I am very concerned that this is a strange and complicated problem that unfortunately may fatally disable Norton 360 Version 2.0 and damage Windows Search registry keys on thousands of PCs. I am not sure, but this needs further investigation. Let me make clear that if this is the case that this is a problem with Windows, Open Office, and Norton, not one or the other, and may actually not involve Open Office at all, though I need you to confirm that, quickly. I can't confirm that my source information is accurate either and my interpretation of it all may be flawed. I need some sort of expertise to assist in determining any and all of that because I just am not skilled enough to know, but it is potentially serious. Recently I installed the new Open Office 2.4. To my surprise, the day I did I noticed someting odd. My Symantec Norton 360 Version 2.0 suddenly stopped working and started to return errors. The errors are generic, but basically they stop a critical service from running. A reboot restarts the services, but they soon fail again, for reasons explained below. As I started to investigate, I discovered, after reading a few dozen forums online, that the problem may have something to do with a defect in Norton with dll files and that a patch has since resolved the issue. Having updated Norton 360 version 2 to the fullest, I started to wonder what else might be wrong. I kept searching and discovered that in my event viewer Windows tells me: -- WinMail (3148) WindowsMail0: The database engine stopped the instance (0). -- Faulting application ccSvcHst.exe [A Symantec Service] -- The protocol handler Search.Mapi2Handler.1 cannot be loaded. Error description: Class not registered. Researching further I discovered that MS is aware of an issue in Windows Vista x64 that causes the last error to appear, but that it should be ignored by Windows as information. I found some people online, however, who seem to have linked that to a problem in Windows Mail. I noticed that it happened often when I did check my e-mail. I found one site claiming to have resolved that by altering the registry. I tried to do the same. To my surprise, this had something to do with Windows Search needing those keys in order to search for e-mail in Windows Vista. When I re-opened Windows Mail, it gave me some sort of message about reloading files, after I added the changes to the registry, and I could see it was making changes per my registry modifications. Shortly after though, I had the Symantec Norton problem again. Researching further, some programmers I read online suggested that the problem was relarted to Windows Search looking for 64-bit files for searching in a system folder, WOW64, and that these did not exist because the program was inherantly 32-bit. They said, I believe, that some APIs look for 64-bit extensions or something to that effect and that these simply do not exist, so Windows returns errors as if registry keys are missing when they are not. I looked deeper into that, and lo and behold I found 1 blog where a user described linking that to the functions of Norton 360. It all started to make sense. Although, I wondered what in the world started all of this in the first place. I was concerned it was Norton, naturally. So, I contacted Symantec, which as usual played dumb and could not assist me. They insisted that the problem was a Windows issue, which it partially is, but that they had no more information in their knowledge base. I have never had success with them, period. I kept looking after that. What I found next may shed some real light. I started looking more closely at other things coming up on my searches on Google and noticed that other people kept mentioning that this problem only occurrs when you have Microsoft Outlook installed. That hit me like a ton of bricks that the only thing evenly remotely close to that ever put on this PC was Open Office, which just so happens to recognize Office file types. I

[sc-issues] [Issue 87937] Paste Special obviated by ubiquitous structured Text Import feature
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87937 --- Additional comments from Sun Apr 6 06:29:41 + 2008 --- Upon further research, it appears that this issue relates back to countless issues related to the behavior of the Text Import dialog. At some point I believe this behavior should be rethought. Hooking into every paste *except* when its only a single line while not giving the option for the user to bypass it for common repetitive actions (such as tab-delimited data from a plain text source) seems very kludgy or perhaps feature lacking. Ideally the Text import dialog would only appear for Paste Special operations and default to the user's preference for simple Paste operations. Not sure if this is a usability bug, enhancement request or even a duplicate. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Actually midl.exe in VS .NET 2003 cannot compile IDL with Vista SDK. However, compiler tools' pathes are usually put before PSDK path. The life cycle of our documents needs to have lot's of revisions (using the revision module), some are done with openoffice, others with ms Word that's why we cannot, for the moment, use OpenDocument format. Sometimes, documents lost image position in Ms Word, and it make the document unreadable (for human eyes...) because, all images become positioned on others image or on text... I think it is a bug in .doc format implementation. Thanks for you consideration of that issue. Regards - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I would much rather have ENABLE_LAYOUT always be defined. I'm kind of flabbergasted it isn't, because ./configure will define it either 0 or 1. Is this a Windows build? Is Windows using an alternative mechanism? Could you help me with that, I have never built for Windows. I do not understand how this issue can crop-up now, this code has been integrated in m2 or m3 already? To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=22753 --- Additional comments from Sun Apr 6 11:41:12 + 2008 --- I've just been having a look at this problem. It only happens with JPEG images which have an explicit resolution in them (i.e. jpeg_read_header returns with a cinfo.density_unit != 0). These JPEGs are commonly generated by scanners. It appears that when an image is inserted as a link, its dimensions are remembered in ImpGraphic::maEx in Pixels (MAP_PIXELS). When it is inserted without using a link, its dimensions are remembered in hundredths of a mm (MAP_100TH_MM). I haven't yet worked out where in the code this distinction is made, or whether this behaviour is correct. When the Picture dialogue box is opened, SvxGrfCropPage::GetGrfOrigSize is used to calculate the original image size in TWIPs. In the former case where the dimensions have been remembered in pixels, SvxGrfCropPage::GetGrfOrigSize calls OutputDevice::PixelToLogic to do the conversion; but it uses the resolution of the output device (96 DPI) rather than the original image resolution so it gets the wrong answer. The file landschaftsgartner_8.jpg in the attached .zip for example has a resolution of 200 DPI which is why it triggers the bug. The behaviour is also wrong in OpenOffice 2.0.4 on Debian GNU/Linux Etch; it's not just a Windows problem. