What Bill said is a simple fact.

Having said that, it's a stereotype for a reason. The large majority of people

Personally I've been burned every time so I'm kind of done. Maybe you're a

Re: [AFMUG] OT Hiring guys off the street

2021-06-14 Thread Steve Jones
are you actually asking how to hire illegals and get away with it?

think of it like this, pretend youre a crack addict, and youre spending all
the company funds on crack. whatever way youd make your accountant accept
where the dough went for crack would be the same for disappearing the
illegal immigrant payouts.

If they make less than $600 you don't have to file a 1099. I'd put it down as
contract labor with a name. Just make sure you don't pay them more than $600.
If you are getting the same guys over and over, then it's 1099 time.

Sounds like the ideal solution is to hire guys from “Steve’s Temp Agency and

Fyi, if you have a big hole out black and shoot them at the end of the workday,
nobody has to be paid, and over time that hole becomes some prime fertilizer as
a secondary revenue stream.its best to spread your hiring amongst multiple home
depot's though so as not to deplete inventory too quickly

If they make less than $600 you don't have to file a 1099. I'd put it down as
contract labor with a name. Just make sure you don't pay them more than $600.
If you are getting the same guys over and over, then it's 1099 time.

I dont think its your responsibility to ensure receipt of a w2, you just need a
place to send it from a paper with their signature on it.

Fyi, if you have a big hole out black and shoot them at the end of the
workday, nobody has to be paid, and over time that hole becomes some prime
fertilizer as a secondary revenue stream.its best to spread your hiring
amongst multiple home depot's though so as not to deplete inventory too
quickly

If it's anything like Wisconsin they will say that you have to prove that they
qualify as an independent contractor. One of the main qualifiers for being an
independent contractor is that they can ONLY use your own equipment or tools,

You would have to account for their payroll and pay for them if your
insurance company will even allow it. It looks like most won't take you on
and many will drop you if you use day labor.

For us in Canada, people could easily sit on their couches at home
collecting CERB, making over minimum wage. As such our hiring for junior
fiber crew - paying quite a bit more than minimum wage, but involving
digging holes etc - was not going well over the last few months.

Sadly it's most likely people on unemployment not showing up as the law
requires you to show proof of submitting resumes but not interviews to stay
on unemployment

Then you get the people who are forced to apply for jobs they don't want by
their wife or parents

easily say, "Let me check my schedule and get back to you."
I'm guessing we see the same 20% issue that you are seeing.

Remind me where you are from Chuck? We had all sorts of difficulties finding
good people down in the USA. Pay was better in all the other industries,
especially oil. So nobody would go to a job that paid so much less. You looking
for installers, techs?

I find this is a problem in a lot of areas finding people who "get it" in this
industry. There really is no school for it and most WISPs are self taught self
motivated people with some original skills. So people coming in need to have a
desire to work and learn something new our our brand of wireless. Problem is
most wireless engineers get into it for big dollars at a major telecom.

Re: [AFMUG] OT Hiring

2020-03-10 Thread Ken Hohhof
Some people are not “morning people”. Maybe schedule interviews in the
afternoon. On the other hand, if the job involves showing up at 8am, maybe
this is the first test and it is working. The first step to success is showing
up.

Elon Musk reportedly called a 1am Sunday meeting and then hired 250 people over
the next 48 hours. What’s his secret?

I once showed up for an interview an hour late due to the time change.
Amazingly, I got the job, you’d think that would have disqualified me. In my

I find it astounding that people would not show up for a scheduled
interview. Am I that far behind the times? Even if this was "social
distancing" due to coronavirus, I'd think people would call/email/text to
cancel.

So far 0 out of the first 4 have shown up. Last time we did this the ratio

I cannot understand why a person agrees to an interview and then doesn't go.
