1. Document Management - Repeat an action : Not Supported.

2. Document Management - Document Preview : Not Supported.

3. Document Management - Print Style - Tiling : Not Supported.

4. All [File]-[Print]-'Print Range'- Choose 'All'-OK
Current Page Not Supported
Until Current Page Not Supported
After Current Page Not Supported
Setting Range [File]-[Print]-'Print Range'-Choose 'Pages'-Select the range-OK
The specific example of selecting range need to be displayed.

5. [Hyperlink] in [Edit] menu looks unnecessary.
Writing 'Text' part in the [Hyperlink] is inconvenient for the users. Normally,
the hyperlink is applied to already existing text. (If 'Text' is left blank,
the site address becomes default)
Even when the text block is not set, [Hyperlink] is activated. Eventually, any
objects(texts, pictures, etc.) in the document can have hyperlinks
After clicking 'Apply' button in the hyperlink dialog, the dialog does not
close. So the user cannot know whether the link has been set or not. The dialog
should automatically be closed after use.
When the hyperlink is inserted, (the text block is not set), [Edit-Hyperlink]
is not activated.
Unable to remove hyperlink.

6. Document Management - Making Zipped File : Basically not supported.

This is for OOo 1.9.79:

Download the attached spreadsheet and try out a pull-down one one of the sheets.
When an item in a pulldown is selected, a grey horizontal box is drawn across
the screen about the height of once cell and vertically placed far below the
selection box or selected item (maybe 30 rows?). The problem does not appear at
some below 1280x1024, or when the spreadsheet window is relatively small
(800x600?). Please let me know if you have additional questions:

I got an error [reproducible] when I saved a document at the same time Writer

I think there isn't a verify to check if user is saving when auto-save start.

When opening an exported form in PDF, Reader warns that form saving is not
possible. Reader help says that form creator should include additional usage
rights. Looking at PDF Document Properties (under Security) says that form
submittal is not allowed.

Is there any way to alter the PDF document to allow saving PDF form with data?
It will be _very_ helpfull in many workflow applications. yes, I know that
XForms can do the job even better, but many prefer PDF for portability.

ok, closing for now

Still curious as to why it would work in Calc, Draw Impress and not in
Writer
Web on the same platform and same build of OO!

don't know, but as it works with a recent freely available linux distro, i think
it is not much worth investigating..

Thanks for supporting us!

As of 2.0 it is no longer possible to open new documents at all from quick
starter.

Therefore, this bug is probably a WONTFIX.

Otherwise it is dependending on the overall strategy for quick starter -
probably best discussed in issue 6632.

Hi,
Create a WORD doc with alphabetical index with index file.
Open doc with OO 2b and save as OO document.Close.
Open OO 2b newly saved doc.
Index entries appear a narrow grey fields that cannot be edited, viewed, etc.
They can only be deleted. Old index file (that took about 6 years to build is
rendered unusable. How can I use the old index data in OO?

Regards,
Florin.

If I load a .sxw or .odt document in Openoffice 2.0 BETA, the filename of the
document or (if present) the title of the file properties is shown in the title
bar of the window.
But if I load a html-file, the title bar just reads Openoffice.org Writer/Web.
The same can be found in the Windows menu.
This makes it hard to find one of several documents opened at the same time.

If I enter the File/Properties dialog and edit the title there, the title bar is
updated to reflect the new name. If I delete the title there completely, the
filename is shown instead. (Both in additon to Openoffice.org Writer/Web)
However if I save this file and reopen it, the title again just reads
Openoffice.org Writer/Web.

maxweber, What I meant is that I can select all the objects, and when I right
click on them and select group the resulting shape will be distorted. I am
able to select all the shapes (including the ones at the left). The problem
arises when I click on the group option of the context menu. I hope this
helps.

With OOo 1.9.m87 on an intel linux machine (Ubuntu Linux 4.10) the math-code
left [ matrix{1 # 1# 1 ## 1 # 1 # 1 ## 1 # 1 # 1} right ] gives a good
looking
matrix in the writer document. But in Windows XP with the same OOo 1.9.m87
version the code gives an math-object with very large borders, espacially in
the

By default, OOo uses the UI font of the system(mostly under GNOME) since
1.1.3.
But it seems that OOo UI is displaying nothing in zh_CN under GNOME.

That is because the default font of GNOME is Sans, which will be mapped into
actual font name by fontconfig. Unfortunately, OOo seems to not providing lang
properties when requiring font from fontconfig. That means, the 1st font
listed
in Sans alternative will be used no matter whether it covers Chinese or not.

