Dear AI members, especially legal experts,
I am in urgent need of the rules framed for disabled people in regard
of public transportation issued from state governments especially for
metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai etc.
And if somebody can provide the essence of PWD act’s section dealing
with the measures to be taken by state governments facilitating
traveling for disabled people.

Actually, the exact concern is that the private buses being run along
with the state government’s buses are they expected to be complying
with the provisions made for disabled passengers such as reserved
seat, no fair etc.?

Responses will be highly appreciable.

Soon, software systems that can sense user's activity
Washington, June 24, 2010
ANI
Caption:A computer user at work. File Photo: H. Vibhu

A Pakistani computer science researcher at the University of
Leicester, UK, has looked at the prospects of a technique which could
sense the activity of the user with the help of computer software
systems.

Kamran Taj Pathan’s doctoral study aims to deliver the systems which
change according to the situation of the user by using Software
Sensors that scan the context of the user.

Pathan said: “To facilitate the user with the change of environment
computer systems need to be aware of the user’s profile, location,
time and activity, to fulfil the user’s own needs in the current
context.

“Ubiquitous computing refers to the invisible integration of devices
into everyday life (Weiser, 1988). One of the fields of ubiquitous
computing is context-aware systems which promises to capture the
user’s needs and hence the requirements they have on systems. With the
mobility of devices this field is becoming more popular”.

Currently, activity -- i.e. what a user is doing -- is relevant
information traditionally gathered by use of hardware sensors (e.g.
tracking devices).

The research aims to lessen the burden from the hardware sensors which
may be more expensive and will take time to install.

Pathan said: “Consider a scenario where a student wants to meet with
his supervisor according to a scheduled meeting at 9am in the office.
On the day he has come to know, through the system, that the
supervisor could not attend due to adverse weather.

“With the use of software, the system can obtain the information
virtually by a user’s own profile and surrounding systems and can
infer the activity by applying rules onto it”.

Pathan added: “This will not only help an individual to get the system
to behave according to his current needs but will also be useful for
Private and Public Organizations (such as Law Enforcement Agencies,
Education, Travel, Shopping Centers and Banks etc.) who depend on
Collaborative Working Environments to support their users with system
that make the computer more ubiquitous”.

2006-06-29 Thread Aaruni Arsh

Mood Synthesiser

If you've ever wondered what computers will be able to do next, wonder no
more. A prototype system developed at the University of Cambridge which is
scheduled to be unveiled at a Royal Society exhibition in London will be
able to read people's minds by analysing facial expressions.

The "emotionally aware" computer as it's being called is capable of locating
and tracking up to 24 different feature points like the edge of the nose,
the eyebrows and the corners of the mouth.

Different combinations of movements involving these such as a nod or shake
of the head or a lip curl, smile or raised eyebrows which are linked to
underlying emotions are then fed into software and used to detect the same
facial combinations in real-life situations.

The system can also cope and adjust to variations in people's facial
composition. For example, it can recognise the same emotion even if the face
is round or thin or sporting a beard or moustache or even wearing glasses.

What it can't do right now is differentiate between small variations in the
way people express the same emotion. But according to Peter Robinson,
professor of computer technology at Cambridge, they are in the process of
fine-tuning the programming so that it will be able to overcome this
limitation too.

So what applications would such a computer have? For starters it could
enable websites to tailor ads to a person's moods. Software attached to a
webcam on a PC would process the user's image to pick the right emotional
moment to target products.

The technology could also be used in cars to improve driver safety by
monitoring facial movement to identify complex expressions linked to
confusion, boredom or tiredness and instigate appropriate action.

However, for some people the development has raised the question of personal
privacy all over again. For, whereas one can always shut or cover the camera
on one's own computer, the same would not be possible on other devices where
the technology would surely be incorporated in next to no time.

Secretly photographing someone with a mobile phone is bad enough;
surreptitiously checking out the emotional state of a date, colleague or
spouse and taking advantage of that might be worse. Unless properly
regulated it could, in fact, constitute yet another intrusion into people's
private lives.

Regards,

Aaruni.

