Re: [AFMUG] 8-12 SFP port non-MT switch?

2021-02-03 Thread Josh Baird
I'll second this. I wouldn't touch CRS for years because of weird bugs and
terrible L2 VLAN config.

The CRS3XX switches have been pretty stable for us (*knocks on wood*) and
the VLAN configuration, while completely different than Cisco/Juni EX, is
leaps and bounds better than it used to be.

The crs have improved quite a bit from the crs1x and crs2x flavor. The new
vlan scheme is much easier to configure as well.

He feels they’re flaky. My experience is that they sometimes do inexplicable
things. If you get them to work they work fine, but Juniper works always
basically. I have a CCR I’m fighting with port rate limiting, which is
“supposed” to work but does nothing. No help on the forums besides “hey, that’s
really interesting”, stuff like that. If you get MT support it costs the same
as Juniper/Cisco from what I’ve found. At that point, you could just get a
Juniper/Cisco.

not Mikrotik to mount in remote cabinets where he needs more fiber out of a

Re: [AFMUG] Battery recommendations at fiber hut

2021-02-03 Thread TJ Trout
I think you want the lvd below (not above) the bms cut volts, once the
rectifier powers back up the bms will automatically reconnect.

Ideally you want to adjust the charge profile and float voltage, if using
sla type rectifier just the float and charge current is sufficient I think.

We have been using PowerTec Solutions

We have 4 of them setup in the fiber hut.

They have a BMS to protect the batteries from overcharging /
 overcurrenting

What kind of things should I be looking for? I thought these looked

Runtime upwards of 3.2 hours (obviously there will be loss, but

That's kinda how I feel, but there were rumors that UBNT was going to
stop selling the bare radios and only sell them in the kit with the
dish, so now you'd end up with a bunch of dishes you'd just throw out.
At least repaired radios would sit on the shelf nicely.

bottom of our telco rack. For the 60AH ones we put them in a

Re: [AFMUG] Battery recommendations at fiber hut

2021-02-03 Thread Josh Luthman
Specifically for ICT, you need to adjust the LVD to be higher than the
BMS's cut off. If you let it drop with the BMS, it's 0v and then the
battery is basically gone until you reset it (like drive out there and
physically push a button). Float voltage I'm told you need to change, too.

Looking at the NSB100FT RED, these are nearly a foot tall. Are you
mounting them in the rack? That's 7U of space, which I suppose isn't
massive (I was previously looking at lithium ion before learning about the
complications, that was 6U).

Re: [AFMUG] Airfiber Repairs

2021-02-03 Thread Mathew Howard
Personally, I wouldn't bother getting one repaired for $600. Even at
$300-400, I don't think I would, other than maybe to use as a spare, but
for $600, you aren't saving enough to be worth it over buying a new one, in
my opinion.

Re: [AFMUG] Cambium's new 802.11ax ePMP PTP solution, the ePMP Force 400 Series -- 1GBps PTP

2021-02-03 Thread Josh Luthman
Me Josh?

I've got a PTP Force425 up between a 4 story building and a tiny little
Rohn SSV about 4 miles away. It was a Force 200-25. Signal is great, only
noise is us, etc. We get 12.5 b/hz. So 20 MHz is 250 mbps. I can ramp
that up to 500 mbps for 40 MHz and, while I haven't tried it, upwards of
1gbps in 80 MHz.

Hardware is wonderful, we get the perfected Force 200 hardware back. The
only complaint I have is we're switching to 48v. So far an AC site it's
just a minor inconvenience but for a DC without a 48v bus you're going to
need a solution.

It's a great product. It's Cambium. Not sure what else there is to say -
buy them, hang them, move on to the next install.

[AFMUG] Airfiber Repairs

2021-02-03 Thread Nate Burke
Anybody do Airfiber repairs? I have a couple AF11 units that are dead
to me unless someone can fix them.

One shorts the power supply as soon as it's plugged in (lightening
storm, but no external physical damage).

Another looses Ethernet when the ambient temp is <15F.

A $300 or $400 repair is cheaper than a new one.

Once upon a time UNBT was doing some sort of repair program, but I think
that might have only been for the 24ghz radios.

A quick google search returned SWG. Anybody use them? Says $600 for a
AF11 repair.
