Windows Vista x64
Norton 360 Version 2.0
Latest Open Office Suite, Complete Install, All Office Compatibility

Don't get too excited just yet, but please do read in full.

I am very concerned that this is a strange and complicated problem that
unfortunately may fatally disable Norton 360 Version 2.0 and damage Windows
Search registry keys on thousands of PCs. I am not sure, but this needs
further investigation. Let me make clear that if this is the case that this is
a problem with Windows, Open Office, and Norton, not one or the other, and may
actually not involve Open Office at all, though I need you to confirm that,
quickly. I can't confirm that my source information is accurate either and my
interpretation of it all may be flawed. I need some sort of expertise to
assist in determining any and all of that because I just am not skilled enough
to know, but it is potentially serious.

Recently I installed the new Open Office 2.4. To my surprise, the day I did I
noticed someting odd. My Symantec Norton 360 Version 2.0 suddenly stopped
working and started to return errors. The errors are generic, but basically
they stop a critical service from running. A reboot restarts the services, but
they soon fail again, for reasons explained below. As I started to
investigate, I discovered, after reading a few dozen forums online, that the
problem may have something to do with a defect in Norton with dll files and
that a patch has since resolved the issue. Having updated Norton 360 version 2
to the fullest, I started to wonder what else might be wrong.

I kept searching and discovered that in my event viewer Windows tells me:
-- WinMail (3148) WindowsMail0: The database engine stopped the instance
(0).
-- Faulting application ccSvcHst.exe [A Symantec Service]
-- The protocol handler Search.Mapi2Handler.1 cannot be loaded. Error
description: Class not registered.

Researching further I discovered that MS is aware of an issue in Windows Vista
x64 that causes the last error to appear, but that it should be ignored by
Windows as information. I found some people online, however, who seem to
have linked that to a problem in Windows Mail. I noticed that it happened
often when I did check my e-mail. I found one site claiming to have resolved
that by altering the registry. I tried to do the same. To my surprise, this
had something to do with Windows Search needing those keys in order to search
for e-mail in Windows Vista. When I re-opened Windows Mail, it gave me some
sort of message about reloading files, after I added the changes to the
registry, and I could see it was making changes per my registry modifications.
Shortly after though, I had the Symantec Norton problem again.

Researching further, some programmers I read online suggested that the problem
was relarted to Windows Search looking for 64-bit files for searching in a
system folder, WOW64, and that these did not exist because the program was
inherantly 32-bit. They said, I believe, that some APIs look for 64-bit
extensions or something to that effect and that these simply do not exist, so
Windows returns errors as if registry keys are missing when they are not. I
looked deeper into that, and lo and behold I found 1 blog where a user
described linking that to the functions of Norton 360. It all started to make
sense.

Although, I wondered what in the world started all of this in the first place.
I was concerned it was Norton, naturally. So, I contacted Symantec, which as
usual played dumb and could not assist me. They insisted that the problem was
a Windows issue, which it partially is, but that they had no more information
in their knowledge base. I have never had success with them, period.

I kept looking after that. What I found next may shed some real light. I
started looking more closely at other things coming up on my searches on Google
and noticed that other people kept mentioning that this problem only occurrs
when you have Microsoft Outlook installed. That hit me like a ton of bricks
that the only thing evenly remotely close to that ever put on this PC was Open
Office, which just so happens to recognize Office file types. I

Symantec said that this may be caused in Norton by a problem with LiveUpdate
failing. Live Update does not fail, but the errors do sometimes occur right
after it runs an auto-update, but then later auto-update does not run when it
occurs, but somehow it may be partially involved. Live Update is also
constantly auto-updating even though it is set to do so only once every 24
hours.

I disabled the Windows Search service all-together to see what would happen.

[sc-issues] [Issue 87937] Paste Special obviated by ubiquitous structured Text Import feature

Upon further research, it appears that this issue relates back to countless
issues related to the behavior of the Text Import dialog. At some point I
believe this behavior should be rethought.

Hooking into every paste *except* when its only a single line while not giving
the option for the user to bypass it for common repetitive actions (such as
tab-delimited data from a plain text source) seems very kludgy or perhaps
feature lacking.

Ideally the Text import dialog would only appear for Paste Special operations
and default to the user's preference for simple Paste operations.