While I have very good experience with dogs.
They never ever bit me. previously I had dogs at my home and I used to
spend some time playing with them.
Not only dogs but it is a believe in to great extent by most of the
people that any animal doesn't attack a blind person. I can't deny
the fact that it would have some other reasons that dogs don't bite a
blind person and in my view they are being protected by God in front
of animals.
I think the same cause would have been there as dog didn't attack
Geetha other vise I don't believe that dogs get afraid with our white
stick. They even try to follow the people with carrying some other
tools and things then why should they get afraid of our small stick?
This is also a general concept of the people and experts that we
should not try to run or walk very fast in case of dogs try to follow
us to bite or even they bark on us.

Right now he is a school going boy.
He and his parents are in need of guidance like what they can do for
 his good education and profession?
What are the fecilities provided by state and central governments and
other fecilities which he can avail like extra time in exams,
 scollarships, concessions, etc.
In totality, they want to know about all the ospects of life of a
disabled as they are not very much aware.
So, is anyone willing to extend his or her hands for their help?
Or, can someone provide me information about the organizations etc, to
which they can contact and can get good and propper guidance?
 Awaiting response.
 Amar Jain.

2010-01-01 Thread Himanshu Sahu
Dear List Members,
I am facing a problem while using my system.

Few days back, suddenly one “Favorite Submenu” started to appear when
I was working on.
And after two or three days it automatically disappeared but, the
new problem occurred.
Now the command “alt+Tab”, through which we minimize the current
window, was not working.
Then I got my system formatted.
But again the first problem occurred and after few days disappeared
automatically, and since the time,”Alt+Tab” Command is not working
again.

Kindly, suggest me if there is any solution.
Thanks

2010-03-17 Thread Chetan Sharma
Hi access indians,

Right now, India is the richest country in the world ! Wondering how?
It's really amazing.

(1) It's due to Mr. G Vaidyaraj, who donated all his wealth, about
which he actually did not know.

He is a descendent of Raja Krishnadev Raya from Mysore district.

For the last 300 years or so, three stones were worshipped in his
house. But nobody tried to see what it was, except this person, who is a
lawyer by profession. One day, when there was nobody in his house, he
took the stone out to see what it was that they worship.
Due to the dust deposited on it, from many many years, it looked only
like a simple stone.
But when he touched it, some portion of the stone was cleansed.
And he saw a bright ray of light.
He saw something which attracted his attention. And he was amazed when
he cleaned all of them. The whole room was filled with light.
He discovered they were diamonds of about 4600 carats each.

He informed the Govt. of India and the news is censored with its
security.
It's now deposited in a Swiss Bank.
The cost of single diamond exceeds the GDP of USA + UK .

Even World Bank does not have enough money to buy it.
India can buy virtually 7 developing nations.

One diamond costs thrice the debt of World Bank over India .

One such diamond can buy 10 Bill Gates to you.
And the World Bank has proposed the Indian Govt. that it can pay India
in Installment if it wishes to do so.

India 's GDP is 34.25 billion dollars.

Bill Gates property is 95 billion dollars approximate so that is the
way 'nature changes'.

Our Prime Minister has refused to sell it.

He said it will be sold or mortgaged for credit when we need it.
Otherwise right now we have no problems.

You can go through Times of India with a small column on it a week ago.

Star TV presented a 115 min documentary on it about 15 days ago.

The Hindu with its half page article in it.

After that it was censored as classified.

(2) Another good news is that in the Desert of Thar a deposit of Oil
and
Natural gas have been found.. This stores what Kuwait has in its
stomach.

India can go with this ONGC energy reserve with another 30 years.
And moreover it can export it to other counties.
It's incredible!! But true.

(3) An Indian boy in his 12th standard has disproved Einstein's
'Theory of Relativity'.
Shocked? Read on...

Sudarshan Reddy has theoretically proven the existence of a sub-atomic
particle, which can travel at speed greater than that of light, thereby
challenging one of the fundamental postulates of the 'Theory of
Relativity'.

In his recent research paper submitted to the Institute of Advanced
Physics (IAP) at Trieste ( Italy ), Sudarshan has proved the existence
of a class of sub-atomic particles called leptons', which can travel
faster than light.

The international physics community is shocked by this discovery.

