The uv issue is a bit concerning. Especially if we need to run part way around
the house. Still on the fence about the biscuit. One more connection and some
expense. But this preterminated pushable stackable is pretty stiff and may not
work well with the router sitting on a kitchen counter.

Re: [AFMUG] CPE Install Costs.xlsx

2020-08-12 Thread Chris Fabien
Chuck, we are close to your proposed design. We use a Tii 506f NID, fusion
splice pigtail, pre-terminated cable assembly from NID to biscuit style
wall jack. Either a corning RuggedDrop for ~$25-35 or one of the blue
fiberstore cables Mark linked, which are our default unless we need to
house wrap or leave some exposed outside. From the Biscuit jack to modem
is also one of the blue armored FS patch cables. I think this approach is
the best balance of cheap and easy to install. You do need to have a tech
that can do a single fusion splice but otherwise it's an easy job.

This allows the fiber equipment to be in the house at the end. We could do an

Re: [AFMUG] replacing a CBRS AP

2020-08-12 Thread Ken Hohhof
Matt thanks, we did that today and all the SMs just moved automagically to
the replacement AP.

We imported a sector consisting of just the empty AP, and pre approved
onboarding in cnMaestro. It was Authorized and Waiting for Device. Once
the new AP was plugged in, it synced and enabled CBRS and the SMs moved over
without any manual intervention. Pretty cool.

Subject: Re: [AFMUG] replacing a CBRS AP

In my experience, you just CPI file a new empty AP and sync it once you have
it in place.
The SMs should move to the new AP in the SAS admin tool once they register
and the grants get re-used.

Then once the old AP is empty in cnMaestro SAS Admin tool you deregister the
old AP and delete it from the system.

No reason to refile all of the subs just to swap out the AP.

Ken,
since the addition of the export button in the management tool it makes it

The key is ensuring you have a current sheet with all of your sector info
and subs info up to date.
update the sheet with new AP and your ready to go.

Of course to answer your question to make a smoother transition is to place
the new ap into part 90
so you obtain all of your subs then update your management tool.

I am sure someone here may correct me if im wrong.

Has anyone figured out the best procedure for replacing a Cambium CBRS AP?

I'm guessing there is something more elegant and less disruptive than
deleting the whole sector while the tech is swapping out the AP and then re
importing into cnMaestro from a spreadsheet and hoping everything goes
smoothly and customers are only down for a few minutes.

I'm talking about replacing an AP that is in service but with issues. Over
the years we've run into RF issues with the original connectorized 450 APs.
I've never established whether it's the AP or the sector antenna, but
replacing it solves the modulation and V/H ratio issues.

The same procedure would also apply if you are upgrading to a 450i or 450m
AP.

11 minutes in illinois is the soft boil, 10 gets you still having liquid
yolk. I dont know what altitude this changes at, like if i move to the ten
story apartment building or if we are talking 1000s of feet. All I know is
that I can never move just to be safe

2020-08-12 Thread Bill Prince

Robert Kearns.

He tried to sell the invention to all of the big three, and they
  all rejected it.

He ended up in a big legal fight with Ford (after they had put it
in a couple of cars), and when Ford lost that battle, he won
  concessions from GM and Chrysler.

The movie was Flash

Why do germans drink warm beer?   They have Lucas

Lucas Electric - inventor of the intermittent wiper

Lucas Motto - get home before dark!

Lucas three-way light - dim, flicker, off

I still have my 73 MGB.  Actually a pretty reliable car
all things considered.  Has never yet left me stranded by

into submission a few times, drove it home without a spark
plug in a cylinder, listened to the rod knock the last 10
miles home, etc.   I really don’t have that much trouble

I remember a movie about a guy that fought a legal battle over the intermittent
wiper. American guy. Took on GM I think but it was a pyrrhic battle.

Joseph Lucas, the prince of darkness.

Why do germans drink warm beer? They have Lucas refrigerators

Lucas Electric - inventor of the intermittent wiper

Lucas Motto - get home before dark!

Lucas three-way light - dim, flicker, off

I still have my 73 MGB. Actually a pretty reliable car all things considered.
Has never yet left me stranded by the side of the road. I have had to beat the
fuel pump into submission a few times, drove it home without a spark plug in a
cylinder, listened to the rod knock the last 10 miles home, etc. I really
don’t have that much trouble with the electrical system though (says the
electrical engineer…).

Re: [AFMUG] Poor Dishes on a Tower

2020-08-12 Thread Mark Radabaugh
The older SU dual carbs work OK.

The biggest issue with the electrical system is the bullet electrical
connectors. The bullet isn’t so bad - it’s soldered on the end of the wire.
The connector that the bullet goes in is the weak link. It eventually gets wet
and corrodes and the brass looses it’s tension, heats up, and then just gets
worse. Unfortunatly there are a number of those connectors under the car in
the road spray, lots just inside the front grill, and others below the carpet
in a convertible. All places that get wet sooner or later. Filling them with
silicon grease (yep - just like what works in a RJ-45) largely solves the issue
for good.

We do instant pot but 5 min, then 5 min before release and then 5 min in ice
water. We’ve done as many as 6 doz in the 8quart instant pot all at once.
Never had eggs that pealed so easy. We mostly do fresh eggs but sometimes if
the chickens aren’t keeping up there could be some from the store (mostly for
Easter eggs since most of our chickens lay brown eggs so we buy white for the
kids to color). If you like the eggs softer, you do 4 min on the cook then 5
and 5. I’ll have to try Lewis’ 6 min then quick release to see how it
compares.