Not sure if this is a usability bug, enhancement request or even a duplicate.

As Microsoft IDL souce usually includes files from PSDK, midl.exe comes with
PSDK should be perefered to that comes with compiler tools.

Actually midl.exe in VS .NET 2003 cannot compile IDL with Vista SDK. However,
compiler tools' pathes are usually put before PSDK path. As midl.exe is only
used at extensions/source/activex/msidl, I think it better to hack the
makefile instead of fixing config_office.

A patch follows.

In python/makefile.mk, variables for Vista SDK are not set for VS .NET 2003.

Although build with Vista SDK and VS .NET 2003 has missing sal.h problem, I
think it better to set the variables for .NET 2003.

I tested the new version 1.0.2 of Sun Report Builder;
Inserting a date (TODAY or NOW) in header of report 06/04/2008 is displayed
which is correct for the 6th of April. I have been waiting this fix for a long
time!
Unfortunatly after exporting this report to PDF, the date field becomes in the
PDF file as well as in the report: 20/06/1905.
However this tool is very useful.

In DEV300_m5, I have found out precompiled header inclusions are missing in
several new files in different modules.

I wonder why the coincident happens.

Maybe I should raise issues by modules, I will include all the pathces in one
file.

It would be better to open a new issue, narrowed down to your problem.
Don't forget to attach test documents in order to be able to reproduce the
behavior.

Assign it to component gsl, subcomponent code.

Remember that currently this feature works for 'file://' protocol only (e.g. no
'smb://' or others).

I would like to add to this, and ask for it to be fixed. As this is a tool used
in collaborating with Word users, it seems important that it works in the
standard way that Word users are used to.

Thanks,

Graham

I deployed a lot of complex requests in one of the 2.X version with no problem.
But wanting to update them in spl mode I got issue:
la requête ne créée pas de résultat et ne peut donc pas faire partie d'une
autre requête
If I double-click on the request in request browser, I get the right result,
all the lines are listed but if I create a report, ( Sun Report Builder) it is
empty, no result are returned.
I simplifyed a request and found a pattern generating the issue:

SELECT T_parrainage.*,
Tp_etatParrainage.libelle AS etatParrainageLib,
T_eleve.ID AS IDEleve

 FROM T_parrainage T_parrainage
  JOIN T_eleve T_eleve
  ON T_parrainage.filleul = T_eleve.ID

 LEFT OUTER JOIN Tp_etatParrainage Tp_etatParrainage
 ON T_parrainage.etat = Tp_etatParrainage.code
WHERE ((T_parrainage.dateFin = NOW()) AND (T_parrainage.etat=0) )

If I create such a request in SQL mode I get exception:
Statut SQL: HY000
Code d'erreur: 1000

syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting BETWEEN or IN or SQL_TOKEN_LIKE

If I add INNER before the first JOIN it works

SELECT T_parrainage.*,
Tp_etatParrainage.libelle AS etatParrainageLib,
T_eleve.ID AS IDEleve

 FROM T_parrainage T_parrainage
 INNER JOIN T_eleve T_eleve
  ON T_parrainage.filleul = T_eleve.ID

 LEFT OUTER JOIN Tp_etatParrainage Tp_etatParrainage
 ON T_parrainage.etat = Tp_etatParrainage.code
WHERE ((T_parrainage.dateFin = NOW()) AND (T_parrainage.etat=0) )

INNER is the default value and should not be mandatory, I was able to create
such request with one of the previous 2.X version.
If I update old requests source, I get other issues as code doesn't exist
I had to delet some old requests and recreate them.
I can provided a testcase for INNER, for other exceptions when updating SQL
source I can't as the database contains personal data.

Hi,

We are migrating to OOo and during the transition period, we use .doc
(97/2000/XP version) because some users are using Ms Word 2000.

The life cycle of our documents needs to have lot's of revisions (using the
revision module), some are done with openoffice, others with ms Word that's why
we cannot, for the moment, use OpenDocument format.
Sometimes, documents lost image position in Ms Word, and it make the document
unreadable (for human eyes...) because, all images become positioned on others
image or on text...

I think it is a bug in .doc format implementation.

Thanks for you consideration of that issue.

Regards

Thanks for catching this, but I object to such a patch as it is not helpful if
code is built when ENABLE_LAYOUT==0.