Dr.Massimo Martelli, President of the IAP has this to say about the
paper submitted by Sudarshan. 'After long, careful and critical
analysis, I can confidently say that Sudarshan's research papers show
tremendous leap in our understanding of physics. His investigation
mounts up on 'leptons'... His work builds substantially on the work of
Einstein and others in the field of relativity.'
When physicists from Princeton University tried to measure Sudarshan's
IQ with an IQ-meter (at the American Embassy in Delhi ), the meter
broke down.
Sudarshan, incidentally, is the brother of Madhu Reddy, the Indian whiz
kid who developed an operating system superior to Microsoft Windows.
We should all be very proud of these boys.

Please forward this email to as many Indians and also the Americans who
think Indians are Poor !!! .Jai Hind

`I want to touch the Vidhana Soudha and draw it'

Staff Reporter

Five visually challenged children exhibit their skills in drawing

Bangalore: Mountains are green. The sky is blue. The sun is yellow. There are
even two birds to complete the perfect picture.

"Did you ever imagine that the blind could draw, madam?" Mahadevi, a visually
challenged student from CSI Victoria School in Mysore, asked a pressperson,
pointing to her drawing.

Displaying their ability to draw on a Monday afternoon for the press, five
visually challenged children sat and drew mountains, trees, flags and flowers
of different colours all by themselves.

Training

Trained by an artist, Mustafa Khan, in what he calls "Pop Up Symbolism", these
10th standard students, Kavitha, Nagamani, Rachna, Sushma and Mahadevi, can
now draw by touching objects to understand their shape and then using their
fingers to recreate them from their imagination. "The children had to be taught
to hold a pencil. They were used to punching holes for Braille," says Mr. Khan.

Preparing them mentally and continuously motivating them is important in the
initial stages.

The children are first taught to be familiar with shapes such as triangles,
rectangles and circles.

Then they are taught to identify crayon colours by associating certain shapes
with the colours.

"It has been four years since I started working with these children," says Mr.
Khan. Now, he teaches 16 students and is willing to teach more visually
challenged
children.

"I can even provide literature on how to go about the process," he says.

"We did not think that we could draw big shapes when we started off," says
Nagamani. "Now I want to touch the Vidhana Soudha and draw it," Mahadevi says.

2007-03-10 Thread P. Subramani
This is a real incident that happened in a local hospital in Bangalore,
India.

A 4 year old girl was admitted due to leg fracture.

As it was an open fracture, she had to undergo an operation to stitch the
protruding bone back in place. Though it was quite a minor operation, she was
hooked on to life support system, as a part of the process. The doctors had to
input some data prior to the operation to suit different conditions. Thereafter,
the operation proceeded. Half way through the process, the life support system
suddenly went dead. The culprit: - Some one was using his/her hand-phone
outside the operation theatre. And the frequency had affected the system. They
tried to track the fellow but to no avail. The little girl, young and innocent
as she was, died soon after.

* Message*: "Be compassionate! Do not use your hand phone /mobiles especially
at any hospitals or within the Aircraft or any places where you are told not
to use it.. You might not be caught in the act, but you might have killed

1. Do we get pdf dictionaries? Usually, I connect to dictionary.com to

that comes embeded with acrobat documents, just like the thesaurus
that we have in word? This because of unavailability of the net while

well with it?

2007-11-25 Thread Rajesh Asudani
INDIA BEATS

Poignant notes

AYESHA MATTHAN

It has been a tough but rewarding musical journey for Ruby Alphonse, who learnt
to play the piano in spite of her handicap.

"I play with my left hand; run the fingers of my right hand over the
compositions written in Braille. I memorise bar after bar."

Photo: K. Gopinathan

Against odds:Ruby Alphonse at the piano.

Past dusty lanes in Banaswadi, Bangalore, the sound of a piano playing, from
the first floor of a pink, two-storied flat fills the neighbourhood. Ruby
Alphonse,
in a bright, canary-yellow kurta and a smile like the African-American,
visually-challenged pianist Stevie Wonder, is hesitant to talk.

With her head bent in concentration, her black glasses reflect beams of the
musical notes, which reverberate in her cosy flat where she lives by herself.
And with each ringing note, she narrates her poignant musical journey.

Brought up as an orphan, she studied at Divine Light School for the Blind in
Whitefield. It was here, at the age of 15, curious and enthralled, that Ruby
started fiddling around with the organ in secret. She used to listen to it
being played when she was lying down in her room or during meal times. She was
promptly told that she can't play it as she was blind and hence cannot learn.

