One other thing is that the diplexer is external, and reversible (no
hi/low radio business). So I assume that the two N connectors go to the
diplexer, and perhaps the diplexer has the wave guide on it? I don't
know, I'm just speculating.

I still don't understand what makes ubnt think they're special and
can't put a radio with a cylindrical waveguide directly on the rear of
a dish, such as with a four-bolt REMEC mount.

Good to hear they are planning on direct DC wiring terminals. Who
wants to bet they successfully put direct -48VDC power capability on
the radio (42 to 56VDC) but don't include an SFP cage?

[AFMUG] 25 gigabit ethernet is coming - and cheap

2016-06-29 Thread Eric Kuhnke
For the past several hours I've been reading documents/PDFs from the last
Open Compute Summit and other datacenter/cloud scale collaborative
projects...

One of the things we're going to see very soon is fast and cheap SFP28 for
25 gigabit ethernet. White box switch equipment manufacturers in Taiwan and
China have taken one quarter of the data lanes used for 100 gigabit
ethernet (which is usually implemented with 4 x 25 Gbps
serializer/deserializers on the silicon side) and made it work with a 25
Gbps SFP+ form factor.

Since it's the same size as a SFP+, possible to build a 48-port x 25 Gbps
linecard or switch in a normal rack form factor.

Already I'm seeing SFP28 direct attach cables for server-to-switch at $59
each.

Breakout direct attach cables that take one QSFP28 100GbE port and turn it
into 4 x 25GbE at about $200 each.

There are 25Gbps SFP28 1310nm optical, nominally 10km reach optics.

So... It will have four N connectors and four short jumper cables to a rear
feed on a dish? That will be quite a bit more complicated than a rear
wavguide/feed adapter which just has two polarity offset H and V pol N
connectors.

I still don't understand what makes ubnt think they're special and can't
put a radio with a cylindrical waveguide directly on the rear of a dish,
such as with a four-bolt REMEC mount.

Good to hear they are planning on direct DC wiring terminals. Who wants to
bet they successfully put direct -48VDC power capability on the radio (42
to 56VDC) but don't include an SFP cage?

Coincidentally, I was going to ask a similar question.

I’m looking for suggestions for a 60’-80’ tower (preferred guyed) that will
hold a 4’ dish. The STG looks like it may work well.

I left an AP running on the bench for a few days transmitting without an

I've read that some of it is just getting the review site to enforce their own
TOS. If the reviewer is using profanity or attacking particular people in your
company you might be able to get the site to delete it. That's at least part
of reputation management. You can also appeal to the reviewer to delete or
alter their review, say you're sorry and give them coupons or something.

I suspect it's partly a matter of having enough time to look at all the reviews
and deal with them.

I can understand older reviews in general falling off at some point.
Otherwise, how would a company "fix" issues. So I would understand
older reviews, regardless of whether they're positive or negative
"falling off". OTOH, some way to reduce their significance would work too.

For example, if you were a service company, and had personnel issues 5
years ago; replaced the problem employees (or other issue), and have
gotten only positive reviews since, why wouldn't you want those old
reviews to be reduced in significance, or dropped at some point? The
issue for me is where you draw the line.

are one thing, jail is a totally different ball of wax that gets worse
when jail becomes prison (privately run, federally funded

According to their site, you cannot pay to remove them.

Whether that is really true or not, I have no idea.. but they seem
pretty firm on it on their site.

What about older positive reviews?

I can understand older reviews in general falling off at some point.
Otherwise, how would a company "fix" issues. So I would understand
older reviews, regardless of whether they're positive or negative
"falling off". OTOH, some way to reduce their significance would work too.

For example, if you were a service company, and had personnel issues 5
years ago; replaced the problem employees (or other issue), and have
gotten only positive reviews since, why wouldn't you want those old
reviews to be reduced in significance, or dropped at some point? The
issue for me is where you draw the line.

I hope not. I suppose that if you were worried you could turn the
channel to "None". If it's an SM my understanding is that it just
listens until it hears your AP.

I want to upgrade firmware / test an old radio before bringing it up
to the roof if I can (antenna is already up, don't have a spare at
this location).

Odd, I see Glassdoor takes off negative reviews now. Not sure the mechanism
but I see that some older negative reviews fell off a couple of companies that
I was involved with. I am wondering if an employer can pay for this.

The subs will not transmit until an AP talks to them.

Do the 900 MHz PMP100 radios have any issues being powered on without an
attached antenna?

I want to upgrade firmware / test an old radio before bringing it up to the
roof if I can (antenna is already up, don't have a spare at this location).

The 10/100 has been shipping for a couple of weeks. The gigabit ones are
just waiting until I get home end of week (unless the boards aren't there
yet).

Personally, I'd use the gigabit ones unless you need to power 320 or 430
radios. Everything else is ok on the gigabit, and the gigabit supports all
four pair powering as needed for the airfiber and other radios.