I would much rather have ENABLE_LAYOUT always be defined. I'm kind of
flabbergasted it isn't, because ./configure will define it either 0 or 1.

Is this a Windows build? Is Windows using an alternative mechanism?
Could you help me with that, I have never built for Windows.

I do not understand how this issue can crop-up now, this code has been
integrated in m2 or m3 already?

Wrt copyright headers (and lots of other fixes, amongst which building
for Windows with --enable-layout switched on), those are in the
layoutdialogs CWS.

@thb: And you know that to call that a shame is a gross understatement.

Is there *anybody* at all working on Impress? It does not look like that to me.
In that case, I frankly suggest to remove Impress from OOo. If there is (thb,
are you?), then I suggest that this person seriously looks at their priorities
for this module. As others have said, there is not much that is more important
than this bug, yet after several years, we are being told that there is not even
a schedule on when to put this in place. I am at a loss for words.

Dear Joerg,

Thank you for this quick fix. As developers of several Python extensions, this
bug hit us quite hard :).

However a user has reported that the fix does not work for him, and now that I
took a look at it, it is indeed not complete. Let me attach one more patch
(applying to the already patched version) and a version with this patch.

Hi,

yes wntmsci10.pro is Windows build. It pop up now, because wntmsci10.pro was
broken for a few
milestones ;-)

What about #if VARIABLE 0?

There is a long way from configure's ENABLE_LAYOUT to C++ ENABLE_LAYOUT...

BUT: I do not like this if in the header at all...

I suggest we add the following to

toolkit/util/makefile.pmk
svx/util/makefile.pmk
sw/util/makefile.pmk

.IF $(ENABLE_LAYOUT) == TRUE
CFLAGS+=-DENABLE_LAYOUT=1
.ELSE
CFLAGS+=-DENABLE_LAYOUT=0
.ENDIF # ENABLE_LAYOUT == TRUE

In the cws layouterdialogs we will decide how to implement this gracefully.

 I don't have enough time to wonder whether this is a P2 or a P3. :-) It doesn't
matter. The target 2.4.1 says it all: it will be fixed ASAP.

To let Open Office being access remotely:

soffice.exe -accept=socket,host=198.x.x.x,port=8001;urp;

and for the uno:
uno:socket,host=198.x.x.x,port=8001;urp;StarOffice.ComponentContext

Ubuntu:
local connection and remote connection are accepted by Openoffice

When running on window, it can accept connection remotely, but locally, the
error we get is: OpenOffice is not listening to port 8001.

It work with OOo 2.3, but after upgrade, this is the error we get. Testing is
done by using python and pyuno from 2.3 to replace 2.4. It works, so we think
that the error is in pyuno 2.4 window version.

Confirm with 2.4.0!

You can easily create your own test file:

1. Open new speradsheet
2. fill 'A1:A40' with 1
3. fill 'A41:A60' with 2
4. Click on 'A1'
5. cntrl+a to mark all
6. Menu 'Data - Filter - Standard Filter - column A = 1' ok
only rows with 1 visible as expected
7. Menu 'Data - Filter - Standard Filter - column A = 2' ok
Expected: only rows with 2 visible
Actual: additionally rows with 1 (but without row number) visible

[sw-issues] [Issue 22753] Image Cropping with jpeg p review ok but on the page wrong

I've just been having a look at this problem. It only happens with JPEG images
which have an explicit resolution in them (i.e. jpeg_read_header returns with a
cinfo.density_unit != 0). These JPEGs are commonly generated by scanners.

It appears that when an image is inserted as a link, its dimensions are
remembered in ImpGraphic::maEx in Pixels (MAP_PIXELS). When it is inserted
without using a link, its dimensions are remembered in hundredths of a mm
(MAP_100TH_MM). I haven't yet worked out where in the code this distinction is
made, or whether this behaviour is correct.

When the Picture dialogue box is opened, SvxGrfCropPage::GetGrfOrigSize is used
to calculate the original image size in TWIPs. In the former case where the
dimensions have been remembered in pixels, SvxGrfCropPage::GetGrfOrigSize calls
OutputDevice::PixelToLogic to do the conversion; but it uses the resolution of
the output device (96 DPI) rather than the original image resolution so it gets
the wrong answer.

