I’m in agreement with that. Actually, I think Josh might have taken your
initial comment about minimal population wrong. He was probably thinking of it
in the line of numbers of potential customers (in which case the mentally
disturbed ones aren’t bad as long as they pay their bills) and you meaning it
as a negative.

Will it play in Peoria was based on the population center of the US. Which in
1960 was approx Peoria.
It is headed toward Texas...

Fun fact from a TV show I saw the other day – Richard Pryor was born in Peoria.
My sister went to Bradley University for a year.
“Will it play in Peoria” means will it appeal to mainstream America.
Actually, it’s just fun to say Peoria.
Almost as much fun as pronouncing Cairo the local way.
Another fun fact – southern Illinois is known as Little Egypt.

Re: [AFMUG] ack....here we go again

2015-03-04 Thread Josh Reynolds
Global warming causes temperature changes in different geographic areas.
We have had snow three times here in Homer Alaska, but most of the winter has been very mild. While the central US and east/south have been "frozen", its been in the 40s here.
This was the warmest average winter in Alaska on record, and globally the highest recorded average temp / year on record for 2014.
Just FYI.

Re: [AFMUG] ack....here we go again

2015-03-04 Thread Bill Prince
I grew up in central Illinois. Don't miss that place for a minute.
Moved to Minnesota in the middle of High School. I liked living there
better than Illinois, in spite of the brutal winters. Never knew how
nice weather could be until I moved to California; even when it's "bad",
it is a cake walk compared to most other places.

2015-03-04 Thread Glen Waldrop
You have 60*F swings in 12 hours in yankeeville? lol

Everyone is joking about it, but it is not even a big deal to wear shorts and
sandals during the day and Eskimo gear after dark this time of year.

When I was 17, my first big "grown up" trip on my own was to spend the week
with my aunt and cousins. I grabbed shoes, shorts, socks and tshirts. It was 85
when I got to Tuscaloosa, the next three days barely broke 27*F and the power
was inconsistent. Good thing my cousin and I were the same size at the time,
otherwise I would have frozen.
