Folks, I just would like to share with you an image comparing Endnote fields in
a RTF file. In OOo 2.2 in Windows XP, the fields of the bibliography appear
centre-aligned like the heading, contrary to what shows up in Word 2003.

I unpacked it before installing (i'm studying how to create an ebuild file to
use portage to install it) and tryed.
With IBM 1.5 it doesn't work but with 1.4 it works. (And with the installed
version I'm not able to recognize the 1.4...)

So... thanks but I hope some dev will fix this problem

Frequently , and regularly , the program will just go to sleep - will lock up .
After quite a few seconds it will then wake up and respond to the mouse .

FYI, build with J2SDK1.4.2 is not an option, but allows to keep a maximum of
compatibility with both
1.4x and 1.5.x.

IMHO Java 1.5 is not seen because maxVersion value is 1.4.2 in the code.

I'll build you an m211 with that change, and you'll tell me if it works. If so
the change will be integrated(
( caolan confirmed there is no problem)

Dear Crolidge,

importing from rtf works partly. The fields are not deleted in this case.
However, some formatting is lost
(e.g. Superscript). Problem is: most collaborating authors just assume that I
use MS Word and don't care to
save in rtf. As a consequence, the failure of Oo to import .doc files slows
down the workflow severely.
Thank you for your help !

Best Regards,
Hubert

If a cell has text in which the first letter is lower case , the AutoCorrect
will capitilise the first letter automatically - on the Enter key being pressed
or the cursor being moved out of the cell by use of the mouse . If the
assistant's instructions in the help pages are followed - Tools - Cell Contents
- AutoInput - they have no effect .

The dialogue box in extras/autoformat/options offers the option of
URL-recognition not only while editing but also when using format/autoformat.
But it doesn't work.
If you open a txt-file or copy text into a writer document that contains URL's,
the autoformat-procedure does not recognize them.
best regards, Claudia

Just select and item in dropdown list box, this should cause a macro to get run,
without this patch a scripting error occurs ( to paraphrase the error: can't

I have done some more testing using
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/44736/Praha4.zip
(make sure you set text delimiter empty, otherwise file would not import
correctly) and version m210:
1. Using different version of JRE (1.5.11 vs 1.6.0) did not make a second of
difference on WinXP.
2. Pasting that data on different OSes:
Suse 10.2 - 3 minutes
WinXP - 5m 50s
Vista - 35 minutes (yes, 35 minutes is correct).

Time spent in kernel (as seen in Task Manager) on Windows is around 65% on XP
or around 90% on Vista.

comparing objects with default paramaters gives unexpected results,

e.g. if cell a1 = test
   cell b1 = test

more that likely the result of

MsgBox ( Range(a1) = Range(a2) )

will be false

however

MsgBox ( Range(a1).Value = Range(a2).Value )

will yield the correct result ( basically due to lazy loading on the underlying
property not getting triggered under certain circumstances )

[www-issues] Re: [Issue 76811] OO fails to correctly import .doc files containing Endnote fields

2007-05-01 Thread Hubert Serve

Dear Crolidge,

importing from rtf works partly. The fields are not deleted in this
case. However, some formatting is lost (e.g. Superscript). Problem
is: most collaborating authors just assume that I use MS Word and
don't care to save in rtf. As a consequence, the failure of Oo to
import .doc files slows down the workflow severely. Thank you for
your help !

Best Regards,
Hubert

Hi Hserve.

I also use Endnote with Word 2003, but I always save in RTF files.

Have you tried importing RTF files ? I will try it later and tell you
anyway.

Hi jamesh0317,

I'm an Ubuntu user, too and I've never been happy using Ubuntus OOo...

Do you get any error message (e.g in /var/log/messages) regarding this issue?

Maybe you could try using that OOo2.2 you may load from
ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/linux/openoffice.org-cs/2.2 or directly from
www.openoffice.org... It's available in *.deb file format, too :)

You have to remove Ubuntus OOo first...

I attempted to open a file on an nfs share. After the app
seemed to be non-responsive, I found the state was ininterruptable:

12178 ?D 0:34 /etc/openoffice.org2.2/program/soffice.bin -writer

Inspected the file, and someone had saved as world write-only:
-rw-rw--w-

After an hour, the app was still waiting, so I was forced to re-boot.

Both JDK 1.5 and 1.4 are seen by your OO.