When a table is created in a OO-Writer document and formated with vertical
alignment: top and the document is saved new loaded, the vertical
alignment-seting is lost (don't know if the setting exactly named vertical
alignment, I use the german language version of OOo, there you can find the
option under Format/Tabellenformat/Textfluss/Vertikale Ausrichtung/oben).
I tested OOo 1.1.4 on WindowsXP SP2 and Windows 98 SE and the bug exists on both
plattforms.

If you open the votes page of any issue, the backward link to the issue page is
shown as HTML code.

Reason:
The angel brackets are replaced by their entities in the generated HTML code:

Show votes: Issue lt;a href=show_bug.cgi?id=45842gt;45842lt;/agt;

BTW: This might be the same problem as described in issue 45842.

At the moment, regular expressions in OOo are always greedy. It would be nice
to
be able to make them a bit less greedy... :-) (In other regexs, this is often
implemented by a Question Mark.)

In combination with issue 15666, the Search-And-Replace with regular
expressions
would be much more powerful.

For more information about the greediness of regexs, look at section 5.2 (para
And Quantifier Again) of:
http://www.regenechsen.de/regex_en/regex_3_en.html

Quote
Ok, now let's move on to some special behaviour relating to quantifiers, Some
of
them have a 'human' peculiarity: they are greedy! You don't believe that? Well,
look at the following string g:

The abbreviation 'ISP' stands for 'Internet Service Provider'.

We want a regex that finds the text that is enclosed by inverted commas and
stores it in a subpattern:

(.*)'(.*)'.*

Nothing difficult really: find everything that comes before an inverted comma,
then everything in between and finally everything that follows

And? Did you try it on the regex-tester? What is in subpattern 2? Internet
Service Provider. Ooops, I expected ISP because it comes first in the
string.
:-o It is quite obvious that the first group (.*) greedily matched most of the
string and left only what was at least necessary for subpattern 2 to match the
whole string. Furthermore, the last element .* in the regex allowed 'nothing'
or void to follow. Keeping this in mind: this part leads to a successful match
even if nothing is to be matched. The star stands for as many appearances as
there are or none at all!

[...]

Conclusion: Alter the Regex to (.*?)'(.*?)'.*.

Discovered that a manifest.xml file included in a component won't be parsed by
unopkg if it has a leading line of whitespace before the XML declaration. Unopkg
will install the bundle but will not deploy anything listed in the manifest.xml
file.

The work around is to remove the whitespace but it will catch people off guard
who think there component must have done somethng wrong.

I downloaded OO 2.0 beta and found that inspite of all enhancements it cannot
handle my files. My language is Russian and I have many documents with Russian
names. It turned out that I cannot use File|Open menu command to open my files
or run OO.org by double-clicking a document. Every attempt to load a file
results in a message like this:

 /home/slava/%C4%EE%EA%F3%EC%E5%ED%F2%FB/%C2%F0%E5%EC%FF.sxw does not exist.

I use GNOME desktop and ru_RU.CP1251 locale. Opening files via the File menu
works if I set the Use OpenOffice.org dialogs checkmark in the Options|General
dialog, but it does not fix running OO.org by clicking a document in the file
manager.

* The Russian alphabet is represented in non-Unicode locales by codes in the
range of 128-256. The error message looks like a result of misconvertion or lack
of conversion of filenames between user locale and internal UTF-8 string
representation.

Steps to reproduce:
- Run OO.org in any 8-bit Russian, Greek, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Byelorussian
etc. locale.
- try to open a file with a cyrillic name.
- OO.org 2.0 beta happily reports that the file does not exist.

While typing in the spreadsheet program, if a user miss-keys information in
the cell and uses the backspace button to correct the keying error, the
program will often erase all data in that cell rather than just the typing
error.

*
Example: typing in row 35 column F

Third meeting is with CFO. Meant to say CIO so I backspaced.

Third meeting is with C (backspace)(backspace)(backspace)(backspace)
**

After the fourth backspace, all data from that cell was erased. This is not a
huge issue in such a small cell. When it has happened in larger cells, it has
been more of a problem. This error does not seem to follow some number of
backspaces either. It happens when I have one backspace and when I have
several and fairly consistently but also not every time.

OO.o 2.0 beta on Linux (official build) doesn't still (as in 1.x versions) use
fontconfig settings. For example, I have freetype compiled with bytecode
interpreter support, and I have several turned autohinter on for several fonts
in my /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, also, turned antialiasing completely off for a few
fonts. In GNOME, fonts are as I specified, but OO.o always use default settings
- like it just uses freetype directly, not through fontconfig. As I understand,
there is a fontconfig support in 2.0, so changing fontconfig settings should
change rendering in OO.o.

On the other hand, you should keep the menus as plain as possible,
without much lines and effects so the eye can catch everything faster.
The main items already have neat icons beneath them - which works
very fine for me to be an eye catcher.

