Nope, KMPlayer was Korean Media Player a available for Windows platform only. 
It was the first player which could play MKV formats (non-English version btw), 
thus became famous. Now since VLC player can play almost all formats on all 
platform, there's really no reason to use KMPlayer now. Anyways, media players 
are always depend on personal preference.

Well my point was, it has nothing to do with KDE's Kmplayer.

And yes, VLC is cool enough for all formats.

Any Miro fan out there? Moro is cool as well, you can play all formats (all 
that VLC can), download from YouTube and other streaming sites, download 
torrents and use it as video media library, all from the single app. Nice!

[Ubuntu-BD] iOS 4 and Bangla fonts

Hi,

Just wanted to share that now iPhone with iOS4 supports systemwide Bangla 
perfectly.

This would be the first smartphone which supports Bangla! I'm excited :)

(please don't start arguing how cool Opera Mini is and how it can 
server-side-render complex Asian fonts)

It is not the Bangladesh server. I had the same problem for "Main Server"
and "US Server" as well. It couldn't download only one font from the server.
Later, I downloaded that problematic from somewhere else, and copied it in
the archive folder. That did the trick!

If you were interested checking out Android OS. You can do it by this
emulator. I am liking it and my next handheld will be something
powered by Android that's for sure.

[Ubuntu-BD] Back to Ubuntu, DST help

দীর্ঘদিন ম্যাক ওএস এক্স এবং ম্যাক ওএস এক্স সার্ভার  নিয়ে ঘসামাজা করে, শখ
মিটিয়ে ফেরত আসলাম উবুন্টু তে। ম্যাক ওএসে কোন ঝামেলাই নাই, আর আমার ঝামেলা
ছাড়া কম্পিউটার চালানোতে মজা লাগেনা।
শুধুমাত্র ঝামেলা বাড়ানোর জন্য পিসি, ল্যাপটপ আর উইন্ডোজ মোবাইল ব্যবহার করা
শুরু করলাম, আশ্চর্য হলেও সত্য, উইন্ডোজেও কোন সমস্যা নাই। এরপর আর নয়, চলে
আসলাম উবুন্টুতে।

৮.০৪ পর ৯.০৪ প্রথম ব্যবহার করছি। ৮.০৪-ও বেশি ব্যবহার করি নাই, তারপরেও ৯.০৪-ও
নেটওয়ার্ক ছাড়া তেমন কোন পরিবর্তন পেলাম না। তবে আমার নতুন ইন্টারনেট কানেকশন
(Zip FON) PPPoE এর সেটআপ যে ঝামেলা ছাড়াই করা গেল তাতেই আমি খুশি।

এখন ২ টা ঝামেলা,

১. Bangladesh DST Time (Timezone) কিভাবে ঠিক করে?
২. Hardware Drivers দিয়ে আমার nVidia 8400GS পাচ্ছে না।

আর কার কাছ খেকে ৯.০৪ ডিভিডি-টা পেতে পারি? জানাবেন সম্ভব হলে।

Question 1, do you have GCC installed? Check the header library as well.Which
kernel are you using?

Using 9.04 should be stable on MacBook.

I still don't see any reason to use any antivirus on Ubuntu/Linux.

Unices is the most commonly used "plural" of Unix. They did not misspelled it.

yes Kenneth, you got it right. I do not have any working active
directory or open directory. The linux server will be the standalone
authentication server. Let of know if it is possible (and how).