Pursuing a dream

But Ruby pursued her musical dream, persisted with nuns at the convent and
found Louise Pinto, a piano teacher at St. Joseph's Convent. "It must have been
hard for her to tutor a visually challenged student, and it was painful and
tough for me." She continues, "No teacher came forward to teach me. I know
I cannot go to another teacher. I don't know if she liked me, but I am very
fond of her." Ruby lapses into silence. "I don't want to talk about the period
that followed where I was unable to continue to learn music", she says drifting
away.

"I learned for one year, but then I had no place to stay. So I moved to Tamil
Nadu, to an ashram for six years, and that's where I met Gabriel and Elizabeth
Gardner, who are from England." It took eight years in all for this gifted and
determined pianist to finish eighth grade.

As she fumbles over unfamiliar notes and new compositions, Ruby reveals how she
learnt to play on her own and practise. "I play with my left hand; run the
fingers of my right hand over the compositions written in Braille. I memorise
bar after bar. And then I repeat the procedure with my right hand, and learn
with the left." It takes one week to 10 days to learn a piece thoroughly, she
says while playing a melodious Johann Sebastian Bach composition.

Twice a week, Ruby goes to the Jyoti Seva School for the Blind in Venkateshpura
where she teaches nine blind students the piano on a one-to-one basis. "There
is no direct bus and if I get late, I take an auto even though it might be
difficult for me financially. But I use my stick to get me to my destination."

She also teaches three blind students at Tunbridge High School weekly, where
she remains the whole day. "I write to the Royal National Institute for the
Blind in London for piano compositions in Braille which takes a few weeks to be
delivered. Earlier, I always used to worry about where I can get books
from. With the help of Gabriel and Elizabeth, who keep sending me books, help
me financially and gifted me this B Steiner piano, I am able to manage."

I accompanied Ruby one day from her house in Banaswadi to the school in
Venkateshpura, and we got off at the ITC Factory on the way. Autos flew by,
insensitive
and blind to a visually challenged woman attempting to hail them. When the 10th
auto stopped, he helped her in, directing her stick and guiding her every
step.

Enjoying teaching

In the music room of Jyoti Seva School for the Blind, where Ruby has been
teaching for three years, 13-year-old Mary Sunita walks in. She is appearing for
the Grade I piano exam and Ruby is nervous. "I am really scared for her, but
don't tell her! I think I am a better teacher than a player," says Ruby who
becomes nervous when she plays for a large audience. Glenn Peter, a 13-year-old
sighted student who comes for piano lessons to Ruby's house every evening,
is appearing for the Grade II exam. "He was very stiff, so I took him over to
Louise Pinto to see about his hand movements, for, the examiners will not
approve," says this worried teacher. Mary Sunita, in a cheery, orange T-shirt
and tunic, starts practising on the Clavinova for her exams.
"Three...one...two..."
Ruby sings as Mary goes assuredly over the notes of a new piece. "Nooo...that
didn't come out well," Ruby gently protests. "Yes miss", she replies repeatedly
as she bends down in concentration and attempts again. "They have to learn how
to read, write and play the pieces. They have to count and play, for, rhythm
is a must."

What's New in JAWS 10 Public Beta

Note: The following information provides details about the upcoming
JAWS 10 public beta release. It is scheduled to be posted for download
during the week
of August 24, 2008.

Thank you for participating in the JAWS 10 English public beta test.
This page provides all the necessary details that you need to know.
Please take a few
moments to review this information and take advantage of the beta
report link to provide Freedom Scientific your feedback during the
public beta.

Please note that while the final release of JAWS 10 will be a Software
Maintenance Agreement (SMA) upgrade, this public beta version will run
for anyone
with a JAWS license that provides access to JAWS 9. You can verify
your ILM authorization by going to
www.fsactivate.com
, choosing the Continue Product Activation button, and then choosing
the link labeled "Verify the number of activation keys available for
your Freedom Scientific
product." On this page, enter your serial number to find out if your
license is current and what release version is allowed.

For those who do not have a JAWS 9 or later license, you can still
install the public beta version and run it using 40-Minute Demo mode.

