This is a not a bug in the installer, it concerns the building of the RPM
packages for Linux. I couldn't find a better place in the bugtracker.

I installed the 2.4.0 RPMs on a Fedora 8 (x86) box.

Now, whenever I run "yum update" it wants to replace the 2.4.0 packages with
Fedoras 2.3.0 RPMs.

The issue may be that the spec file is lacking an Epoch.
(see http://sial.org/howto/rpm/epoch/)

Here's the relevant output:
# rpm -q fedora-release
fedora-release-8-5
# rpm -qa|grep openoff

When inserting page numbers I adjusted it to number not from 1 byt from 8.
On the last 7 pages there is no page number displayed only page number field
with dot.
It seems, that if you shift numbering, it finishes numbering, not on the end of
document, but stops numbering when reaching number of pages in documnet. I also
changed shift number and still the same behavior.
When I entered new page after, page numbering was ending page later.

Also, I confirmed that this is also true for OpenOffice on Windows.

@rainerbielefeld:
I can see this set with other applications - I tried charmap on Windows and
kcharselect on OpenSuse, which I eventually used to copy/paste into Writer.

I checked with "2.4.0 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[680m12(Build9286)]" and can NOT confirm the reported effect.

@sknox:
Please read our guidelines on
 and
, then
contribute a clear step by step instruction containing all observations (error
messages ...), every key press and every mouse click how to reproduce the
problem, and explain why you believe that your results are unexpected.

It's really only a WRITER problem, not with CALC and DRAW?

Please explain more detailed what "Unable to change text color" means. Missing
menu entry?

May be some screenshots can be useful.

Please attach a sample file with "invisible colour changes"!

I have a project in MS Excel with rotated cells at 45 degrees. all of the cells
have borders and other formatting. When I open the project in OpenOffice.org
4.0 my borders, once rotated, are now vertical. This should be fixed for those
that rotate not only the text but the borders as well. Thank-you.

If needed, I can e-mail the project as an example of this bug or even take a
screenshot.

[dba-issues] [Issue 86855] embedded database forms op ened from macro, when ODB file is not open on desktop DO NOT write data to disk

Well, it is my fault for not getting back on this then..

To reproduce under XP:

Download the attached ODB file.
Register it as "i86855"
Copy this basic procedure, slightly modifiied from a post reporting the problem
on the forum, to any
library ( Standard? ).

Function OpenForm
Dim Context As Object
Dim DB As Object
Dim Conn As Object
Dim FormDoc As Object
Dim Form AS Object
Dim Args(1) As New com.sun.star.beans.PropertyValue
Context=CreateUnoService("com.sun.star.sdb.DatabaseContext")
DB=Context.getByName("i86855")
Database=DB.getConnection("","")
Args(0).Name="ActiveConnection"
Args(0).Value=Database
Args(1).Name="OpenMode"
Args(1).Value="open"
FormDoc=DB.DatabaseDocument.FormDocuments.loadComponentFromURL
("Contacts","_blank",0,Args() )
End Function

Make sure quickstarter is running. ( not needed totally, but shows the full
problem, IMO )
*without* having opened the ODB file interactively, run that macro.
Add some data to the table using the form and close the form.
Completely exit OOo ( including quickstarter )

Open the ODB file and look at the table - no data was saved.

FYI - as long quickstarter is running you can open that form multiple times
with the macro and the data
will be retained - you can add more, or edit it, each time the edits are
displayed in the form when it is
opened. As soon as OOo is actually closed ( quickstarter is closed ) then all
changes are lost.

Unable to change text color. No matter what I choose, all I get is black.

Background and highlight colors work fine. Pre-existing documents, in which text
color was working, are now all only in black.

I have tried the toolbar and the menus.

If I set the color from inside Options, though, the color does change. So I can
turn all the text blue or whatever. It's currently set to Automatic. No matter
what I choose, though, I am unable to change selected text to any other color
from either the toolbar or the menus.

An issue search on "color" did not turn up anything relevant.