The file landschaftsgartner_8.jpg in the attached .zip for example has a
resolution of 200 DPI which is why it triggers the bug.
The behaviour is also wrong in OpenOffice 2.0.4 on Debian GNU/Linux Etch; it's
not just a Windows problem.

How to reproduce:
1. Open a database document
2. Choose Tools - Customize - Toolbars
3. Press Add... Button
4. The first command entry in the Application category is $Summary

Is anything happening about this? It seems as if this covers the problem that I
have, which is that the fields in the mail merge document relate
to a particular data source such as a query. If a different query is selected
the fields are no longer valid even if they are present in the new query. In
order to use a different data source every field has to be altered. This should
not be necessary.

Sorry, but I'm not sure how to explain this problem. I have a sheet with data on
dice rolls. In the attached file, column B and C, for example, contain data on
dice rolls. Column D is the sum of these two dice rolls using the sum function.
I used the frequency array formula in order to count the frequencies of each
sum (2, 3, 4...12). Using a computer running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and I believe
version 2.3 of OO, the frequency function worked fine. After upgrading to Hardy
and version 2.4, however, the data is out of order.

In the attached file, columns P and Q contain the frequencies of the sums in
columns D and G. When opened with Open Office in Hardy, the values in these
columns are not the same as those generated using Open Office in Windows or on
Linux version 2.3. For comparison, the values in cells P3-P13 should be:

2, 16, 31, 24, 30, 50, 33, 29, 16, 13, 8

For cells Q3-Q13:

5, 11, 24, 17, 35, 36, 33, 39, 32, 13, 7

When I open this file in Hardy I get the following (but note that these seem to
change with each save and open)

P3-P13: 30, 16, 31, 24, 33, 50, 2, 29, 16, 13, 8
Q3-Q13: 33, 11, 24, 17, 36, 35, 5, 39, 32, 13, 7

I hope someone can confirm this as it's very odd and very frustrating. I have
confirmed similar behavior on two separate installs of Hardy.

PS, I thought I would be able to attach a file but I don't see the option. In
case I can't, I originally filed this bug on Launchpad. The files are there
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/209474.

Hi,

please have a look at the Format Codes section of the Help System and also the
Numberformats itself.

It should do the trick I think.

Error is the same for XP / Kubuntu using OOo 2.4 and OOo 2.3.0-Ubuntu5.3

To reproduce:

Open either an embedded form or a report ( Wizard generated only ) from a script
from an ODB file that is not open on the desktop.

The File menu items New, Open, Recent documents to not function. ( All other
file menu items appear to work properly except Exit )

This is similar to, but not identical to Issue #87930 - with the other issue
(File Exit) the problem is removed if you open the ODB subsequent to opening
the database document. With this issue that does not make a difference, only if
the ODB file is opened prior to opening the form or report do these menu items
function properly.

I open a .doc document. It has an image (animated) inside the text.
When you scroll down the display (the text +image goes up), at a particular
line, always the same, the image continues to go up if you stop the scrolling or
faster than the text if you continue scrolling, then looks like touching the top
and comes down to the right place, then goes up again, in an endless process,
like a yoyo.
If you scroll one more line, then the text below the image follows the image
upwards, line by line. when the image comes down the phenomenom restarts.
If you go down to the bottom, the display is OK, but when you scroll up towards
the top, the image is still going up and down with the text attached below.
It looks like that it is the line of text which is in regard of the lift which
is pulled by the image below it.
The phenomenom occurs if you scoll with the lift or with the up and down keys.
I can provide the file which shows the defect. I didn't find on this page where
to attach a file. Sorry for that.
I could reproduce the defect with a file created by OO 3.0 (.odt), by
incorporating the animated image.

Issue 87951 remembered me of finding something similar with 2.4.0 and 2.3.1

Tools Customize ... Add Commands

You can see these strange commands at top of the list for the category:
Category Documents : .uno:SendMailDocAsFormat
Category Format :.uno:FontDialogForParagraph
Category Numbering : .uno:ContinueNumbering

They should have an UI name.

If I start OO.o right after Ubuntu boots it works fine.

If I restart X11, it starts with extremely small fonts and the only way to fix
it is reboot.

