheet, which can be imported to your hard disk as an excel file. The
best way to collect data as far as I know, but as far as the creation of the
forms/questionnaire is concerned, its not very accessible with Jaws. You
need sighted assistance in some places to create the questionnaire.

2. Another way of doing it is, using the form toolbar in MS Word. This is an
easier way of creating the questionnaire, but its a bit more work for the
people filling it if you compare it to the earlier option. You may also have
a hard time arranging the data in systematic order. Anyways, these were my
opinions, and if you want, I can give you a guide which would help you to
create questionnaires in MS Word.

Hope this helps,
Abdul

please guide me how to prepare such a questionnaire in word so that
it is easy for VI friends to answer question with ease and quickly.
1. should it be in ms word only or any other?
2. how should yes/ no questions be kept and how should respondents

3. how can multiple choice questions be answered by VI friends with
ease and least discomfort?
4. how should VI friends be able to answer and tick more than one

your help, suggestions, and guidance would be highly appreicated.
please keep them simple and easy to implement for me.

according to me, the format of questions given in selection exams are

project. Could I request those people who have a good command over
hindi to help the team translate the site from English into Hindi.
Along with the help of volunteers they have already launched the site
in turkish, spanish and arabic. They are looking forward to complete
the translation at the earliest, so that they can launch the Hindi
version soon.

I hope some volunteers will come forward. Everyone who is interested,
please send an e-mail to Janani at janani.bar...@inclusiveplanet.com
or you can also get in touch with me, I shall in turn ask them to get
in touch with you.

Hope you can spare some of your time for this worthwhile cause!

Regards,

Abdul

2010-04-16 Thread Abdul Razique Khan
Hi folks,

Feels great to write to the list after a long time. I hope everyone's doing
good. Friends, for quite a long time I have seen people posting mails regarding
the requirement of important circulars, orders and provisions which could
benefit the persons with disability. So, I thought why not to upload the

have access to them anytime they are in need of these documents. I have put up
these circulars and orders in Inclusive Planet under the channel Important
circulars, orders and provisions. So guys! If you anytime feel the need of any

related to reservations and quotas etc, just click on the link given below and
find the necessary documents.

Subject: [AI] Jaws working with Windows Live messenger

Hi Friends,

Yesterday, I have updated my system with the latest Windows Live
messenger.

Well, I have mixed reaction for it. One of my biggest problem of accessing
my hotmail mails on the web based server is now resolved, where it allows
you to receive and send mails from an outlook express like application
with

similar keyboard commands. However, they have changed the chat interface,
where the key board command for reading the last messages does not work
like it did with earlier ones. I have to route PC to Jaws and use arrows
key
to read the chat, which is not as convenient as it was earlier. Can the
list
members help us with their experience of using the latest windows
messenger

chat and do we have any scripts where we can make the chat window as
accessible as the earlier versions.

Warm regards

Ankit Jindal

2009-05-11 Thread Abdul Razique

Sir,

I have seen a dummy handset of this model. The keypad is a QWERTY one. the
keys are easily locatable unlike the flat keypads. The battery backup is
better than most of the E series phones. Everything about that phone is
good. But if we can get the experience of a user who is using it with talks,
it would be even better.

[AI] FW: LOST MY SIGHT BT NOT MY VISION...very inspiring take your valuable time to nt jus read it EMBRACE IT

2009-05-07 Thread Abdul Razique
Hello list members,

Do read this inspiring interview.

