What I've seen here doesn't do anything more than what my original custom function in Calc did: convert a number into a text representing the engineering / SI notation. See the attached EngFormula.ODS file. I've spoken to some developers and apparently it is possible to "add" a format to the current ODS file only, not directly to the Calc application. For that it has to become part of the source code to the program. Not simply an add-on. Thus you'll have to load the add-on into each and every ODS file you open. Now if some developer would please use one of these functions to add it into a patch, that would be great. I don't care which, they all seem to work correctly. Cell formatting is a subset of the programming task. It appears that a formatting utility can be written and added to the existing list of formatting types. The various modulo 3 algorithms presented here are okay, but the tough step is incorporating them into the source code for cell formatting. Sorry, but I didn't actually probe as far into the source as I'd need to to answer the specifics of how to do this. Second, I agree that this request 5930 is two issues - numerical engineering format (modulo 3 exponents) and the scientific character nomenclature - the SI/MKSA units. This will move the cursor again and will almost assuredly cancel the selection This does not occur in some other files i have. This is happening in OO 3.2.1 and is a regression from OO 3.0.1 which is the last previous version I was using. Many issues like this appeared half a dozen years ago, but most of them were resolved back then by implementing this capability, so it is clear that the design is supposed to support such a capability. Forcing the user to constantly repeat the actions of resizing the windows is rather annoying -- isn't remembering data what computers are for? It is particlarly irritating when the Navigator is part of the window and takes up its own space, because the lost space is taken from the document view, which means the full width of the document is not visible when the document is re-opened. My platform is OpenSolaris x86, with OO running under CDE. To replicate, open a new text document, type a few characters, resize the window to about half your screen in x and y directions, save, close, and re-open. I write a wraparound NSIS installer for my OpenOffice.org Productivity Suite.
my installer has a problem with your installer:
I use the NSIS command ExecWait to execute your installer. on every program in
existence except OOo's pieces it does what it should: NSIS waits until the
program in question is finished installing before it goes on to the next line of
code.
OOo seems to be spawning new processes and then killing off the parent. it used
to be I could simply do a waitjob on setup.exe until setup.exe finished, and
then I would be good to go.
but all of them (lang pack, sdk, OOo, old URE, etc) just blast straight through
and the setup has not finished, so now I have several OpenOffice.org installers
running simultaneously, and clipart installing. a real mess and a big system
load and it's a memory hog.
please make the installers a single-process, single-tasking wonder and solve
this problem so that ExecWait on OOo or one of its parts like langpack will
truly wait until the setup for that component is truly finished.

PERIOD. END OF SENTENCE. What infuriates me the most about things like this is how totally unnecessary it is. The solution is easy: 1. GO BACK TO THE OLD ICONS WITH THE NEXT POINT RELEASE, and 2. Start the process over again for redesigning the icons, taking into account the fact that b&w icons are NOT ACCEPTABLE. There is absolutely NO reason that the above cannot be done for the 3.2.2 release (much less the 3.3 release), save one: THE DECISION MAKER(S) DON'T CARE. Well, guess what? As of now, I don't care either. I am now in the process of working on migrating our entire office over to KOffice. Since we're on windows, and KOffice isn't entirely stable on windows yet, it may not be able to happen in the next few months, or even the next year, but it will happen - unless by some miracle things change drastically with the OOo development process prior to KOffice being ready for prime time on windows. I just tried to open the file in MS Office 2007, and apparently MS Office can deal with the file just fine with no apparent performance problem. While the "Platform:" options are identical, there are significant differences in "OS:" options that reduce effectiveness of issue tracking vs issue entry. A subsequent related vendor-focused issue addresses Platform: "Sun" (SPARC?) vs "Opteron/x86_64" (Intel X86?), and OS: "Solaris" vs 'OpenSolaris'. 2. If Oracle / OpenOffice.org can not distinguish platform and OS sub-markets, they will have a more difficult time identifying and responding to customer needs. If user registrations nonetheless provide sufficient platform and OS information, their decomposition should be architecturally aligned with the Issue Tracker, the Issue "Enterer", and development and marketing efforts. 3. Recommend strategic examination of and formal decomposition of platform and OS versions. This then may be used to evaluate differential user adoption, and guide development and marketing resources. The scope and impact of such a review is far more important than correcting pull-down menu options. 4. This issue is submitted as a P4 vs P3 because of its architectural implications related to top-level resource allocation. At a lessor level, the longer platform and OS remains ambiguous, the less accurate the Issues Database will remain. At a strategic level, platform/OS examination, conformation, and validation, may provide widely-distributed benefits in aligning and focusing efforts across the community.
