[sw-issues] [Issue 109036] RTF: graphic alignment lo st on export
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=109036 --- Additional comments from gb...@openoffice.org Sat Feb 13 10:27:54 + 2010 --- Aha, I see your problem. Considering my existing documents relatively private I made a new odt document and checked that it behaved liek the others. It did not; in fact it was not too bad, retaining most of the formatting but just not showing the pictures (when the rtf file was viewed using MS Word). When the rtf was viewed using ooo it was perfect, but that did not help very much. I had just made that document in PORTRAIT mode, whereas the documents I'd had trouble with were in landscape. Changing the format to landscape gave me many of the same problems I was complaining about (WHEN VIEWED IN MS WORD 'XP' (2001): 1. resized graphics and relocated captions. 2. one of the graphics has changed aspect ratio 3. the one page document became 2 pages long 4. the 1*1 table (used as a 'text box', origionally 30% relative width, goes to 100% width 5. Any similarity to the original text layout is incidental, 6. the rtf filesize is 19MB -- rather large, don't you think? 7 the only common fault that did not occur with this file was that the centre justification of the heading was maintained correctly in the rtf. I hope these points are evident when you look at the odt file that I am attaching. At least I will admit that I am probably using a slightly unusual format, so that may be why it has escaped attention so far. Its a convenient format for making PDF 'album pages' to suit PC screens. By the way, thanks for the prompt response so far and good luck with understanding the problem. Cheers, Gordon - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. For ewample, I set in a cell the value 10.32.54.1, drag and I get the following list : 10.32.54.1 10.32.54.2 10.32.54.3 ... (multilingual environment, english, french, german, italian wordbooks are installed) 3) All extensions are shown in the extension manager, but are missing under Options | Language 4) An attempt to upgrade with the extension manager failed: After an estim. 10 min of HD-activity during the extension manager upgrade attempt the following error message appeared (in German, translated): OpenOffice.org 3.2, Extension Manager: c:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\(...)\Anwendungsdaten\OpenOffice.org\3\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\7.tmp_\cadooo2-1.0.3.xcu does not exist. after ok the second error message appeared: OpenOffice.org 3.2: an error occured during file opening Thereafter the first Errormessage appeared again, after ok the program shut down without further message (crash). 5) First attempt to spellcheck a German document failed: Spell check icon is always greyed out. Extras | Language offered only tschech Language, which was never installed, after a second try the program shut down without error message After a third attempt German was offered and worked through the menue, the icon is still greyed out. 6) Paths: The installed extensions are in the following different locations: 12x C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\xx\Anwendungsdaten\ OpenOffice.org\3\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\xx.tmp_\xxx.oxt - these are shown in the extension manager 1x C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\xx\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp\xxx.oxt - some duplicates of the above 2x C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\xx\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp\F3.tmp_\F4.tmp_\xxx.oxt - triple tmp 10x C:\Programme\OpenOffice.org 3\share\extension\install\dict_xxx.oxt 8x C:\Programme\OpenOffice.org 3\share\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\xx.tmp\dict_xxx.oxt Apparently there is a conflict between the above paths. I did not file another bug report, because the problems seem to be intimately related. I also read somewhere about suspected cadoo conflicts with writers tools extension, which may just be caused by similar conflicting paths settings. All installed extensions are dead over here. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. But when I came to load it onto a 2nd PC running Windows 7 it failed to load and produced roughly the same error each time. Internal error 2329, 32, C:config.msi\237cd2.rbf The numbers after the last slash and before the .rbf seem to change from time to time the most recent version being ...