I Have Lost My Sight but I Have Not Lost My Vision
Interview with Henry Wanyoike
Henry(left) and his guides celebrate his world record in the 10,000 meters at
the Athens Paralympics, 2004 [©Light for the World] SGI Quarterly: What has
been your biggest challenge and struggle in life?
Henry Wanyoike: To me the biggest challenge is to have been born and raised
poor, and to come out of that has been very difficult. And as a disabled
person, to be accepted by society is not easy. Also, even though I have four
world records it has been difficult to convince people that I can do promotion
for them, and it is not easy to buy shoes or other training attire. To travel
out of my area is not easy because the roads are not good. And the training--I
have to stop when it is raining because it is very slippery and muddy.
SGIQ: I understand you suddenly lost your sight more or less overnight due to a
viral infection.
HW: I lost my sight in 1995. Before that I was good at athletics, and I used to
represent my school at the national championships in Kenya and win trophies and
certificates. My biggest dream was to be a champion, and to put Kenya on the
map. But after losing my sight nobody believed that I could go out again and
run.
I stopped from 1995 until 1999. Then I joined a rehabilitation center, and I
came to understand that even people with a disability can do great things. One
of the games teachers said, Henry, you told me you have been very good in
athletics. We don't want you to sit on your talent. I asked how I could be
able to run if I can't see where I'm stepping, where I'm going, but he taught
me how to run with a guide. I'm full of scars in the hands and my legs and face
because of falling down, but I never stopped, I never gave up, because I really
wanted to be a champion. To be a champion, there is a cost for everything.
That's what I believe. There is nothing you can get easily, you need to sweat,
you need to struggle to achieve. I always believe that man's achievement or
failing to achieve his goals is a result of his own fault.
SGIQ: Now when running, do you still feel frightened sometimes?
HW: When we are running and the road is uneven and full of potholes, I feel
frightened because I feel like I might fall down. If I don't trust my guide I
cannot run, so I tried very much to develop trust, as he plays a very great
role. So I believe I'm in safe hands, with someone who is responsible, very
kind and very patient.
SGIQ: I read the story about the Sydney Paralympics when your guide couldn't
continue and you had to drag him to the finish.
Victory in Sydney against all odds [Courtesy of Henry Wanyoike] HW: My guide
was not able to run, as he was recovering from malaria but I was telling him,
No, no, we can make it, pushing him toward the finish. In fact I only just
missed the world record. . . . That was my first international competition, so
it was not easy for me. At that time I didn't know how to choose the best
guide. Everybody was cheering me, telling me which direction to go because my
guide could not. So I was listening to the spectators shouting, Henry, Henry,
Henry! Keep left, keep right, keep straight!
SGIQ: How important is it to you to win?
HW: I believe I have to win because of the training I undergo every day. I have
to be very well disciplined, to wake up very early in the morning, run for two,
three hours, and sometimes we ride our bicycles for more than 60 km every day
and then again in the evening, running, training. Winning to me means a lot as
it's seeing the fruits of hard work. If you work hard, you will always get a
reward, that is what I believe.
SGIQ: For people with disabilities or depression or other problems, would you
encourage them to try running?
HW: I believe running, like all sports, can give you more courage and prevent
you from thinking too much about your problems. When I'm running, I don't see
my blindness, my disability. I even celebrate my blindness. I always see
success. Every year I have two birthdays, my actual birthday and the day when I
lost my sight and started a new life.
For disabled people, if you sit there and tell yourself you cannot make it,
then you will not be fully accepted by society because you are not showing
people that you can do things. When you are involved in sports, it's easy for
you to convince people that you can make it in life. Through my running, for
example, in Kenya I have changed the lives of many people, and even now society
is accepting disabled people in the country because of what they have seen me
doing. Now the Disability Bill has been passed in parliament, and I'm very
happy about that. The time has come for opportunities, not for sympathy. We
need to show the world that disability is not inability! We are capable of
doing things.
SGIQ: I heard that you're now working toward tackling the triathlon.
HW: Yes. I

[AI] Open Your Eyes, Please Read this

2009-04-17 Thread Abdul Razique
Hello list members,

This posting contains a short journey of a campaign called Open Your Eyes,
which has been very instrumental in spreading the awareness related to the VI
community in Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies Under Graduate ( SCMSUG),
Pune, the BBA constituent of Symbiosis International University and has also
led to the development of facilities for the VI students in the college. This
campaign was started by 6 students of our college SCMSUG namely Nalin Agarwal
(T Y BBA), Sameer Dixit (T Y BBA), Jay Thanki (S Y BBA), Sagar Jain (S Y BBA),
Tausif Iqbal(S Y BBA), and Abdul Razique Khan (F Y BBA). We are sharing our
experiences of past 1 year, be it a failure or success, and thus would like
everyone to read this posting, especially the students who are currenly
pursuing courses in any institution.

