Please tell us when this has been integrated into localized builds, so we can
publicize the improvement.
The lack of a localized installer is unfortunately widely-known as a
disadvantage of OpenOffice.org for
Windows, so as soon as we have a build with the viable installer, we want to
spread the word!

In Calc, in a spreadsheet with any content, picking up a worksheet tab (as if
to reorder the tabs) and
dropping the tab back on itself causes the entire contents of the worksheet to
be deleted.

This often happens when I am switching worksheets and inadvertently move my
mouse while selecting the
tabs.

Same problem occurs for the rpm install:

# cd DEV300_m20_native_packed-1_en-US.9318/RPMS
# rpm -ivh --prefix=/mnt/extra/opt/DEV300_m20 *.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:

  ooobasis3.0-en-US is needed by ooobasis3.0-en-US-binfilter-3.0.0-9318.i586

I think I first noticed this with m19, but I'm not 100% sure of that. Certainly
m19, m20 and now m21 all had the same problem.

I always install the snapshots as a clean install, not an upgrade.

I don't really understand the details of rpm packaging, but this looks like it
may be a simple naming mismatch: e.g. binfilter requires "ooobasis3.0-calc" but
none of the calc package provides that exact name:

# for pkg in `rpm -qa | grep ooobasis.*-calc`; do echo "$pkg:"; rpm -q
--provides "$pkg"|sed -e 's/^/ /'; done
ooobasis-dev3.0-en-US-calc-3.0.0-9319.i586:
   ooobasis-dev30-en_US-calc
   ooobasis-dev3.0-en-US-calc = 3.0.0-9319
ooobasis-dev3.0-calc-3.0.0-9319.i586:
   ooobasis-dev3.0-calc = 3.0.0-9319

I have just noticed that Openoffice.org 2.4 and 2.4.1 both fix the issue for my
report, so I have updated to 2.4.1. I am gratified that my problem prompted
further evaluation and development. I would love to see whether the new fixes
being proposed affect it negatively. I could also have simply inserted spaces in
the appropriate places in the document to force a break.

Heh, 6000 installed fonts?! Even dedicated font managers can have trouble with
that number.

More likely to impact on users would be a modest number of installed fonts that
include some particularly fancy display fonts containing complex glyphs, such as
some Renaissance-style initial caps, very intricate dingbats, or fonts with
fancy shading etc, all of which take a while to display.

Some form of caching would be a solution.

That said, I've just opened a request (issue 91032) for a user-definable font
list, which could help circumvent problems.

Can confirm problem on 3.0 dev. Actually, I see no warning at all for missing
fonts (on XP). Desired behaviour would be similar to InDesign:

On opening doc with missing fonts, OOo to display warning message and three
options:

   - Ignore
   - Change fonts temporarily
   - Change fonts permanently

First option proceeds as OOo does now, temporarily substituting whatever seems
right without altering the document's font definitions.

Second option opens a dialog for the user to match installed fonts to document
fonts, for display use only (ie. without changing the document's font
definitions)

Third option is similar to second but changes the actual font names in the doc
(ie. substitutes them).

This is almost certainly a problem with the fonts: even professional font
designers forget the simple step of ensuring that the "Typo Line Gap" defined in
each font matches across all styles in a font family.

As a workaround in OOo, you can used a fixed (eg. 1cm) line spacing.

I'd suggest closing the issue as it's not OOo at fault.

It would be nice to have the ability for users to define which (installed) fonts
get to appear in OOo's drop-down list. On Windows, for instance, a bunch of
fonts are needed by the system but are never used by me when working with OOo
(eg. Courier, Marlett, Tahoma, MS Reference, Verdana etc). It would be great to
be able to choose which fonts appear in the list.

I concur with later comments: expected behaviour these days (with Unicode) is
not to "protect" characters. Modern symbol-style fonts, such as from Adobe, use
Unicode to encode their characters, so fonts can be changed without losing the
symbols.

Obviously, a lot of fonts still don't use Unicode. It may then be useful to have
OOo implement an easy method for protecting sections of text if a user wishes
(ie. user selects text and clicks a "protect" button or right-clicks to select
"protect").