\2acc651.rbf the installation runs fine initially, gets past the point where the internet thank you for using Open Office.org opens and then about 3 secs later the error comes up and the installation backs out. Unfortunately when it restored the original v3.1 instalation it did not do so properly and it would not run. Neither could I re load version 3.1. I have since tried using uninstall to uninstall the program but taht too failed with a similar error message and reinstalled. But not to a working model I then ran the current version of Windows install cleanup and while that removed the record of the program being loaded, when I ran the install for v 3.2 again the same error occoured. I then removed all of the files in the program directory for Open Office .Org manually and ran regedit and removed all references ot the program from the registry files. I re ran the installation for versions 3.2, 3.1, and 2.4 all failed with similar error messages. I also attempted to load the versions without Java included in the packages but the same result. I tried the Oxygen Office professional3.1.1 version of Open Office.org but got a message to remove the quick start up and open office.org 3.1. Identified the file fragments and re ran the oxygen office install got past the initial hurdle but then at about the same point of loading the OpenOffice.Org 3.1.1 component got the same error message as for the other versions of Op-en Office.Org. I am guessing config.msi is finding a trace of Open Office.org is a dll file but am not all that expert at these things and would not know where to start looking. I can follow instructions but that is it. I have been using OpenOffice.Orgl at home as my sole productivity suite for years but unless a solution can be found to this problem am going to be forced to buy MS Office. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This proposal is more for fun than heavy work and more for school children than clerks. There is possibility create animated GIF pictures in Impress so maybe this can be the first step for animation workshop in Draw. I guess this is easy part because most of building blocks is already ready. Second step can be perhaps editing feature for GIF animations. That's all for minimal animation workshop with saving and loading. Priority is set 5 (= nice to have) for not push too hard developers. In every other application that I've ever used, clicking once on one of these controls results in a movement of a single line up or down not the entire remaining portion of the document. The only thing I have been able to do is remove the scroll bar to prevent myself from using it and getting locked into a long protracted scroll through the document. However, when STYLE is used in this way, it seems to prevent cell notes from popping up as usual when the mouse cursor hovers over the note cell. Although this use of STYLE and conditional formatting is somewhat unorthodox, it is very useful, and it should not interfere with the notes feature. See the attached document for a sample. [sw-issues] [Issue 108255] Displaying ODT document i n 3.1 with graphics is very slow

In OO 3.1 on 900mhz Thinkpad Linux Ubuntu, it takes a couple of minutes to scroll or display past any grapic section or many minutes to save, and is unusable. 2. In NeoOffice 3.0 on Mac 1.4Ghz (I assume built on OO 3.0), same file only pauses a second or two during scroll past graphic sections, and saves in 5 seconds. 3. In both cases, FODT of the same file is far faster, although the difference is much greater in the OO 3.1 version. In other words the FODT is usable in both cases and may only exhibit the predictable difference from the faster machine on the Mac, whereas the ODT is clearly different for some other reason. This would mean that this bug also happens with an imported eps file -- at least one that is copied many times. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 109246] In fodt file in NeoOffice 3 and OpenOffice (OO) 3.1 editing of space ch aracter is sometimes not saved and is deceptiv ely lost
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=109246 Issue #|109246 Summary|In fodt file in NeoOffice 3 and OpenOffice (OO) 3.1 ed |iting of space character is sometimes not saved and is | deceptively lost Component|Word processor Version|OOo 3.1 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|editing Assigned to|writerneedsconfirm Reported by|stevenrowat --- Additional comments from stevenro...@openoffice.org Sun Feb 14 06:14:35 + 2010 --- In both OO 3.1 (Linux on 900 Mhz Ubuntu 9.10 Thinkpad T22) and NeoOffice 3.0 (Mac Mini PPC 10.4.11), about half the time when a space character is edited alone, that is, without editing a regular alphanumeric character as well, then if the file is saved in FODT format, closed, and re-opened in FODT the edit has been lost. Happens for both addition and removal of space. This is deceptive because the file displays and prints the edit of the space correctly before closing and re-opening. Thus it is an unwelcome surprise later to find that the edit did not hold. I have tried many combinations to attempt to see if it is linked to certain actions, and nothing works consistently. It MAY be worse: --between graphics --in/before/after italics --after tabs I also found: --Only between the graphics I have embedded [eps] does it appear to always happen. --In the other places it happens sometimes. --It happens both with adding and removing spaces. --It generally does not happen if alphanumerics are also removed or added with the spaces. --It happens with large and small files --It happens with new files (so it's not a file corruption issue.) Final strange note: --It does not happen with odt version of the same file, except that sometimes the odt (space) edit is again lost if that file is later opened as fodt. In other words, if the edit is made in odt, it can still be lost by opening as fodt. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 109247] Styles/Formatting Philoso phy Perhaps Too Restrictive