19th July,2008, Youth Activism Day- It all started off from here. Youth
activism day was celebrated in the form of a competition in our college. In
this competition, the participants were supposed to give a presentation on any
social issue, in front of the judges and carry out a campaign with the help of
posters and banners in the college campus to make the students aware on that
issue. The students also had to come up with a solution which can be carried
out at a college level to resolve the issue. It was then that we formed a group
and named our campaign as Open Your Eyes. We gave a presentation which was
based on the following topics, (i) Hindrances faced in the society by the VI
community, (ii) Accessibility issues in front of the visually challenged, (iii)
Assistive Technologies: A solution to accessibility issues, (iv) Steps to be
taken by the college authority to resolve this issue at a college level. The
presentation was backed up by two specially shot videos which created a lot of
impact on the judges and audience. The first three parts of the presentation
are self explainatory. The main highlight of this presentation was the last
part wherein we proposed the management of our college to provide the necessary
support system to the visually challenged students of the college. This
suggestion was presented in the form of a well documented proposal in which we
presented XRCVC, a resource centre for visually challenged successfully
operating in ST. Xaviers college, Mumbai as an example. The proposal was
accepted immediately by the Head- SCMSUG, Dr. Bhama Venkatramani and all the
faculty members. This itself was a win for us. But there was more to come our
way, as we were also judged to be the winners of the college event. This was
not the beginning, instead, everything had just started.

Our team had two well defined objectives now, (i) Spreading the awareness and
(ii) Development of support system for visually challenged students in the
college. Taking these two objectives in mind, we carried our campaign forward
in the form of various programmes and events, which are described as under:

 19

1.. th September, 2008- Presentation in the inter college fest- Illuminaire
2008:

We gave a similar type of presentation as before in front of the students of
various colleges in the Inter college fest- Illuminaire, 2008 to create
awareness amongst them. The fest also saw the presence of Mr. V.S. Kumar,
commissioner of Income Tax, Pune. We made them realize that a visually
challenged student can compete against their counter parts in all fields. Its
just that they need the availability of necessary support system to perform
their tasks. This presentation was almost the same as the previous one but it
had all the ingredients which could inspire and sensetise the students. This
was the first type of awareness programme in this level and we are looking
forward for more, in the near future.

21st September, 2008- Presentation in the 2nd Access India Convention,
Ahmedabad:

This was the first time we moved out of our college with our campaign. We, as
representatives of SCMSUG, went to the Access India Convention to give a
presentation on Inclusive Education ( inclusion of students from all societies
in regular schools and colleges). Another purpose to participate in this
convention was to gain knowledge about the latest technologies and get the
first hand experience from the achievers present over there. We interviewed
many of them in order to know the hindrances they have faced in their lives and
the struggles they have undergone to overcome these hurdles. 4 members of our
team are sighted and it was a totally new experience for them to be amongst so
many VI's. They were all very impressed by each and everything over there. Our
presentation was very much appreciated and it was enough to encourage us to
move forward in this field. As everyone knows, the convention was held in Blind
People's Association. This enabled our team to see a glimpse of the life of the
students over there. We interviewed some of the students

[AI] Visually challenged denied basic facilities in TN

2009-03-21 Thread Abdul Razique
Hello list members,

Please read this NDTV coverage. I'm sorry if this has been posted before.
---
Last year, NDTV uncovered a story on residents of a colony in Chennai who were
opposing a school for the visually challenged in their neighbourhood all
because they felt looking at visually challenged people is bad omen.