The conversion types including vbWide and vbNarrow are only applied to East Asia

The conversion types including vbKatakana and vbHiragana are only applied to

Just a thought: anything to do with font formats? (as in OOo's inability to
create PDFs with postscript or postscript-flavoured OTF fonts)

Just to help narrow things down: the original doc renders fine on XP with OOo
3.0 dev (uses installed Myriad Pro for Myriad).

I notice on the FontBook screenshot that Italic and Bold Italic (not condensed)
are missing. Related?

Cannot reproduce (XP: spacing is fine with Arial, which replaces the missing
font). Incidentally, my install uses no font replacement table. Also looks okay
with the actual Albertus Medium fonts.

Does the problem persist on an RTF export? If yes, it might be useful to post
that file, as it'd be easy to read the code. I guess the issue has died a
natural death though.

In the past I've noticed weird font/spacing behaviour from OOo regarding RTF or
older Doc versions (eg. from Word 6.0 or Word 97), or in docs not produced by MS
Word.

Thought I've sift through some unconfirmed font issues. This one seems to be
caused either by a system-level conflict between two versions of Lucida Sans, or
bad fonts (incorrect internal names and/or weights). Though I'm not on Linux,
such a situation will confuse most apps on XP, and I've already seen at least
one Lucida set with completely screwed up internal names.

I'd suggest closing the issue as it doesn't appear to be OOo's fault.

I am not able to properly format the graphic object in page 6 of the following
document:
http://www.multiaxismotion.com/Projects/O.1000/P.1/PHzMon_Documentation.odt

The aspect ratio is not correct and the graphic needs to be cropped.
The "Picture" option in the Format menu is disabled when I select this object.
If I open the context menu's Object option, Type tab, Size group; then check
the Width.Relative, Height.Relative, and Keep Ratio checkboxes followed by
clicking the "Original Size" button, the object's aspect ratio is corrected.

The desired result is to be able to increase the graphic size so that the
actual graphic fits nicely in a 7.1" x 10" frame with correct aspect ratio and
with unwanted white space cropped. I am unable to figure out how to do this in
OO 2.4.1.

This is a bit of a show stopper for me because I import graphics into my
documents very often. This is the first time I tried OO 2.4.x I do not
remember experiencing this problem in 2.3 versions.

Can't confirm (no fonts or Gentoo, so I may be completely off-mark) but I can
say that although the fonts on the two screenshots appear different, the
relative spacing is identical, so visual differences in glyph outlines appear to
be the result of rendering/hinting (the oowriter-2.4.1 version is properly
hinted, either either grayscale or whatever the Gentoo equivalent to ClearType
is, whilst the 3.0 version isn't).

My guess is something up with Freetype 2.3.6.

The problem seems to be caused by OOo Write files that have become corrupted
after being created in OOo dev 3 m19, reworked in 2.4.1, and finally back in m
20 and m21. It seems to be related to notes. In these files, inserting notes
makes the program crash.
I have reported a problem with icons and notes, and attached a file in issue

I can modify the icons in the toolbar when I do that with a new empty file, but

I attach a file where the problem happens

I try to import a tab delimited utf-8 text file (in Ubuntu 8.4),
but some lines are strangelly chopped
its not the problem of column limit (as the last column is GF)
the problem happens at EP3 cell:
instead of "Domisi naujausiomis..."
it leaves just "Domi" :/

Seams to be the issue with line length, because if I strip it from beggining, it
leaves as many characers more at the end (now it chops at 63036-th character)

The file: http://popmokslas.projektas.lt/etc/example.txt (is it possible to
upload/attach it to the bug?)

copying from clipboard also gives similar problems (the chop-places seems to
depend on encoding a bit (windows-1257 chops ~20-50 characters later)

OOo-dev300m20 on GNU/Linux.

OOo Writer crashes when trying to customize a toolbar.
This is a regression issue as in 2.4.1 there is no problem.

To reproduce:
1) create a new Writer document
2) Tools > Customize
3) Select the Toolbar page
4) select an icon in the Standard toolbar (see note below)
5) select Modify > Change icon
OOo Crashes.

Note: for the first selected icon, all the options that appear when pressing the
modify button are grayed out. Only when selecting a different icon the options
become active.

Cheers,

Michele

Hi Tim,
I could not reproduce with 2.4.x / 3.0Dev on Linux.
Which OOo vesion do you have? The official build from Sun, or the one shipped
with Ubuntu?