This public beta version will expire later this year. To use JAWS
without interruption, you must continue to update to later versions of
the public beta
and then to the final release. Please use the Check for Updates
feature in the Help menu each week to be sure that you have the most
current software.

Note: You do not have to remove earlier versions of JAWS to install
JAWS 10. Your previous versions will continue to function when you
have JAWS 10 installed,
just as each new major version release of JAWS has in the past.

Technical Support During the Public Beta

While in public beta, general technical support of JAWS 10 is not
available using our direct support phone lines. We request that you
send feedback directly
to Freedom Scientific using the
Beta Report form.

JAWS 10 Features

JAWS Release 10 offers several new features and improvements as
described on this page. To learn more, read the entire What's New or
press INSERT+F6 to
open a list of headings and then jump directly to a specific item.
hNew JAWS 10 Features Demonstrated in FSCast

Listen to Eric Damery, Product Manager for JAWS, and Jonathan Mosen,
Vice President of Blindness Hardware Product Development, discuss the
latest JAWS 10
enhancements in the
August 2008 FSCast.

Surf's Up! Surfing the Internet with JAWS

Surf's Up!
, the Freedom Scientific Web page that explains how to surf the Web
with JAWS, has been updated to help instructors and students take
advantage of the new
JAWS 10 features that are mentioned on this page. Pay particular
attention to the Forms page. It gives great details for using the new
Auto Forms Mode
function.

Auto Forms Mode

Forms Mode is a function of JAWS that lets you type text into edit
fields or select combo box values on Web pages and Adobe Acrobat
forms. By default, when
using Navigation Quick Keys such as F for next form field or E for
next edit box, you must manually turn on Forms Mode using ENTER or NUM
PAD PLUS and
turn off Forms Mode using ESC. The manual method for controlling Forms
Mode may be better suited for experienced JAWS users.

Auto Forms Mode automatically turns on Forms Mode when you move into
combo box controls using TAB, or edit fields using TAB and ARROW Keys.
This means that
you can freely type in the edit field without having to first press
ENTER. When you exit the control, Forms Mode turns off. This
functionality can be very
useful for new and sighted JAWS users in training environments. By
default, Auto Forms Mode is on. There are two ways to turn it off.
First, you can press

INSERT+V and then change the Auto Forms Mode option to off. Second,
you can use the new Forms Mode Options dialog located in Configuration
Manager.

RealSpeak Solo Direct Synthesizers

JAWS 10 supports RealSpeak™ Solo Direct synthesizers from Nuance(R)
Communications. These new synthesizers work exclusively with Freedom
Scientific products,
provide better speed and performance over the Nuance synthesizers
supplied with earlier JAWS versions, and will not interfere with any
synthesizers currently
installed on your system. To listen to samples or download these
synthesizers, go to the
RealSpeak Solo Direct Voices for Freedom Scientific Products
 Web page.

Another way to open this page is to use the new RealSpeak Solo Direct
link available in the JAWS application window. The link is in Web
Resources under
the Help menu.

Dictionary Manager Tree View

The Dictionary Manager lets you change the way JAWS speaks words,
phrases, abbreviations, or symbols to avoid any mispronunciation. In
JAWS 10, the Dictionary
manager has been expanded so that you can create rules applying to
specific languages, synthesizers, or voices. Once the rule is created,
it is added to
the top of the Dictionary Entries list. It is identified by language

Samsung "Touch Sight" Camera

Digital Cameras,

Samsung "Touch Sight" Camera

Touch Sight Camera

Designer Chueh Lee at Samsung China has designed what may be the
worlds first camera for the blind, the "Touch Sight" - a camera for
the blind!! Euuhhh
Chueh notes:

"Touch Sight is a revolutionary digital camera designed for visually
impaired people. Simple features make it easy to use, including a
unique feature which
records sound for three seconds after pressing the shutter button. The
user can then use the sound as reference when reviewing and managing
the photos.
Touch Sight does not have an LCD but instead has a lightweight,
flexible Braille display sheet which displays a 3D image by embossing
the surface, allowing
the user to touch their photo. The sound file and picture document
combine to become a touchable photo that is saved in the device and
can be uploaded
to share with others–and downloaded to other Touch Sight cameras."

This is simply a fantastic idea and I hope it really makes it to market.

prateek agarwal.