A media outcry helped the NGO set up the school. Now, there's a new challenge.
The local authorities seem reluctant to provide drinking water and drainage
facilities, citing a technical reason.
This new residential training school for the visually challenged has come up
with the required Government approval. But for more than a month, the NGO that
built it has been waiting for a drinking water and drainage connection. The
local panchayat has refused to provide these basic facilities. This is
allegedly under pressure from affluent neighbours who are opposed to a school
for the differently-abled coming up in their vicinity.

In the beginning, the neighbours did not want this home to come up here. Many
believed looking at visually challenged people every morning would be a bad
omen. And it took a court battle to start the construction.

The plot was a gift from the Tamil Nadu government. Now, over a hundred
visually challenged students have been forced to continue in their old cramped
school.

They say the drainage and water connections are purely for the housing board
allotees and not meant for any other people. This is clearly a strategy to
avoid us, says Gopi, Founder, Nethrodaya.

The panchayat president refused to comment. When NDTV took up this issue with
the Collector, he promised to look into it

The district administration will take a decision on merit, having in mind they
are physically challenged people, says G. Sundaramurthi, Collector, Tiruvallur
district.

The school's motto says let's share the light, but neighbours here allegedly
don't want to share even the basic common facilities. Clearly what's required
is a change in mindsets.

Regards,
Abdul

[AI] Pune Get Together, an ausom experience

2009-01-19 Thread Abdul Razique
The Pune Get Together was planned to bring people of Pune and other nearby
cities closer to each other. Especially those people who are not techno savies
and therefore cannot get in touch with the rest of the community. The event got
an overwhelming response by the participants and everyone was able to gain
something out of it. Given below is the short description of the proceedings of
the event.

The programme formally started at 11:15 a.m with the welcome speech. This was
followed by the session of Mrs Meera Badwe, a dashing lady with an open heart.
She is the founder of Nivantha , an organization which works for the
rehabilitation of visually challenged people in Pune. She spoke about the
problems faced by the VI's of Pune and how can they overcome the same. This
again was followed by an introductory session, wherein everyone was given a
chance to introduce themselves. The next session was chaired by Mr Sameer
Latey, a Chartered Accountant from Mumbai. He spoke about the difficulties
faced by the VI's to get into the commerce stream and what should they do to
make the subject easier to learn. We were very honoured to have DR. Bhama
Venkatramani, head- Symbiosis Centre for Management studies, who delivered a
speech on her experiences of being amongst the VI's and what she wans to do for
our community in future. She was very much impressed by the people out there
and was interviewing them continuously. This followed the session of Mr. R.
Dharmarajan, and I.E.S officer from Mumbai, who spoke about his profession and
his experiences in his professional career. The participants then had lunch,
which also gave them time for interaction and know each other more closely.

The lunch session was followed by the speech of Mr. Jyotendra Mehta, an IT
professional from Pune who spoke about the problems faced in the work place by
the VI's and his experience in the I T industry. He is one of those few VI's
who works on mainframes. The next session was chaired by Mr Pranay Gadodia who
came all the way from Delhi to be a part of this event. He gave a presentation
on Project Eyeway, a project of Score Foundation which has changed hundreds and
thousands of lives. The last session was a presentation on the Open Your
Eyes campaign run by few students of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies.
This team carries out awareness activities in their college and works for the
improvement in accessibility for visually challenged students in their
college. This event was organized by this team along with Ms. Zainab
Chinikamwala, a free lance French trancelater from Pune. The last 1 hour was
left free for open interaction and questions and answers, which resulted in
healthy discussions and debates on various topics. There were question and
answer rounds after every session as well. Finally, the event closed at 5 pm.
with the vote of thanks.

Overall it was a very successful event, as around 40 people gathered together
and most importantly most of them were meeting each other for the first time.
We are still getting positive feedbacks from the participants who are also
encouraging us to organize this event again.

