Hello sir. Thanks a lot for the response. My sincere apologies for the vague selection of words the last time around. But you did figure out the nature of the question. There are certain things which I couldnt quite gather. After signing in, do you move to basic html mode or is the standard mode good enough. I did try to use the jaws curser but to no help. I'd be highly obliged if you can be a bit more elaborate. Moiz. Nevertheless, I would tell you how I see others being online or off. Once signing in, I activate the jaws curser, and then down aero to see the list of the names. If after their names, jaws is saying available or whatever status message they have set for themselves, then it would mean that they are online; whereas, if jaws itself is saying offline, then, clearly, they are off. In order to talk with the desired person, taking the jaws curser on his name, I do root jaws to PC, f11 to make calls, and escape to end it. Please pardon me if it didn't serve you. Friends. I've found myself in trouble once again. There are certain links on certain webpages which just do not open. I hear a strange sound and thats it. The open in new window option also does not help at times. Sighted people can open the same page with great ease. What may be the problem? Exactly! Can we have their contact details? If what the article says is correct, we may be heading towards a revolution provided the quality of the output is good. Re: [AI] page breaks with jaws.
Hello sir. Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. Well I have been doing the same thing. It isnt wworking. I managed to exactly copy a page from the Hindu's website to ms word. But the journals that I am looking at...strangely enough...its not happening. Pulling down the edit menu, typing A for the select all command...this is what I did but the thing is not getting selected. Now does i.e. have different standards for different pages or what. I'm clueless. Using another brouzer can be tried as an option. But with all that was said about virtualization, do you still think it'll make any difference? Moiz. Message: 11 Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2007 11:34:13 +0530 From: "Syed Imran" < [EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [AI] page breaks and jaws. To: < accessindia@accessindia.org.in> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Hello Moiz and my dear list members, This is a lengthy E-mail. I like to share my technique of copying any data from web pages in its original format including tables and hyperlinks. I assure you that if you perform these operations correctly, you can copy the exact data appearing on the screen. I further make myself clear to you that the copied data will be free from line-breaks and page-breaks. So I hope you don't mind spending some of your time with me to read this mail carefully. Before telling you how to copy, I want to make you aware of a curious technology which Freedomscientific is using in order to make web documents accessible by using something called "Virtual PC cursor". The virtual PC cursor performs the function of copying and differentiating headings, links, formfields, and other such elements on a web page. This is called "Virtualising". Virtualising includes finding out the different elements on a web page, layout of tables, etc and making these elements appear in a seperate line. The text we read using jaws in a web page is not what a sighted person reads on the screen. Let me make it easy to understand by an example. I have given a paragraph in 2 different illustrations as to show how exactly a paragraph with links might appear on the screen and how Jaws reads for us. I think it is necessary for us to know how virtual viewer works, to understand why line breaks appear when we copy any data from Internet explorer I) Illustration 1 How does a web page appear on the screen? (not virtualised) -- The process of pickling fruits and vegetables: Some LINK fruits and LINK vegetables preserved by pickling. The fruit/vegetable washed and dried. Then it is cut into pieces and enough salt is added. These pieces are kept in the sun. LINK Oil and LINK spices are added. The pickle are stored in a LINK dry jar with a tight lid. A dry spoon is used to stir and take the pickle from the jar. The pickle will spoil if a wet spoon is used. In this illustration, you can observe jaws saying "Link" in the middle of the line. I think this is how a "link" element appears on the screen. But whenever Jaws encounters any links in a web page, it breaks the line to present them in a separate line as to make more accessible and also to an extent, save the time of the readers. Let me try to give an idea about the same in the 2nd illustration: ii) Illustration 2 How does Jaws virtualise the content? (virtualised) The process of pickling fruits and vegetables: Some LINK fruits and LINK vegetables preserved by pickling. So this is how Jaws arranges the data in the web page after virtualising. However, when you copy this text to Microsoft Word, you will observe the text broken something like this: Some fruits and vegetables Instead of: Some fruits and vegetables We can surely remove the line breaks by pressing CTRL+downarrow and then back space followed by space bar as Vetry said, but it takes lot of time. Especially the lengthy documents. So when you want to copy anything from internet explorer, don't use selecting keys like Shift+downarrow, or ctrl+A to select the text. follow these simple steps exactly to copy the exact information without line or page breaks. 1. Open the web page from which you want to copy 2. Press Alt+E to pull down edit menu. 3. Choose "Select all," by pressing A. We can't press CTRL+A directly instead of pulling down edit menu because Jaws will select from its virtual buffer. And I think Moiz, this could be the cause of your problem. 4. Again pull down the edit menu (Alt E) and choose copy by pressing C. Now what actually happens is that when you select all and copy from the edit menu, the data gets d

Re: [AI] page breaks with jaws.
Hello sir. I'll be temporarily fine even if the select all option were to work on my computer. Whether jaws is acting wierdly or whether I'm unable to grasp the thing properly...I am not sure. This method is intrinsic for a research that I have undertaken. I need to access online international law journals for important articles on the subject of my study. Saving the web page is not available as an option. So I somehow need to copy the thing and have the same in a word document. The page and line breaks tend to have a deleterious effect on my concentration and efficiency. What do I do? Moiz. Message: 4 Date: Wed, 25 Apr 2007 12:21:41 +0530 From: "Viraj Kafle" < [EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [AI] page breaks with jaws. To: < accessindia@accessindia.org.in> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original I think the edit menu option works only if we are copying the whole webpage. In that case, simply going to the edit menu and clicking the select all option, then going to the edit menu and clicking the copy option, and finally going to the word document option and pasting the copied content works very well. This is probably because, in this method, the system copies the content of the webpage as it is and not the way jaws virtualises it. However, when it comes to copy the selected texts and not the entire webpage, then I think this method hardly works. You need to select the content with the usual shift down errow, go to the edit menu and do the rest. Since the selected text is virtualised, there is an ample chance of the layout being spoiled in the word document. May I know why do you need to copy the internet content in the word document? Probably your main purpose will help us more to suggest alternative methods. Regards. To unsubscribe send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject unsubscribe. Hello. There may not be any formal order in this regard. But then university authorities, if considerate enough, do entertain applications of such kind. In fact, in my case, the university authorities gave me an option. I could have an amanuensis with 30 mins extra time or I could use the computer with no additional time. I opted for the latter and the experience has been very satisfying so far. On the other hand, there are certain universities which are infamous for their apathy. A few years back, the Calcutta University did not allow my sister to use a typewriter for examination purposes. Re: [AI] mal wares, spy wares problems (firoz pathan)
Hello. I am no computer geek, but have faced similar problems in the past. Try downloading spyware doctor which is available online at www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/ I cannot recollect whether it requires a keygen or not. Try this out and do let us know if you do need a keygen. Along side, I also use zone alarm as my firewall. You can get it at www.zonelabs.com/zonealarm This has worked with my computer. Hope it works for you too. Regards, Moiz Tundawala, BA/BSc LLB, National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. To unsubscribe send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject unsubscribe.