1.9.87

I went into writer, and it is showing toolbars I don't want, or need.
These would include the form design toolbars.
Okay. So drag them off the docked sides and click x for both. Okay. Well at
least their off my screen now

Now exit OOo 1.9.87

Let's reopen writer, and we find that... the toolbars are back, and they are
now floating instead of being docked.

Are the toolbars supposed to come back? Or is this a bug? It looks like a bug
to me

Suspect duplicates are 17733, 25915 and maybe other ones.

I fully agree with a comment in 17733 by pschatz100: also in my organization the
Word file properties are used the same way and I suspect that there are many
other organizations that uses file properties this way. It's a comfortable way
to put metadata on documents: metadata are the only way, together a complex
folder structure, to organize a large number of documents and link them to
contextes, people, and tasks.

This issue must be solved because it could help position OO as a professional
suite like Microsoft Office is considered. This is not optional, I think.

I propose to break this issue in two parts: the first one, to be done in OO 2.0,
which let properties were they are without touching them but also without the
possibility to edit them (remember that actually it's a data loss issue type,
it's a bug from mt point of view); in the second part, optional, add a feature
to edit them.

Scrolling in Print Layout view should stop and align to each
page it passes. This gives a much neater feel to scrolling than
just scrolling a preset fraction of a window's worth of text
each time and almost never aligning to a page.

MSWord97 does this, and it's definitely a nice feature. I tested
MSWord with a few page and window heights and it does this con-
sistently, so it certainly shouldn't go against any official or
unofficial standards.

hhm, just a few observations:

+
* fontconfig-support is already integrated into 2.o (see i20361)
* m87 checks (open, access) for /etc/fonts/fonts.conf and inside referenced
local.conf and other user confs.

* i45983, user reporting that characters display correctly in Gedit, but not in
OOo, looks like duplicate of this issue

silverex, can you give me a hint how to check if fontconfig is indeed _used_ at
my system with OOo 2.0 (like willingly messing up my fonts, which i could
observe on OOo 2.0. I am not familiar with the XML definition in fonts.conf,

The following effects I tried are still to slow or otherwise suboptimal.

Significant Performance problems still exists with all of these for

Please don't take this as an offence in any way. I love OOo. Thanyk you for

After further testing, I see MSWord97 only does this if the scrolling starts
out aligned to a page. Scrolling up has less tendency to align to pages.
It would be nice if Writer always tried to snap to to page boundaries even
when scrolling starts out unaligned. This would be an improvement on the
scrolling behaviour in Writer (and MSWord97).

I have tried the animation effects in Impress (m87).
For my testing I had 5 simple object (Text, boxes, smily and a barrel) and
assigned them the different animation objects. After a couple of cycles I got
increasing numbers of display error. It started with a residual white spot in
the upper left which increased to a small block of about 5x5 pixels. Then in
the next presentation start the background (which should have been white)
remained black and animations were completly corrupted. Closing and reloading
the animation did not help, nor did closing of the application help. I had to
kill the Quickstarter and reload Impress and the demofile to have it properly
working again for some cycles.

Yes.
in /etc/fonts/local.conf, put this element (as a child to fontconfig tag):

match target=font
test name=familystringVerdana/string/test
edit name=antialias mode=assignboolfalse/bool/edit
/match

this should uncover most obvious difference - antialiasing turned completely off
for that font. Try comparing various font sizes then in GNOME font selector and
OO.o.

One notice: this might be related to issue #16032: Fontconfig supports OpenType
fonts with PostScript outlines (*.otf), but OO.o does not show them in font
selector (GNOME font selector shows them).

Impress doesn't remember Slides pane state between sessions.
There are three editing modes in which it appears, and it doesn't
restore the pane's state based on any of them.

The table border icons in toolbar seems to work in additive way, which is not
intutive at all. For instance, when I click 'north and south' border icon, I
expect west and east borders to be removed. But it does not work in that way.
Clicking icon _only adds_ the border(s) shown in the icon. However, 'no border'
icon works as expected - it removes all borders.

So, the easiest way to work with icons is to remove all borders first before
adding necessary ones. I wonder if this behavior is intented. If not, then I
hope this gets fixed soon.

Steps to reproduce

1. open new writer document.
2. add table.
3. locate caret inside cell.
4. click 'north and south' border icon in table toolbar.
5. confirm that there is no change.
6. click 'no border' icon.
7. click 'north and south' border icon again.
8. confirm that the cell only has north and south borders.

Within the program options, the layout of the default file format settins is
confusing.

If I understand correctly, this is meant to allow a choice of file format for
each type of document. However, the use of two side-by-side drop-down boxes is
not clear: at first glance it appears the purpose of this is to create a single
link between two different lists, instead of selecting an item in the second
(dynamic) list for each item in the first.