The entire proceedings of the event was recorded. This recording will be
uploaded soon. Interested people can download it.

Regards,

Abdul

[AI] Regarding the changes in date for Get Together in Pune

2008-12-28 Thread Abdul Razique
Hello friends,

This mail is related to the demand for changes in the date of the get together
to be held in Pune for the VI's.

Friends, we have come to know that there are people outside Pune who want to
participate in this get together but are not comfortable with the scheduled
date- 18th January, 2008, due to some problems. And we are being requested to
shift the dates from 18th January to 25th or 26th January. We dont have any
problems in doing that, provided the number of out station participants
increase considerably. We also have college events around this period, but if
we get a healthy participation confirmation from the outstationed people, we
are ready to organize the event on the suggested date. Since, we dont have much
time left, I would like everyone to confirm their participation within the next
2 days in the e mail ID's given below. We would also like to make the following
points clear.

* We are not taking the responsibility of accomodation facilities.
* We can suggest the place of accomodation and provide you with the contact
details of the same.

Please confirm your participation in any of the ID's given below

Ms. Zainab Chinikamwala

zaina...@gmail.com

Mohammad Tausif Iqbal

tos...@gmail.com

Abdul Razique Khan

1988.ab...@gmail.com

We do not commit that the dates will be changed, but if the above mentioned
conditions are fulfilled, we will surely consider the suggestion.

sincerely,

Abdul

Hi Abdul

Statistics is a very vast subject.
So, please write the title of the book you are looking for or write
the syllabus which should be contained in the book.
Since you are a commerce student, I guess you are looking for a book
on business statistics which contains basics such as data collection,
sampling and testing, correlation and regression etc.
Any way, go to
www.esnips.com
and look for a book.

[AI] Get Together for visually impaired in Pune

2008-12-21 Thread Abdul Razique
Hello friends from Pune,

We are planning to arrange a get together for all the visually impaired of
Pune, next month. I think, this will be beneficial for all of us as everyone of
you would agree to this point that, we don't know each other well. We don't
even know, who all and, how many of them are there in our city from our
community. I feel we should be in contact with each other in order to make our
network stronger. And for this,, a get together initially is a perfect plan
according to me. Thus, I would like as many people as possible to participate
in this get together. We should not restrict this, only to the Access India
list members. Instead, I would suggest everyone to spread the word and bring in
many other VI's who do not belong to AI. Friends from Mumbai and other close by
cities are also invited. We are ready to organize the event and everyone's
suggestions are invited in this regard. Given below are the details of the
event.

Date/ Day- 18th January, 2008, Sunday

Time- 11 a.m

* Venue will be decided according to the number of participants.

* Registration charges will be decided according to the venue.

* Lunch will be included in the charges.

For suggestions, querries or participation confirmation, you can contact

Ms. Zainab Chinikamwala

zaina...@gmail.com

Mohammad Tausif Iqbal

tos...@gmail.com

Abdul Razique Khan

I would again request everyone to participate in this get together. It is our
effort to bring people of our community closer to each other.

Expecting positive answers from everyone,

This question is from Jaws users.

Like we can check font, is there a way to check the colour of the
friend's name or link because the friend's name appears as a link? If
we can check then we can determine that if the colour of the link is
green than the person is online.

Hey Amar,

In orkut, that green light appears only if that person has integrated his

No idea about face book.

[AI] Taj Mahal becomes disable friendly

2008-09-20 Thread Abdul Razique
Taj Mahal, the famed 17th century monument of love in Agra is being made
barrier-free. The authorities are constructing ramps inside the historic
mausoleum
to enable easy movement for the physically disabled.

The monument is being made disabled-friendly by Archeological Survey of India
or ASI, which is responsible for the upkeep and preservation of the heritage
and historical monuments in the country.

Authority don't need any type of
wood blinds
 or
vertical blinds
as its made open and available to all people.A ramp will help all disable
people to have easy movem at Taj Mahal.