সবার মনে হয় নকিয়া ৩১১০ নাই।

তবে এরকম বাগ রিপোর্ট করার থেকে না করাই ভালো। আপনাকে বলা হলো যে লগ টা
কপি করে দিতে, আপনি তো ভেগে এলেন।
শুধু বাগ রিপোর্ট করলেই হবে না, বাগ-মারা শেষ না হওয়া পর্যন্ত লেগে থাকতে
হবে যাতে সমস্যার সমাধান হয়। আপনার যে সমস্যা হচ্ছে তার system replicate
করা আরেকজনের পক্ষে সম্ভব নাও হতে পারে, আর সেটি করতে না পারলে বাগটির
priority কমিয়ে দেওয়া হবে, আর অচিরেই close করে দেওয়া হতে পারে।

আমার কাছে ৩১১০ নাই, আমি পরে (শনিবার) ই৫১/৫৮০০এক্সএম লাগিয়ে দেখে জানাবো।

Thanks for your reply. All of the solutions need a running Active Directory
server which is not the solution. If I already have an Active Directory
server, why would I care for an additional Linux server?
I need a standalone Linux server which can authenticate Windows/Mac clients.
If it is not possible, then Windows server is the solution (unfortunately).

@shiplu: অনেক অনেক ধন্যবাদ লিঙ্কটি দেওয়ার জন্য। মোবাইল ফোন থেকেই এই
মেইলটা প্রথমবার চেক করছিলাম, তাই প্রজন্ম ফোরামের পোস্ট-টাও পড়তে পারি
নাই (ডার্কলর্ড ভাইয়ের মেইলটাও)। কিন্তু মজার ব্যাপার, ওই পোস্ট-টায়
ইংরেজিতে "opera:config". "use bitmap fonts for complex script" ...
Yes ... save... কথাগুলো থাকায় বুঝে গিয়েছিলাম কাহিনী কি :D এরপর অপেরা
মিনিতে সেটিংস ঠিক করে দেখলাম সব ফকফকা। কি আনন্দ!

এখন সমস্যা হল একটাই, আমি মূলত ডিফল্ট ব্রাউজার টাই বেশি ব্যবহার করি
(Nokia OSS S60 browser). আর Opera Mobile (S60) টা ব্যবহার করি। কারন
একটাই, অনেক দ্রুতগতির। আর দুটাই Adobe Flash Lite আর JavaScript সমর্থন
করে। Opera Mini তো এতোকিছু করে না। তবে আপাতত চালানোর জন্য ঠিকই আছে, এই
মেইলিং লিস্টের মেইলগুলো পড়তেই পারলেই হবে আমার :D

ব্যাক-আপ রাখার দরকার হয় নাই। বাংলা যে ফন্ট-টা কপি করেছিলাম, সেটা মুছে
ফেললেই সব ঠিক হয়ে যায়। জেনেই কপি করেছিলাম আসলে।
আর ভাই, আমার ফোনটা মোটেও দামি না। যারা কমদামে কোন ফোন কিনতে চাচ্ছেন,
তাদের সবাইকে উপদেশ দিব নকিয়া ৬১২০ ক্লাসিক কেনার। এটা কেনার পর থেকে আমি
আমার পিসি আর ল্যাপটপ দুটাই ব্যবহার করা বন্ধ করে দিয়েছি। আফসোস একটাই
এটায় WLAN নাই (আমার বাসায় ওয়্যারলেস নেটওয়ার্ক করা আছে)। দেখি ৫৮০০টা
বের হোক ...

[Ubuntu-BD] Bangla font for mobile devices?

Hi everyone, I am back after a long break. I didn¹t have internet connection
on PC for a long time. I guess it¹s back now.

For the time being I used my cellphone¹s IMAP mail client some times the
Gmail App. But the problem is, I can¹t see any Bangla fonts.

I was wondering, specially after seeing Dark Lord¹s signature, that how to
use Bangla fonts on in a mobile device? I am using Nokia 6120 Classic. A S60
phone. I have tried the method of copying Bangla font in the System¹s font
folder, that sort of works with unreadable Bangla (no juktakkhor and
misplaced akar-ikar) and as a bonus I get the existing English font
distorted.

Nokia Care centers aren¹t helpful at all. So, don¹t counting them at all by
the way.