The version that I installed with my distro package manager (portage on gentoo)
doesn't see only the 1.4... but I think this is not an OO problem

So... it's ok with your OO build

I only hope this bug will be fixed in the future

Hi videoj,

hmm, ... fine... or not...

well, what exactly did you do? how did you install, how did you try to start
OOo? do you have an older OOo-configuration in your documents and Setting

One problem with attaching a problematic document to this bug report, which I
(stupidly) only just realised: I always save in Microsoft .doc format. I will
try Save As... in OpenOffice.org format next time I get a problem; is that as
likely to give a result?

OK, finally a demo document for this bug. Open it, select all, then run Tools-
Word count, then compare with what happens if you add, then delete a
character and then once again select all and run Tools-Word count. I get the
selection count being 1113 and the total count 1117 in the first case, and both
1113 in the second.

Another competitive analysis

Using the data in the Praha 4.csv file Kpalagin posted to populate a Calc sheet
in OOo and then doing a copy past of the 13,000 rows into Kexi 2007 for Windows
9 SECONDS. That is with adding a primary key field - HOWEVER, the date fields
are converted to text. Importing into Kexi directly from the CSV file took
longer - 11 seconds.

Hello, MCI.
As I mentioned in the original post, there are no error messages about the crash
anywhere that I can find. I would love to use non-Ubuntu OOo; however, I can't
uninstall it (apt-get remove, etc)without uninstalling many necessary packages
along with it. This is one issue that I have with Ubuntu. There are several
packages that are not *critical* but Ubuntu will not let you remove them without
also removing many other *critical* packages on which they /do not/ depend.
Unless you have a method for doing so... I am all ears.

(I know that two problems per issue is not good, but repro steps are identical)
1. Open attached file, select range A1:Q1000, Ctrl-C to copy.
2. File - New - Database - Finish - Save.
3. Click Tables - Edit - Paste.
4. Click Create PK - Create.
5. Close Base with closer (x), Saving (or not saving - does not matter) the
document.
6. Navigate to the .odb and try deleting it - Windows complains (problem #1).
7. Close Calc, right-click Quickstarter icon, Exit Quickstarter.
8. Bring up Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc), Processes tab - soffice.bin,
soffice.exe are in the list (should not be there - Problem#2).

Issues 74818 and 21747 seem to be related.

The lack of character styles or the ability to easily copy and paste character
formating is a significantly impacting weakness, especially when it comes to
polishing the elements of a bulleted list, by highlighting key words.

We have two problems with automatic name generation in Database wizard:
1. Wizard suggests evenly ending names as in New DatabaseX. Repro steps:
1.1. Start Base and clik Finish. Click Save, accepting New Database name.
Close Base.
1.2. Start Base and clik Finish. Click Save, accepting New Database2 name.
Close Base.
1.3. Start Base and clik Finish. Note that wizard suggested name New
Database4.

2. Vista-specific - database name is not autogenerated if default save location
does not contain .odb file. Repro steps:
2.1. Make sure that default save location does not contain any .odb files.
2.2. Start Base, click Finish. Note that File name in dialog is empty.
This is not so on WinXP.

I installed OOO 2.2 and I still have the same issue. I would like to give you
all that you need, if you could tell me how.

To reproduce this problem we need also the structure of the database and the
port of your odbc.ini.

Only the *.odb does not help.

How do I get the stucture of my Database to you?

My 'Insert' toolbar loads automatically. All insert commands work fine except
the Math function. When I insert a function, the toolbar disappears. I
reactivate it it happens again. While in formula editor, when I go to Format
font, the values are all blank. The Math function works fine if I customise the
main toolbars also if I create my own toolbar, which I have done - but I feel
you should be aware of the problem for any further releases.

Merging cells with formula convert the formula to plain text (without
variables).

Example:

setup:
Cell- Content
A1- empty
B1- =A2+B2
C1- empty
A2- 2
B2- 3

Instructions: Merge cell A1 + B1 + C1, and look at the resulting content of that
cell (it is 5 but the formula disappeared).

This doesn't work when the text has an other still than Default.
This is works as designed. Assuming the user wants to apply the AutoFormat to
not yet formatted text i.e. the Default style.

Confirmed this behaviour in OOo 2.2 in Windows XP.

Hi Kim,
I never saw this as a problem, but I think you are right.
If the wheel doesn't block that might help to find out easier any cell to
replace any contents of the formula.

Carlos

Hi Kim

I don't understand very well what you say, because this seems the intended
behaviour.
The edit line still displays the formula as you move to another sheet to choose
more or other cell/contents, after pressing Enter you return to the original
sheet/cell that contains the formula.