It is quite possible that you may have disabled the CD drive accidently.
 To
fix it, if that be the case, go to the properties of your computer, in the
hardware tab, in device manager, locate your cursor on CD/DVD drive and
right click it and there in you can check whether it is enabled or
 disabled.

Re: [AI] battery indicator problem

2008-09-06 Thread Abdul Razique
Sir,

Try this out and your problem may be solved. Go to Control Panel, Power
Options and go to Power Meter Tab. Check the Show details for each
battery check box. Now, go to the Advanced tab and check the Always show
icon in the taskbar checkbox. If these two check boxes are checked, then
only you can see the power status of your laptop in your system tray.

Hope this helps,

 Hello Abdul,

I think in insert in the tool bar you can insert sounds, either from the

till you want. Do let me if this is what you are looking for.

Re: [AI] Bank Guidelines

2008-07-06 Thread Abdul Razique
Ya, thats correct but it is an exceptional case. If we can protect our ATM
cards and credit cards, why cant we be careful about the seals. Infact, it
is our responsibility to be careful about all these things. In my opinion,
the choice should be given to the concerned person whether he/ she is
comfortable with the seals or thumb prints. I have no intensions to offend
anybody.

Well, I am still vary of seals, as they can be easily stolen, not only by
strangers, but also by ill-meaning family members. Several blind people in
India live with distant relatives who do not always keep the well-being of
the blind person in mind. I know of an instance where the relatives of a
blind bank employee regularly took away most of his earnings. Their
justification was that they took care of him.

In terms of security, thumb impression is probably better than a seal.

Did some googling to find out what others in the world do about this.
Affixing seals appears to be the favoured mechanism as per the following
discussion thread - with people from the US, Japan, China etc.:

Pasting below for people who have difficulty following the above link (BTW,
the below text doesn't look properly formatted on my machine...but this is

 The Thread—Making Your Mark
--

by Sheryl Burgstahler http://staff.washington.edu/sherylb/, DO-IT Director

A DO-IT Mentor recently posed the following question within our Internet
discussion forum. I will share with you some of the responses so that you
can get the flavor of the many rich and informative conversations in our
DO-IT community.

*How do people, who physically have difficulty in using a pen, write their
signatures when they pay by check or credit card? Are there any useful
implements or alternative ways for them to do this?*

*DO-IT Mentor:* Using a debit card is one alternative. However, writing a
signature is still frequently asked for. I am not sure if we can escape from
it completely. However, in my country, Japan, signatures are not common.

We use seals (stamps) instead. People who cannot write usually ask somebody
else to stamp their seal for them and the result is the same whomever does
it. Keeping their own seal is a good proof.

I personally hope that writing signatures will become much simpler using
technology so that in the near future people can do this independently.
Electronic money has been a big theme in recent years, with the big question
being how does one keep personal information secure? Can I ask how this
signature challenge is coped with in the US today?

*DO-IT Mentor with Cerebral Palsy:* Years ago I wrote my signature on the
computer using CorelDRAW™ and my trackball, and then I had a stamp made of
it. Maybe 5% of the time people question the legality of it, but I have not
had too much trouble. When I don't have my stamp, I have someone print my
name and then they sign next to it with the word by followed by his/her
name.

*DO-IT Mentor who has no functional use of hands:* Something I should
mention about a signature stamp is that the person using it should have it
notarized to make it technically legal.

*'94 DO-IT Scholar with limited functional use of hands:* Speaking of a
signature stamp, I have one myself, and I love it. One thing that my bank
asked of me is to give them a copy of the stamped signature, which is just
for the safety for both me and them.

*'94 DO-IT Scholar with limited functional use of hands:* Also I forgot to
mention that my bank only accepted a signature stamp with my actual
signature. It could not be generated from a computer for security reasons.