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=109247 Issue #|109247 Summary|Styles/Formatting Philosophy Perhaps Too Restrictive Component|Word processor Version|OOo 3.2 RC5 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|FEATURE Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|writerneedsconfirm Reported by|exhodus202 --- Additional comments from exhodus...@openoffice.org Sun Feb 14 06:42:57 + 2010 --- Upfront caveats: this is my first issue to submit, so am not entirely sure I'm doing it right. I am frustrated by the limits the current method of creating/applying styles places upon my creative process. What I want: the ability to fiddle with granular formatting details (e.g., paragraph indent styles, numbering and bullet styles) - quickly access these controls and see instant results. What software already achieves this, more or less: * MS Word's (since about 2003 for Windows and 2004 for Mac) floating formatting palette. Its disclosure triangles allows me to quickly drill down to the features I want to access the most and keep them available with the flick of my wrist (flick of the cursor to where the palette was last placed). It then fades out of the way so it doesn't distract my writing. * Apple's Pages.app. Its Inspector feature is similar to and perhaps superior to MS Word's implementation. I can submit screenshots of both of these features in action if anybody wants. What I don't like about OOo in its current incarnation (3.2.0 - I couldn't find this listed in the Found in version list when submitting this issue): * FormatParagraph or FormatBullets and Numbering gives me pretty good access to controls, but they don't allow me to see results instantly. I have to close the dialog box first. So I find myself making a change, not liking it, and then having to mouse over to Format, then Paragraph, etc. Very tedious. I want at least an Apply button available so I can check the results before closing the dialog box. * The Styles and Formatting floating window does produce instant results. However, it seems to be dominated by a document creating/editing philosophy that favors logical styles over physical attributes (see http://www.openoffice.org/issues/showattachment.cgi?attach_id=25685, p. 2) or what I've also heard referred to as ad hoc editing. The problem I have with this approach (implicit in the Styles and Formatting floating window) is that in my way of thinking I am constantly testing for myself the interaction between the text itself and the way that text is presented (i.e., formatting). Remember Marshall McLuhan: The medium is the message? I don't like these really abstract styles like Headline 1. What the heck is that? That means nothing. That communicates nothing. It's gibberish. It's code. I don't want code; I want instantaneous, intuitive, transparent understanding. I shouldn't have to think. I should just be able to do. (I should reserve my thinking for my content and how I want that content shaped to best impact my audience. Don't ask me to think like a programmer when I'm thinking about how to communicate, communicate beautifully, to people.) I realize that some writers may be actually very quick and productive with the Styles and Formatting window as is. I also realize that I can copy, edit and create new styles from scratch. What I don't like is that this means I am being told how to work without asking my permission. I want OOo to work the way I already work, which I like and am good at. I don't want to work the way OOo wants me to work. I am open to persuasion. But I'd rather have software do what I want it to do the way I want it to do it first. Then I'll listen. That's why I'm frustrated. Okay, sorry for the rant. But that's the price, I suppose, of being passionate about my creative process, and I hope that the devs I hope are reading this appreciate how passionate creative types like me are their passionate evangelists outside their circle of FLOSS or IT specialists/fans. I do have some hopefully specific and hopefully not-so-hard to implement suggestions: * FormatParagraph et al: Could you put in an Apply button so I could see the results of my changes right away and not have to go back and forth from the dialog box to the document and then back again to get the results I want? * Styles and Formatting floating window: ** I'd like to be able to mouse over a style and have some lorem ipsum text with that style applied pop up to give me an instant visual idea of what that style would actually do to my selected text in my real