Just an FYI, I'm seeing the same issue as described in a previous comment in
this bug with the following Windows build:

Win-XP2-503-npower10-install_set.zip

Modifying the following file:

OpenOffice.org/Basis\ 3.0/program/fundamentalbasis.ini

with the following modification didn't seem to fix the problem:

URE_MORE_TYPES=$ORIGIN/offapi.rdb $ORIGIN/oovbaapi.rdb
${${$ORIGIN/uno.ini:PKG_SharedUnoFile}:UNO_TYPES}
${${$ORIGIN/uno.ini:PKG_UserUnoFile}:UNO_TYPES}

Since Noel already mentioned in this bug that it is not specific to npower10, I
will not reopen this issue. I'm just curious as to what steps are needed on
Windows to work around this issue.

This issue was created 6 years ago. It has 50 votes. Is it not enough? Please
don't write about character rotation and Shift+Enter as a workaround - it looks
ugly. I don't know who uses direction "Right-to-left(vertical)" in tables - it
works great in OOo. But we always use "Vertical, left-to-right" in Russia and
Ukraine, which will not be implemented even in OOo3.0.

Application: Ooo WriterVersion: 3.0.0
O.S.: Windows XP

Summary: Copy/pasted images that have been saved/reopened in an Ooo-Writer
  document move position.

Details: When I was copy/pasting a screenshot (for testing purposes), I noticed
that each time that I saved and closed the writer document, the images in a set
position would move either to another page or overlap another image upon
reopening the same document.

Steps: 1. Open a new Open Office Writer document.
2. Paste screen shot(s) and save.
3. Close the document.
4. Reopen the same document. (The second and third screen shots down

show the defect upon reopening).

Hello,

sorry I did not track this issue for a couple of month. But now I'm tested the
latest stable and the new beta release and can confirm the flickering is gone
for this document. The status bar only makes one and a half run. For me this is
good enough and normal users probably would not notice the second (half) run,
too.
So the issue can be closed for the new 3.0 Release :-) Can I do this or must
this be done by one of the developers?

Keep up the good work
CU Dirk

Unfortunately I can't send you the file where the problem happens, and I do not
have any other document with the same characteristics (it is an academic book I
am writing). I have also tested with another document, a long plain text
document (Don Quixote) with no references, nor graphics, etc, to which I added
a lot of notes, but in this case, there were no problems.
It worked OK up to m19. With m20 and m21 things went wrong. In both cases, I
uninstalled the program and installed again m19 and in this case there were no
problems. In every case I used the same document.
I work now withe the same document in 2.4.1 and there is no problem.
I am afraid thus that this report will have to remain unconfirmed.

for a generel maturity and in-depth stability I would like to see at least an
exception here that can be catched.

on the scripting-level it would be great to have a kind of wait-until-finished
command/flag or a stillPrinting Property or similar to circumvent the bug on
the scripting side. Maybe like in this pseudo code:

dim args1(1) as new com.sun.star.beans.PropertyValue
args1(0).Name = "Printer"
args1(0).Value = printer
args1(1).Name = "UIWait"
args1(1).Value = true
dispatcher.executeDispatch(document, ".uno:Printer", "", 0, args1())
dispatcher.waitForExecuteDispatchDone(document, ".uno:Printer")

I'm quite new to scripting OOo and I do not know, maybe there is a parameter to
wait but I had problems to find those dispatching commands well documented even
tough I'm quite tekky.

Verified in the following npower10 build(s) with the updated test document:

Win-XP2-503-npower10-install_set.zip

I pointed to several test files and verified that when I changed the file
permissions and / or pointed to non=existent files that OOo handle the issues
gracefully.

I also tested on the following Linux npower 10 build:

O3-build-2457-npower10-install_set

I was able to get 16 to return when I pointed to a correct directory structure.
The other two tests would always return a 0 or a 1 depending on how my test
files permissions were set. I couldn't every figure out a way to set my file
permissions to hidden and read-only using both chmod and chattr on Linux. So I
was actually able to verify two of tests in the document using the Linux system.
Anyway, it looks like this passed regression testing satisfactorily.

Pavel,

please enter the compiler versions etc for your builds in this table here:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Compiler_versions_used_by_port_maintainers_and_release_engineers

This table is exactly meant to determine when we are able to officially kill the
support for aging compilers. I for instance wasn't aware that you still use the
.Net2003 compiler, I thought you would use the .Net 2008 Express version.