Too much is being crammed into too few controls. I suggest devoting an entire
pane to this family of setting. This would be called 'File formats' and be
listed after 'General' in the 'Load/Save' group. See attachments for suggested
interface design.

Launch any Office application other than Base.
Do File - New - Database.
The new database wizard launches.
Click the Help button.
The helpfile opens for the Office application you issued the command in -- but
the help for Base should open.

In OOO Writer/Web 1.9.79, I inserted the following simple (and
useless) JavaScript function in a web page, using the Insert
Script dialog, with the Text option selected:

function jhsdfjk() {
var n = 0;
n++
}

...I then saved it and went to HTML view. Instead of The script,
there was a URL to the webpage itself:

SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript
file:///E:/Programs/OpenOffice2.0/Page.html
/SCRIPT

It seems that text format JavaScript isn't supported in the Insert
Script dialog. It always puts a URL. Once, it at least put a URL
to what might have been a temporary file containing a script. I've
tried several different means to do it, but I can't get it to retain
a script in an HTML page.

1. Create a new document and open the Format - Page... menu.
2. Select the Columns tab and set the number of columns to 3.
3. Turn off AutoWidth and use the down arrow button of the column 1 width to
set the width of column 1 to 0. This should raise the width of column 2 to
4.62.
4. Use the down arrow button of the column 2 width to set it to 0. This should
raise the width of column 3 to 6.93. The width of column 1 should still be at
0.
5. Click on the up arrow button of the column 1 width once. This should raise
the width of column 2 to 0.02 and change the column preview display in the
upper right of the menu.
6. Click OK. You should now be able to see the margin outline continue off
of the right side of the page.
7. Open the Format - Page... menu again.

The width of column 1 is now set to 22.05 which is more than the page width
(8.5 in this case and the standard case). The width of column 3 is also still
set to 6.93.

Checkbox and option control labels are rendered as text when HTNL
code is saved. Here's how I duplicated it:

1) Start a new webpage
2) Draw three checkboxes. For the screenshots, I put them on
separate lines.
3) Save the file
4) Go to HTML view
5) Make any harmless change to enable saving, like typing a space
then deleting it
6) Save the file
7) Go back to normal view
8) The checkbox labels will become plain text appearing past the
ends of the checkboxes they were assigned to.

In the (soon to be attached) ZIP file:
ChkBefore.GIF is the original layout
ChkAfter.GIF is the layout after saving the HTML code

The Windows Installer service allows for automated software deployment with
Active Directory Group Policy. In short: Software (MSI Packages) can be assigned
(installed on reboot of a computer) of published (a non-administrative user can
add the software him/herself via Add or Remove Programs from the Control Panel).
More details on this can be found a.o. in the Office Deployment Guide from the
Microsoft Office Resource Kit
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/assistance/HA011402011033.aspx).

If software is published to a user, and the user chooses to install the software
(from Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - Add New Programs - Add
Programs from your Network) the the user does not need administrative privileges
to install the software. The Windows Installer service will in this case install
the software with 'elevated privileges' (as if the user were an administrator).

However the OOo 2.0 beta installer checks if the user has administrator
permissions, and if not it will generate an error message:

OpenOffice.org 1.9.79 Installerinformationen
The Installation Wizard cannot be run properly because you are logged in as a
user without sufficient administrator rights for this system.

So the installation, which should run without problems, fails. This seriously
hinders OOo deployment in our environment (and possibly a lot of others).

The check for administrator permissions is either not adequate or it shouldn't
be there in the first place.

To reproduce the error you need to have a working Active Directory environment:

1) In Active Directory Users and Computers, create a Organizational Unit (for
testing)
2) In this OU, create a test user
3) Unzip OOo and run msiexec /a openofficeorg1979.msi. Put the installation
(Administrative Installation Point) on a share where the test user has read
permissions.
4) Right-click the OU created in step 1 and open the properties. Activate the
Group Policy tab.
5) Create a new group policy object and double click to modify the new policy
object
6) Navigate to User Configuration - Software Settings - Software Installation,
right click and Choose New Package...
7) Browse to the share from step 3 and double click the OOo MSI.
8) Choose Published and check that OOo apears in the list.
9) Close the Group Policy Editor
10) Log on to a workstation in the domain as the user created in step 2.
11) Open the Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - Add New Programs.
12) Select OOo from the list of available software from the network and click
'Add'

If the user is not an administrator, the error will appear.

Please let me know if I can help any further.

Thanks!

Jeroen Meijer

Using a non-built-in font (Roadgeek 2005 Transport Heavy at
http://www.triskele.com/fonts-beta.html). OOo 1.4 displays it correctly; 2-beta
doesn't. I'll attach an image with both correct and incorrect if I can figure
out how to do it.