Off topic: 

Does anyone know how to sue a fast food shop or restaurant? I literally want
to sue Golpea Burger at Bailey Road. I became sick after consuming their
burger there. After the delivery, I asked them if it was made yesterday or
something, they assured me that it was a fresh one. It wasn¹t.

if you have 512MB RAM, you can try both Mint Main and Light editions.
If you want to use VirtualBox, you'll be able to use 256MB RAM for VM,
but it is not recommended. If you work on only the virtual machine,
you won't be in much trouble though.

This time your SWAP drive would come in handy. Keep at least 512MB to
1GB SWAP partition.

Try to increase the RAM if possible.

Linux Mint's default desktop is GNOME, yes. It is known as Main Edition.
There are three other versions of Mint, called community edition (CE).
Those are KDE, Xfxe and Fluxbox.
There are two other releases, 64bit and Light edition (both are GNOME).

If you are looking for a real lightweight distro, your choice should
be Xfce or Fluxbox. (2nd one is lighter).

Open Java is the open source version of Java (both are developed,
released and controlled by Sun Microsystems).

JDK = Java Development Kit
JRE = Java Runtime Environment

JDK is for developers, JRE is for the users.

If you are not a developer, you do not need JDK installed. But even if
you did, it doesn't matter :P JDK is supposed to have JRE in it.

I have seen this exact problem at my best friend's home. Her problem
solved when she got a new DVD drive.
Well, I had this same problem with some other operating system DVD as
well, solved it by getting a new DVD±RW.

In both cases, we were able to copy files. But for some reason it
doesn't work when running live.

Answer me an unusual question, can you watch all DVD movies without any problem?

Try plugging an external DVD drive.

By the way, try Wine Door. It's intuitive GUI will tell you what to do!

1. Default ubuntu installation takes around 2.5GB afaik. If you do not
install a loads of stuff 5/6GB is alright I guess.
But remember, by default your home directory is in your root
partition. Whatever you keep on your desktop and home directory gets
stored in your root partition. So it is upto you. A good practice is
to make another partition as "/home" for a dedicated home folder
(everything you want to store).

If you want to take screenshots of a running OS in a virtual machine
(VM), you have to use your guest operating system's screenshot method.
(print screen and/or any other software). Since a VM runs as any other
application, it doesn't matter when you are taking the sceenshot, just
take it ;)

2. I have no idea, but my opinion is, even if it is possible it is not
a good idea to change the size of the root partition. Why don't you
give it a try? Why not try it in a virtual machine? :D

আপনার সমস্যাটি আরো ভালভাবে বলা প্রয়োজন। আপনি কিভাবে নেট-এ কানেক্ট
করতেন, ব্রডব্যান্ড/মোবাইল ওয়্যারলেস্ নাকি, আইপি/ম্যাক কিছু বদলিয়ে নিতে
হত নাকি এসবও জানাবেন।

Click on Devices, from the drop down menu click on Install Guest Additions ...
It is supposed to mount a CD image itself. If not, click on the CD
icon below, an manually mount it.

It should run the appropriate installer itself, if that does not
happen, from my computer get into the CD, and run it manually.

You must install the guest addition, as it installs - keyboard, mouse,
video, audio, usb, shared folders and other drivers.
Finally, DO NOT FORGET TO ENABLE SHARING FROM WINDOWS XP.

For to mention, the closed source VB comes with Guest Addition
installer. You need to install it for USB, audio, video and SHARED
FOLDERS (confirmed).
I just checked it, working fine.

If you have downloaded VirtualBox from Ubuntu repository, you have
downloaded the VirtualBox OSE (Open Source Edition),
Which has limited features.

@ Omi Azad, shared folder worked for me everytime. Only last two minor
versions of VirtualBox 1.x has some problems.

Two notes,

1. The shared folder name you are adding on VirtualBox must be the
name of a shared folder from the host OS.
2. Do not forget to enable sharing from the guest OS as well.

You can use the "shared folder" option. Using this, you can share
folders from your host OS which will be accessible by the guest ones.