Now if we could finally get rid of gcc-3.3.x :)

If you try to use «Save as» dialog when you have an «*» in the path to file you
will
get the following message:

«Error saving the document ---.odt: Inadmissible path.
The input syntax is invalid.»

Open dialog demonstrates similar behavior.

Trying to enter such directory in save dialog results in staying in the current
direc-
tory and copying the directory name into the «File name:» field. Trying to save
file-
name with this symbol results in nothing but scrolling files and directories
list to
the top.

OS: Gentoo GNU/Linux
app-office/openoffice-2.4.1

USE flags:

# Here are lots of linguas_* flags. I have linguas_en_GB and linguas_ru.

blauwal: yes, but paying is one part of the problem for community people.

I do not want to argue about "the number of builders" on Windows. Because I
expect I'm at least 1/4 of
them ;-)

@pjanik: Now, if you said "paying" for a new commercial compiler I certainly
would have understand that, and I'm sure that a solution can be found. But
"administering"? I guess the price to be paid by using an 5 years older compiler
than the majority of the developers - I'm not sure how many developers still use
the old compiler on DEV300, can't be that many - is way higher than to
administer two compiler installations. But I do admit, that doing this on
Windows is as usual a p*** in the a**.

a couple of things,

1. Frank already ok'ed jpryor's changes from (
froms-radio-button-group-names.diff ) see
http://dba.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=3477 and associated
thread
2. As jpryor mentioned there is no persistence of the new toolkit GroupName
attribute, e.g. if you set the groupname propery in a basic dialog the groupname
will be lost
3. There is an awful hack in the XL userform import to apply radio button
grouping it should be removed

I can provide a patch for 2 & 3 above ( I propose to just use the same attribute
name ( with the dialog namespace ) e.g. dlg:groupname ) hope that is ok, I
will attach the patch here when done

> I suggest that we'll officially kill .Net2003

This is "hamburgism". We can't do so at least not before 2.4.x branch is
officially dead.

We can't do se, because community developers can't pay for people administering
two compilers on their
machines...

Pavel,

my changes certainly did work with the official Windows compiler on DEV300 on
(.Net 2008) and thats the current working status quo. They didn't work with a
deprecated compiler (.Net 2003). Now I'm a reasonable man and it's certainly
possible to get this working for both cases as a compromise so I made a few
suggestions. Simply feeding Rüdiger a number of patches which reverts the code
to it's broken state and kill the Solaris 64 bit builds is not a compromise.

Since I guess these kinds of problems will happen more often in future and I
certainly don't want to play P1 issue ping pong on these I suggest that we'll
officially kill .Net2003 because it's simply to painful to further support it.

Well, it would be a lot less painful to support this deprecated compiler in
future if correct changes made for the benefit of a modern compiler wouldn't be
just reverted but, but, working together, we could find a solution that work
with both.

Sorry -- I did try a search first (for issues reported on 3.0 beta with either
"notes" or "comments" in the summary) but didn't find anything. The dup bug's
summary is not very clear, "[notes2]open word document and directly save to
odt", and I guess "notes2" didn't match "notes".

When you open a relatively large file (900 kb, with 250 footnotes and 20 notes
in the marge) in OOo-dev 3 m21, the first note appear only after a couple of
seconds (and the rest of the notes take even longer time to appear), with the
content in one place and the frame of the note on a different place. You have to
wait and go to another place in the file before the note finally looks OK.
When I partition the file into 2 files, the program works a lot better.
This happened also in OOo-dev 3 m20 (no problem in 2.4.1)
In general, navigating in m21 is very slow.
(I work with MS Vista and 3 Gb memory)

The number format of the columns N and P gets lost because in xmloff a volatile
number format is removed from the number formatter that better not have been
removed.
The numberformat N128P0 in object 13 is volatile:
 and therefor is
deleted in method SvXMLNumImpData::RemoveVolatileFormats.
But a same numberformat containing 3 decimal places and min-integer-digits=1 is
already used in calc. As the chart and calc do share the numberformatter this
used numberformat is deleted wrongly.
@Niklas, do you have an idea for a fix here? As cvs annotate tells, you have
introduced the methods some years ago. Thanks, Ingrid.