From the Ubuntu bug report:

http://lxr.go-oo.org/source/api/offapi/com/sun/star/system/XSystemShellExecute.idl

offapi/com/sun/star/system/XSystemShellExecute.idl

@param aParameter
Specifies a list of space separated parameters. The method does not
validate the given parameters, but only passes it as a parameter to the
specified command.

This should be a list of parameters not a space separated string. Otherwise
calling a shell script that prints its args (which will break running real code)
will return something like this:

arg 1 - $1 = foo bar baz
arg 2 - $2 =
arg 3 - $3 =
all args - $@ = foo bar baz

instead of what it should:

arg 1 - $1 = foo
arg 2 - $2 = bar
arg 3 - $3 = baz
all args - $@ = foo bar baz

As Jim Hutchinson describes in
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/209474):

I mistakenly submitted this as question 28478. I'm adding it here as well
since I can include the file.
Sorry, but I'm not sure how to explain this problem. In short, the spreadsheet
is not working correctly. I have a sheet with data on dice rolls for a project
my daughter is working on. Column B and C, for example contain data on dice
rolls. Column D is the sum of these two dice rolls using the sum function. She
needed to count the frequencies of each sum (2, 3, 4...12). Using the
frequency function this worked fine. After upgrading to hardy, however, the
data is wrong.
In the attached file, columns P and Q contain the frequencies of the sums in
columns D and G. When opened with Open Office in Hardy, the values in these
columns are not the same as those generated using Open Office in Windows
(sorry, I had to test somewhere). For comparison, the values in cells P3-P13
should be:
2, 16, 31, 24, 30, 50, 33, 29, 16, 13, 8
For cells Q3-Q13:
5, 11, 24, 17, 35, 36, 33, 39, 32, 13, 7
When I open this file in Hardy I get the following (note that these seem to
change with each save and open)
P3-P13: 30, 16, 31, 24, 33, 50, 2, 29, 16, 13, 8
 Q3-Q13: 33, 11, 24, 17, 36, 35, 5, 39, 32, 13, 7

(It works correctly on 2.3.0 and wrongly on 2.4.0)

[util-issues] [Issue 87961] Regular expressions bug in 2.4

You must have at least one sub-expression (i.e., a pattern in parentheses) in
the Search for pattern in order to use the sub-expressions in the replace
field.

Try this...

Search for: (.*)
Format: italic
Replace with: [i]$1[/i]

This works for me, except it adds an extraneous 'x' character following the
matching text in each replacement.

That should be reported as a separate issue, I think.

This requirement is rather counter intuitive; perhaps there needs to be a
default Search for pattern of '(.*)' when a format-search is active and the
Search for field is empty.

There are two related issues.

(1) It should be possible for a user to control embedding of the basic 14 fonts
(or metrically equivalent fonts) when exporting to PDF. The basic fonts are
those that every PDF viewer has reasonable substitutes for and so need not be
embedded in the PDF document to minimize the size of the PDF file. But
sometimes one wants all fonts embedded for accuracy; hence this must be a
user-controllable option.

(2) OO.org currently does *not* embed the basic 14 fonts but *does* embed
metrically-equivalent fonts. This is silly. For example, Helvetica is not
embedded but Arial is, and Times is not embedded but Times New Roman is.
Possibly this should be configurable but that isn't really necessary. The PDF
export code should know about metrically equivalent fonts and use the
user-control suggested to address issue (1) to decide whether to embed or not
embed.

@pjanik: sure gpl - that's code that links against xpdf, and is run
out-of-process. This is true for _all_ code residing in this module.

I'm not sure whether issue 53615 covers my problem. When the document is in the
state, that you can call the function, when you write it _newly_ in a cell (the
library is really loaded), than an update all should also work on cells, in
which the function was written the session before.

As instructed I've renamed the 'user' subdirectory to something else and started
OOo 2.4 .

It gave me the question about fonts, the initial dialogs, the OOo 2.4 splash
screen, then displayed a blank text page.

Then I quit OOo, and restarted it by clicking on the application icon. OOo
displayed its initial screen and crashed. Crash Report 2 attached.

Restarted again: OOo offered to restore the document 'Untitled 1' and displayed
a blank text page.
Quit and restart: ...restore document... blank text page.
Quit and restart: crash
Quit and restart: ...restore document... blank text page.