*'99 DO-IT Scholar with limited functional use of hands:* I can hold a pen
for writing. It looks like a little child's writing. I also had a stamp
made, which can usually be done at any US office store.

*DO-IT Mentor:* I have a friend who is barely able to hold a pen. He just
signs an x where his signature is supposed to be. As long as store
employees see him do it, he hasn't had any problems.

*DO-IT Mentor with visual impairment:* One tool that can help, but is
usually associated with vision loss, is a signature guide. It helps contain
the signature in the correct position. It comes in paper, plastic, and metal
and is inexpensive.

There are also pens that have a fatter and rougher grip. Examples/sources

It is absolutely correct that none can be proved right or wrong in the
case of a phone confirmation. How would it be if a VI informs the bank
through mail as soon as he issues a cheque? Now a days with the CBS,
all branches are connected through the net. So, though the cheque is
presented at any place, a final confirmation from the branch where the
customer has an account is required. At this stage the banker has to
see whether a mail has come from the VI customer or not. Here one
suggestion is that while issuing cheque book to a VI customer, the
words VI can be printed on the cheque so that the banker knows that
it is a cheque given by a VI customer. If printing is impractical, a
rubber stamp can be used for this purpose. After all I don't think any
branch of a bank will have VI customers atleast in double digits.
Whatever I have said is according to a lay man's knowledge like mine.
So, I repeat. I stand corrected.

Now to be honest most banks dont have a system to verify at present and

So what do we do in the interim for cheques which have thumb impression

 book.
So the empty chequeswith only our signature and the attestation will be
 lying with us.
The worry is that we can lose the cheque book and that someone can fill
 up
details and withdraw from our account.
The other problem is that our cheques look different and that all banks
 would insist on it.
If we do think of attestation then it will be as an interim measure until
biometric. You all know in India to get this attestation out of the
 system
it will take 5 yearts and something which is interim will become permant.

So should I put in this attestation clause or leave it now and let the
 IBA
suggest it if necessary and deal with it then?

Need feedback by 9.30 am Monday morning.
Come on lets start the debate.

 Hi,

 Try the following:
 1. Open the Ndtv website through Firefox and click on RSS link,
 2. Click on the section from which you want updates from, for
 instance, National News,
 3. A dialogue box should now appear prompting you to choose a feed
reader. Select Live bookmark as your feed reader, tab further and
press OK. I think it is selected by default. You don't need to select
the reader again and again, that is, you won't get this prompt next
time you subscribe for a feed,
 4. Now you'll get another prompt with the feed name and the folder to
which it is to be saved. If you don't make any change here and press
OK, the feed will be saved with its default name in Bookmarks Toolbar
folder. You can access this folder in the Bookmar menu of your
browser. Click on Show all Folders option if you want to save it in a
different folder or click Make new Folder option if you want to save
it in the folder of your own. The subscription process for the section
National News is thus complete and you are now ready to access the
content of this section as it is updated. Follow the same steps for
the feeds subscription for another section in the website.

To access the feeds you have subscribed, go to the Bookmark menu and
find the folder you have saved the feeds in.

 Hope this helps.

 Hi,

YouTube videos are embedded in the browser, so it does
not appear as a downloadable file.

You can, however, save the video in a favorites list,
which can be created if you are signed in. For this,
you would have to click on the favourite link that
appears below the video when you are loged in.

 Hi,

The calculater from Saksham performs only basic

 multiplication, and division.
It can be used easily by any one.
There is a setting that changes the device from a

Re: [AI] an OE question

2008-05-11 Thread Abdul Razique

Sir,

If you have less mails, you can save it somewhere in your PC and then
transfer them via pen drive, but if the number of mails in the inbox is
large then better to follow the instructions given below.