Insight into women's prison life

S. Vijay Kumar

CHENNAI: R. Priya, a visually challenged girl of V.V.V. College for Women in
Virudhunagar, had an unusual project in mind for her M.Phil dissertation -
'Rehabilitation programme for women at the Vellore special prison.'

In a rare gesture, the Prison Department permitted Ms. Priya to interview 50 of
the 72 convicts lodged in the special prison. Many of them were serving a life
sentence.

"They were very kind to me and answered all my questions. Besides the
rehabilitation aspects, I focussed on their socio-economic background. Almost
all the women inmates are illiterates and hail from a rural background," Ms.
Priya says.

According to her, many women prisoners confessed that they committed crimes
because they were left with no option. "Harassment by drunken husbands and
extramarital affairs are common reasons for their taking the extreme step.
There are some aged women convicted for female infanticide and dowry deaths."

A majority of the inmates expressed satisfaction over the facilities at the
prison. However, some opined that vocational courses such as tape and thread
making were decades-old employment schemes introduced during the British
regime. Such skills would not fetch employment on release. They wanted better
income-generating programmes, the girl quoted the prisoners as saying.

This was not the first venture of Ms. Priya. When she was a post graduation
student in a Madurai college, she did a project on the life convicts in Madurai
central prison. Her father runs a tea shop at Anna Nagar, Madurai. "I want to
do Ph.D based on the living conditions of prisoners in Tamil Nadu and recommend
measures that will make their life easy," she added.

Director-General of Prisons R. Natraj said the student's request for project
work in the Special Prison for Women in Vellore was considered as a special
case. She showed keen interest in understanding the life of women convicts, he
added.

Facing life with unending optimism despite visual impairment

Staff Reporter

Wasim is an expert at chess and has won several national-level competitions

He plays the veena and the tabla and has performed in many concerts in the U.S.

Admirable: Mohammed Wasim working on his laptop in Bangalore.

Bangalore: Articulate speech coupled with a pinch of philosophy and
unending optimism defines Mohammed Wasim, a visually challenged
English tutor, at the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. Born with
his vision intact, Mr. Wasim developed microphthalmos, a hereditary
eye disease, that eventually led to his being visually impaired at the
age of seven.

Refusing to give up on life, he completed his basic education from
Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind and the pre-university
course from the Government PU College.

He overcame several obstacles to eventually obtain a BA degree, with
specialisation in journalism, English literature and political science
from Surana College, Bangalore.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Wasim said: "I joined the trust as a
student and now I serve as a teacher, reaching out to the disabled and
economically backward. The trust has gifted me with the ability to
'read' without eyes. I can use numerous computer applications, email
and surf the Internet for information using screen readers. Software,
such as ABBYY, JAWS and the more recent DAISY have added light to my
life. I have also been able to read and enjoy popular books such as
Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner and J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter
series. The mobility training that I have undergone helps me live
independently, even commute by the city bus service."

Mr. Wasim is an expert at chess and has won several national-level
competitions. He plays the veena and the tabla and has performed in
many concerts in the U.S.

He has participated in Republic Day parades at the Manekshaw Parade
Ground. He coaches students in English grammar, communication, voice
and accent skills.

G. Chetan Krishna, former classmate, who works with Mr. Wasim, said:
"Never underestimate the capabilities of the disabled. Wasim is an
example for the potential present within each one of us. The
determination and optimism that he possesses are the fuel that will
drive away stereotypes and prejudices, which still haunt our society."

Vishal.

2008-11-15 Thread prateek aggarwal
friends, this article is copied from DNA mumbai, because i felt you
may like it.
thanks.

Disable-friendly: Mysore shows the way -

MYSORE: Bangalore may be the IT capital of Karnataka, but Mysore is
the most disabled-friendly city in the State, and even in the whole of
India.

Most government offices and educational institutions boast of ramps to
access main areas. Some have even gone a step further in making the
world a tolerably
better place for the blind.

The Mysore Dasara Exhibition Grounds on Friday opened their doors for
the visually impaired; who stayed put for a while and enjoyed the
experience with
their friends and colleagues.