I made a few tests and don't see any special error. Maybe if you could clarify
or send a test document with steps to reproduce.

I had given up on the old version, but would still like to get this to work.
When I tried OOo 2.2, Java 1.5.0_07 it keeps dumping core with a Bus Error when
I execute a query. (I can create the connection, and the list of tables are
displayed).

I will try and work through the crash over the next couple of days and see if I
can reproduce the original issue in 2.2.

Importing this PowerPoint file takes forever, but it works. Saving it in ODP
format crashes Impress instantly almost before it starts saving. Exporting to
PDF doesn't trigger this bug, though.

There needs to be a capability in Impress to increase and decrease size of text
of by selecting it and pressing an increase or decrease button.

This function should also have the capability to resize all the selected text
relative to each other.

Powerpoint has this feature and its used alot in formating briefs. Right now,
creating briefs in Impress is painful.

If I resize a text box in Impress it should automatically resize the text so
that it fits.

PowerPoint has this feature and it is heavily used. Not having this feature in
Impress negatively impacts getting people who do lots of presentation.

Data:

id acct_mo_yr acct_dayvalue_a value_b

0 04/01/2007 00:00:00 1 2.000 3.000
1 03/01/2007 00:00:01 4 5.000 6.000
2 02/01/2007 00:00:02 7 8.000 9.000

Query 1:

In the query design grid I placed: 4/1/2007 00:00:00

SQL statement generated:

SELECT id, acct_mo_yr, acct_day, value_a, value_b FROM Table1 WHERE
( ( acct_mo_yr = {D '2007-04-01' } ) )

With the embedded HSQL database, the query grid translation to a date only
format produces the record number 0 without any problem.

Query 2:

In the query design grid I placed: 3/1/2007 00:00:01

SQL statement generated:

SELECT id, acct_mo_yr, acct_day, value_a, value_b FROM Table1 WHERE
( ( acct_mo_yr = {TS '2007-03-01 00:00:01.0' } ) )

Add a second to the time field and the query design grid translation results in
the correct TS type in the SQL statement.

This is what I expected with Query 1. Additionally, if the time portion wasn't
specified in the criteria, I would expect it to default to 00:00:00 in the
resulting SQL statement as a time stamp field to match the underlying DB field
definition.

Using either Informix 3.30 or Intersolv 3.11 ODBC drivers, this translation to a
date only type SQL statement when the time portion is 00:00:00 causes/returns a
data type mismatch error as the field being referenced is defined as being a
time stamp type in the DB which the driver is respecting. It's expecting a time
stamp value and complains when it's presented with something else. Close isn't
good enough.

(In my case, the DB has this field defined as a time stamp data type, even
though the actual data is always day 1 of any given month/year with the time
portion always being 00:00:00. I can't change this, I just have to work with
it.)

I'll attach my sample data base to demonstrate the issue.

[sc-issues] [Issue 76814] Leaving a Field with a For mula Double Clicked then Double Clicking on a Cell on Another Work Sheet - Original Formula Remains

It definitely exists . If you go to the original worksheet you will see the
formula still selected and displayed . If you press escape the problem , on the
second worksheet , disappears . IE. for the problem to exist the formula must be
selected on the first worksheet by double clicking and then the second worksheet
selected and the cell selected .

sheet May - Original formula - =(P72-Q72)
sheet Jun - Original formula - =(P90-Q90)
sheet May - cell selected by double click - component cells outlined with
coloured rectangles . sheet Jun - cell selected by double click - formula shows
=(Jun.R90P72-Q72)

I should have added with these reports - I am working on a .xls file imported
from Excel .

[sc-issues] [Issue 76815] Goes to Sleep

I have been having this problem occurring a lot . I am doing a lot of
modification of a spreadsheet - selecting cells , editing cells etc. . The
spreadsheet has 16 worksheets - ie. covers a year's worth of expenditure and
income - so is fairly complex .

It seems like a frequent back up process operating but is obviously not - there
is no indication of this occurring . This leaves a task issue as a possible
cause - ie. a task going to sleep - being locked up temporarily by another
process - such as temporary priority inversion . If a synchronous architecture
is used then task problems are not unusual - by the nature of the structure they
are designed into the structure and they have to be worked around . The program
may be being woken up by some sort of watchdog process .

I should have added with these reports - I am working on a .xls file imported
from Excel .