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Apr 7 22:46:21 +

I can confirm this behaviour with OOo 2.4 and the new OOo DEV 3.0 beta 5
I am using a mandriva loinux installation where the linux login is authenticated
using ldap (only root user exist in passwd (as "normal" user account), all the
others log in using ldap.)

for every user that logs in using ldap, OOo 2.2 (that comes with mandriva)
crashes with a segmentation fault (just after reading passwd file) OOo 2.4
downloaded from openoffice.org website crashes with segmentation fault, and the
new beta of OOo 3 also crashes with segmentation fault.

If I create a local account on that machine and starts OOo from that account,
everything works as expected. This is a very serious bug which unfourtunally
might mean that OOo cannot be used for local goverments, etc where centralized
user managment is used (ldap).

* open an application, which one doesn't matter
* do File -> Save as...
* find a file you already have on your disk and right-click it
* choose Rename
* press the Esc key
* OOo crashes

I looked for something similar in the issue tracker but was not able to find
anything close to this, sorry if I'm duplicating something.

I am able to reproduce this bug on Debian Etch, Etch+backports, Lenny, Sid -
versions 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 - on Debian Sid/OOo 2.4 I tried every application,
using a currently opened file or another one with the same result.
The bug seems to only be about the Esc key, pressing Enter insted of Esc,
effectively renaming the file, just works. Renaming the folder containing the
file gets OOo to re-create the original folder with the original file in it.
Renaming a folder inside a folder in which OOo has no write permissions produces
an error but no crash.

Ok, that's it!

I was running OOo 2.3.1 under Gnome 2.1.16. I downloaded 2.4.0 and installed
it. After the update, none of the installed launchers could locate the
executables, and even nautilus reverted to the wrong program to open office
files.

The problem is that OOo 2.4.0 is looking in a 2.4 directory for the executables,
but the 2.3.1 prior installation has them in a 2.3 directory.

Specifically, I had OOo 2.3.1 installed in /opt/openoffice.org2.3, but 2.4 looks
for the executables in /opt/openoffice.org2.4.

There have been several posts on this topic - usually about the Canadian English
dictionary, or lack thereof. The response has been one of "we need a better
dictionary installer." However, I note that the Canadian English dictionary
hasn't been updated in years, while the essentially identical UK English
dictionary is fairly recent.

I suggest therefore that rather than adding an installer to make it easier to
install the dictionary, simply add the following lines to the dictionary.lst
file:

DICT en CA en_GB
HYPH en CA hyph_en_GB
THES en CA th_en_US_v2

This works and eliminates the need for another dictionary.

writer crashes if a text (drawing object) is edeiten in a OLE object, that has
just been inserted (pasted) from Drwa / Impress.

to reproduce:
- create a new writer doc
- create a new Draw document
- in draw, create a text (drawing element from the drwaing toolbar)
- type som text
- select text (the drawing element) and copy to clipboard
- in writer , use edit - insert special and insert as Draw8 (OLE onject will be
inserted)
- activate the OLE for editing
- change the text
- leave the OLE

-> crash

this seems to happen only in writer and only if the OLE object has just been
pasted from impress / draw. If the Writer document is saved before editing, all
is fine.

When creating an alphabetical index using a concordance .sdi file, the text
inside of frames seems to be skipped. The text in the body of the document is
correctly indexed.

To reproduce this, create a document that has tex in the body of the dcument and
same text frames with text in the frames. Also have a concordance.sdi file on
hand that has index terms that appear in the text in the text frame(s), and the
body text as well.

Insert Index/Table, Type, Alphabetical index, check concordance file, select
.sdi file you're using.

The only text that is marked up (and thus appears in the index), is the
document's body text. The text in the text frames is skipped. (It should be
marked up using the .sdi concordance, just as the body text is marked up -
that's the bug.)

I'm guessing that whatever traverses the document during the concordance .sdi
indexing, forgets to traverse the text frames and so doesn't index them.

confirmed with DEV300_m3 Windows and DEV300_m6 Linux.

Seems, that this is because the setting "fit height to text" of the textframe is
not respected on load

Cell containes more than one line (line-break is activated).
There are shown not all lines.
Cell is therefore marked with a little red triangular.
Doubleclick to cell or enter it to get edit-modus seems to change font. Now one
linebreak disappears.

See also issues
80773
and
75701
and
64566

(I already use TOOLS-OPTIONS-OPENOFFICECALC-GENERAL-Use
printer metrics for text formatting.)