Just to screw with you, I cook mine in the instapot for 6 minutes, rapid steam

The science is settled once and for all, this is hard city water in an aluminum

Perfect yellow yolk, zero green. 14 minutes after the first egg is ladled in.

The quench is key for peelability.

I havent left themninnthe quench for more than a couple minutes, too long and I

Re: [AFMUG] Ot: illinois boiled eggs 14 minutes

2020-08-12 Thread James Howard
We’ve forgotten to set the timer for the 5minutes where you wait to release
pressure and left them in 10 or more a couple of times. That results in what
you want with green starting probably after 7 or so minutes. I’d say 6-7
minutes before release would give you what you want. Gonna try what Lewis
suggested though. Might be that 7-8 minute cooking time and then instant
release gives your desired result.

But are they truly hard boiled? I want mine totally non-gel in they yolk.
Yellow, crumbly.

Mine was probably a 80 or 81. I had a really nice brand new (maybe had it a
year or so) 79 V8 Monza. Also modified with all the smog gear off and nice
exhaust. My nephew/brother borrowed it one night. They went to the drive in
and someone puked in it it. They took out the dome light bulb and probably
dropped it because it was hot and it burned a hole in the vinyl seat. I was
sooo pissed off I went right to the Chevy dealship and bought the Z28 right off
the show room floor. Told nephew he never gets to drive that car.

Then a few years later came the wife and kid ;-).

The car did help to woo her. She loved driving it too and being seen driving
it by her girlfriends.
Looked a bit odd when I put the ski racks on it.

If you like the eggs softer, you do 4 min on the cook then 5
and 5. I’ll have to try Lewis’ 6 min then quick release to see how it
compares.

Just to screw with you, I cook mine in the instapot for 6 minutes, rapid steam
release. All other details are the same. Good job Steve. You can now die happy
knowing your life has been well lived.

The colder the quench water the better the peel

If the quench isnt ice cold, drop back into boil for 30 seconds to steam

The science is settled once and for all, this is hard city water in an
aluminum pot. Anywhere between a half gallon and gallon and a half, anywhere

Perfect yellow yolk, zero green. 14 minutes after the first egg is ladled in.

The quench is key for peelability.

I havent left themninnthe quench for more than a couple minutes, too long and
I bet the inner shell is saturated, may peel better, but will probably spoil

Not sure how that will work with several other conferences still

Re: [AFMUG] Ot: illinois boiled eggs 14 minutes

2020-08-12 Thread James Howard
We do instant pot but 5 min, then 5 min before release and then 5 min in ice
water. We've done as many as 6 doz in the 8quart instant pot all at once.
Never had eggs that pealed so easy. We mostly do fresh eggs but sometimes if
the chickens aren't keeping up there could be some from the store (mostly for
Easter eggs since most of our chickens lay brown eggs so we buy white for the
kids to color). If you like the eggs softer, you do 4 min on the cook then 5
and 5. I'll have to try Lewis' 6 min then quick release to see how it
compares.

Yes they are vented at the top. Yes they are mostly empty, getting ready for
the upcoming harvest. Yes they get a lot of their
structural strength from being full of corn. This picture is from Luther Iowa.
Winds have been estimated at 100 MPH.

I imagine if they are sealed up tight, any large change in air pressure puts
quite a bit of stress on a container that large and thin. But I think there are
vents on the top. Been quite some time since I was on the top of one of those.

Little early in the summer for them to be full too, right? I am sure they are
hella strong if full.

eventually we will just put all our gear on big blue igloos.

I saw a bunch of pics from iowa, done knoe what hit them but the bins looked
like they were punched in from the top, is there a circumstance that causes a
massive vacuum in a full bin during storms?

Re: [AFMUG] Ot: illinois boiled eggs 14 minutes

2020-08-12 Thread Adam Moffett
I put the eggs in the pot first, then add water, then bring to a boil,
then 13 minutes from start of boil I pull them off the stove and quench
them in cold water.

No trauma to the shells since they were already in the pot rather than
dropping them into the boiling water.

Steve, start with eggs cold or room temperature?  14 minutes sounds
like a long time, I haven’t made them in a while, but I’m thinking
more like 11.

Also inevitably at least one would crack and leak, sometimes rather
dramatically.  That might also have been from using cold eggs right
out of the fridge.

D@m^it.   Probably better you don’t tell me, not sure I could handle
the temptation.

Seriously, when we were kids, every extended family gathering someone
would make deviled eggs, and you watched to see which aunt brought
them each time, because some made way better ones than others.   Ah,
the days of family buffets and over eating.   May never see that again……

The colder the quench water the better the peel

If the quench isnt ice cold, drop back into boil for 30
seconds to steam separate the shell.

The science is settled once and for all, this is hard city
water in an aluminum pot. Anywhere between a half gallon and
gallon and a half, anywhere between 6 and 36 eggs.

Perfect yellow yolk, zero green. 14 minutes after the first
egg is ladled in.

The quench is key for peelability.

I havent left themninnthe quench for more than a couple
minutes, too long and I bet the inner shell is saturated, may
peel better, but will probably spoil faster.

I dont know my mean ASL here. I was concerned because our
water plant added a "flavoring" system, but there was no
change in results.

My lifes work is complete, I'm not certain where to go from
here, but I have a garden full of trinidad scorpions that may
be involved in my future path. That and getting jaime to try
peppered rice vinegar.

Just to screw with you, I cook mine in the instapot for 6 minutes, rapid
steam release. All other details are the same. Good job Steve. You can now
die happy knowing your life has been well lived.