1. Go to Tools, options and press control+ shift+ tab to land on the
maintanance tab of the options diologue box.
2. Tab to the Store folder button and press enter on it. Here you have to
note down the path in which your messages are stored.
3. Now go to that folder and copy the Inbox.dbx file and fpaste it in your
pen drive.
4. Now, insert the pen drive into the other PC and paste the Inbox.dbx file
in the directory where other file of the same name exists. I mean you have
to replace the original file. you can note down the path of that directory
from the store folder button in the maintanance tab of OE.
5. Now you can read all the mails from the inbox folder of OE.

Hope this helps
Abdul

Re: [AI] creating cd of multiple daisy books.

2008-05-08 Thread Abdul Razique
hey amar,
Daisy books contain files with smil and mp3 extentions. I think, MP3 files
can be played in your CD player as well, if the player supports MP3 format.
As far as PC is concerned, no need to worry, you can play it in winamp or
TPP Reader. For me, TPP reader is much easy to navigate through the lessons,
pages or sections of a lesson.

Hope this helps

Subject: [AI] when a lizard can do it

WHEN A LIZARD CAN DO IT, WHY CAN'T WE DO IT?

This is a true story that happened in Japan.
In order to renovate the house, someone in Japan breaks open the wall.

Japanese houses normally have a hollow space between the wooden walls. When
tearing down the walls, he found that there was a lizard stuck there because
a nail from outside hammered into one of its feet. He sees this, feels pity,
and at the same time curious, as when he checked the nail, it was nailed 10
years ago when the house was! first built.

What happened?

The lizard has survived in such position for 10 years! In a dark wall
partition for 10 years without moving, it is impossible and mind-boggling.
Then he wondered how this lizard survived for 10 years! without moving a
single step--since its foot was nailed!

So he stopped his work and observed the lizard, what it has been doing, and
what and how it has been eating. Later, not knowing from where it came,
appears another lizard, with food in its mouth. Ah! He was stunned and
touched deeply. For the lizard that was stuck by nail, another lizard has
been feeding it for the past 10 years...

Imagine? it has been doing that untiringly for 10 long years, without giving
up hope on its partner.

Think, will u do that to your partner?

Think, will you do it to your Mom, Who brought you after a big struggle of
nearly TEN long months?

Or at least to your Dad, Friends, Co-workers, brothers and Sisters?

Imagine what a small creature can do that a creature blessed with a
brilliant mind can't.

As information and communication technology advances, our access to
information becomes faster and faster. But the distance between human beings
. . . is it getting closer as well? As for now, I don't think soâ?¦

Please never abandon your loved ones.

With warm regards
Yours sincerely

Re: [AI] How to improve scanning

2008-05-06 Thread Abdul Razique
Hi Alpana. Even I am using canon scanner. But the OCR software I am using is
Omni Page. You might have got it with the canoscan driver. The accuracy
levels are really good provided the quality of the print is good, which is
the case with all the OCR's.

Hope this helps

At present, i am using ABBYY FineReader 7 and Canoscan Lide 20 for

 hi
till your step 5: after files have been queued, what next do I do?
in the status it shows files which have bene queued but not finished. I
 checked them, now what?
there are so many options to choose from, like refresh, done, clear etc.
which one to opt when I've selected and checked the queued files? or do
nothing? how long does it ordinarily take? how do I know whether after
checking the queued files the process has started?

 much thanks

 Hello! Anjali

I myself have been using K11 and never faced the problem as you report.

I am listing down the steps which I require to create an audio file in
 mp3:

 1. Select 'Create audio files' from 'Utilities' in File menu.

 2. Select the number of pages to be processed in the dialog box (whether
 All
 or selected).

 3. Select the output format of the audio file (whether mp3, wave etc).

 4. Select the destination of that audio file (by default it goes in the
General folder of Kurzweil in My Documents).

 5. Press 'Ok' and you will hear that the Job is in cue.

 6. You can check the status of the file conversion in the 'Audio Spooler
Monitor' Located in the Utilities in the File menu only.

 7. Later, you can go in the General folder to check your file and can
 copy
 it anywhere you want.

 Hope this helps.

 Bye

 Regards

 Arpit