I would like to see the whole cell-content (and not the red triangular instead),
meens to get a vertically longer cell (one more line) on monitor too, not only
in the pdf...

fs->mav: Argh, you're absolutely right ... I missed the point that in fact the
previous version of the listener had its own mutex, while I introduced sharing
the mutex with the owner object. Sorry, seems I completely forgot about this -
my fault.

That said, I am not sure the SolarMutex is a good solution here. While I see
Mathias' point that calling into SFX-code should be guarded by the SolarMutex, I
tend to not introduce such a pest (and locking the SM *is* a pest, as it over
time propagates to all components which use the component which does it) without
a real need.

My preferred solution would be to add correct lifetime handling for the listener
instance, in that it is not re-used for another storage, but disposed when the
document/storage is disposed, and re-created when needed.

However, that's at your discretion. Base should be fine with any of the
solutions, including a locked SolarMutex.

Sorry for introducing this bug. If you think the one who introduced it should
also fix it, then please feel free to re-assign the issue back to me - I will of
course let you review the fix then :)

Friends,

I used WinXP, 2.4.0 US + 2.4rc6 dutch.

The relative link was to a pdf document, created by importing a html document
which contains relative links into a section (i.e. a linked html document).

The link shows as a full path (starting with file:///) in the odt, although it
is actually relative as can be seen when moving the document to another
location. In other word similar to rainer's above, but ending with pdf).

I only checked the options described, so exporting then to pdf, with PDF/A-1
UNchecked.

rainer, in your case I wonder how the string inside the pdf actually looks. I
would expect (./linked%20path/linked.pdf)

It may be the case that your pdf viewer accepts this (as does kpdf), but Acrobat
does not.

Ferry

I have Java 6u5 on my PC already. I installed OOo2.4 and it installed Java 6u4.
OOo should check to see if Java is already installed, if it is a higher
version, and if so, use it. To install an old, security vulnerability filled
version of Java is a horrific IA practice.

mod->fme/ama:

yes, this fixed the issue, but created two new ones:

- when selecting a word outside a table and applying a new style or e.g
switching to bold using shortcut combination, an anchor inside the table jumps
below the table

- changing formatting the same way of a word inside the table:
the cursor jumps into the cell of the anchor and there shows up an selection
starting from the changed formatting word to the anchor-cell

Especially the move of the real cursor I don't understand, isn't that's exactly
why I am pushing and popping a cursor so all my operation do not operate on the
real cursor?

Found out what you were talking about. Field type is only set when you click on
column type. In hindsight, seems logical. However, not intuitive, and needs a
mention in the UI.

I know about the field types while importing.

I did mention that this "column type" entry was disabled for some reason.

I would like to reopen this issue, as your resolution was known and doesn't
really solve the particular case I am talking about.

Let me know if I should rename this issue as "Column type entry in csv import
disabled" and reopen it.

Or, shall I reopen emphasizing the part where I mention that this is a case when
the "column type" entry is disabled.

Can confirm it with OOo 2.4 (final) on Win2k en-locale.

This is probably a regression of issue 20496:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=20496

It strikes me, that the cell is not converted to a formula, but one end e.g.
with a string like: -1A1

[sc-issues] [Issue 87999] In "standard" data type cs v import should never convert items with one d ot to dates

A similar discussion took place in December on the OOo Sc-mailing list:
http://sc.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=dev&msgNo=2751

It was my experience that the automatic date-recognition mechanism will never
reach an acceptable level of reliability in true life. It annoys me over and
over again when OOo Calc tries to figure out what date it is, when there is
really *NO* date. And "outsmarting" the user is a sure way to earn you a lot of
anger.

It was therefore my belief, that OOo needs a mechanism to set the
date-interpretation algorithm (aka which numbers are dates):
 - e.g. 'dd.mm' should be interpreted as date
 - others might choose only 'dd/mm'
 - and still others only 'mm/dd'

Indeed, this would give complete control back to the users. Especially users in
multi-locale environments would benefit from this feature, but many others would
be grateful, too.

A feature, useful if you have some linked ODF documents and want to maintain the
links in OOo (e.g. traversing them). It's governed by the checkbox 'Convert
document references to PDF targets'.