Note: If you are using VirtualBox OSE, I don't know if the shared
folder works on this version or not.

Can't give you any solid example as I am not using any. Give it a try!
Otherwise, I'll install VB and a guest OS and let you know later.

উবুন্টু লিখলেই উবুন্টুর ম্যানুয়াল হয়ে যায়। তবে সমস্যা ২টি।
১. আমি পুরাপুরি শেষ করতে পারিনি। ৬০% বা বেশি করা হয়েছে মাত্র।
২. আমার বাংলাতে অনেক ভুল আছে, সেটা ঠিক করতেই হবে।

যেহেতু এটা আমি এখনো মিন্টকে দেই নাই, এটা এখনো আমার মালিকানায় আছে!
সুতরাং যদি আমি এটা দিয়ে কোন সাহায্য করতে পারি আমাকে জানাবেন।

Then we should stop pushing windows users to start using Linux or  
anything else.

By the way, yesterday, an old friend of mine declared that "you lost a  
friend" after I refused to install Windows in his computer. I  
suggested him that I can install Ubuntu for you but no pirated Windows.

any mirror)

If you have download problem, I'd ask you to try DSL (Damn Small  
Linux) it is only 50MB in size!

Damn Small is small enough and smart enough to do the following things:

You'll need ubuntu alternate CD or the DVD. You'll be able to install  
in a 128MB RAM PC with them.
BUT, you won't be able to use the graphical desktop.

Did you try with the Live CD? Check that out first. You'll understand.

Even if you install Ubuntu for 256MB RAM, the performance would to be  
too sluggish to use anything else.

I'd suggest to get Xubuntu. Xubuntu is made for 128MB RAM PCs.

Ubuntu's minimum requirement is 384MB RAM. So, you won't be able to  
install ubuntu in your PC.
Try to use the live CD, see if it runs.

If you do not want to mess with your partitions, then I usually ask  
people to use virtualBox. VirtualBox is a virtual machine which can  
run other operating system inside your existing operating system as  
just like any other software. Since your RAM is 256MB I can't suggest  
you that as well.

Another lightweight virtual machine called Wubi came with your Ubuntu  
disk. Try to install that. I do not have much idea about Wubi. Someone  
else might help you here.

Since you have 256MB RAM, I'd suggest you to try some lightweight  
linux distribution. Like Xubuntu! Or Damn Small Linux or Zenwalk.

Sorry I don't have any Bangla software installed right now. So wrote  
it in English.

Recommended minimum requirements

Ubuntu should run reasonably well on a computer with the following  
minimum hardware specification. However, features such as visual  
effects may not run smoothly.

 * 700 MHz x86 processor
 * 384 MB of system memory (RAM)
 * 8 GB of disk space
 * Graphics card capable of 1024x768 resolution
 * Sound card
 * A network or Internet connection

Azureus is useless. I didn't find any advantage of using it.  
Transmission does the same thing with way too low resource.

As you were asking about p2p software, you can try Limewire. They have  
the Linux version.

Use AptonCD to create personal repository from your existing  
repository. I has the options for both CD and DVD. Though it seems to  
add only selective packages.

There are some bootable hard drive health test utilities. You'll find

Edit the sources list, for some reason server installation blocks the  
main repositories.

Follow this,

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

unblock the first two sources. [just delete the '#' from the beginning  
of the line]
I am extremely sorry, I do not have ubuntu here right now, can't tell  
you the exact lines.

Well, then

sudo apt-get update

now your repository knows where's the ubuntu-desktop and other stuffs  
are ... so install them!

use exactly these 4 things

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install gdm
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

On reboot, you'll get a working ubuntu with gnome desktop.

Now, my suggestion is, download or manage a Ubuntu CD. The amount of  
the packages you have to download, is almost around 250-300MB :|

Hope it helps. I did it before, it takes a long time to install. In  
fact longer time than the standard installation, so keep patience.