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87954 Issue #|87954 Summary|values in a frequency array randomly move around Component|Spreadsheet Version|OOo 2.4.0 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|viewing Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|jphutch --- Additional comments from Sun Apr 6 15:22:21 + 2008 --- Sorry, but I'm not sure how to explain this problem. I have a sheet with data on dice rolls. In the attached file, column B and C, for example, contain data on dice rolls. Column D is the sum of these two dice rolls using the sum function. I used the frequency array formula in order to count the frequencies of each sum (2, 3, 4...12). Using a computer running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and I believe version 2.3 of OO, the frequency function worked fine. After upgrading to Hardy and version 2.4, however, the data is out of order. In the attached file, columns P and Q contain the frequencies of the sums in columns D and G. When opened with Open Office in Hardy, the values in these columns are not the same as those generated using Open Office in Windows or on Linux version 2.3. For comparison, the values in cells P3-P13 should be: 2, 16, 31, 24, 30, 50, 33, 29, 16, 13, 8 For cells Q3-Q13: 5, 11, 24, 17, 35, 36, 33, 39, 32, 13, 7 When I open this file in Hardy I get the following (but note that these seem to change with each save and open) P3-P13: 30, 16, 31, 24, 33, 50, 2, 29, 16, 13, 8 Q3-Q13: 33, 11, 24, 17, 36, 35, 5, 39, 32, 13, 7 I hope someone can confirm this as it's very odd and very frustrating. I have confirmed similar behavior on two separate installs of Hardy. PS, I thought I would be able to attach a file but I don't see the option. In case I can't, I originally filed this bug on Launchpad. The files are there https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/209474. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 87958] bad scrolling with animate d image within the text
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=87958 Issue #|87958 Summary|bad scrolling with animated image within the text Component|Word processor Version|DEV300m2 Platform|Macintosh URL| OS/Version|Mac OS X Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P4 Subcomponent|viewing Assigned to|mru Reported by|roland_flageollet --- Additional comments from Sun Apr 6 16:53:41 + 2008 --- I open a .doc document. It has an image (animated) inside the text. When you scroll down the display (the text +image goes up), at a particular line, always the same, the image continues to go up if you stop the scrolling or faster than the text if you continue scrolling, then looks like touching the top and comes down to the right place, then goes up again, in an endless process, like a yoyo. If you scroll one more line, then the text below the image follows the image upwards, line by line. when the image comes down the phenomenom restarts. If you go down to the bottom, the display is OK, but when you scroll up towards the top, the image is still going up and down with the text attached below. It looks like that it is the line of text which is in regard of the lift which is pulled by the image below it. The phenomenom occurs if you scoll with the lift or with the up and down keys. I can provide the file which shows the defect. I didn't find on this page where to attach a file. Sorry for that. I could reproduce the defect with a file created by OO 3.0 (.odt), by incorporating the animated image. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm adding it here as well since I can include the file. Sorry, but I'm not sure how to explain this problem. In short, the spreadsheet is not working correctly. I have a sheet with data on dice rolls for a project my daughter is working on. Column B and C, for example contain data on dice rolls. Column D is the sum of these two dice rolls using the sum function. She needed to count the frequencies of each sum (2, 3, 4...12). Using the frequency function this worked fine. After upgrading to hardy, however, the data is wrong. In the attached file, columns P and Q contain the frequencies of the sums in columns D and G. When opened with Open Office in Hardy, the values in these columns are not the same as those generated using Open Office in Windows (sorry, I had to test somewhere). For comparison, the values in cells P3-P13 should be: 2, 16, 31, 24, 30, 50, 33, 29, 16, 13, 8 For cells Q3-Q13: 5, 11, 24, 17, 35, 36, 33, 39, 32, 13, 7 When I open this file in Hardy I get the following (note that these seem to change with each save and open) P3-P13: 30, 16, 31, 24, 33, 50, 2, 29, 16, 13, 8 Q3-Q13: 33, 11, 24, 17, 36, 35, 5, 39, 32, 13, 7 (It works correctly on 2.3.0 and wrongly on 2.4.0) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Try this... Search for: (.*) Format: italic Replace with: $1 This works for me, except it adds an extraneous 'x' character following the matching text in each replacement. That should be reported as a separate issue, I think. This requirement is rather counter intuitive; perhaps there needs to be a default Search for pattern of '(.*)' when a format-search is active and the Search for field is empty. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [gsl-issues] [Issue 87968] font embedding control for PDF export

(1) It should be possible for a user to control embedding of the basic 14 fonts (or metrically equivalent fonts) when exporting to PDF. The basic fonts are those that every PDF viewer has reasonable substitutes for and so need not be embedded in the PDF document to minimize the size of the PDF file. But sometimes one wants all fonts embedded for accuracy; hence this must be a user-controllable option. (2) OO.org currently does *not* embed the basic 14 fonts but *does* embed metrically-equivalent fonts. This is silly. For example, Helvetica is not embedded but Arial is, and Times is not embedded but Times New Roman is. Possibly this should be configurable but that isn't really necessary. The PDF export code should know about metrically equivalent fonts and use the user-control suggested to address issue (1) to decide whether to embed or not embed. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