>No idea what "PDF/A-1" might mean. Your OS is top secret?

By PDF/A-1 I meant that this issue should not be present exporting to PDF/A-1
(ISO 19005-1:2005) format.

I tested on Linux Debian but IMHO this the issue is present on all OS.

I don't know about ftoth OS beppec56 here ;-).

@pl.
I'm going to build a debug dev300-m5 version, figuring out a patch.

MacOS X fonts need to be converted to get used by the X11 version of OOo. It is
very unlikely that saying
yes to any of these questions will do any harm to any of your documents.

However, you might want to try the aqua version of OOo, which doesn't asked
these questions as it can
use the MacOS X fonts directly. Even though it is not released yet, I think it
already is quite usable.

You must set the data type in the import dialog. Settings in the document later
on are to late.

In the import dialog click on the column heading. This enables the
drop-down-list of the data types.

Your data line imports without errors here, if I set the correct types in the
import dialog.

Please use a mailing list or forum to get help in using OOo.

I searched quite a while on the reported issues here, and I am still convinced
that none of the other bugs satisfies my query.

To summarize, Ooo 2.3.0(part of Ubuntu Gutsy) makes a mess of dates while
importing from CSV files.

My bank statements are of this format - here is the test file I am using to
duplicate my problem:

==
1|04-06-2007|Some Invoice detail  |
|CR|15,300.00|25,389.57
==
(One single pipe separated line above, do correct if it has been wrapped)

One irritating problem is that when I have several lines like the above to
import, Ooo formats the date in the column in every line differently. Some are
formatted as date, some are formatted as text. And no, for some reason I cannot
set the column type for each of the fields as it appears to have been disabled
for some reason.

But the main problem is, unlike what is said in other bug resolutions, the
locale doesn't seem to have an effect on the wrong formatting of the column.

The date above is in mm-dd- format, and stands for 6th April 2007.

If I set the locale of the document to English(USA), import a test file with
just the above line, and then format the column into -mm-dd format, OOo
displays the date as 2007-06-04 or 4th June 2007, which is incorrect.

I change the locale to English(India) before importing, it is still the same
error.

What should I be doing to tell OOo to import this column with the mm-dd-
format and interpret it correctly?

Unfortunately a security problem forced us to change the implementation to no
longer comply to the specification. We first need a secure replacement for
opening URLs from documents before we can fix this. See issue 84718 for progress
updates.

-> rainerbielefeld. I'm attaching the PDF dialog set up as image. Please check
with this.
Confirm that PDF/A-1 is not checked.

In any case it seems that the GoToR PDF command inside the PDF file is badly
formed.

The log indicates that you have installed _all_ *-menus packages from OOo 2.3.1
on your system (while you are supposed to pick the one that meets your Linux
flavor best).

If that is correct, how did you get those conflicting packages installed in the
first place ? Also by using 'setup' ?

The system in question is running Ubuntu 7.10 32 bit and using OO 2.3.0 (the
"About OpenOffice" shows "openoffice.org-core 1:2.3.0 lubuntu 5.3")

Using Writer, I can insert footers but when I try to insert a Page Number field,
the footer shows the words "Page Count" where I would expect to see the page
number. In addition if I attempt to insert the page count field the footer
places the word "Statistics" where the page count should appear. In fact each
of the available fields that can be added to the footer is incorrect.

I have second computer using Ubuntu 7.10 and OpenOffice 2.3 and this error does
not occur on that computer.

I have completely un-installed OpenOffice using the Synaptic Package Manager and
re-installed OpenOffice but the error is still exactly the same.

Please advise if there is anything I can do to track down this issue and
possibly correct it.

Mac

fme->mod: In current versions,

SwCursor* pCrsr = IsTableMode() ? pTblCrsr : pCurCrsr;

has been moved to a function getShellCrsr(). My idea was to have a

SwCursor* pCrsr = pCurCrsr;

in GotoFld(), to assure that pCurCrsr is modified by this function instead of
the table cursor.

I created a document with a relative links to documents "linked

to PDF and tried the links in it: "linked.odt" has been opened with OOo and
"linked.pdf" in AR8 as expected.
