Re: [AFMUG] HDD per foot cost

2022-12-22 Thread Trey Scarborough
for that type of project in that area I would say you are probably
looking at $20 a ft mainly do to it being a small gig so your pricing
will be  higher. If you had several Jobs like this you may be able to
get  the pricing down some, or you catch it being close to other work
they have.

Re: [AFMUG] MUX Monitor port

2022-12-22 Thread Trey Scarborough
typically unless you have a roadm or something that will be causing the
individual channels to change or you can remotely attenuate them a
permanently installed monitor isn't necessary. If its just a static
filters at each end I would recommend just purchasing a channel checker
or simple OSA.

channel checker like this
https://www.fiberinstrumentsales.com/jdsu-channel-checker.html

OSA I would recommend picking up a used JDSU 6000 and a OSA-110M they
can be picked up for descent prices.

Fiber multiplexers usually have a monitor port and 1%-5% of the light
is sent to the monitor port so you can know the status of each wave.

That’s all well and good, but what device can I plug into the monitor
port if I actually want to monitor them?  I have an OPM of course, but
is there a network managed, SNMP capable device that I can get for this?

It must exist, but my Google Fu is not working.

Re: [AFMUG] HDD per foot cost

2022-12-22 Thread dmmoffett
We can get drop cable plowed by a reputable, insured contractor for $3.50 on a
good day, but OSP cable in a duct is a different story.

To get under $3.50 we’d be dealing with a one-man band moonlighting as an
excavator.

In NY there’s more work than there are contractors to do it so that may have
something to do with the prices.

[AFMUG] HDD per foot cost

2022-12-22 Thread Carl Peterson
What is the going rate per foot for HDD drilling and pullback of two SDR11
ducts and a trace wire? Very sandy soil in the FL panhandle. All
materials provided? Around 4-5K' split into three or four runs.