More than 250 children from Blind School and Deaf and Dumb School
were taken inside the exhibition premises, spread over 30 acres of
land, with more than
300 stalls selling items ranging from 'ready-to-eat' sugarcane,
edibles, tractors, herbal medicines, fertilisers to imported toys.
Children were taken
to each stall and were encouraged to touch and feel the things put on
sale. They were later taken 'experience' some games.

They were accompanied by their instructors and the Chief Executive
Officer of Karnataka Exhibition Authority A B Ibrahim.

While this was an 'occasional' affair, there is something else that
'catches' the imagination of the visually impaired children. The
garden at Regional
Museum of Natural History (RMNH) located in Siddharthnagar in the City
is quite an eye-opener for even the ones who can see. Spread over half
an acre of
land, this garden is only the second in the country that is accessible
by ramp with names and directions etched in Braille along the
railings.

The botanical garden includes a number of exotic plant varieties,
herbs, shrubs, floating plants, water plants, models of insects, birds
and animals, made
of fibreglass and silicon rubber, scented plant saplings and trees
with unusual leaf designs, stuffed animals especially rare and
endangered species with
their natural sounds played on a recorder in the background.

Says B Venugopal, scientist-in-charge, RMNH, "The primary objective of
the museum is to impart informal environmental education through
educational programmes
and exhibitions to people with various disabilities."

sir,
what you mean?
do you want to say that the mail in which you have mentioned about

was not sent by you?
if this is the case, then it's really a matter of deep worry.
as you said, it seems like your password is hacked. not only this, but
whoever person has did so, is trying to use your password very wisely.
actually, i am getting the smell of some wrong corperate means.
beware!
listers, one such type of mail where someone was telling about shave

i think our e home is in trubble. moderator, please check our

is it possible that someone with the wrong intention trying to hack

Dear members

I swear, I didn't send this mail. In fact, I was in deep sleep at the
time which was shown in the mail.
I think my password has been hacked by someone.
I think there may be two chances.
1. Yesterday when I tried to sign in to my account, a message appeared saying
type the correct password and enter the security code as shown
I did that and then the problem got rectified.
Another reason could be that just yesterday I registered with a web
site using the same mail ID and password.
I want your guidance in this regard, please, please.
What I have told is truth and nothing else.
I am extremely sorry for this and my sincere apologies to all the
members and more importantly to our moderator.
First, I am going to change my password now itself.
Once again, sorry, sorry, sorry.

2009-06-24 Thread Suryanarayana
Early risers, night owls 'show different brain function'
Washington (PTI): Are you an early riser or a night lark? Your brain shows it
all particularly at 9 o'clock, a new study says.

Researchers at University of Alberta have carried out the study and found that
early risers and night owls show different brain function.

For their study, the researchers looked at two groups of people -- those who
wake up early and feel most productive in the morning and those who're
identified as evening people, those who typically felt livelier at night.

Study participants were initially grouped after completing a standardised
questionnaire about their habits.

Using magnetic resonance imaging-guided brain stimulation, the researchers
tested muscle torque and the excitability of pathways through the spinal cord
and brain of the subjects.

They found that morning people's brains were most excitable at 9 AM. This
slowly decreased through the day. It was the polar opposite for evening people,
whose brains were most excitable at 9 PM.

The study also found that evening people became physically stronger throughout
the day, but the maximum amount of force morning people could produce remained
the same.

In addition, the excitability of reflex pathways that travel through the spinal
cord increased over the day for both groups. It showed nervous-system functions
are different and have implications for maximising human performance.

2009-07-11 Thread Dr. Homiyar Mobedji
Hello all,
I'm sorry this is off topic, but it might really interest many of us.
Yesterday I tried a GPS receiver called Kapten. It is not made
specifically for blind people, but for pedestrians in general. And
most important of all, the thing, which is smaller than an iPod nano,
does not have a screen at all. It can be controlled with five buttons,
voice recognition and text to speech. It is actually designed for
pedestrians, which means that it is precise when walking. Besides
being a GPS receiver, it has a compass that helps the navigation to be
even more precise. It has a 4gB storage capacity, can also be used as
an MP3 player, FM radio and voice recorder. It also has bluetooth,
which allows you to use it to receive and make calls through your
cellphone. I wonder if it would work with an iPhone...? Unlike other
GPS alternatives specially designed for the blind, the Kapten costs
170 euros here in Spain. It is made by the french company Kapsys, and
you might want to have a look at it. As it
doesn't have a screen it is 100% accessible, and definitely worth its
price. And by the way, it is compatible with Mac OS 10 for getting new
maps, storing music or anything you need to do.
Again, sorry for the off topic message but hopefully it will be of use
for some of you...

The RBI circular for Making ATMs accessible is really a great step to
progress on the road to provide parity, strength, self-reliance and
dignity to the blind and visually impaired persons.
My heartiest congratulations to all those who have chipped in this
gregarious job.
A polite question to all legal experts, that what are the means of
this circular for a general visually impaired person like me?
I mean, that do I have right to enforce RBI to settle down at least
one talking ATM in my city jaipur?
If yes, then kindly advise the right procedure.
If no, then please enlighten the things what the persons like me can
still do from the support of this circular even in disregard of
enforcement rights.
Why I’m asking, because there is a huge lack of awareness regarding
facilities to us, and many of us have already experienced the same for
acquiring facilities we got from circular dated 4th june 2008.
It’s highly vital to at least let them aware about the facilities we
got from RBI after massive skirmishing and efforts of our great legal
experts like kanchan mam and other respectables.
I’d be waiting for your responses soon.

2009-08-02 Thread Chaodhari, Sanjeev IN BOM SISL
Dear accessindian's,

You should book mark this site.

http://www.corecentre.co.in

Core Centre is
Developed & Managed by Consumer Coordination Council(CCC)
And
Supported By, DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS (Ministry of Consumer Affairs,
Food & Public Distribution, Govt. of India)

Redressal System

How our New Redressal System Works?

1. Consumer logs on to our website by entering his login Id and password. The
server authenticates his contact details, thereby, avoiding any malpractices
in filing complaints

2. Consumer can go to his account and file complaints, which are categorized
amongst various segments for fast redressal and accuracy. He can also check
the status of all the previous complaints and responses received to them

3. On submission, our Redressal Managers check for the genuineness of the
complaint and if found suitable, it is approved in the system for publishing it
on the web as a blog; simultaneously, an alert is sent to the brand to view the
complaint and respond to it. The response is directly published below the
complaint

4. Once the response is published, system sends an automatic alert to the
consumer to check the response. Complainant is then asked to comment on the
reply.
If satisfied, the case is treated as CLOSED

5. If not, the complainant can write back his point of view, in confidence, to
Core Centre and the concerned complaint manager again takes up the issue
with brand for resolution. Complainant is blocked to write any comments
directly once a response is published by the brand

6. Complaint Manager then looks at the whole case and tries to persuade brand
and complainant to arrive at a common resolution and closes the case with
the comments which are also published on the same blog

7. The blog has the entire flow of the complaint along with the responses,
which is made available for public viewing

8. Brands can register, to respond to the consumer complaints. Once registered,
Core Centre authenticates the details provided by them before activating
their account.

Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution, Govt. of India, issued
formal sanction for the CORE Centre Project, to be managed by Consumer
Coordination Council (CCC) on 15th February 2005. Shri Sharad Pawar, Hon'ble

2009-10-22 Thread Vamshi. G
Hi friends,

I'm delighted to inform you all that one of the beloved members of
our group, Mr. Rajesh Asudani has got promotion as assistant general
manager in Reserve Bank of India. He is the first blind person to be
appointed directly as the manager in RBI. Now he has created another
record by being the youngest blind person to be at the cadre of AGM.

Let us wish he moves further in the hierarchy and achieve greater
heights. He is a great source of inspiration and motivation for
infants in the banking sector like me. Besides paving the way for his
successors, he has also got the attitude to guide his imitators,
though not many can emulate him.

Personally, I am very happy and proud to be closely associated with a
person of his kind. I wish him all good luck both in his professional
and personal lives.

Let us also appreciate RBI for not discriminating against blindness in
it's promotion policies which has already been proved in the case of
Mr. Harish Kotian who has become an AGM not long ago.

Note: All wishes and greetings to Mr. Rajesh shall be directed to his
personal mail ID and not as replies to this mail which is against the
rules of the list. Having known about him for some time now, I'm sure
even he wouldn't argue on this.

His mail ID is
rajeshasud...@rbi.org.in
